(Next Chapter :))

...

Less than five minutes later, the Potters and the Dursleys were piled into the car with what belongings they had managed to pack.

They drove for hours until finally Uncle Vernon stopped at an old rundown motel and paid for a night's stay.

Dudley was sour their entire stay because he hadn't been allowed to bring his television or his computer and he wanted to blow up aliens on his computer game.

Still two letters bearing the names of Harry and Lucy Potter managed to find their way to the Twins so the Dursleys were forced to move again.

This time Uncle Vernon drove for millions of miles until they finally reached the edge of a lake. A creepy old gentleman with missing teeth met them as they slowly and uncertainly piled out of the car.

Uncle Vernon went to speak with him for a minute, then returned looking very happy. "I've done it! I've got a place. And this old chap has graciously allowed us to borrow his boat. All board then!"

Dudley continued to scowl as the family forced themselves into the tiny rowboat with all their belongings. As the Twins listened to him complain, Harry suddenly realized something and nudged Lucy.

Lu, it's Monday. You know what that means? He looked at her expectantly. Lucy nodded her head.

We turn eleven tomorrow...she thought without much enthusiasm. Harry didn't really blame her so he dropped the subject. After all, it wasn't like they had particularly fun birthdays like Dudley did.

Last year Harry had recieved a pair of Uncle Vernon's old socks while Lucy got an old spotted handkerchief from Aunt Petunia. Still you didn't turn eleven everyday. Harry reasoned, but Lucy knew it didn't matter. The Dursleys wouldn't care.

Hours later the boat finally docked at an the foot of an abandoned island where a lonely old shack stood in the middle of nowhere.

By now a storm was setting in so the Dursleys and the Potters quickly filed into the shack where they discovered the wood walls were little help against the cold and the roof was all leaky in certain places.

Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia went to sleep in the only bedroom while Dudley got the couch.

Harry grabbed an extra old blanket and found a soft piece of ground for him and Lucy to snuggle into for the night.

As the night drug on, the storm grew worse. Dudley finally fell asleep, but Harry stayed awake watching the time on Dudley's new digital watch, waiting for midnight to come.

He turned to see what Lucy was up to after awhile and found her drawing in the dirt with her finger. He leaned over to see what she was drawing.

"What are you making?" He asked in a whisper, knowing the Dursleys were all asleep by now. Lucy shrugged. "A Birthday cake." She answered softly while adding roses and eleven candles to her drawing. "It's almost time now."

She glanced up at Dudley's wristwatch as she started writing the words, "Happy Birthday Harry and Lucy" on the cake.

Harry watched her finish just as the clock chimed midnight. Lucy smiled down at her drawing. "Make a wish Harry." She looked at her brother.

Harry smiled back. "Make a wish Lucy." They grabbed hands under the blanket right before they blew out the candles.

BOOM! The house shook suddenly. Lucy and Harry sat suddenly upright and grabbed onto each other for safety.

BOOM! The house shook again. This time it woke Dudley who muttered stupidly. "Where's the Cannon?" before the Dursleys came down the stairs, Uncle Vernon with a rifle in his hand.

"Who's there? I warn ya! I'm armed!" Uncle Vernon aimed his rifle at the door. The door boomed one more time before it fell admitting some rain and a large man, covered in thick curly hair around his his head.

Lucy instinctively curled towards her brother for protection. Harry quickly hugged her for comfort.

The man stepped inside. He was so tall his head brushed against the ceiling and Lucy was sure his feet was more than three times the size of a regular man's feet. As the family waited, the man bent down, picked up the door and put it back in its hinges before turning back around.

"Sorry about that." He said sheepishly with a strange accent as he stepped further into the house. "Couldn't make us a cup o tea, could yeh? It's not been an easy journey."

The Dursleys were too stunned to move.

Dudley whimpered as the man slowly approached him. "Budge up! You great lump!" He muttered gruffly. Dudley let out a squeak before he dove to hide behind his Mother while she was cowering behind her husband at the stairs.

Lucy couldn't help a smile at the scene.

"Well! And here are Lucy and Harry!" The giant smiled, finally turning on the Twins. "Last time I saw yeh, yeh were only babies. You two take after your parents yeh know and you've even got your Mother's eyes."

Harry and Lucy exchanged glances. They weren't sure what to make of the stranger yet, especially since he claimed to know their parents.

Uncle Vernon made a weird rasping noise from his corner of the shack. "I demand that you leave at once sir! You are breaking and entering!" He steaded his gun.

The giant stepped towards him and grabbed the end of his gun. "Dry up Dursley, you old prune!" He snarled just as the gun went off in Uncle Vernon's hand and created a hole in the ceiling. Dudley and Aunt Petunia screamed while Harry and Lucy just watched in shock.

Did you see that? Lucy squeaked in her thoughts and Harry nodded.

"Well then...I guess first things first. Happy Birthday you two. I've got something for yeh. Fraid I might have sat on it at one point, but I imagine it'll taste fine just the same." The giant grinned again as he pulled an enormous cake box from behind his back.

Harry grabbed the box and opened the lid as Lucy peered around him. It was a cake. A real genuine birthday cake with Happy Birthday Harry and Lucy Potter written in green icing. Lucy felt a grin a big as a cheshire cat's stretch her cheeks.

"Oh it's wonderful!" She beamed reaching in to pick up some of the icing off the cake with her fingers as Harry looked back up at the giant.

"Who are you?" He asked without thinking. Lucy gave Harry a rough nudge in the ankles with her toe frowning at him slightly for forgetting his manners, but Hagrid only smiled.

"Tis true I haven't introduced myself yet. Rubeus Hagrid at your service. Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. Course you'll know all about Hogwarts." He said while shaking their arms.

Harry smiled and shook his head. "Sorry no..." He said sheepishly. "What's Hogwarts?"

"What's Hogwarts?" Hagrid sounded flabbergasted. Lucy gave a helpless shrug. "Well Blimey! Didn't you two ever wonder where your parents learned it all?"

Lucy exchanged a look with Harry. "Learn what?" She asked confusedly. Hagrid glanced at the Dursleys. "Well..you're wizards Lucy. Both you and Harry. Thumpin good ones too I wager. Once you've been trained up a bit."

Lucy looked as if she might faint in a minute. "We're...what?" She gasped. Harry looked equally as shocked. "Wizards Lucy! Well..yer a wizard Harry and Lucy's a witch technically speaking. Just like yer parents. Why I'd wager-."

"Enough! Sir I forbid you to tell them anymore!" Uncle Vernon finally found his voice. Hagrid barely glanced at them. "Aw stuff it you old grackle!"

He muttered, reaching into his pocket for two letters. "Here..I reckon it's about time you read these. Maybe it will make things a bit clearer, eh?" He smiled at the Twins hopefully.

Harry carefully set the cake box down by the fireplace as he reached to retrieve the letters. He passed Lucy hers and quickly set to tearing open his envelope.

Lucy did the same.

"To Mr. H. Potter," Harry began aloud. Lucy smiled. "To Miss. L. Potter."

"We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September the first. We await your owl, by no later than July 31.

Yours Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress."

The Twins finished reading their letters simulataneously. Lucy exchanged a quick look with her brother. So many questions filled her mind and it wasn't hard to tell that Harry was full of questions as well.

"Hagrid, what does it mean they await our owl?" Harry asked, asking the first question to pop into his head.

Lucy rolled her eyes a little.

"Gallopin Gorgons! That reminds me!" Hagrid slapped his forehead and pulled a live tiny owl from his right pocket. Lucy stared curiously at it while Hagrid proceeded to pull a quil and a piece of parchment from his other pocket.

"Is that an elf owl?" She asked while Hagrid scribbled furiously on his piece of parchment. Hagrid didn't bother to answer her, but Lucy knew she was right. She once read a book about owls from Aunt Petunia's collection.

Finally Hagrid finished his note, he tied it up with a piece of string then gave it to the owl who gave a short peep before flying off through the broken window.

He then turned to sit wearily down on the old sofa Dudley had been previously sitting on and stretched out his limbs a little. "Ah..now where was I?" He glanced back at the Twins.

"They will not be going!" Uncle Vernon roared. Hagrid rolled his eyes. "And I suppose a great muggle like yerself is going to stop em?" He muttered sarcastically.

Lucy became confused. "Muggle?"

"Non magic folk." Hagrid quickly explained to her. Lucy nodded her head. "Oh.." She looked up at Harry.

"They will NOT be going I tell you! We swore when we took them in! We swore that we'd put a end to that rubbish!"

"You knew!" Harry suddenly became angry. "You knew and then you never told us a single thing?" Lucy grabbed her brother's arm fearfully.

"Well of course we knew!" Aunt Petunia sneered from the bottom step. "How could we not? My perfect sister being what she was. Oh Mother and Father were so proud the day she got her letter." She sniveled letting out a malicious chuckle.

"We have a witch in the family. Isn't is wonderful?...But I was the only one who know what she really was...a freak!" She spat. "Then she married that Potter boy and had you two and I knew that you'd be just as strange..just as...abnormal." Lucy frowned.

"And if you please then she went and got herself blown up and we got landed with you two-!"

"Blown up? You said our parents died in a car crash!" Lucy suddenly cut her off, losing control of her normally very long temper.

"CAR CRASH?" Hagrid roared making the whole shack shake with his voice. "A Car Crash kill Lily and James Potter? Why it's an insult! An outrage! A scandal if I have to tell it! Harry and Lucy Potter not knowing their own story for all this time when everyone in our world knows their names!"

"Well we had to tell them something." Aunt Petunia started to shrivel up again.

"Why?" Harry spoke up, pushing his sister gently behind him. "What happened to our parents that night?" He asked.

Hagrid let out a heavy sigh. "I didn't realize it was this bad, Harry. When Dumbledore told me that there might trouble getting a hold of ya, I didn't think it would be this bad. Well I'm probably not the right person to tell you, but someone's gotta let you know. You can't go to Hogwarts without knowin." He sank back into the sofa.

Lucy looked at Harry and the two of them sank down to the floor together at Hagrid's feet.

"Now..mind yeh I can't tell ya everything. The lot of it is still a great mystery, but it all started with a wizard called..." Hagrid stumbled upon the next word.

Harry frowned. "Can you write it down?" He suggested hopefully. Hagrid shook his head. "No no, I can't write it...all right Voldemort!" He winced right after he said his name.

Lucy's frown matched her brother's. "Who is Voldemort?" She did not miss the flinch Hagrid gave again when she said the name.

"Well..he's a wizard who went bad as they say. Bad as you can go. Anyway about twenty years ago this..wizard gathered a bunch of followers and he got em too. Some were scared and some..well some they say just wanted a bit o his power and power he had all right. Lots of it. Dark days they were. You never knew who you could trust. I reckon Dumbledore was the only one he was afraid of...never tried taking the school anyways."

Hagrid shook his head. "Now, yer mother and father were as good a witch and wizard as I ever knew. Head boy and girl in their day. Always wondered though why the Dark Lord never wanted them on his side. Prolly figured that they were too close to Dumbledore to want anything to do on his side."

Lucy smiled lightly at that. Harry smiled too.

"But maybe he thought he could persuade em..or maybe he just wanted em out of his way. I don't know. All I know is he turned up in the village where you all was living on Halloween ten years two were only a year old...he came to yer house and he..he..."

Tears came to Hagrid's eyes. Lucy frowned and stood to comfort the large man. Hagrid turned to pull a dirty spotted handkerchief from his pocket as Lucy stroked his large forearm.

"Sorry," He gasped after he had blown his nose. "But it's that sad...I knew yer Mum and Dad and nicer people yeh couldn't find...anyway." He started to reassemble himself.

Lucy continued to pat his arm. "He killed them, didn't he?...Voldemort?" Hagrid nodded and tears finally welled up in Lucy's eyes.

She sat back down on the floor and Harry pulled her in close as she began to cry.

"But here's the real mystery of the thing!" Hagrid continued after he put away his handkerchief. "He tried to kill you two too! Wanted to make a clean job of it I suppose. Or maybe he just liked killin by then. I don't know. But he couldn't do it."

Hagrid smiled sadly then as the Twins exchanged glances. "What?...Never wondered where you two got those marks?" He winked. Lucy managed a wobbly grin and squeezed Harry's hand as a teardrop rolled down her cheek.

"I have wondered...actually." She said looking at Harry. Harry nodded his head in agreement. "Me too." He reached to touch his scar.

"Yeah well they were no ordinary cuts. That's what yeh get when a powerful curse touches ya. It took yer mother and yer father and destroyed the whole house too. But it didn't take you two, Lucy and that's why you and yer brother are famous. Because no one lived once he decided to kill em."

"Except us." Lucy put in and reached up to finger her own scar. Hagrid nodded his head. "Exactly. He took a lot of good witches and wizards too. The McKinnons, the Bones, the Prewetts. But you were only babies..and yeh lived." Hagrid looked like he might cry again.

Lucy frowned slightly at this as she recalled again her dream. The same dream she knew Harry had every other night like she did.

A green flash, then the scream of a woman followed the horribly cold and cackling laugh that rang through Lucy's ears. She instinctively covered her ears as if trying to block out the laughter as her scar started to sting. Harry grabbed her by the hand.

"Took yeh both from the ruined house meh-self." Hagrid continued quietly as he observed the Potters. "On Dumbledore's orders...and brought yeh to this lot.." He glared at the Dursleys again.

"Load of tosh!" Uncle Vernon exploded scaring the Potters who had forgotten that their relatives were still there.

"Dark wizards and what-not! Now you two listen to me! I accept there's something strange about you two. Probably nothing a good beating wouldn't have cured.. And as for your parents well I won't deny they weren't weirdos. The world's better off without their lot in my opinion. Asked for all they got mixing it with all these wizard types."

Hagrid suddenly leaped from the sofa. "I'm warning ya Dursley! I'm warning ya now! He pointed his old pink umbrella at the obese man. Uncle Vernon shrank immediately back into his corner.

Lucy turned away from him and gave her brother's hand a squeeze. "Hagrid..uh what happened to Vol-...I mean you know who?" Harry asked grimacing apologetically when Hagrid winced.

"Did he die?" asked Lucy.

"Good question, yeh two." Hagrid nodded his head at them. "Well some say he died but yet others said that he was still out there bidin his time. Not that I ever belived it. Course after he was defeated people started coming back to our side. Out of trances and things like that. Reckon that couldn't happen if he was still about. But most of us reckon that he's still out there somewhere, but he's weak. Lost his powers the night he tried to kill you." He pointed at Harry and Lucy.

"Something about you two stumped him that night, Harry. Something he hadn't been counting on. I don't know what it was..no one does rightly." He scratched his enormous head.

Lucy quietly considered everything she had been told while Harry felt like there was sure to be a horrible mistake.

A wizard and a witch? Him and Lucy? But they spent their entire lives up to this point being beaten and clouted by the Dursleys.

If they really did have magical powers and bested a powerful dark wizard as Hagrid said, how come they couldn't turn away their nasty relatives every time they tried to "punish" them?

"Hagrid..I think you've made some kind of mistake." Harry said quietly thinking. "I mean...I don't think that I could be a wizard..or that Lucy could be a witch."

Lucy frowned at him at that. "But Harry all the pieces fit. The dream. The green flash, the scream, the laugh...everything! It's exactly as Hagrid said."

Hagrid chuckled at her as Harry turned to stare at her. "She's right yeh know. Take after yer mother I see." He grinned. Lucy blushed lightly at the compliment.

"Now then Harry," Hagrid continued. "Tell me have you or Lucy ever made anything happen that neither of yeh couldn't explain when you were sad or angry at summat?" Hagrid turned his attention back to the male twin.

Lucy nudged Harry in the ribs. "The rooftop." She whispered and Harry nodded his head. "The kitchen." He grinned remembering how the school cafetaria had almost caught on fire once because some girl pushed ahead of Lucy in line and made her drop her pudding right as she was passing the cookers.

Hagrid just grinned at them. "Yeh see? Harry and Lucy Potter not a wizard or a witch? You just wait. You'll be right famous at Hogwarts!"

But Uncle Vernon wasn't about to let them go without a fight. "They will not be going I tell ya! I've enrolled them at Stonewall High and at Greenwood Academy and they will be right grateful for it! I've read those letters and it's full of all sorts of rubbish! Spellbooks and wands and the lot!"

"If they want ter go, a great muggle like yerself isn't going to be able to stop em. They're names have been down ever since they were born!" Hagrid objected.

"They will go to the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry there is and they'll be under the greatest headmaster Hogwarts has ever had. Albus Dumbledore."

"I will not pay to have some crack-pot old fool teach them magic tricks!" Uncle Vernon thundered back and Lucy flinched.

Hagrid swiftly pulled out his umbrella again. "Never..insult Albus Dumbledore..in front of me." He pointed the tip at Uncle Vernon.

Uncle Vernon started pale when they all heard a loud chomp. The Twins whirled to find Dudley with both hands in the cake box, devouring the birthday cake Hagrid had brought them not one hour ago.

Quickly changing his mind, Hagrid pointed his umbrella at Dudley and in a shower of sparks, Dudley's rear grew a new curly pink pig's tail.

Uncle Vernon roared. Aunt Petunia shrieked and ran for her son. The Potters turned to hide their laughter as the Dursleys ran up to hide in the upstairs bedroom slamming the door for good measure.

Hagrid sighed as the Twins laughter slowly diminished and quickly replaced his umbrella. "Uh..I'd be grateful to yeh if yeh two didn't mention that ter anyone at Hogwarts. Strictly speaking I'm not allowed to do magic."

Harry and Lucy quickly nodded their heads. "Wait! Why aren't you allowed to do magic?" asked Harry confused.

Hagrid shrugged his shoulders. "I got expelled..years ago." He explained sheepishly. "Had my wand snapped and all. Now enough about that! Time is short and there's still much to do. Might as well get a head start on it eh?" Hagrid quickly started for the door.

"Unless of course you'd rather stay here." He looked pointedly at the twins. Harry and Lucy quickly got to their feet.

"The Dursleys?" Lucy asked, knowing her Aunt and Uncle would be furious if they came back and found them gone along with the strange giant.

Hagrid patted her head comfortingly. "Don't yeh worry. I got ya two well looked after." He said as he pulled down the door again.

Lucy exchanged a look with her brother. Well guess we have no choice. Lucy shrugged. Harry snorted softly, but he gripped his sister's hand tightly as they followed Hagrid out into the raging storm.
