Chapter 78- A New Generation
(January 1, 2019, Naboo)
Kelly laughs as she runs along the beach of one of Naboo's lakes. She and Luke were on leave from military duty, so they decided to take some time off on Naboo.
Kelly glances back to see Luke is still chasing after her. She laughs again and tries to speed up a bit to keep ahead of him, but Luke is quickly catching up with her. It doesn't take him much longer, and with a laugh, he playfully tackles her to the ground. The couple laughs together as they tumble around in the sand, ending up lying on their backs looking up at the sky.
The just laugh for a few more moments before Kelly looks over at Luke. "I love you," she says.
Luke smiles back at her. "I love you too," he says. He then scoots over and gives her a kiss.
The two look back up at the shimmering sky. In the distance, they can just make out a Baltimore class Star Destroyer in very low orbit over the planet.
"So glad we get to have days like this before we leave for Coruscant," Kelly says.
Luke nods. Both of them had been assigned to accompany the massive invasion force that was intended to invade Coruscant in less than a month in what was hoped to be the last major operation of the war.
"Well, once the war is over, we'll get so many more of these days," Luke says.
"Yes. I can't wait for those days," Kelly says with a smile.
As they look out over the lake, Kelly sighs happily. She is right about to say something to Luke when her commlink suddenly beeps. Kelly pulls out her commlink and activates it. A second later, an image of Han comes up.
"Hey, Han. What is it?" Kelly asks.
"Leia wants you two back in Theed as soon as possible. The babies are coming," he says.
Both Kelly and Luke spring to their feet, excitement rushing through them. Almost a year after her marriage to Han, Leia had gotten pregnant. It was a pleasant surprise, as although they had planned to have kids, they had not anticipated having a child so soon. But, Leia had soon warmed up to the idea of being a mother, and been eagerly waiting to be a mom. She had been very shocked when an ultrasound revealed she was having twins, but was excited to have them. For the last month, she had been staying in Theed, not only to keep away from any military action, but also so she would have access to highly trained Terran doctors in case something went wrong.
"We'll be back to the city as soon as possible," Kelly says.
"You better be, or Leia is never gonna forgive you," Han says before the transmission cuts off.
The two look at each other, and Kelly says, "Let's move!" The two sprint back along the beach towards the speeder bikes they used to get to the lake. Swinging up onto the bikes, they quickly take off towards Theed.
Racing over the land, it doesn't take them too long to get back to Theed. Speeding through the streets, they soon reach the Terran medical facility in Theed. Both of them park their speeder bikes outside the entrance of the facility and race inside.
Almost immediately, they are met by one of the medical staff. "Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Skywalker. We've been waiting for you. Please follow me," the woman says. She quickly leads them out of the lobby and down one of the hallways.
The lady leads them down several hallways before reaching a doorway that the lady opens. "Go right in," she says.
Luke and Kelly hurry into the room. Immediately, they see Leia lying on the bed, dressed in a hospital gown, hands resting on her large belly. Han is sitting next to her on the fart side of the bed, massaging her shoulders to ease her up a bit.
"Leia!" Kelly cries.
Leia smiles at her. "Hey, Kelly. I'm glad you're here," she says.
Kelly smiles as she walks over and sits down next to the bed. "Where else would I be? I wasn't about to miss this," she says.
Leia smiles back in response. Kelly then asks, "How long has it been since your labor started?"
"I think about six or seven hours, but my water broke an hour ago. The doctors say I'm advancing quickly. They say I should be able to start pushing in a few more hours," Leia says.
"Good. I can't wait start loving and spoiling my nieces or nephews," Kelly says with a grin, rubbing Leia's bump a bit as she says this.
"Do you have ideas for names yet?" Luke asks.
"We're not entirely decided yet, but we have a few ideas in mind," Han replies.
Luke moves over and sits down in a chair next to Han's. For the next few hours, Kelly and Luke sit with Han and Leia, talking about the babies and anything else they can think about, just trying to keep Leia occupied and keep her mind off of the pain.
After about two hours, Kelly starts to notice Leia's expression looking more pained as the contractions come, and they're coming more and more frequently. She wants to bring it up, but knows that Leia knows her body better.
Then, a little over tow hours after Luke and Kelly arrived, Leia's face twists in pain from a particularly strong contraction. She looks back at her belly, then looks over at Luke and says, "Luke, go get the doctors. It's time."
Luke quickly gets up from his seat and hurries out of the room. He comes back a minute later with Leia's doctor and several nurses.
"Your brother told me you're ready?" the doctor asks.
"Yes. I feel a really strong urge to push, and the contractions are coming more frequently than ever," Leia says.
"Alright. Let's get these babies out," the doctor says with a bit of a smile. He then turns to Luke and says, "I'm sorry Mr. Skywalker, but I'm gonna need to have you leave the room."
"No problem," Luke says, not really wanting to have to watch his sister give birth. He smiles once at Leia before walking out.
The doctor and nurses quickly get to work, setting up everything they need. It doesn't take them too long before they have all the equipment and supplies they need ready, and have Leia in position, ready to push.
"Alright. Leia, when I tell you, I want to push down as hard as you can and hold it for 10 seconds, okay?" the doctor says. Leia nods in response.
"Alright….and, push!" the doctor says, and Leia starts pushing.
Kelly and Han stand beside Leia, each holding her hand and whispering encouragement to her. To their admiration, Leia doesn't cry out or scream at all as she continues to push.
After almost 20 minutes, the doctor says, "Alright, just one more push, and the first one is out. Ready…push!"
Leia pushes again, pushing as hard as she can and squeezing Han and Kelly's hands tightly. After a few moments, she feels a sense of relief flood through her, followed immediately by a loud wailing cry.
"Welcome to the world, little one!" the doctor says as he hurriedly tries to clean some of the blood and other fluids off the new baby. He then lays the baby on Leia's chest as he says, "Congratulations, it's a boy!"
Leia beams, a few tears in her eyes, as she embraces her new son. She looks up at Han, who looks as proud as he can be. "We have a son," she says.
"So proud of you, Leia," Han says, planting a kiss on her forehead.
After a moment, one of the nurses takes the baby back and, after letting Han cut the cord, takes him away to clean him up. This reminds Leia that her job is only half done.
"Alright. Let's welcome number two," the doctor says.
Leia resumes pushing a minute later. This time, with her being more tired from delivering her son, Leia is pushing for over half an hour.
Finally, the doctor says, "Alright, one more push, and you're gonna have your second baby," he says.
Leia nods, taking a few deep breaths. Then, the doctor says, "Alright, push!", and she starts pushing again, squeezing Han and Kelly's hands, a few tears running down her cheeks from the pain and the effort. Then, again, she feels a feeling of relief a split second before she hears a loud cry.
"It's a girl!" the doctor declares as he hastily tries to clean her up a little bit before handing her over to Leia.
Leia beams down at her new daughter, absolutely infatuated. Han gives her a kiss on the top of her head before staring down at his daughter in amazement.
One of the nurses soon takes the little girl back and takes her away to clean her up. As she does, Kelly looks at Leia, a few happy tears in her eyes, and says, "Leia, they're beautiful! I'm so proud of you!"
"Thank you, Kelly! Thank you for being here for me," Leia says with a smile.
"Wouldn't miss it," Kelly says with a smile. A moment later, she says, "I am going to leave you two be and have some bonding time with your new twins. Me and Luke will come back in later."
"Okay," Leia says. Kelly smiles one more time before standing up and slowly walking out of the room.
Heading to the waiting room, she finds Luke sitting in a chair and twiddling his thumbs, trying to be patient. When he sees his wife walk into the room, he gets a look of excitement.
"Well?" he asks as Kelly hurries over.
Kelly beams at him. "We have a niece and a nephew," she says.
Luke breaks out in the biggest smile and leaps up from his chair. The two hug, laughing as they do. When they separate, Luke asks, "Are they both doing well?"
"Yes, they couldn't be more healthy. I told Leia we'd wait and give them some bonding time," Kelly says.
"Sounds good to me, but I can't wait to meet them," Luke says.
"I know," Kelly replies, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
The two sit down and try to pass the time as patiently as they possibly can. Finally, almost an hour and a half, Han comes walking into the waiting room. "Leia wants to see you both," he calls over to them.
Kelly and Luke quickly stand up and follow Han out of the waiting room and back to Leia's room. As they walk in, they see Leia, looking a bit less worn out than she looked when Kelly walked out. And in her arms are the twins, both calmly sleeping.
"Hey, guys," Leia says.
"Oh my goodness, Leia, they're beautiful. Congratulations!" Luke says with pride. Leia smiles back at him.
"Have you decided on names yet?" Kelly asks excitedly.
Leia and Han both smile. "Yes," Leia says. She then holds out the boy a little bit and says, "We named him Jacen." She then holds out the girl a bit and says, "And we named her Jaina."
"Oh, those are beautiful names," Kelly says, falling further into baby-adoration mode.
"Do you want to hold them?" Leia asks.
"Of course!" Kelly almost squeals. She races forward to accept Jaina, as Luke chuckles, never having seen this side of his wife before before he walks forward to take Jacen.
As Kelly looks down at Jaina, carefully cradling her, she finds herself looking beyond the war, looking forward to the day that she and Luke may have a child of their own.
And, I'll end there. Hope you liked it.
So, yes, I decided to have Leia and Han have Jacen and Jaina instead of Ben. Now, they will not be having a third child as they did in Legends, and obviously them having twins will greatly affect the differences in the next story
So, as I mentioned at the start of the chapter, the final major battle of the war will be the capture of Coruscant, and it will be just as big of an operation as Jakku. It'll cover two chapters. It will be more of a ground battle than a space battle, so hopefully you'll like that.
Alright, next chapter chapter should be up soon. Until it is, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
