(A little shorter chapter than the others, but maybe after all the overly long ones you guys won't mind that so much now maybe haha. I hope you enjoy! I own nothing but my OC.)
...
"Could I have your attention please?" Professor Mcgonagall sharply called for attention as she stood in the middle of the Gryffindor Common room, carefully unrolling a small scroll in her hands as her students crowded nervously around her.
It had been a few hours since Hermione was brought into the hospital wing and the Quidditch Match as well as the rest of classes were cancelled for the remainder of the day.
By now everyone knew that there had been another attack and were all anxiously awaiting word of what would happen to the rest of them as they sat or stood around talking amongst themselves in their own respective common rooms.
Harry, Lucy, and Ron sat huddled in the back of the Gryffindor Common Room together not saying a word, but giving each other frightened and worried looks.
Lucy most of all looked the most pale and sick to her stomach as she listened for Professor McGonagall to continue.
Even with her cat pet, Athene sitting on her lap, mewing and batting playfully on her robes with her paws, she couldn't bring herself to smile.
"Because of recent events, these new rules will be put into effect immediately." Professor McGonagall spoke steadily despite the slight trembling of her hands as she hurriedly unrolled a small sheaf of parchment and read from it.
"All students will be return to their house common rooms by 6:00 every evening. All students will be escorted to each lesson by a teacher. No exceptions." McGonagall read, sighing as the reserved and somewhat frightened silence of her students greeted her annoucement.
Harry and Ron exchanged brief glances with each other.
"I should tell you this. Unless the culprit behind these attacks is caught...it is likely that the school will be closed immediately. Now off to your rooms. No one is to leave the Tower for the remainder of the evening." The sad, heavy hearted Deputy Headmistress finished with a sorrowful frown on her face, quickly moving to shoo the younger first years off from the common room first.
With a sigh, Harry leaned towards Lucy, giving her a nudge on the arm as an uneasy quiet murmur began to trickle about the common room again.
"Lu, I've been talking with Ron. We're going to talk to Hagrid tonight. I can't believe it's him, but..." He trailed off as Lucy glanced at him briefly.
"...If he did set the monster loose last time, he'll know how to get it back inside the Chamber before it petrifies someone else. That's what you want, right Lucy? To make this all stop? To stop the person responsible from killing someone next?" He pleaded, hoping that his sister would come to his side as always.
Instead Lucy sighed and shook her head, carelessly moving her hand to stroke Athene's fur as more students began to disperse to their own rooms.
"One of my best friends is petrified in the Hospital Wing right now, Harry. I'm not about to accuse another friend of putting her in there." She muttered sharply, scowling at the wall across from her as she spoke.
Harry sighed and let his head drop expecting her to answer this way, but disappointed nonetheless. "All right then. Stay safe okay? We'll come back as soon as we can and tell you anything we find out." He patted her hand lightly then stood to face his best friend who looked worried.
Lucy swallowed audibly and barely nodded her head.
"Harry, you heard Professor McGonagall. We're not allowed to leave the tower except for classes and even then we have to be with a teacher. How are we going to get to Hagrid's without being caught?" Ron asked in a low voice, afraid to be overheard.
Harry thought about this for a moment, before an idea came to him. "I think it's time we get out my Dad's old cloak. Come on." He responded, moving quickly in the direction of the boys dorms.
Ron followed at his heels and Lucy sighed as she watched them go. "I don't know anymore, Thenie. Am I doing the right thing? After all I saw the same thing Harry did in that diary. Should I go with them to talk to Hagrid?" She murmured, with her cat only nuzzling her collarbone in response.
Lucy emitted a soft giggle at the light tickly feeling that the nudge incited and started to pick up the little kitty in her arms, only to freeze when she spotted Ginny Weasley standing in a far corner of the common room looking even paler than Lucy was sure she herself appeared.
No one else seemed to notice her though and Lucy started to stand from her seat, deciding to try to reach out to her while cuddling Athene when Professor McGonagall suddenly swept back into the common room and swiftly ushered Ginny and a couple other younger students up to their dorms.
"Meew!" Athene squeaked as if as disappointed as her young mistress was. Lucy shook her head and pressed her cheek against her pet's soft white fur.
"I guess we'll just go to bed." She moved to follow a group of other girls up to the Girls' Dorms, wondering if she would even be able to sleep even for a second tonight.
...
"Meals will be served in the common room until further notice. You have precisely one hour to eat before classes resume. Don't dawdle." Professor McGonagall ordered briskly, sounded mostly well rested in contrast to half of her students.
Lucy groaned as she blinked tiredly at the platters containing buttered biscuits, eggs, sausages, porridge and berries.
She'd hardly slept at all due to the nightmares that kept coming, replaying the past petrifications as her mind involuntarily imagined them to be, complete with the screams of the victims assailing her until she woke up.
Looking away from the food briefly, Lucy scanned the common room again for her brother and Ron and not seeing them began to serve herself a biscuit with a slender slight hand suddenly reached over hers towards the tongs.
"Oh!...Oh my! I'm so sorry Lucy! I didn't know you were going for the biscuits too! I'm sorry!" Ginny began to blubber, her round white face turning pink with embarrassment.
Despite how tired she was, Lucy managed a warm reassuring smile for the younger girl. "It's okay. Go ahead and take one first, Ginny. I'll get some sausages." She offered, reaching towards the platter on the left of the biscuits.
Ginny offered a weak smile in returned and grasped the tongs for the biscuit firmly in her fingers. "Thank you. Are you...? I mean did you not sleep well last night? Not that I did either, I mean...it's just you look like you haven't slept a wink and well I wouldn't blame you. Not with everything's been happening." She murmured, glancing at Lucy briefly before moving to serve herself some scrambled eggs.
Lucy sighed and shook her head. "No, I couldn't sleep much. But as long as I don't fall asleep in my cauldron during Double Potions later today, no one should notice." She tried to joke weakly. Ginny laughed a bit before her expression turned serious again.
"I suppose...Listen Lucy...there's something I have to tell you...a-about-."
"Lucy!...Luuucy!" Harry called eagerly towards his sister bursting into the common room suddenly with Ron close by taking the empty spot on the couch next to her.
Seeing Harry, Ginny immediately flushed deep red and quickly scurried away, going to join some other first years across the room.
Slightly annoyed at the interruption, Lucy turned a narrow eyed look at her Twin hearing Ron whisper furiously about something regarding spiders before taking a bite of her biscuit.
"What are you on about?" She asked as Ron wasted no time piling a plate high with more than his share of breakfast.
Harry lightly tapped her shoulder. "We went to Hagrid's last night and...well you were right. Hagrid never did open the Chamber of Secrets. He was framed!" He said proudly as if expecting to be congratulated for his knowledge.
Lucy lightly rolled her eyes. "I could have told you that without interrogating him." She couldn't help her biting tone. Harry gave her a sheepish look in response.
"Well maybe, but technically Ron and I never got to really talk to him because the Ministry came and arrested Hagrid for the attacks on the school." He responded and Lucy felt her eyes grow as big and round as a pair of dinner plates.
"Hagrid's arrested? But they can't! He didn't do anything!" She protested, a little too loudly earning some glances from some of their fellow Gryffindor classmates.
Harry carefully nodded his head, lowering his voice. "I know, but Ron and I were able to figure out some things after they took him. So we were thinking," He gave Ron a look who paused mid-chew with his cheeks full of food.
"That we could all go to the library before dinner today to do some more research based upon what we found out last night. What do you think?" Harry asked. Lucy considered for a moment before a large yawn interrupted her train of thought.
"Sounds like a great plan, but would we even be allowed to go to the library right now? We weren't even permitted to go to the Great Hall for breakfast." She gestured at the platters set on the table in the common room.
Harry acknowledged her point. "Well, there's always Dad's cloak. I'm sure we can find a way for all three of us to fit somehow." He smiled then and leaned over to look Lucy in the eye.
Finally Lucy smiled and looked up to meet her brother's gaze before turning in Ron's direction. "Okay. I'm in." Ron choked on his food.
"Great!" Harry enthused, reaching to serve himself a plate of breakfast from whatever was left on the table.
"Let's meet in Myrtle's Bathroom at the beginning of free period. I'll sneak the cloak in my bag." He promised, scooping a generous portion of eggs on his plate as he talked.
Lucy tiredly nodded her head, sticking her fork into her last piece of sausage. "I'll be there."
...
"Class dismissed. Don't forget, your reports on a notable Renaissance Era Witch or Wizard are due in another week. Single file now and wait for me!" The ghostly Professor Binns floated past his students across the classroom as everyone quickly filed towards the door.
Lucy stifled another yawn as she carelessly shoved her belongings back into her bag and shuffled after her classmates, taking care to linger in the back of the line so she wouldn't be so easily noticed.
Following along with the rest of the Gryffindors, Lucy waited until they got an intersection in the corridors which separated the hall to the Hospital Wing and the hall to the Gryffindor tower and slipped off down the hall towards Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.
The sound of an eerie hissing voice caught her attention just as she rounded the corner one hall away from the out of the order lavatories.
Recognizing the voice as it began to whisper its familiar and incesssant demands for blood and to kill, Lucy began to run again until she was near the door to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.
There, standing halfway down the hall was a young girl in a student's uniform tracing her fingers on the wall opposite of the bathrooms.
Her long red hair was covering her face a little and though Lucy could only see her side profile, she knew instantly who it was.
Blood!... Lucy realized with a nauseating churn of her stomach, seeing the thick crimson substance that was staining the girl's fingers.
"Ginny?" She called out softly aloud, shocked to see her friend alone in the hall like this when the professors including ghostly Dr. Binns were all so actively chaperoning everyone around everywhere since the last petrification incident.
Whirling at the sound of her name, Ginny's eyes widened in horror just as a terrifying screech sounded directly behind her.
A scream ripped through Lucy's throat when a pair of glowing yellow eyes appeared in the darkness barely blurred by the fan of Ginny's distinctly colored hair. Instinctively Lucy raised her arms to shield herself, but it was too late.
Feeling the scream die on her lips, Lucy fell with a terrible crack on the hard stone floor, her body stiffening and the terrible hissing noise ringing through her ears until she finally blacked out.
...
(Special Shout Out for Senza Luna for giving me the idea to have Lucy get petrified. I was unsure at first about the idea, but it seemed more and more like an interesting one as I thought about it. More so than having both her and Harry fight in the Chamber of the Secrets. I didn't do it exactly as you suggested, but hope you like it anyway!)
