Adventurer's Guild Building, Wolf Tamer's POV
I just returned from another request with Alpha accompanying me by my side and before I could enter the guild. A group of four porcelain adventurers went out of the guild and dashed right past me while one of them accidentally bumped into him
"Oh! I'm sorry," A small girl wearing priestess attire apologized before bowing her head to me
"It's alright, Just be careful next time. Okay?" I said and she nodded and left to rejoin her party
As I entered the guild, The first person I approached to is Guild Girl. Whose standing by the desk, checking several jobs that are available for several adventurers in the guild
"Hello, Guild girl," I greeted and she turned to me with a smile "Welcome back, Wolf Tamer-san"
"I'm here to report that my job has been a complete success," I reported and she nodded her head
"Well, Congratulation on your success. Here is the reward money," She said, putting a pouch full of silver and a few gold coins on her desk. I took it and put it inside my bag
"Thanks, But mind if I ask you something?"
"What is it, Wolf Tamer?"
"I ran into a group of adventurers just before I came in here. I can ask what kind of quest did they take?"
"Well, They took on an urgent request earlier and the details of the quest are about eradicating a goblin nest not too far from here," She explained and I couldn't help but worry for them.
"What are their ranks?" I asked,
"All four members are Porcelain Ranked Adventurers," She said, and this made me worry even more and continued to ask, "Can you tell me what their party is like?"
She nodded and pulls out the job requests "One Warrior, One Fighter, One Wizard, and lastly One Priestess"
'The girl I bumped into must have been the Priestess of the Group' I said in my thoughts
"Is it okay, if I go to them and join on their quest? They might need some help since their still new recruits in the guild,"
"Sure, just be careful out there," She said,
"Let's get going, boy," I said to my dire wolf and he gave me a single bark as his response and we left the guildhall and we were on our way to the goblin's nest to assist the new members of the guild.
A few minutes later,
We both arrived at the cave where it's presumably the goblin's nest. I made a hand made torch and entered the cave with my wolf taking point. As we ventured deep into the cave, my wolf stopped moving and stopped them as well
"Did you smell something, boy?" I asked and my dire wolf started sniffing his nose while turns his head left and right to locate the source of the smell.
When he turns to the right one last time and began to growl in that direction and I knew what it meant.
"Good job. Now let's sick 'em, boy!" I ordered and the dire wolf barked once and we both charged towards the right tunnel. And hopefully, try to save the group before the goblins could wipe them all out at once.
Priestess POV
After we've entered the cave in search of the goblins that were kidnapping women in a nearby village. We took the left tunnel and went deeper into the cave. But unfortunately for us, we were ambushed by the goblins and they didn't hesitate to surround us,
We tried to fight them off. but due to our major disadvantage to the goblins, Wizard lost her staff when a goblin broke it in two and was stabbed by the stomach area with a dagger, Warrior tried to fight them with his sword but due to its long length blade. It bounces off from tunnel walls and left him wide open for the goblins as they ganged up on him and mauled or hacked him to death with their clubs and swords. Fighter witnessed her friend being slaughtered by the goblins and ordered me to take wizard and escape while she holds them off.
She managed to kick down a few goblins down, but when she attempted to kick at the hobgoblin head-on. It stopped her attack by grabbing her leg and slammed her body towards the wall. Then the other goblins lunged at Fighter and started ripping out her clothes while she tried to resist.
I watched in horror when the Goblins were about to rape Fighter as she ordered me to run. But before the goblin behind her could violate her. An arrow was shot at the goblin and was killed when the arrow went through the goblin's head.
The other goblins took notice. But another arrow was shot at them and the second goblin was killed when the arrow went through its head as well. Soon a dire wolf lunges in front of the third goblin and bites it by the neck and started flailing it around until it's neck break and threw the goblin straight into the other goblins
When Fighter looked up, she widens her eyes with a few tears and became somewhat relief at the sight of the person who had just come to save all three of them and that person was none other than Wolf Tamer, A silver ranked adventurer of the guild.
Wolf Tamer's POV
After we had reached the group, I managed to save most of the group and went towards Fighter while my Dire Wolf growls at the goblins as they kept their distances from us.
I soon approached Fighter and pulled her up on her feet and placed her on top of my dire wolf. Then I turned to Priestess and said, "Take Wizard and go! I'll be right behind you,"
"But what about-" She was cut off when I gave her a stern look to her, "I said go!"
Before she could protest any further, She decided to follow his order, pick Wizard up on her feet, and began to escape with my dire wolf following behind her. Leaving me to face the goblins on my own, I soon reached out for something inside my bag and pull out one of my bombs which I made and used the torch to light the fuse
"Hey, Freaks! Catch this!" I said as I threw the bomb towards the goblins and once it landed, it exploded and ended up killing several goblins in the blast while creating a smokescreen which allowed me to escape before the goblins could get a chance to chase after me.
After I've escaped from the jobs, I returned to my dire wolf along with the group we have saved and inspected every one of their injuries. So far, The only people who were injured were Wizard and Fighter while Priestess didn't suffer any injuries at all
Soon, I pull out a Health potion from my bag and tried to give it to Fighter. But she shook her head and said "No, give it to her first,"
She pointed at Wizard and went to her first and pulled out the dagger from her stomach area which causes her to wince in pain. I inspected the dagger and said to the two "The dagger coated with poison. The blade is mixed with their urine and excrement along with a combination of a few poisonous herbs. Luckily for her, I have an antidote that could save her in time. But in her current condition, she may not have the energy to drink the potion entirely,"
"What are you going to do?" Priestess asked me, and I simply ignored her as I open the potion, put it in my mouth, then I pressed my lips on Wizard's lips and gave her the antidote. Fighter and Priestess widen their eyes in surprise. But since he did it to save Wizard's life, they let him be.
After he had given Wizard the antidote, he pulls out a bandage from his bag and wrapped it around her stomach area to prevent any further bleeding. Once he was done, he tends to Fighter's injuries
"Now, let's see what the damage those goblins did to you," He didn't care for the fact the Fighter is currently naked since the goblins ripped out her clothes off. He simply checked her body for any injuries that were caused by the goblins and found that her right leg is the only severe injury she currently has right now. "Your right foot seems to be the only injury you have so far, so bear with me in this,"
"Why?" Before she knew it, I slowly twisted her right foot to ease her pain a little bit. She winces in pain as I kept twisting for a few short seconds. Once I was done, I grabbed another bandage and wrapped it around her right foot and slowly laid it down on the ground
"There, all done. Just don't push yourself and let it heal, okay?" I said and she lowered her head with her hair covering her eyes "Thank you for rescuing us. If you didn't come here sooner, I would have-"
I heard Fighter sobbing and her body was trembling when she was about to mention that she was nearly raped by those freaks. But I simply placed my hand on her shoulder "Don't worry about it. As long as I'm here, nothing bad will happen to any of you. I swear it,"
Fighter seemed to smiled a bit on my words. Then I removed my cape and gave it to her "Here, use this to cover yourself up with"
She took the cape from my hands and she covered herself up with it. I was about to smile when she felt relieved after everything that happened, but I stopped when my dire wolf started growling and barked a few times. The next thing I knew, An arrow was shot at me and landed right into my right shoulder.
I screamed in pain for and held on my shoulder while Fighter and Priestess gasped in shock when they saw him getting shot.
"Are you alright?!" Priestess shouts with concern
"I'm fine!" I turned to the direction where the arrow was fired at and saw six goblins laughing with glee when they saw me. "Damn, they must have followed us!"
Priestess became scared when the goblins appeared and were approaching them, Fighter felt the same since she couldn't do anything to protect Wizard and Priestess due to her injured foot.
But without any hesitation, I whistled to my dire wolf and he lunges towards one of the goblins sunk its teeth straight into the goblin's neck.
Then the dire wolf threw the goblin's straight into the other goblins while I grit my teeth in pain as I held onto my bleeding shoulder. Soon, I grabbed onto the arrow and was about to pull it out from my shoulder. But I had to take a deep breath then I fastly removed the arrow from my shoulder. Causing me to scream and curse for a moment,
I reached out for a healing potion in my bag, drank the entire bottle, pulled out two of my daggers and faced the goblins with my dire wolf by my side.
The five of them stood up and charged straight towards me. But I whistled for my dire wolf to attack one of them while I dealt with the two.
The dire wolf lunged towards one of the goblins and I was against two goblins holding clubs. One of the goblins jumped right towards me and attack with its club, but I blocked its attack with my dagger and threw the other dagger towards the goblins head. The second goblin wasn't heading towards me instead it went for the girls.
However, it was a big mistake for the goblin when I pulled out the other dagger strapped on my chest and threw it straight towards the goblin's back. Making it fall on the ground, I soon approached it and killed the goblin by pounding the dagger on its back with my foot.
My dire wolf had already finished off the third goblin and threw the body towards the wall and went back to me. I kneeled in front of him and pats his head a few times "Good boy, Alpha" I said, and he responded with bark and we both face the remain two once again
The other two goblins were about to attack us. But they soon notice a lone figure holding a torch approaching, so they decided to attack him instead of Wolf Tamer or the girls he's protecting.
The first goblin jumps at him, lands on his shield, and goes in for the kill by stabbing him on the shoulder. But the goblin became confused when its blade didn't go all the way through his neck,
The figure then pins the goblin towards the wall and uses his torch to burn the goblin's face until it died. "That's one," He counted
The last goblin tried to make a retreat back into the cave, but Wolf Tamer made a whistle and the dire wolf blocked the goblin from escaping while the figure threw his sword at goblin's head and killed it instantly. "Two,"
"Good to see you again, Wolf Tamer," He said and I smirk back to him "Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes," I replied
"Who are you?" Priestess asked
"Goblin Slayer," when Fighter looked below his helmet, she saw a silver tag wrapped around his neck
"He's a silver ranked adventurer," Fighter muttered in amazement. Meanwhile, Goblin Slayer saw the blood on my shoulder and approached me "What is someone like him doing here
"Are you hurt?" He asked and I nodded to him "Yeah, but I pulled out the arrow from my shoulder and drank a health potion. So you don't have to worry about it,"
"Good," He said, then he saw the corpses of the goblins "Three, Four, Five, Six..."
"Nice to see you have that habit of yours, Goblin Slayer," I commented, and he simply glanced at me without saying a word about my comment.
"And you still have yours, Wolf Tamer," He said, and I scoffed and kept on smirking "Touche, my friend,"
"But anyway, did you see any bigger goblins somewhere?" He asked
"Yeah, I saw one hobgoblin. I used one of my bombs to create a diversion for me to escape, I highly doubt that it would kill a goblin by that size"
"Then that means the goblins here have taken in a wanderer as their guard." He continued without giving a glance at us "I'm going to kill some goblins. What will you two do?"
"Since I'm involved in all of this, I might as well tag along." I replied and Priestess stood up from the ground and looked at Goblin Slayer "I'll go... with you..." she said nervously while I felt a bit worried for her current mental state
"What can you use?" He said,
"I can use Heal and Holy Light. I can use them three times and I haven't used any of them yet," She explained while Goblin Slayer approached a dead goblin and flips it body over "All right,"
He then glanced at the Injured Fighter and Unconscious Wizard "What about those two?"
"Wizard is currently unconscious after the whole ordeal of getting stabbed in the stomach while Fighter's only injury is her right foot and could barely stand up straight or walk properly. So I highly doubt she could help us right now" I explained,
"It's okay, I'll just carry Wizard outside of this cave while all three of you take care of those Goblins," Fighter said as she began to stand up from the ground while using the wall to support her balance
"Take Alpha with you, He'll keep both of you save as you exit the cave," I said, and she nodded to me. Then I kneeled in front of Alpha and said to him "Guide them out of the cave and stay with them once your done, okay?"
Alpha replied with a single bark and I nodded my head to him.
Fighter then picked up the unconscious Wizard onto her shoulders and Alpha guided them outside the cave. The three watched as they left, then, Goblin Slayer approached a corpse of a goblin and flips it over
"Are you going to do that again?" I asked and Priestess stared at me with confusion
"Yes, It's used for getting rid of the scent since those bastards have an extremely good sense of smell," He explained and I simply shrugged my shoulders to him "Eh, Can't argue with that"
"Wolf Tamer, What is he doing?" She asked me and her question was answered by Goblin Slayer instead of me "We need to get rid of your scent,"
Priestess gasped in shock while I simply shrugged my shoulders and let him do as he pleases.
He soon covered Priestess' clothes with the blood of the goblins to avoid being detected by the goblins smell, once he was done we continued to venture into the cave while Priestess was showing a few signs of discomfort after being covered with goblin blood and guts.
"Get used of the blood," Goblin Slayer said,
"Yes..." Priestess said, nervously
Soon we come across to what appears to be a totem and when went to the left tunnel. We saw at least seven more dead goblins and Warrior's corpse on the ground or what simply remains of him.
Goblin Slayer counted the number of goblins killed, but when the three of them saw Warrior's Body. Priestess was so horrified. It made her threw up after seeing the horrific sight of Warrior's dead body hacked into pieces and some of his body parts scattered in several places, Goblin Slayer approached Warrior's sword, picked it up and commented that his sword was too long to use in a cave. Meanwhile, I looked away from him since I still couldn't get used to newly registered adventurers dying on their first quest.
"How could this have happened?" She questioned and Goblin Slayer asked, "Were you attacked by a horde from behind?"
"Huh?"
I sighed at her answered and whistled to get her attention. Once she turned to me, I used my torch to showed her a side tunnel to the left.
"But... when we went through..."
"In a dark cave, if you all have is a single torch, you wouldn't have noticed the shadows along the cave walls" Goblin Slayer explained
"And that totem is the first thing that you'll see first," I followed and Priestess knew what it meant. "It's also a common mistake for rookies when they go onto a Goblin Slaying Quest," I added,
Priestess then knew what it meant. Her party was walking right into a trap and they fell for with which caused the life of Warrior, and nearly caused the life of Wizard, Fighter, and herself as well if Wolf Tamer didn't show up in time to save them.
"Goblins aren't the brightest creatures, but they're not complete fools either. As a matter of fact, this horde is being led by a shaman," Goblin Slayer commented about the Goblins
"Shaman?" She questioned and I answered, "A powerful spellcaster of the goblins, they're quite dangerous if you don't have anything to defend yourself against magic, But the weaknesses are the same as regular Wizards. You need to strike them before they could cast their spells,"
Suddenly, Goblin Slayer threw a torch inside the side tunnel and waited. When he saw a goblin approaching the torch. He immediately threw a dagger at the goblin's neck and went in for the kill by stabbing through its' head with his sword
"Fourteen," He said, then started dragging the goblin's dead body back to them
"Can you see in the dark?" She asked him, "Of course not, I just practiced. I always aim where their necks would be."
"How much did you practiced?" She asked, and Goblin Slayer stopped dragging the corpse said "A lot,"
"What about the sword?" Priestess questioned, and he said before going further into the tunnels "There's too much blood on it, It's practically useless to me now,"
Priestess then turns to me and asked, "Is he always like this?"
"He is, In fact, he hates goblins more than anything else in this world. But it's best to let him do what he wants. After all, I would've been long dead, if it wasn't him," I said and she was surprised at my words. Before she could ask anything else to him. Goblin Slayer spoke up to us "This Goblin was a scout, So this is the right path to the nest"
"Then we should lay down a trap then?" I said and Goblin Slayer hummed with an agreement to his plan.
We set up a rope trap, just near the entrance of the goblin's nest, and slowly approached went down the tunnel a bit. Notice the tunnel was getting a bit narrow, Goblin Slayer stopped and turned to Priestess
"Use your Holy Light from here. Once you do, get back to the entrance immediately" Goblin Slayer ordered, and she nodded at his command and readied her staff
"O merciful Mother Earth, please bless us, the wanderers in the darkness, Holy Light!"
After Priestess had chanted her spell. Her staff had illuminated the darkest parts of the tunnel and the goblins shielded their eyes upon the sight of this bright light.
Goblin Slayer charged right at the goblins and threw his spear at the Goblin Shaman before it could cast a spell then he passed through us "Fall back!"
"O-Okay!" Priestess replied following him while I simply smirked and followed behind him while the ones chasing after us a was Hobgoblin and two other goblins following behind it
Goblin Slayer then jumped forward to avoid get tripped over the rope trap and the same goes for Priestess and me.
"Do it again," Goblin Slayer ordered and drew the sword, he picked up earlier
"O merciful Mother Earth, please bless us, the wanderers in the darkness, Holy Light!"
As the staff illuminates light once more and temporarily blinded the Hobgoblin and tripped on the group by the rope trap.
"Fifteen," Goblin Slayer counted and brought the sword down on the hobgoblin's neck and sliced it.
"There's more of them coming, I doubt I can do anything to help right now," She said worryingly
"I know," Goblin Slayer said, then he poured something liquid on the hobgoblin's corpse then turned to me "Do the honors,"
"See ya!" I said and kicked the hobgoblin's corpse down to the tunnel and the liquid had been drenched onto two small goblins.
"Sixteen, Seventeen..." Goblin Slayer said, before tossing his torch at them and set those things on fire as they retreated further down to the tunnel.
"What was that?" Priestess asked
"I'm guessing that's gasoline, right?" I guessed and Goblin Slayer nodded, "Yes, I bought it from the Alchemist. It's wasn't very effective, for the amount of its cost."
"B-but inside... the kidnapped girls..." She said with concern,
"The fire won't spread too far with two or three corpses, They won't die," Goblin Slayer said and picked up a stone ax that was dropped by a goblin while I pull out two of my daggers readied myself for the upcoming goblins.
"Are you both going in again?" She asked, "No,"
"It's because those goblins have no idea that we're waiting for them to come out from their holes," I said and in perfect timing, four more goblins came out from the tunnel and went straight towards them. But Goblin Slayer and I took care of them without any effort at all.
After that, Goblin Slayer picks up a club and we went back further down the tunnel. We saw a large space with several women bruised and naked. Apparently, every last woman here was traumatized due to the goblins' constant rape towards them.
Goblin Slayer simply ignored them for a moment and approached the Shaman's body. But the latter wasn't dead as it tried to lunge towards him. Unfazed by this, Goblin Slayer smashed the head in one blow "Twenty-two..."
Then Goblin Slayer noticed the throne made out of bones and destroyed it with one kick. Which revealed a hidden door behind it. When he opened it, it revealed four goblin children fearing for there lives after being discovered by Goblin Slayer
Priestess had misplaced her sympathy for the goblin children while I, on the other hand, was in complete disgust by the sight of the goblin children since they came from the women they've raped. But when Goblin Slayer proceeds to kill the children.
I went to Priestess and gave her a comforting embrace while she and I listened to the dying cries of the goblin children. As if she had lost her innocence and continued sobbed while hearing those cries. And as for me, I feel no sympathy for those monsters. I just looked away and ignored the cries
Once Goblin Slayer was done, He exits the hidden room with his eye glowing red and the club dripping goblin blood down on the floor. "That's Twenty-Six,"
A few moments later, Priestess had stopped crying but was still affected by the sounds of dying children. I simply place my hand on her shoulder and snapped her out from her thoughts by saying "No more tears, Priestess. It's over... Even though you had to hear those cries, It's best to get over it and move on. He has his job, we have ours, Okay?"
She wipes off some of her tears and nodded, "Okay,"
"Good, Now let's go outside and meet up with the others. I'll contact the guild and get people for these girls," I said and Priestess took off while I started carrying the girls out of the cave one by one.
After the quest had been completed, a wagon had arrived and on it was a group of traumatized women and all of them were sent to a temple for rehabilitation from their trauma. I went over to Fighter and Wizard, who had just woken up, and told them about everything that had occurred. I also gave Fighter some clothes from a nearby village and we all returned to the guild to claim our reward.
Once the reward was collected, I tapped Fighter on the shoulder and caught her attention "Hey, I have something for you,"
"What is it?" I showed her something wrapped with some cloth and gave it to her. When she opened it, her eyes immediately widened when she saw Warrior's Sword and his Porcilean Tag. After that tears had fallen down on her cheeks as she embraced her friend's sword and started sobbing. But I reassured her that everything will be okay despite the loss she had suffered.
This was the life of an adventurer. When you take on quests, You've got to learn how to be strong and act smart in every situation.
Cause one wrong move... It can be your very last one...
