Hey Guys, Crescent Rider here. And I'm only here to remind you guys that I'm still waiting for your response to my question from the last chapter.
Also, In a future chapter. I'll be sending Wolf Tamer to join Goblin Slayer and his party as they clear out a goblin nest located in the ruins. Also, I'll be uncovering some of Wolf Tamer's past. This chapter is one of them.
Oh, and one more thing. The Rookie Adventurer from the last chapter is different than the one mentioned in Episode 5. He will be mentioned as Greenhorn Warrior to avoid any further confusion
That is all I have to say, And please enjoy the chapter.
Note: Greenhorn Warrior is a name that came from the dubbed version of the anime. And I haven't watched the dubbed version at all. Just the subbed version
Wolf Tamer's POV
After saving two rookie adventurers from the certain death of Goblins. Fighter and Wizard had decided to take a day off while Alpha and I look for any suitable quests at the request board.
I also heard that Goblin Slayer will be out on a quest with some company rather than a solo mission. The following members were Priestess, an Elf Archer, A Dwarf Shaman, and a Lizard Priest.
When I first heard that Goblin Slayer was joining a party, I couldn't help but smirk as I felt somewhat relieved that Goblin Slayer was going on a quest with a party than him going off all on his own.
As I kept browsing, I overheard some adventurers chattering at another table.
"Hey, Did you hear what the Hero just did?" Adventurer 1 inquired,
"Yeah, pretty amazing for someone her age. No wonder why she's special," Adventurer 2 stated,
"Taking on those demons all by herself, Makes you wonder how she's so overwhelmingly powerful," Adventurer 3 wondered,
"She isn't alone, you know. I heard she's accompanied by the Sword Saint and the Sage," Adventurer 1 said, "With them on her side, their an unstoppable force,"
"What I'd give to be in her shoes..." Adventurer 2 envied, "I bet everyone will acknowledge you just by doing these incredible things,"
"You can say that again!" Adventurer 3 said before all three of them started laughing at each other,
After overhearing their conversation, a recollection of the past clouds my thoughts...
Flashback, 3rd POV
In a small village once lies a happy family.
But when their home was razed down by demons, The parents forced the son to run with their infant daughter in his arms as demons consumed the very village.
Hiding in a large hollow tree where none would see them, the son cried as he watched his home burn to ashes and the cries of demons as they triumphed in their assault.
As the dawn comes, The son held his infant sister as he refused to leave the hollow tree due to his fear of demons lurking about his home.
But his fear subsided when a party of adventurers found the pair and took them to a village where a local orphanage was kind enough to keep the two of them together.
A few years later...
The Head Nun was business tending with certain matters in the kitchen when she soon hears someone tugging onto her dress.
When she looks down, she yelps in surprise when it was a young Wolf Tamer holding a dead bunny in one hand and a bag filled with freshly harvested vegetables in the other.
The young Wolf Tamer grins happily while the Head Nun remains rather tense before taking the dead bunny from his hand. But regardless, she was happy with him helping around especially when he was well versed with nature.
In the dining room, Several orphans were waiting for their means while the young Wolf Tamer went to a specific chair. When he sat down, some, in particular, sat next to him.
This was a young girl with short dark red hair, apricot-colored eyes, and a yellow headband on her head.
This was the young Hero, and also...
"Onee-chan!" Hero called out,
Wolf Tamer smiled and gently ruffles her head a couple of times. Causing her to grin happily before the Head Nun comes in with a pot while a Nun holds a stack of plates.
Head Nun places the pot on the center of the table and opens the cover. Every child at the table was overcome by the delicious smell of rabbit stew.
The Head Nun and Nun began to grab some plates, filled them up with the stew, and passes them to every child on the table. But before they begin with their meal, they all start with a prayer and the two siblings followed their example.
Once they finished, everyone dug in while the Head Nun and her subordinate watched over them. Occasionally, the child would have their cheeks covered with bits of their stew and the nuns would take the luxury of cleaning them up.
Eventually, every child at the table had finished their meal and they all wandered around to play certain games.
As for Wolf Tamer, he would occasionally join in with these games but sometimes he would wander around the forest and find certain ingredients for dinner.
But as he wandered around the forest, he would hear some animal whimpering nearby and curiosity got the best of him. When he got close, he saw a Direwolf corpse, and just near it was a Direwolf pup nudging its head against its deceased parent.
The ones responsible for its parent's death weren't adventurers as no one ever wanders these parts of the woods. Rather, they were killed by something smaller as its body was riddled with arrows and puncture wounds.
But when he looked around, he had already found the ones responsible for the parent's death. It was none other than Goblins as their weapons were lying near them.
When he got too close, he steps on a branch and the Direwolf pup turns around and growls at Wolf Tamer. From its expression alone, Wolf Tamer knew it wasn't aggressive. Rather it was overly protective and scared of him.
Seeing this pup reminded the past when the village fell against the demons that came to destroy them. With some empathy, Wolf Tamer slowly kneels, puts out some fresh milk he tends to save for himself, and pours it into his hand.
Then he slowly stretches his hand toward the pup and waited for it to come closer. Once the pup had caught the scent of milk, it cautiously approached him and sniffs at Wolf Tamer's hand.
Eventually, it started licking the milk off of his hand and Wolf Tamer chuckles at this.
Before long, a bond was formed...
6 Months Later...
After Wolf Tamer trained and fed the growing Direwolf as his companion, The Orphanage was reluctant on keeping it as the Head Nun feared that the Direwolf would hurt the children.
But when it chased down a thief and brought the stolen coins back, The Head Nun made an exception, and responsibility was given to Wolf Tamer while his little sister grew somewhat attracted to it.
Direwolf became everyone's favorite as it was calm and patient as many would mount onto its back, tug its tail and ears, and the nuns even gave it some food as they treat it as an honorable member of the establishment.
The boy and the Direwolf began inseparable as it never leaves the Wolf Tamer's side. And when one of them sleeps, the other will sleep beside him.
It also acted as the guardian of the Orphanage when a local drunkard attempted to harass one of the nuns. The moment it showed its fangs at the drunkard, he ran off as fast as his legs could take him.
In time, the orphanage became widely known throughout the continent and most passers stopped by to greet the boy and his Direwolf.
Then came one fateful encounter...
Another 6 Months Later...
As Wolf Tamer and his Direwolf were lying down on the field, The latter stared in a certain direction and the former took notice of this.
"What's wrong?" Wolf Tamer questioned,
When he turns in the direction of the Direwolf's gaze and spots his little sister wandering out of the orphanage in the distance.
He groans at this, then proceeds to stand up from the Direwolf's back, "Let's go get her before she wanders too far from the orphanage,"
The Direwolf then proceeds to lie down and Wolf Tamer rides on its back before tightly holding onto its fur. Then the two left the orphanage to pick up her sister while the nun exclaimed something but they were unable to hear her as they were already too far.
A while later, Wolf Tamer and his Direwolf were near her location as the latter has the girl's scent. Before long, they soon found her with a strange armored man sharpening wooden spikes just out of town.
"Nee-chan!" Wolf Tamer called out,
"Huh? Onee-chan!" Hero called back,
As soon as he was close to her, Wolf Tamer dismounts from the Direwolf and grasps onto her shoulder, "How many times have I told you to not wander out of the orphanage. Do you know that monsters are lurking out there,"
"I'm sorry," Hero apologized,
"What am I going to do to you," Wolf Tamer muttered, then turns to the armored man while holding onto his sister's hand, "I hope she didn't disturb you, Mister. She tends to leave the orphanage unattended,"
"Not at all," The Armoured Man said while still sharpening the wooden spike,
Wolf Tamer stared at the Armored man for a time, then gives a question to him, "You're not from here are you?"
"I am not," The Armored Man said,
"I see," Wolf Tamer said, "Then that must mean you're an Adventurer?"
"I am," The Armored Man replied,
"Why are you here?" Wolf Tamer said,
"To kill goblins," The Armored Man answered, and the term 'Goblin' was enough to make Wolf Tamer's Direwolf growl with his fangs showing.
"Easy, Boy," Wolf Tamer calmly ordered and Direwolf eases down,
"Strange... I never knew a boy your age would tame a Dire Wolf," The Armored Man commented,
"I found him when he was just a pup and we became friends after that," Wolf Tamer noted, "In fact, I found him when he lost his mom to some of those creatures. Because of that, the word 'Goblin' is enough to infuriate him,"
As the term was mentioned, the Dire Wolf growls once more, and Wolf Tamer calms it down by placing his hand onto its snout, "See what I mean?"
The Armored Man had stopped sharpening the wooden spike and turned to the Direwolf. Just by staring at its eyes, he could tell that he and Direwolf share the same grudge against Goblins...
"I see..." The Armored Man said, before sharpening a wooden spike again,
When the head nun of the orphanage came to pick up the two, she briefly apologizes to the Armored Man. But he assures her that nothing troublesome had happened before taking the two children back to the Orphanage.
The Direwolf follows the three, but the Armored Man momentarily glances at the Direwolf as if he's seeing a reflection of himself within the Direwolf.
The following night, everyone in the orphanage went to sleep while the Armored Man did his job until morning...
End of Flashback, Wolf Tamer's POV
After Wolf Tamer finishes recollecting the past, he snaps out of his cloud of thought and proceeds to find a suitable job on the border.
But that's when he was approached by a party of adventurers...
"Um, Excuse me?" Newbie Adventurer 1 called out, and Wolf Tamer turns to him,
"Yes?" Wolf Tamer inquired,
"I hope you don't mind us asking... But can you help us?" Newbie Adventurer 1 requested, and his party consists of four young Adventurers,
Wolf Tamer smiles as he took notice of their rank, and puts his attention to them, "What do you need?"
The Four Newbie Adventurers began with a simple request of hunting Goblins as their starter job and they approached him for advice. At the end of the conversation, Wolf Tamer decided not to give any. But instead, he offered to tag along with them as he didn't want young lives to be wasted at the hands of the goblins...
Thus, he precedes his reputation in the Frontier...
So what do you all think? Let me know and I may respond to your opinions in the next chapter. Also, I'm aware that it's been so long since I've updated this story.
But I promise that I'll do some occasional work on the chapters.
That is all, stay safe from the virus, and I will see you all in the next chapter
