As a middle school student, I had always been a bit of a nerd. So it was common for me to never be in a large group of friends. However, after moving to Canada because of my father's job in my freshman year, that had changed for the better. Samantha "Sam" Giddings changed that for me.
Samantha Giddings, or Sam as we call her, is still one of my best friends and the first person I had met when I moved down here; we'd been close ever since. She's a fair skinned, blonde haired, hazel eyed young woman. She always kept her hair tied up in a messy bun with a few loose locks hanging by her face.
She usually wore dark lipstick and had unique looking yet bright colored nail polish. Sam's a caring, confident person; always concerned with other people's feelings. She's a lover of nature and animals, which is something that we always bonded over. She's also not afraid of being herself, which is a trait I always admired.
Then, there was Hannah Washington, who was also a good friend of mine. She had dark, shoulder length hair and brown eyes. Her and her twin sister, Beth, were a few inches taller than me. Hannah wore black rectangular glasses and she had a tattoo of a butterfly on her right arm, which is one part of her rebellious behavior to get Mike's attention. She also had this insanely huge crush on this guy, to the point of it being unhealthy despite Hannah being a nice, outgoing girl.
Her twin sister, Beth Washington, had a caring yet protective personality towards her sister, brother, and friends. Both twins had light caramel skin. Beth had short, dark hair that goes just below her chin with bangs covering her forehead.
There's Ashley Brown, who had shoulder length red hair and green eyes like me. She is a friendly, cheerful, and inquisitive person, who's always happy to be in our group of friends. Unlike us, she doesn't swear as often or uses any form of profanity. She has a wild imagination, which is a trait that we bonded over. She's got this big crush on Chris as well.
Next was Chris Hartley, who was methodical, protective, and humorous. He has a witty sense of humor that could be off-putting from time to time. He had dirty blonde hair that's in a faux-hawk style and grey rectangular glasses. He's also got a crush on Ashley; why they haven't gotten together yet is still beyond me.
Emily Davis is a young Asian-American woman with long bobbed black hair, olive skin and dark eyes. There are times where she can be a bit bitchy. She even verbally lashes out at anyone and often puts others down because of her well-esteemed pride. Don't know how the hell we ever bonded or ever got along.
Matt Taylor is an African American guy with short black hair and brown eyes. He's usually motivated, ambitious, and active, which is why he has passion for sports. Despite his strong appearance, he's the opposite of impetious but otherwise he's a good guy.
Jessica Riley is a confident and trusting young woman with blonde hair and grey eyes. Her hair is usually put up in two Dutch braids. She's laid back, flirty, and playful. She sometimes acts immature but can get defensive and fierce.
Mike Munroe is an intelligent, driven, and persuasive guy that has dark brown hair, brown eyes, fair skin and has a five o'clock shadow. He can sometimes come off as being full of himself and immature, he's a good guy to hang around with nonetheless.
As for me, I'm a warm, caring person who's got the tomboy exterior. I am strong willed and love my independence. However, I am afraid of the supernatural considering I lived in a haunted house when I was a child. I got fair skin with green eyes and messy brown hair with loose locks hanging by my face.
Lastly, there's Josh Washington, Beth and Hannah's older brother. He also
has short brown hair and caramel skin and green eyes, unlike his sisters. He's always been thoughtful, loving, and complex. Although he tries to be humorous, he's been struggling with dealing with Hannah and Beth's disappearance. It made all of us regret ever going back up to the mountains that year.
This night had come so much faster than I thought. The snowy, dark weather made the woods from outside give me more or an eerie feeling. However, that was the least of my worries right now.
Mike and some of the others were planning a prank on Hannah. He was going to lure her in and take advantage of the fact that she has a massive crush on him. Unlike them, Sam and I wanted no part of it.
After looking outside, I turn around to rejoin Sam and them, who were in the bar area of the lodge. Jess just got through writing a note that'd trick Hannah into seeing Mike. Sam sees me walk up next to her.
"Oh my god! I can't believe we're doing this." Emily whispered. We tell her to be quiet. "This is cruel, even for your standards." I whisper, crossing my arms. "C'mon, she deserves this." Jess chuckled, turning to face me with a smug grin.
"I agree with Lilly," Sam said, "It's not Hannah's fault that she's got a massive crush on Mike." "If it were me, would you do this?" I ask, crossing my arms. They know that I've got a crush on Josh, but not as obsessive.
"Hannah's been making the moves on him. I'm just looking out for my girl, Em." Jess replied, pointing at me slyly. "Just because he's class Prez doesn't mean he belongs to everyone. Mike's my man." Emily replied, fixing her hips. We all went into the next room, which was the living room.
"Em, I'm not anyone's man." Mike said, considering he's not fond of commitment. "Whatever you say, darling." Emily commented. I had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, therefore I felt the need to find Hannah and warn her about this.
"Sam, we gotta warn Hannah. I don't have a good feeling about this." I say, rubbing the back of my neck. "You and me both. I'll check upstairs. You scout down here." Sam replied, looking just as nervous as me. "Alright, see you on the other side." I reply, putting a hand on her shoulder.
I turn around and go to the kitchen to try to find Hannah. By the time I found her, I was too late in stopping her from reading the note. She's over the moon about what the note said.
"Hannah, there you are." I say, jogging up to her. "Lilly, can you believe it? Mike wants to see me." Hannah replied, her face filled with joviality. "Um, Han, I don't think that's the case." I reply, "I think they're tricking you, taking advantage of you."
"Huh, what? How can you say that? Is it because you're too much of a coward to ask Josh out? You want me to stay single too? Mike actually wants to meet me. I thought you'd support me on this." Hannah replied, completely offended by my disregard of the note.
"Hannah, hon, I do support you. Sam and I do. But he's not wanting to see you in that way." I reply, trying to keep her from going. "You're no friend at all!" Hannah snapped, storming away from me. "Hannah, wait!" I call, shaking my head in disbelief, "God dammit…"
She can't be serious. Does she really believe a note over me? I'm just trying to help her and she brushes it off.
I turn to tell Sam what's going on but I see Beth walk in. "Lilly, what's going on?" Beth asked me, noticing the anxious look on my face. "Oh, god. Beth, Hannah won't listen to me. I told her that… that Mike and them are tricking her and she didn't believe me." I replied, feeling my heartbeat become faster.
Before Beth could reply, the both of us saw someone run by the window and I knew right away that it was Hannah. "Oh shit. Shit, no." I exclaim, running to where the front door was. The others had ran to the front door after Hannah figured out what was going on. And I know that Sam wasn't a part of this fucked-up prank.
We all ran outside into the cold, the wind picked up a bit more, thrashing the snow every which way. "Hannah!" Sam and I called, cupping our mouths with our hands to make ourselves sound louder. "Where's my sister going?" Beth asked, pushing passed us, now wearing her hot pink coat.
"It's fine. She just can't take a joke." Jess said, waving it off like it was nothing. "It was just a prank, Han." Emily said, also acting as if it was not a big deal just like Jess. They don't seem to realize how much they embarrassed Hannah.
"What'd you do?!" Beth screeched, looking from us to the woods constantly. "We're just messing around Beth, it wasn't serious." Mike said, throwing up his hands as if to surrender. "You JERKS!" Beth yelled before running into the woods, "Hannah! Hannah!"
We all watch as Beth disappears to find her sister. I was in disbelief at what happened. "So… should we go after her?" Mike asked, looking around the
group.
Sam and I scoff at what he said. "You know, I think you're the last person she wants to see right now, Mike." Sam scolded him. "Yeah, after you humiliated her, I wouldn't blame her." I spat, crossing my arms in disappointment.
The twins were never seen again after that night. Ever since then, I still felt guilty about not going after them, but I also felt relieved because I'd be also missing. Now they're gone because of some stupid prank that Mike and them thought would be funny.
This is a rewritten take on my Until Dawn story. I'm gonna keep the other version up on here if you choose to read it.
