Chapter 2

Sesshomaru, Daiyoukai, Lord of the Western Lands. Son of the great dog general, Inu no Taisho and Lady InuKimi, heir to the House of the Moon. The lord was born to greatness and lived up to such standards. Unlike most demons, he did not pursue even one shikon shard to enhance his power and considered any demon who did pathetic and weak. He was indeed the killing perfection and ruled his lands as such. He was feared by all and respected by many. Lord Sesshomaru is not just a great monarch, he has the looks too. His hair is the most beautiful silver color that comes to his waist, silky enough it begs to be caressed. His eyes, so golden and warm, they give the sun a run for its beauty. Below his eyes are two magenta strips that spread across his cheeks and eyelids and in the center of his forehead sets a blue crescent moon signaling his royalty.

A bright full white orb in the sky shows the start of a new moon. Our young lord, standing on a hill gazing at the stars, does not see the sky he is looking at. No, his mind is far too full of thoughts of an annoying human girl. It was six moons ago when Sesshomaru met her, his younger brothers wench. How could a human girl draw his father's sword? No one, save him, should be able to wield a sword of such caliber let alone a ningen woman. This girl, this creature has intrigued the great lord, one who is not so easily curious. The miko has certainly caught lord Sesshoumaru's attention. He could not stop thinking about her. No matter the angle he looked at it, he had no idea how she was able to pull the sword from its resting place, even more impossible she survived his doku. The miko was a puzzle to him, one he was going to solve.

As the months passed after the visit to his father's tomb, Sesshomaru followed his brother's tachi to better observe the woman child. She was obviously different from the average woman of this era, from her choice of indecent dress to the way she spoke. He could not convince his beast, to his utter annoyance, to let the girl drift from his memory. He found himself seeking out Inuyasha under false pretenses of taking his father's heirloom, just so he could see the miko. Sesshomaru accepted the day he found his father's fang; it was not the wish of their sire to have the better weapon. No matter, he would have a sword forged from his own fang to rival the great tessaiga. Instead, he used this as an excuse to find the answers to his many questions.

One early morning, the lord of the west found himself yet again drawn to seeking out the girl. Perched in a tree of a silent forest where the wildlife had yet to stir, he sat out of sight; he had his scent and aura masked so he would not be noticed as he watched the woman child, who plagued his mind, sleep with curious eyes. The group was still slumbering as a red clad figure jumped from a tree above the miko. A slight tightening of his eyes indicated he did not like the way his half breed, half brother treated the girl and his pack. He watched the hanyou kick the miko in the side to wake her from her rest. Startled, the young woman shot up from her strange sleeping sac, reaching for her bow and arrows, searching frantically for danger. "Oi, bitch wake up! You're sleeping the day away! Get your breakfast and clean up so we can leave, we got jewels to find and you're wasting my time!" Rubbing her eyes in an innocent manner she glared at the hanyou standing in front of her. "Inuyasha… SIT BOY!" Sesshomaru had to fight the urge to cover his ears at the loud command, smirking slightly as he watched the baka fly face first into the unforgiving ground making dirt and dust fly up around him. "What the hell was that for wench?!" Inuyasha yelled, jumping to his feet as soon as he was able. "How can you ask such a stupid question? That was for kicking me to wake me up and yelling at me for no reason! How can you be so rude!" Kagome yelled, fire in her eyes at being woken to roughly. "You're such a jerk!" Shooting to her feet the girl grabbed her strange yellow sac and walked off into the trees. "Inuyasha you really should be more kind to lady Kagome" chastised the hoshi. "Yeah 'Gome doesn't deserve to be treated like that Inubaka!" The small kit of the group yelled then leaped to the safety of the taijiya's arms when Inuyasha lunged at him. Shaking his head, Sesshomaru watched as his half brother was struck with the slayer's weapon and lectured about attacking the small fox child. Jumping from the tree he occupied a moment ago the lord decided he would go find some weak demons to kill. It was a disgrace to his father's name to have a half breed taint his royal blood and to make things worse, he could not even be a proper alpha to his misfit pack.

As the sun started to set in the orange hued sky on a particularly warm summer evening, Sesshomaru was patrolling his lands when he caught the scent of his brother and his pack coming from the east of his borders. His beast stirred in the confines of his mind demanding they get more answers to the mysterious miko, giving in to his beast he went in search of the group. "SIT!" Was heard echoing through the trees to the demon lord's ears. Stopping just out of sight in the cover of the shadows, Sesshomaru watched his idiot half sibling being subdued again. He would never admit it but he enjoyed watching the half breed eating dirt at the girls will. He observed the group as they made their way off the path to set up camp. Looking at the boy in his own crater it was obvious who the real alpha of the group was and this intrigued the young lord. "She makes for a strong alpha even if she is a human woman" his beast growled in his cage, pushing against his chains to watch the impressive sight before them. "Hn" was his only reply as his beast disappeared into his cell again.

While the miko prepared their evening meal, Sesshomaru watched the "alpha" sit in a tree and do nothing for his pack. Glaring at the hanyou the lord turned his attention back to the strange girl. She took on the role of alpha and female alpha well. He noticed the female looking at the half breed often and wondered of the relationship between the two. "He could never be a mate to the girl, she is much too powerful for the half breed scum!" his beast snarled. "Of what concern of ours is it whom the miko chooses to mate" the western lord snapped back at his beast, forcing him back deep in his mind.

As the sun approached the horizon, the females of the group stood and walked into the woods in step behind a neko demon. Rising, the demon lord followed, curious to where they were going. Finding the pair at a hot spring, Sesshomaru sat in a tree just behind and to the right of the spring, out of sight of the women but not far enough away not to hear them. "...he keeps lying to me and I think he knows I know" spoke the miko to her pack mate. Sesshomaru could smell her sadness as he listened to their conversation. Shifting in the tree, he heard them speak of the hanyou and hoshi in their group, the miko spoke of anything but his brother obviously avoiding the topic. Their idle chatter was annoying the young lord and he was about to leave when the taijiya exited the spring and the miko stayed behind. A deep sigh caught his attention along with the palpable scent of sorrow, confusion, determination, then sorrow again. He did not understand how a human could experience so many emotions so quickly. Sesshomaru was slightly surprised at what he heard next, so much so that he inched closer unknowingly. "But still, I may not love Inuyasha. It's just...life here can be lonely. I know I could never be with a human male they're just too different, if only I could meet a demon that would .." the miko suddenly stopped speaking and turned to look directly into his eyes. What he was met with he will never forget, staring back at him was the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen. They were like the bluest sky on a clear day.

Snapping out of his reprieve he was angered at being caught and surprised that she knew he was there. The daiyoukai was gone before the scream in her throat could leave.
