Chapter 14

Kagome fingered the half complete jewel that hung around her neck. There was only one shard left to find. Each day, as they grew closer to finding the last piece, she could feel the call inside her growing stronger. She knew that she and Naraku each had half of the jewel and the last piece belonged to someone or something to the east.

Kagome was traveling with Sesshomaru alone. She requested Rin be sent back to the shiro because she knew the end of the jewel's journey drew near and she didn't want little Rin caught up in it. She had to send Ashi with the child to console her.

They had been traveling alone for a week now. Things were going well, it was comfortable. Kagome had a few more nightmares since the incident so she and Sesshomaru slept together every night. She felt safe that way. She hadn't had one in a few days now but they slept together anyway. It was their norm now. She felt like they were getting closer. They had shared more about each other and when they were alone she felt like he opened up. He was also being more protective.

The two just finished taking out a group of slimy demons who were after her shards. Thankfully Kagome came out unscathed and not a drop of slime on her. She and Sesshomaru were now searching for a spot to camp. Kagome wasn't really paying attention, just following mindlessly.

She was brought to a sudden stop when she ran into Sesshomaru's back. She lost her footing and was about to fall on her butt when Sesshomaru whipped around and caught her.

They were very close now. Almost nose to nose. Kagome blushed right away. She shared his warm breath and could almost taste his lips. Then suddenly they were on hers. She was shocked at first but only for a second. With a small needy moan she let her eyes drift shut and returned the kiss. Letting her instincts take over along with the heat inside, she deepened the kiss. Kagome weaved her hands into his silky hair and pressed herself closer. Sesshomaru had lifted her back upright at that point. His hands traveled down her back and across her bottom so he could cup her thighs.

Seconds later she was lifted. She giggled, only breaking the kiss for a moment as she wrapped her legs around his waist. She felt something rough against her back and figured she was now pressed against a tree. Arching her back, she deepened the kiss further and let her tongue glide along his lip. He opened and she dived in, both of their tongues fighting for dominance, Sesshomaru being the victor.

It felt like forever and also only seconds when they finally parted. Both were breathing deeply after not taking in oxygen for so long. Sesshomaru reached up and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Come my little minx, it is getting late and we need to make camp," the lord said while backing up. Kagome smiled, her cheeks tinted red again as she slid down the tree to her feet.

They both walked in comfortable silence a short distance to a small cave. Sesshomaru excused himself to go hunt for their dinner. Kagome was outside the entrance to the cave collecting firewood. She had everything ready inside for the night and now only needed the wood to cook whatever Sesshomaru caught. She got a weird feeling, it felt like someone was watching her. She kept looking over her shoulder and around her but found nothing. Shrugging to herself, thinking it was probably an animal, she went back to collecting wood. When the sound of a twig snapping reached her ears she got even more creeped out. "Who's there?" Kagome called. Again, nothing. She continued collecting, praying to the Kami it was just an animal. She kept her guard up in case she was wrong.

Suddenly a hand came around her mouth and a dagger cut into her side. "What do we have here? A woman all alone in the woods? How does a lowly bandit get so lucky?" Sneered a man into her ear. Kagome's eyes widened in fear. This was a human, she couldn't use her powers. The young woman tried to think quickly. 'What do I do? What do I do?' She tried not to panic. Remembering some self-defense she learned in gym class, Kagome brought her heel up and jammed it into the man's groin. When she was free she turned and jammed an elbow into his side and stomped as hard as she could on the arch of his foot. The man screamed with the sickening crack signaling a bone break.

Kagome took this chance to scream and run for the trees. She didn't make it there. A pair of strong arms caught her. With another scream ready to leave her throat she looked up and sighed in relief. A red-eyed Sesshomaru had returned and he looked pissed. Kagome was pushed behind him instantly. She felt his Moko-moko wrap around her but she grabbed hold of Sesshomaru as well.

Seconds later Kagome heard an ear piercing scream then nothing. After a moment she peaked over his shoulder and all she saw in the bandits place was a smoking pile of acid.

Kagome slowly walked around Sesshomaru to look at him. His eyes were still red and his markings were jagged. His beast was trying to take hold. "Sesshou? Hey, it's ok now. See, I'm alright. Come back to me ok?" Kagome said while she tried to calm his beast. Sesshomaru's eyes began to flash gold and after a while they stayed his usual shade. She was wrapped in his arms before she could blink. The fast movement startled her at first but then she relaxed.

A few minutes passed and then Kagome's adrenaline rush was gone. There was a sharp sting in her side so she pulled away from the embrace to reach down and check it. She brought her hand back up to see it was covered in blood. The man had somehow pulled her armored haori up and was able to cut her skin. The world started to spin so she clutched Sesshomaru for support. He lifted her into his arms and quickly brought her into the cave. He set her down gently on the open sleeping bag. Kagome shakily pulled her haori open more to expose the wound. She put her hand over the bleeding gash and summoned her powers to the surface. Seconds later the pain was gone. She lifted her hand and the only evidence of her injury was the blood left behind.

Kagome looked up to Sesshomaru and smiled. "All better," she said tiredly. She found her personal bubble was being invaded again. In the next moment Kagome's bloody hand was in his. He brought her fingers to his lips and began licking them clean. When that was finished he bent to her belly and cleaned up that blood too.

"We must complete the courting process. I am to give you a courting gift. You will examine it and approve of it if it is to your liking. Then when you are ready we will mate," Sesshomaru explained. "I will love anything you choose for me because it is from you," Kagome said sweetly. "Hn, we will see," Sesshomaru said, then pulled her flush against his body, "Until then we will get to know one another's likes and dislikes." Kagome blushed, "I've never, you know, done anything like that." She said shyly. "Hush little miko, I will show you all you need to know. Tonight I will give you a new pleasure you could have never imagined," Sesshomaru said as he undid her hakamas and slid them down. "Ahh," Kagome moaned when Sesshomaru forced her thighs apart and dove between them with his tongue.

Kagome breathed out a tired sigh as she curled into her lord's bare chest. "You should laugh more my lord. It becomes you," Kagome said with a yawn. She started to drift off as Sesshomaru ran his fingers through her hair. She wasn't sure, but she thought she heard him say, 'I love you' right before the darkness of sleep took her.
