Chapter 18

A warm afternoon light showed through an exhausted woman's eyes as she opened them to a blurry sky, and an odd wet feeling on her side. She moaned softly and turned her head to the mysterious feeling. When her vision cleared she saw Sesshomaru bent over her, licking the wound from Naraku's tentacle. She smiled and lifted her hand to run it through his hair. "Are you well?" Sesshomaru asked with concern in his eyes. "I'm fine now it looks like my wound is all better thanks to you," Kagome replied. She pulled her haori back into place then leaned over and nuzzled Sesshomaru's cheek in thanks. A soft purr vibrated through his chest at her affections.

Kagome sat up carefully and looked around. They had moved off to the side of the battle scene and it was late afternoon now. "How long was I out?" asked Kagome. "A few hours," Sesshomaru replied as he looked at the sky. "I can't believe it's over," Kagome said half to herself as she looked around their battlefield.

Feeling content and proud, Kagome leaned up in Sesshomaru's lap and sighed into his neck. "We did it," the young miko said happily. "Hn," the western Lord replied while resting his cheek atop Kagome's head. They sat quietly together for a while until Sesshomaru tensed beneath Kagome. "My half brother and his pack approaches," said the Lord. Kagome groaned and buried her face in Sesshomaru's chest. The young miko was then lifted and sat on her feet. She was still weak so she allowed Sesshomaru to push her slightly behind him. "The stench from the battle and the fact he is down wind allowed him to get close without my knowledge." The lord said angrily.

Only a few moments passed before a rush of silver unkempt hair let Kagome know of the arrival of her old pack mate. She only saw Inuyasha and Kikyo so far. She could barely make out Kirara, with her increased eyesight in the distance with the rest of the group.

"Oi, bitch, where's Naraku? I smell him around here," Inuyasha demanded rudely. Sesshomaru snarled loudly while his hair lifted in a phantom breeze. "You WILL NOT speak to this one's intended as such! Is this Sesshomaru clear, pup?" Sesshomaru bit out. "What the fuck do you mean intended? I said it before and I ain't saying it again she ain't yours! I'm just leaving her here for convenience. That wench is coming with me as soon as I kill Naraku! Now where is he?!" Inuyasha yelled angrily. Sesshomaru growled louder and drew his sword.

Kagome sighed, she didn't have the strength to deal with this right now. She would let Sesshomaru take care of the idiot. She was struggling to stay conscious, it was too soon to be messing around after her battle.

"Shut the fuck up ice prick, get talking! Where's Naraku?" screamed the hanyou. Kagome's head was pounding and she was starting to get dizzy. "Insolent mutt! You are walking a fine line, leave or perish!" Sesshomaru threatened. Kagome saw Inuyasha draw his sword. "I ain't going nowhere! I'll just kill you then Naraku!" Inuyasha bellowed cockily. "Stop it Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled, finding the strength to defend her intended, "Naraku is dead!"

The miko leaned heavily into Sesshomaru's back for support. "What are you talking about wench?! Are you trying to say you killed him? Ha! Don't make me laugh," Inuyasha taunted. Kagome sighed, "It's true you baka, Sesshomaru and I finally rid that monster of this world a few hours ago."

Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kirara arrived at that moment and landed between the two groups. "Kagome!" yelled Sango as she went to embrace the woman. Both Inuyoukai growled, making the taijiya stop in her tracks. "It's alright Sango," Kagome called out. "Stay back Sango, that bitch abandoned us and she's a liar. She thinks she killed Naraku," Inuyasha yelled. Kagome looked down sadly, she still felt guilty for leaving the others but Inuyasha was making her life miserable.

"Inuyasha please," Miroku said. "Lady Kagome, if I may, is it true that Naraku is dead? My wind tunnel is gone," the monk inquired hopefully. Kagome smiled and nodded. "Hai Miroku, it is true he is dead." The miko smiled wider as she watched Miroku, Sango and Shippo hug each other happily and jump up and down. Miroku was free of his deadly curse that Naraku had forced upon each generation of men of his family.

"Oi, shut up you guys!" Inuyasha yelled rudely. He turned back to Kagome and took a step forward. "If you guys killed that bastard then he was weaker than I thought. Kikyo!" the half demon yelled. "Which one of them has the jewel? I'm taking back what's mine!" Kagome watched Kikyo look back and forth quizzically between herself and Sesshomaru.

Kagome's lip curled up in a half smile. "She doesn't know Inuyasha. Her power is gone," the young woman spoke. She was almost happy. Kagome could see it now. Kikyo's aura was weak, she had no miko powers left and her time in this world was coming to a quick end. Again. "What the hell are you talking about slut! Kikyo is more powerful than you ever will be. That's why you hang around that fucker because you ain't powerful enough to survive!" shouted Inuyasha angrily.

"ENOUGH!" Sesshomaru roared. Green youki was now visible as it seeped from him with his ire. He started to step towards the fool who had no filter when Kagome grabbed the back of his haori. "Please my Lord, he's not worth it," Kagome said sweetly to Sesshomaru while stroking his back soothingly. Looking back at the half demon who tortured her for so long, she summoned her courage and said something she had only dreamed of saying. "Leave Inuyasha. I never want to see you again. I will not stand by and let you treat me like the dirt you walk on any longer. I am not worthless and I'm done letting you treat me as such. If we ever see you again, I won't stop Sesshomaru from doing as he wishes." Kagome said, then turned away from her ex-friend never to let his cruel words bother her again.

Inuyasha growled loudly but was cut off by what happened next. Kikyo drew her bow and fired an arrow right at Kagome. There was no spiritual power clinging to it, it was a lifeless dud like its owner. Sesshomaru reached out and caught the harmless stick. He crushed it into dust and let it slip through his fingers.

Kagome slowly turned around after she gave Sesshomaru a look that said she would handle this. "You! I want to hate you, I want to hate both of you but I don't. You are nothing to me now and I refuse to let you hurt me anymore!" Kagome said with a sad yet determined voice. With a dramatic swipe of her hand and twirling gesture that led to her heart Kagome summoned a powerful wind that raced towards the clay woman and passed right through her. At first nothing happened and like the cowards they were, Inuyasha and Kikyo began to laugh.

A loud crack stopped them both as they all watched a pink power burst from Kikyo's chest and dissipate in front of her. Suddenly hundreds of souls shot out from the dead miko. They all flew into the sky to escape the cold prison of the evil woman. Kikyo didn't even have time to scream as her body crumpled to the ground once again as only graveyard soil. Inuyasha's eyes bleed red in anger. "You fucking bitch! I'll kill you!" Inuyasha bellowed as he charged towards Kagome.

Instantly the brainless half demon was thrown far from Kagome across the field and into a tree. Sesshomaru charged after Inuyasha with a speed that was almost invisible. A huge purple blast erupted from the daiyoukai's sword and right at the disoriented half demon. A brilliant ball of light burst from tessaiga when the raw purple power collided with it.

When Kagome could see again, Sesshomaru was back in front of her in a protective stance. In place of the hanyou was an empty, smoking crater with no sign of Inuyasha. "Father has yet again interfered," Sesshomaru stated unhappily as he straightened to his full height and sheathed his sword. Kagome sighed at the situation finally being over.

A clearing of a female voice caught her attention as she looked over to see Sango standing close by. "Lady Kagome, we would like to apologize for failing to notice how Inuyasha treated you," Sango said with an ashamed look on her face and tears in her eyes. "Please accept our sincerest apology on this matter," Miroku added with a bow, "we were blind to his mistreatment but that was no excuse." Shippo hopped into her arms and hugged her. "We're sorry aunt Kagome," Shippo said. Kirara also meowed an apology and Kagome smiled.

"I forgive you, all of you, I would have told you but I didn't want to taint your feelings with my problems. I get why you didn't see what was happening because you have your own lives and it's not something people like to focus on. I am happy that you fully understand now," Kagome said with a smile. The small family bowed, then hugged Kagome.

"What will you do now?" Kagome asked her friends. Miroku and Sango shared a glance then turned back to her. "I believe we will return to Sango's village and repair it. We would like to bring life back to the slayer village," Miroku said happily.

Kagome chatted with her friends for a while until Sesshomaru noticed her wobbly state and suggested the small family come visit them at his home another time. Kagome bid them goodbye as she watched them fly away.

The miko sighed happily. She was glad to have patched things up with her friends and that they now understood her decision to leave her old group. Kagome felt a pair of strong arms circle around her from behind. "Are you ready to return to our home koi?" Sesshomaru asked huskily in her ear. Kagome shivered then relaxed into her love. "Hmm home," Kagome mumbled and allowed Sesshomaru to sweep her into his arms. They flew back to the western shiro through the starry night. Kagome drifted into a peaceful sleep almost as soon as they left the ground.
