Chapter 28
Six months have passed since Kagome and Sesshomaru returned home from their exciting wedding adventure. It was a cool late spring evening that found the mated pair out in the practice fields training Kagome in mastering her new sword.
The miko jumped in order to dodge an attack and swung her blade, sending a dozen adamant shards at her mate. Kagome had basically mastered tessaiga at this point. Not only did she know each attack and how to perform them perfectly, she could also choose the size and strength of said attacks. When Sesshomaru dodged the diamond barrage he sent a wave of lightning with his own sword in retaliation. Kagome barely dodged but didn't land right and ended up hitting the ground hard, rolling.
Sesshomaru was at his mate's side instantly. "I'm fine." Kagome breathed hard, frustrated for not sticking the landing. "We will stop for today." Sesshomaru said as he helped Kagome to stand. "No! We called it early yesterday, after only five hours! It's only been three today!" Kagome argued. "You are tired. We are finished for today." Sesshomaru said finally. Kagome huffed, she really was tired. "Fine, come bathe with me?" She asked sweetly. "Hn." Her mate said as they began walking back to the shiro.
Upon entering from a side entrance Kagome and Sesshomaru were stopped when Taiyo waved them down. "Ah, Lord Sesshomaru, I've been looking for you. I have a report I must speak with you about." Kagome stepped aside and said, "I'll just go ahead and get a head start." Taiyo bowed, "good evening milady." Kagome nodded and smiled then continued down the corridor towards her room.
"MILADY!" Jaken squawked loudly as he came waddling down a hall adjacent to her. Kagome turned quickly to answer him when she became dizzy and stumbled backward into a shelf knocking a large vase to the floor. Kagome gasped when millions of shards of glass flew in every direction on the stone floor. "You clumsy wretch!" Hibiki yelled as he came upon their intersection from a third hallway. "Insolent servant! You will not speak of Lord Sesshomaru's mate as such!" Jaken yelled. Hibiki kicked the toad demon, making him hit the stone wall with a sickening smack. "Hey!" Kagome yelled. "Don't kick him, he did nothing wrong. I was the one that broke the vase." The miko said as she ran to the aid of the small creature.
"What is the meaning of this?" Sesshomaru's voice boomed into the now silent hall. "Your human just shattered a four thousand year old relic of our people!" The servant Hibiki fumed. Jaken sat up with the help of the miko. "Milord if I may, it was an accident."The toad defended.
"I didn't see the vase and,"- Kagome said but was interrupted. "The human has no respect for her betters."- Sesshomaru halted his words, grabbing the servant's throat. "You dare interrupt your Lady." The angry Lord growled while he squeezed the wheezing dog demon's neck.
Kagome rushed to her mate. "Please my Lord I'm sure he didn't mean too, he's just upset about the broken family heirloom." The young onna reasoned. Sesshomaru released the dog, letting him fall in a heap to the floor. "Clean this up." He ordered. "Come." The daiyoukai said to his mate. Kagome scooped up a protesting Jaken and followed her mate.
"Please milady put down this lowly servant, I am not worthy to be carried." The toad demon squeaked. Kagome placed him down and summoned her healing powers to her hand. "Fine I won't take you to your quarters but I am going to heal you." Kagome said, then quickly mended his small broken rib. "T-Thank you milady." Jaken said surprised the miko would even think of healing him. "Maybe she is not so bad." The toad thought. Kagome stood and smiled. "It's no trouble." Kagome said tiredly. That was a lot of excitement when she only wanted a bath.
When Jaken began to cry and scream at her feet, thanking her profusely, Sesshomaru ordered him away before he broke more of his bones. "Come." Sesshomaru said once more as they continued to their room to bathe.
Inside the soothing heated water Kagome lay against her mate's chest in his lap while he rubbed circles into her back. Kagome sighed. "I love you mate." She said as she nuzzled deeper into his chest.
Sesshomaru rose with his now sleeping mate and waded out of the water. Instead of trying to towel them both dry and waking his mate, the lord called upon his yuki, surrounded them and heated it to evaporate all of the water. Both completely dry, the demon lord silently walked into his room and placed her softly onto the furs. Kagome never woke up, only wrapped her arms around his moko moko that slithered around its mate. Sesshomaru allowed a smile to grace his features as he looked at the woman he loved, then turned and sat at his desk to get some work done.
Kagome woke the next morning feeling refreshed and very hungry. "Good morning milady." Ami said as she walked into her room. "Morning Ami." Kagome yawned, and stretched. "Sesshomaru Sama give's his regards. He had an important last minute meeting to attend and said he couldn't make your morning training session but general Taiyo will be waiting in the dojo instead." The fox demoness explained as she picked out Kagome's training kimono for the day. Kagome nodded, feeling extra sad she wouldn't see her mate this morning. "I think the cook has prepared your favorite miso to break your fast." Ami said, noting her friend's sadness. Kagome launched out of bed and hurriedly dressed. "Let's go!" Kagome said happily. Ami laughed as the two exited the sleeping chambers and headed toward the dining hall.
When Kagome finished her breakfast with her favorite five year old and neko she bid her daughter well as she went off with her nanny to do her studies with Ashi hot on her heels. Kagome sighed, her tummy was happy, but she felt like something was missing. "Oh, I know." The miko said as she went to the kitchen. "Kento?" Kagome asked as she entered the busy cook room. "Yes milady?" The old bear demon answered when he came around a corner. "Would it be too much trouble to have fresh bread with our evening meal?" Kagome inquired kindly. "Of course Lady Kagome! I will personally start that for you right away." The cook said then bustled off happily to find ingredients he needed. Kagome thanked him then went back to the dining hall where Ami waited. "Shall we go to the dojo?" The fox servant asked. "Gladly." Kagome replied with a smile.
The young miko was warming up with some hand to hand combat with her general friend. Kagome dived out of the way so she wouldn't be tackled, breathing hard. "Alright I'd say we are warmed up enough." The fox demon said. Kagome rose to her full height and tried to catch her breath. "Okay let's begin then." The young lady said but instantly felt the room spin.
"Lady Kagome, are you well?" Taiyo asked when he saw Kagome sway. The general watched in horror as Kagome began to fall, unconscious. He dived to try and catch her when he was thrown backwards into a wall. Ami rushed forwards. "Brother what happened?" The fox demoness yelled as she reached them then tried to go to her Lady. "No!" Taiyo yelled. "A barrier protects her, go and get Lord Sesshomaru." He commanded. "Yes right away." The fox demoness said then ran off while Taiyo staired helplessly at his lady lying unconscious inside a green crackling barrier.
Sesshomaru sat boredly as he listened to two of his lesser lords argue about trading and how the other was being greedy with pricing. Sesshomaru stood when he felt his mate's maid approaching quickly, fear in her aura. Ami entered without knocking and was met with her Lord already looking at her. "Milord, it's milady she has collapsed and."- Ami wasn't able to finish before her Lord raced past her at lightning speed but not before he told her to get the healer.
Sesshomaru ran in fear for his mate while his beast screamed at him to go faster. Knowing she was supposed to be training with his general he went to the dojo where he found his mate and friend. "Milord! She just collapsed! I tried to get to her but this barrier formed around her and I cannot break it." His frantic friend told him. Sesshomaru relaxed a little seeing his mate unharmed and looking as though she just fainted. "Hn, this barrier, it formed after she was unconscious?" Sesshomaru asked as he examined the crackling green orb. "Yes milord." His general said. At that moment Ami arrived back with Genji, the healer in tow.
The Lord circled his mate who had not yet awakened while he assessed the barrier. It seemed familiar to him and smelled like he and his mate. Reaching out he decided he was going to test its power when the barrier pulsed around his hand then dissolved. The lord quickly bent and scooped up his mate. "Follow this one to his quarters." He directed at Ami and Genji. "Return to your duties." He said to his general, then raced off to his bedroom.
Setting down his precious cargo on their futon he looked to the healer who just arrived. "What happened?" Sesshomaru demanded. "If you will step out Lord Sesshomaru I will have a look but I do not want to risk your beast attacking." His healer said, noting his red eyes and not yet nearing his mate. "Very well," Sesshomaru said, barely containing his beast, then looked at Ami. "Retrieve this one as soon as you have answers." The young female fox nodded, "yes milord."
When the lord of the castle left the healer placed her hand over her Lady's forehead and stomach. The hawk demoness used her powers passed down in her family. She was skilled in the art of healing and realized quickly what the problem was. Genji smiled and moved her hands to her Lady's lower stomach. "It would seem we will have another young one running through the western halls soon, oh, Two!" The hawk demoness exclaimed. Ami jumped up and down excitedly and asked if their Lord could come back in. When the healer nodded Ami brought her lord into his room and allowed the healer to explain.
Sesshomaru was confused at the emotions in the room. "Is she well?" He asked as he took his mate's hand. Both demoness' smiled. "She is milord." Genji said. "She is with child. Twins." Sesshomaru's mask slipped as his eyes widened. "Milady will be just fine and so are the pups, she is just over exhausted. She shouldn't be training anymore during her pregnancy." The healer said. "I will make a tea to help restore some of her energy but be warned milord. Her levels are very low and it will be very dangerous to all three lives if this happens again. She is weakened for some reason. My tea will help some but she needs to be careful from now until birth." The healer said, then left the room. Ami bowed saying she would be near if she was needed then left as well.
Sesshomaru sat down next to his mate then gently pulled her into his lap and placed his hand on her belly. He made an audible gasp at what he felt. Two small auras reached out to him when he made contact with them. He could feel them. His pups. He knew right away what they were and smiled. Kagome would be pleased. He held his mate for nearly an hour until she began to stir. "Sess?" She asked, confused. "I am here mate. You collapsed in exhaustion during your training." He explained. "What? But why?" Kagome inquired, now very confused as she sat up in her mate's lap.
"Because you are with child. Twins." He replied, allowing another smile to appear on his face. Kagome gasped and immediately grabbed at her stomach. "Really? I'm…I'm pregnant?" She asked as tears spilled down her cheeks that seemed to split with her big smile. When her mate nodded she launched herself into him giving him a hug. "A pup oh my Kami, two pups! Oh Sess!" She said excitedly. Leaning back quickly she said, "oh no, are they okay? Did I hurt them?" Kagome asked worriedly. "You are all well. Would you like to know the sex?" He asked, when she nodded he told her they will be having boys. Kagome cried and cried while holding her stomach. "My boys." She kept saying.
"When you collapsed, Taiyo tried to get to you but he was stopped by a barrier." Sesshomaru informed his mate. "How is that possible? I was unconscious. How could I have done that?" Kagome asked, bewildered. "I believe it was the pups. The barrier was green, not the color of mine nor your aura. It also smelled of both our scents." He explained. "My boys are so strong already. They must get it from their father." Kagome said as she smiled at her mate. "Their mother is equally strong. Our pups will be formidable." Sesshomaru said proudly as he placed his hand next to Kagome's on her stomach. After an hour of talking Kagome fell asleep on her mate, most likely from all the excitement.
Later that evening, Kagome walked with Sesshomaru to the dining hall. "I can't wait for the bread Kento is making. You know it all makes sense. I'm already having cravings." Kagome laughed. "I asked the cook to make bread this morning because I wanted it so bad." The young miko explained when her mate looked at her questioningly. "Hn." He replied. "Sess? After we eat, could you show me any scrolls you have on inu pregnancy?" The young mother inquired. When he nodded Kagome smiled and picked up the pace toward her bread that waited for her.
It's been almost a week since Kagome found out she was pupped and Sesshomaru was driving her crazy. Already he was acting like she was made of glass, he always made sure someone was with her at all times and she wasn't allowed to do anything for herself. She was losing her mind.
"I just want to go for a walk in the garden." Kagome argued. "I've eaten breakfast, I slept well and I feel fine!" The miko was trying to convince her mate to allow her a little exercise outside in the sun. "No. I will not repeat myself again," he said. Kagome stomped her foot. "You are insufferable." She yelled then stormed out of the room.
Irritated and upset, Kagome paced in her quarters. "I can't believe him. It's not like I'm going to melt or something." She said aloud. "I just can't even be around him right now!" Kagome stomped to her pouches and pulled out her armored Kimono and got dressed. "I'm going to see Sango, I'll be fine. I can take care of myself. I'll be extra cautious." Kagome thought to herself, she had never been so mad. When she was ready she wrote a note where she would be on her mates desk in their room then went to the balcony. She gathered her reiki and formed it into a cloud like Sesshomaru then sat down on it. Taking to the sky, she flew off in the direction of her friend, making sure to hide her aura and scent.
Kagome lifted her face to the sun and took in all the vitamin D she could get. She loved being outside and missed it terribly this past week. Sango's village appeared over the horizon, making the miko smile widely. Landing outside the gate, she waited to be invited in.
"Lady Kagome, what a wonderful surprise." A guard from the gate said. "Hello, I have come to check on Sango." The miko said. "Of course, I will escort you to her." Spoke the guard. Kagome nodded, excited to see her friend and looking forward to sharing her news. When she arrived at her friends hut she knocked and waited to be invited in. "Kagome!" Sango yelled happily when she opened the door. Reaching to hug her friend, Sango's large bump got in the way and the two giggled madly. "My look at you!" Kagome smiled and held her friend at arm's length. "Yes she is getting very big." Sango said as she rubbed her belly lovingly. "Let's get inside and I'll check you two over." Kagome said helping her friend back up the two steps it took to go back in the house.
Sango laid on her futon while Kagome held two glowing hands over her large belly. "She is growing well Sango. Her lungs are perfect and she has a very healthy heartbeat. I would say you're about eight months now." Kagome said smiling. "How have you been feeling? Any problems?" She added. Sango shrugged. "I don't have any complaints really. I had morning sickness for a little while at the beginning but I have been doing well otherwise. I can't seem to get enough of the peaches you planted. Thank you so much for that by the way. Our village fared very well over the winter season." Sango continued to gush over everything they made and all the villagers traded goods as well. "I'm so glad!" Kagome said happily.
"So how have you been my deer friend?" Sango asked. "I have been very well, I actually have some news for you. Where are Miroku and Shippo?" Kagome asked. "Oh, they went to help Kaede yesterday with a few illnesses in the village. They should be back in a few days. What is your news?" The slayer asked. "I'm pupped. With twins!" Kagome yelled excitedly. "Oh Kagome, that's wonderful news!" Sango said. "We are both pregnant together, which makes me so happy! We are going to be mothers and our children will be so close in age!" Her friend said excitedly. "I know I am so happy!" Kagome said, then went on to explain how she's feeling and how she didn't have any morning sickness yet and then how her mate was handling things so irritatingly.
"It is the Inu way Kagome, they are very protective, especially when their mates are pupped." Sango explained, also adding that their beasts only wanted their mates safe and their pups healthy. Kagome was starting to feel bad about how she acted and began to cry. "It's ok Kagome, it's just your hormones. You should go back to him before he finds out though. He will probably be very worried." The slayer added. Kagome and Sango both suddenly felt a strong, angry aura headed in their direction. "Uh oh." Sango said. "Yeah, I better go meet him so he doesn't destroy the village." Kagome said with a nervous smile. The two hugged and wished each other well.
Kagome left the village and walked towards her mate. He was getting very close, she sent calming feelings through their connection, letting her mate know she was safe. A moment later a large white sphere appeared before her, then dissolved to reveal her Lord.
Sesshomaru sat at his desk reading scrolls; he didn't feel his mates anger anymore and thought she must have gone to sleep. A few hours later, the servant Ami burst into his study. Sesshomaru looked up abruptly, already knowing something was wrong. "Milord, milady has gone to the slayer village." The fox servant said frantically. "Taiyo is in charge in my absence." Sesshomaru said, then leapt from his window into the sky.
When Sesshomaru landed he glared at his mate. "Heh heh, Hi Sessho, I'm sure you're wondering why I'm here." The nervous miko said while fidgeting her fingers. Sesshomaru growled. "Do you have any idea what you could have done?" He seethed. Kagome burst into tears. She upset her mate. "I'm..I'm sorry I shouldn't have but..but I just wanted to get out and I overreacted and left alone because I wanted to get away. I just felt too smothered. I hate being cooped up and treated like I'm a porcelain doll." She sobbed. Sesshomaru sighed, he did not mean to upset her. The lord walked to his crying mate and held her. "And..and I'm getting fat! I already have a bump!" Kagome yelled, bawling harder now. "Hush." Sesshomaru soothed his wife. "You are not nor will you be fat. You are pupped. You carry our sons and that will make your stomach swell." He said, pulling her chin up to look him in the eyes. "And you will be beautiful, always." He finished, placing a kiss on her lips.
Kagome sniffed. "Thank you. I'm sorry I left like that. I won't do it again. But you can't keep treating me like I'm going to break." Sesshomaru looked into her eyes for a moment. "Hn. I will try to reform my actions." He said. Kagome hugged him. "I'm hungry." She said after a while. Sesshomaru chuckled then formed his yuki cloud and flew them back to his shiro to feed his mate.
Far into the northern lands in a cave in the mountains sat a dragon in his throne. "Well pet, things are not going as I wish." The Lord of the north said as he kicked the chains that held his grossly skinny, imprisoned demon making it jump and pull away as far as possible. Out of a dark corner came a shadow shaped like a person, that stopped near the demon lord. "Ah, my servant Tariaksuq. What do you bring me." The lord asked boredly. "The western lord's mate is with child." The shadow creature screeched as if its throat was raw. "Now that is good news." Spoke the dragon demon as a mirthless, malicious chuckle escaped him. "I will get my revenge now Sesshomaru." The dragon spoke wickedly.

Tariaksuq- (tar-E-ahk-sa) A creature of inuit mythology. A humanoid type of creature akin to shadows, invisibility and obscurity. They are much like humans, they have homes and have weapons and live. But you can't see them if you look at them, they are only seen as the shadow they cast. If a Tariaksuq's shadow is attacked then it can be killed otherwise it cannot die. Sometimes you can hear them walk, but otherwise they are silent.
I find these creatures really cool and wanted them in my story!
