Disclaimer- I didn't add this to the last chapter, oops, I don't own Avatar the Last Airbender. If I did it'd probably be a disaster to be honest.
Chapter 2"So what do we do now?" Sokka asked with curiosity in his voice. Aang moved his bagged from the chair to the desk, and sat down.
"I don't know." Aang replied, mostly to himself, "Get to know each other?"
"Hey, don't ask me you're the detective here." Sokka answered him, confidently, shrugging his shoulders. Aang just sat there a moment, clearly in thought then turned to Katara, who was scolding her brother.
"You have any ideas?"
Katara was caught off guard not even expecting to be acknowledged in the conversation, "Well, I mean, we don't know you and you don't know us, so it only makes sense." She said still surprised she was noticed. The boys nodded understanding.
"I'll start," Sokka replied a little hesitantly,"uhm we grew up, and still live, in the south side of town, my first girlfriend died when I was 15, our mom died when we were little around 8 or 9, and I know how to use a boomerang." he ended, looking at Aang who had a shocked expression on his face.
"Okay, let's add oversharing to the list." Aang said letting out a short lived breathy laugh, earning a giggle from Katara, and a confused look from Sokka.
"Oversharing?" He questioned.
"Yeah, maybe not mention the death of your girlfriend and mother to someone you've known for less than," he looked at the clock that sat on the wall of the station behind them, "45 minutes."
"What? He helps with the ladies." Aang was shocked at the words coming out of his mouth. Katara could see it and interrupted before it could turn into something more than a simple quarrel.
"Okay, let's just end the conversation before one of you takes it too far." Sokka snapped his glare to her, softening it once he saw her genuine concern.
"Alright.' He replied in a soft meekly voice. Aang was still visibly shocked, and didn't reply. Sokka simply nudged him, "Hey, pretty boy, snap out of it before you make her mad." he whispered genuinely scared for his new found buddy. Aang simply furrowed his eyebrows exiting his shocked state.
"Well guess it's my turn." Katara said, seeing Aang exit his state, and straighten up. He nodded with a smile, cueing her to continue, "Okay well, we grew up and live on the south side, as mentioned before, uhm I am a water bender, don't know where it came from, dead mother, and was cheated on with my first boyfriend, Jet, at 14 years of age." Katara finally ended earning another shocked look from Aang, which quickly turned to confusion.
"You both really suck at sharing simple information, I am going to be honest with you." Aang noted, earning a chuckle from the siblings.
Well, it's your turn," Sokka stated.
"Okay well," Aang began, "Grew up on the south side of Airberch, am an airbender, because we are sharing trauma, parents killed in front of me, and never had a girlfriend. Now that I say it out loud there was a reason for being the high school target practice." Aang ended. Both of the siblings stared at him, before they could ask any questions, Aang began again, "So back to the case." He reached down and opened the drawer of his desk, pulling out a manilla file, and held it in front of the siblings for the grabbing. Which Sokka took reluctantly. As they scanned the file Aang simply watched. He couldn't help but already feel so attached and vulnerable to them. He loved the feeling of finally getting to open up a little. Trust me, Aang loved other people, and he missed them whenever he decided to throw himself into work, feeling the shame and burden being the last of his family. He had no one, but now he had the possibility of someone. Aang couldn't help but smile at the siblings seeing their innocent curiosity.
"Why are you smiling like that?" Katara asked, knocking him out of his daze.
"O-oh, I was smiling?" Aang asked blushing from embarrassment. And there it went the possibility of friends. Sokka just groaned. While Katara giggled a bit.
"Oh will you two stop flirting?" Sokka asked, clearly uncomfortable.
"Oh, Sokka, just shut your mouth!" Katara raised her voice, just below a shout, and smacked his arm. Aang just sat there smiling again, forgetting what the case had been about until Sokka brought it back up.
"So, I think the first thing we need to do is go to the crime scene." Sokka quickly changed the subject rubbing, switching his glare from Katara to Aang, who was now returning to his doom and gloom remembering who was murdered. Clearly in distress, and on the verge of a full out breakdown, stood.
"Yep, we should probably head there now, do you guys have a car to drive, or want to go with me?" Aang questioned, half hoping they had their own car, and half hoping they would go with him.
"Uhm, yeah, we'll go with you." Sokka replied with little unneeded enthusiasm, he was oddly nervous.
"You okay," Aang asked,"you're looking a little pale."
"Well, uhm I've never seen a dead body…"
"You're good, they moved the body yesterday, to the morgue." Aang said in a meekly voice feeling saddened at the reminder. He cleared his throat from the emotion that built up within it, and put on a weak smile "We should head out before rush hour at 9 o'clock." Aang led the two siblings out to the side of the road in which his car was parked.
"So, one of you sitting up front-?" Aang was interrupted by a shouting Sokka.
"I CALL SHOTGUN!" He called.
"Oh, Sokka shut up!" Katara said slapping her brother on his bicep. Aang watched the interaction with curiosity in his eyes. He never had siblings, the closest thing he had were just some other boys around the neighborhood. Sokka went around into the street and opened the passenger door to sit down. Aang opened the door for Katara, then himself. Once everyone was settled into the car, Aang overlooked the address, and started the car. They were on the way to Maison du feu, or the House of Fire as it's called amongst the commoners.
