Chapter 12

'Meet The Twins'

It had been going on three days that Lady Hina had gone into labor and every hour that passed worried Kagome even more the current breathing techniques of the Koorime were not helping the lady empress nor were odd way Rui had the lady Hina sit. Hell this was not a formal setting for a seiza. Kagome told Toran that she would have to do a cesarean section where she would have to basically cut the stomach and uterus walls and pull the babies out then sew Lady Hina.

But Rui declined that answer making it much harder for Kagome to help Lady Hina keep focused and calm. This, This screaming was not helping. Kagome gave Toran and Rui the exact way to help Lady Hina breath. Rui had been coaching the Empress on how to breath with a big sigh when the contraction begins. Then release all the tension as she breaths out. This was to help Lady Hina focus her attention, slowly inhale through her nose then exhale out her mouth slowly creating a sigh. Kagome had been trying everything Kaede taught her and then some.

Kagome couldn't help but get the feeling fate was stepping in once again. Kagome feared Hina or the babies wouldn't last much longer and she had yet to tell Toran or Rui her thoughts. Wiping the blood from between Lady Hina's legs Kagome heard one of Lady Empress's outbursts saying that if Rui was a good friend she wouldn't make her sit seiza when all Hina wanted was to lay down and have Rui rub her back like a good friend should. Kagome smiled a small smile they were friends after all. That was good.

"AARRRRGGH..." Lady Hina screamed out saying how it hurts and how much longer. Kagome pulled Toran to the side where Rui saw the concern on the miko's face. She didn't like what the miko was going to do, she already forbade her from doing so two days ago.

"Toran, she doesn't have much time. Hell the babies don't have much time. Hina's birthing canal is just to small for the babies to come out." Kagome waited for the impact of what she was saying to hit Toran.

"There's got to be a way!" Kagome nodded and she told Toran what needed to be done once again. This time Toran gave a short nod, her face going grim as she faced Rui whom wore a scowl on her face. Kagome knew this was not going to be pretty.

Hell it was about time Toran stepped up and put a stop to Rui's nonsense she could have had those babies out days ago, but the Koorime had their traditions just like everyone else which made Kagome's work harder. Now she watched as Toran put Rui in her place. The argument had not lasted long with Toran's threat hanging in the air should Rui get in the miko's way of saving those babies and Lady Hina lives. Kagome smiled on the inside. Hell it took Toran a few minutes to cool down while she tried to process what Kagome wanted to do and how it would work.

Kagome explained once again to Toran and Rui on how she was going to save those babies and the lady empress. Kagome flat out stated she would heal the lady empress as much as she could before doing a cesarean section to pull the babies out and sew the wound so that the lady empress didn't bleed out. However, Rui's question startled Kagome. Kagome told them she didn't know but she would try for all she was worth not to let that fate happen. Kagome took out her dagger and one of her twin sai giving them to Toran to heat up to rid the bacteria then to cool the dagger while she kept the sai hot to cauterize the wound she would make so she could sew once the babies and placenta were out.

Rui had never heard of this operation called C-section before even the panther had not heard such a thing yet she trusted the miko to make incisions into the abdomen and uterus so the miko could deliver Hina's offspring due to the complications of a small birthing canal, bleeding out, something the miko said was called hemorrhaging and if she could not stop it Hina would die. There was no way she'd let Hina die, she couldn't Hina was her childhood friend. With Empress Hina is having more than one of those complications along with having to wait days before Rui gave in due to Toran's threats dug her head out of her ass looking to the miko who basically told her.

"You understand, if I don't do this she will die and so will those babies." Rui understood her, but that means she didn't have to like it. She watched the miko trying different ways to make the labor easy on Hina however, nothing they've tried seemed to work not even their own Koorime traditions. Giving an exasperated sigh Toran asked what needed to be done and with a heavy heart Kagome told her.

"Empress Hina, please... This is very important. You've already lost too much blood. I'm going to use my healing power to heal you as much as I can so I can help you deliver those babies to you." The sweat soaked and pained cry had Kagome turning to Toran and Rui.

"Yaaaaaeeess..." The lady empress shouted to Kagome. Nodding her head Kagome told Toran and Rui to stand back she didn't want to accidentally purify anyone.

With one hand below the stomach and another on Hina's right side Kagome concentrated on her healing power bringing it forth into her hands that glowed a pale pink setting her hands on the pelvic area and one hand going from left to right Kagome concentrated allowing her to see what her power saw. The reproductive organs were much the same as any human yet vastly different the organs were tougher, the ovaries were larger, black blood flowed through them having a higher quality than the human blood. Kagome healed much of the tears she could find. She only hoped they wouldn't reopen.

Wiping the sweat from her brows and eyes. Kagome called Toran to bring her dagger. It was time. "I've healed you as much as I could. My powers can only do so much Empress Hina and it has given us a fighting chance to rescue those babies. Rui, I need you to keep her calm, help her with the breathing I taught you. Toran be ready with wet and dry cloths." Looking over on the table to make sure she had her sewing needle and thread already threaded and long enough to sew the C-Section pulling the table closer Kagome took the dagger.

Making the abdominal incision first she then felt for the uterus cutting along evenly like she did the abdominal. Dropping the dagger Kagome slowly reached in pulling a baby from the stomach handing it to Toran, then reached in up into Hina's stomach until both of Kagome's arms were inside her feeling for the second baby. Figures, right below the ribs. Feeling around to make sure Kagome didn't pull on anything she grasped the baby pulling her out of her mother's stomach. Toran took the babe set her to the side when Kagome went inside and took out the placenta placing it into a bowl.

Calling for wet and dry cloths to wipe her hands and the empress from the delivery. Without wasting time Kagome began sewing the empress while telling Toran to cut the umbilical cords and tie them off then to clean the babies airways so they could breath. The look Toran gave Kagome was priceless. Kagome didn't have time to laugh as she finished sewing and tied the abdominal closed. Using her healing touch once more Kagome healed what she could giving Hina time for her own body to start healing. Toran held the male baby upside down while Rui took the female doing the same.

Once the airways and mouths were clean of mucus and fluid the babies cried long and hard as all babies do once free from their home for however long the gestation cycle lasted. The cries of newborns had their mother reaching for them wanting to hold them and count their fingers and toes. Wiping her hand free from the blood Kagome wiped the tears from her eyes. This was a beautiful sight and she was happy that she was able to save them. Rui and Toran congratulated Hina for having her little family saying how cute they were but when Rui brought up that the babies looked nothing alike one male, with stubbed black hair with a tiny white patch in the middle of his forehead and the girl lots of short blue hair who looked like her mother.

Kagome explained that their were at least seven types of twins. When she finished Toran nodded seemingly to understand while Rui had a hard time trying to imagine paternal and fraternal but what was half-Identical and mirror Image. Kagome laughed in good nature hours passed. Lady Hina fed her fraternal twins twice having Rui and Toran put them in a makeshift bassinet while Rui fed and gave Hina water to replenish after giving birth. It was only a few hours later dawn of the fourth day rose Rui and Toran placed the twins on each of Hina's breast to feed when she could barely hold one of the twins in place.

Taking a closer look Toran noticed how pale Hina had looked. Without a second glance she looked to the twins avoiding their mothers nipples. They would not feed, something was wrong. Pulling the babe away Toran ordered Rui to do the same to the female. Toran woke Kagome with fright. Before Kagome could fall to the floor from the bench she laid on to sleep Toran grabbed her pulling her to stand. Rui was asking Hina if she were alright. Hina started to cough up blood. Looking at Empress Hina. Kagome didn't like her pale, sweaty clammy completion.

Taking out her thermometer from her first aid kit, at this point Kagome didn't care if they saw her futuristic items Hina's health was more important. She needed to take Lady Hina's vitals and to see how high or low the empress's temperature should be. Rui needed to come up with at least the temperature part so Kagome would know what was the normal for their kind. Kagome began using her healing powers to see what was going on inside Hina; she prayed that she could save the new mother. It had to have been at least three hours of her trying to heal what was too damaged from what Kagome could not tell, but it didn't look good.

Pulling Toran away while Rui sat next to Hina helping her hold the male child they couldn't help but over hear Empress Hina's words. "Oh my darling. You look so much like your father. If he were still alive." Hina coughed up more blood Rui wiped her mouth allowing her to continue speaking to her son. "Your name will be flying shadow, my darling little Hiei your father Kokuen (Black Fire) would have loved to have been here but he died protecting us. Just grow up strong and protect your sister." Kissing him on the head Hina trailed her finger around the tiny tuft of hair that stood out from his short dark locks with a loving smile. Rui brought over the female who looked like her mother with varying differences from other Koorime.

All Koorime had different facial features or lightened or darkened blue hair height was another varying feature some females were short other were just a tad taller a few were taller by a head. Placing the female babe into her mothers' arms Hina looked her daughter over one last time coming up with a name. "You precious daughter of mine, your name will be snow of emotions, my darling Yukina how much you look like me. Your father would have been so proud. Just know he died saving us my little snow of emotions. He loved us my babies, Kokuen loved us so so much." Like she did with her son Hina kissed her daughter on the forehead her fingers parting the short tuft of blue hair much like her own to the side smiling as it went back in place.

A cough racked from Hina's lungs Rui pulled the babe away just in time as Hina doubled over her hacking caused more blood to pool from her mouth. Kagome was at her side soon as Rui moved away with the babe. Holding a cloth to Hina's mouth, Kagome patted softly ensuring she got all the traces of blood from the lady empress's mouth. When she tried to stand Hina pulled her so close their foreheads were touching. This didn't go unnoticed by Rui or Toran who walked on either side of the futon Hina laid on.

"Forgive me Lady Kagome, I don't have much time." Kagome looked at her and tears were falling from both of their eyes. "Please, I'm not much for this world. I've known since my mate had died." Kagome told her to save her breath to let her try and heal her one more time. Hina knew there was nothing else to be done to save her.

"No, you will need to save your energy La...dy" Cough, cough cough. Wiping her mouth once more Kagome begged and pleaded with her but Hina told her no once again. "Please Kagome-Sama, Rei to karada wa futatabi ketsugoo shimasu." Kagome blinked truly not hearing the words spoken to her. If she'd remembered what Yanagi had told her then she wouldn't be so shocked when Kagome does find out. Tears fell in streams down her cheeks. There was nothing that she wanted from this loving mother. Except for her to live, which she knew was almost impossible. But one could only hope for a miracle.

"There is nothing I want more than for you to live Lady Empress." The empress shook her head in the negative.

Hina asked that Kagome place her forehead to hers. Nodding her head Kagome did as told even though she could hear a faint chant of another language she had never heard before the empress placed her hand on her heart and her other hand onto Kagome's chest where her heart lie. The chant was complete before Kagome could pull away the lady empress spoke the words once again. Rei to karada wa futatabi ketsugoo shimasu then darkness enveloped Kagome. Kagome was scared whatever the empress chanted and said before she passed out brought her to this place it felt familiar.

"It should feel familiar Kagome-Sama we are once again in the souls plateau. Kagome turned seeing the females from before and one that she couldn't it stayed in the shadows it glowed then stepped forward.

"Oh, my gosh... No way, no way how are you hear Lady Empress?" Bowing to Kagome she began to speak.

"Could you see me before?" Kagome shook her head.

"No, I had no idea you were even here. Even before this I saw the shadow but I couldn't make nothing of it until now." The lady empress nodded in understanding walking forward she clasped Kagome's hands in hers.

"That is due to the fact that I was living... My soul returned to me once you entered this era for I could not live without it." Okay, that made a lot of sense and if Kagome's memory was correct the one that was like a shadow was the lady empress all along.

"Wow what a trip. If I didn't know my own soul, I'd say I was going crazy. So how did you bring me to the souls plateau?" It was an honest question that she wanted answers too. She didn't need to keep finding her self here without her permission and wanted a way to keep from having others forcing her here.

"I am a part of your soul always have been; a piece of me remained so that you would not hurt from the loss when the majority returned to me." Oh that did make a lot of sense.

"Okay I get that. But why are all of you here as well?" The spirits looked to one another when Lady Hina spoke.

"Kagome there are a few things that will happen once you return to the living world." Kagome sighed she knew it was too good to be true never could she just rescue and be free. Like the Kami would let such a thing happen, no they liked the drama that came with it.

"Alright what might that be?" The Lady Hina looked up at her.

"Now that I am with you, your body will produce milk." Lady Hina waited for the outburst but it never came. Oh Kagome knew it was bad, even hearing the words didn't make it sound as bad as it actually was. How and Why does these kind of things always happen to her. For crying out loud. Bet the Kami are entertained by watching and hearing the conversation.

"And?" Kagome questioned for more knowing there was more that had not been told.

"You will have to gather your belongings and our son..." Kagome interrupted at that point.

"Woe, woe right there. What do you mean by 'OUR' son? Don't you mean your son Lady Empress." Not wanting to upset the young female Hina tried to tell Kagome but having Midoriko step in would make this conversation easier for the two.

"Kagome, I'm sure you are over whelmed right now. Please take to heart this was meant to be. Even I cannot say what is to happen only that Lady Hina is now apart of you which gives you the right to be mother to her son as if he was yours." Kagome tried to cut in but Midoriko wouldn't let her.

"Please understand without you Hiei will perish. You are his mother now unless you wish him to per..." Kagome stopped Midoriko right there.

"Oh no you don't, don't ever say something like that. I never wish harm to a baby let alone anyone. I just want you to be straight with me. I'm tired of all the secrets, and the things not yet to be revealed. That's what I dislike. I take my duty seriously and I know this is not a duty but something I personally must come to terms with. Which is okay really. I know time is short so what am I supposed to do now? Just tell me the truth. That's all I ask." Everyone gathered around Kagome and Hina.

"Very well Kagome." Midoriko spoke informing Kagome of the thing that her body would go through to produce milk. How her senses and eyesight would be more enhanced. Her stamina and strength would increase however with everything she would remain the same Kagome everyone knew and loved.

Midoriko told Kagome everything that was going on in the room as she spoke, what she had to do quickly now that Lady Hina had passed on. The reasons why and how to leave Koorime Island without being seen. To say Kagome wanted to pull out her hair was once thing but to literally pass out from fright seemed even more scary.

'Boy this keeps getting more complicated every time she turns around.'

"How much time would I have to get everything including the baby before jumping out the window." It was a reasonable question.

"Two minutes at most." The look Kagome gave said it all. Eyes wide, mouth open, hands in the air then all at once Kagome settled. She was determined to fight for her son now.

"Lady Hina, I am so sorry this had to happen, I really am. If it helps I'm glad your with me. It will make this transition easier for me. For us." Pulling Kagome into a hug Lady Hina wished her farewell. All the souls wrapped around Kagome giving her the confidence and strength she needed to get away from Koorime Island. Before Kagome knew it she was blinking her eyes open watching the commotion before jumping into action.

"Kagome... What happened?" Toran questioned as she tried to keep the barrier up.

"Long story short. Lady Hina left her son Hiei in my care to raise as my son. I know a lot to take in, I don't have much time can you hand me my backpack and sword." Not wasting time Toran did as asked helping put the monstrous thing on her shoulders allowing Kagome to strap her sword to her waist double checking if she had everything then remembered to cloak herself she didn't want anyone or anything to scent or know that she was even here or the babe.

Spying a few baby items Kagome had Toran put them in her backpack and tie the ends so nothing would fall out. Looking around Kagome picked up the baby boy wrapping him in another blanket she made as a sling under her furs so that the babe would not fall out while she was jumping or running. She would make sure he stayed safe. Seeing the baby female Yukina crying Kagome whispered to her then kissed her on the forehead whispering a protective barrier around the babe just as Toran screamed for her to get out of there that the barrier was coming down. Rui told her to take care of the babe and to be well.

Not even two seconds later Kagome told Toran farewell and that they'd meet again someday and to keep any guards from figuring out she had been there. A simple spell erased any trace of her and Hiei having been there. Kagome told Toran to say that spell was used by the father to make everyone believe the baby was a boy that the fire yokai wanted the Empress to die by her own guards. Toran agreed before casting a reveal spell once Kagome jumped from the towers window she was allowing herself to free fall just as she felt the barrier come down and the doors thrown open. Fighting began. Kagome chanted allowing herself to slow her speed down instead of becoming road splat she landed on the rocky surface of the island as if she just jumped into the air. Kagome heard the battle in the tower the screams and war cries carried far. She prayed to the Kami that Toran, Rui and Yukina remain safe.

Kagome began to run then jumping over large glaciers and cliffs making her way down Koorime Island. Hearing Hiei cry startled Kagome mid jump. She almost, no she did forget he was there until he cried. This was something she was going to have to get used to so it would be wise to man up now. Her little pep talk to herself actually helped that is until she felt a burning pain in her chest. Boy did that hurt unlike anything she ever felt before. The burning sensation remained a dull throb until she moved her arms or bent a certain way. Oh this wasn't good, not now, oh Kami.

"Just laugh it up already... Geesh, really wonderful timing couldn't wait until I was off this dang island." Kagome pouted her chest hurt something awful. She couldn't stop, she had to get off this island she knew there was a possibility the guards were looking for someone or something, but lucky for her Kagome got out of there just in time. She just hoped they didn't have anyone spying on them while she was there that would be so bad her thoughts were running away with her again.

"Aha... That's where we came up from." Kagome made it to the point where she and Toran landed on the island.

'Now all we have to do is..." Kagome was cut off hearing the soft gravely guttural growl. Looking to where it came from she gasped seeing the mother frost beast dead splinted over a jagged rock two of the three cubs dead on either side one still alive but barely. She couldn't understand why someone would kill these beautiful creatures like this.

Not wasting any time Kagome scooped up the bleeding cub holding it carefully as she called a barrier in place so that she could heal the little beast. About fifteen minutes later Kagome felt satisfaction when she heard the little growl. What the? That was not the frost beast that growled, it was her son Hiei. Kagome smiled thinking 'Jealous already'. Looking at the little beast it whined nudging her glove for food. It seemed both babes were hungry making it known. Kagome couldn't do anything but smile. Taking a running leap she began her decent one cliff at a time. Free falling for the most of it wanting to be undetected in case something happened to see falling glaciers or broken ice slides. Jumping onto an outstretched cliff Kagome took a breather.

She was half way down. It seemed free falling was a lot faster and trying to jump or slide. Taking the time to listen for anything that should be near, Kagome hummed in approval. All was well. Checking on both the babes seeing them both snuggle together Kagome placed the blanket over them then the fur ensuring they stayed warm. Taking a drink from her water skin she tied it back onto the cord making her way to the edge Kagome looked down. Maybe she shouldn't have done that. The feeling left her lightheaded. Taking a moment Kagome breathed in then out several times until she felt better.

'Okay I can do this.' Taking a running jump Kagome looked as if she was running across air making sure she was out far enough to free fall. Hands out wide, legs bent at the knees Kagome enjoyed the sensation of falling. She dared not try any tricks with the precious cargo she carried. Thinking about it now, Kagome couldn't say she was unhappy the only thing that made her sad was that she missed Shippo. He was her first son, one she loved and missed dearly. Blinking her moist eyes Kagome spied the land coming up quick she began to straighten out her body until she was upright.

Kagome called on her ice slide she landed on it making sure to slide about every ten feet before another was made allowing the other to drop before sliding down the new one. It repeated until she was at least thirty feet from the ground. Then jumped from the last ice slide hoping to make it a good distance before she had to keep a run and jump pace so that she could get back to Tenbun Oka within a few days rather than month and a half it took for training while making their way to Koorime Island, she had to speak with Yanagi.

Wow, that took forever... I got it done though. I may have errors I tried catching them as I read it over correcting what I could find. So what do you think so far? No one's been leaving reviews and I feel slighted. Ouch. Is anyone reading this? Anyways leave a review even if it is three words or more, it does wonders for the soul.

Japanese Meanings:

Koorime Island – The land of ice and snow in Makai (Demon World, Yu Yu Hakusho) where Hiei and Yukina were born. Hence becoming the Forbidden One/Child due to being the only male born or stepped foot where only ice maidens live.

Koorime – Ice Maidens that live on Koorime Island (Yu Yu Hakusho)

Hiei – Flying Shadow

Yukina – Snow of Emotions (also Snow Vegetables) I thought Snow of Emotions was a better name than snow vegetables... lol

Rui – Kind (The name is pronounced Ree.)

Mai – Dance, sheet, robe, linen popular female name in Japan

Jin – has many meaning depending on the use of the word or name. I chose benevolence
