Ruby tipped herself backward using her heel before swinging her scythe in a crescent shape. The blade connected with a bear-like grimm which decapitated it in one swift motion. As the head of the grimm fell to the ground and dissolved itself, Ruby compacted her scythe and rested herself amidst the carnage.
Pouting, Ruby wondered whether or not anyone would come to where she currently were.
Maybe she was being too flashy again, which made the others avoid her area.
She sighed, closing her eyes and her expectations.
However, when she opened her eyes, her demure gray met with his brilliant blue.
"Jaune!" Ruby said as she leapt from a lone boulder and landed in-front of him. "Took you long enough, pukey-face."
"I do not consent with that nickname."
Ruby chuckled, her hand covering her mouth, before she looked closer at Jaune. "You know, might be just me, but you're actually pretty tall."
"My mama used to tell me I got some bad posture."
Instantly, as if a switch was flickered, the atmosphere turned silent.
Jaune, noticing the change, walked past Ruby and raised his shield in position. "Small talk has to wait, something's coming."
Ruby swung her scythe before stamping the blade into the ground. From the slight vibration, she knew that it would be a hard foe to beat. "And it's a big one."
From the forest, a gigantic bear grimm appeared.
Taking the first step forward, Ruby picked up her scythe and held it blade to the side. "Here's to teamwork, Jaune!"
Jaune drew his blade and readied himself for an overhead swing. "I'll try to keep up."
In what seemed like a split second, Ruby disappeared as if she was scattered by a sudden gust of wind.
This was Jaune's chance to join into the fray and ran toward the gigantic bear.
The bear roared, which didn't deter Jaune's charge, and striked first with a long swipe forward from its sharp right claw.
Anticipating that first strike, Jaune pulled his shield back before repelling the claw from under the attack.
It didn't take much force to deflect its claw, all it took was the right split-second to read the incoming slash.
Now that the bear was open for an attack, Ruby suddenly appeared from under the bear's nose and launched herself upward. The steel of her scythe met against flesh made of mysteries as it traced a line which bisected the bear's arm clean off.
Appearing high above the bear, she outstretched her scythe at an unreachable height before spinning down with her scythe toward the ground.
The bear realized what was about to happen, and so did Jaune.
Before the bear could skewer Ruby by extending its left claw at where she was descending, Jaune had a perfect countermeasure for it.
Jaune slid forward, just out of the bear's field of vision, and cleaved through the bear's leg with the sharpness of his sword.
The previous act of reaching toward Ruby had become a burden for the gigantic grimm. Now without proper balance, the bear toppled backward. Not a moment later, coming from a dot in the distance, a glint in the sky meant the end for the bear.
That split-second shine from above brutally gouged itself against the bear's torso before slashing through mercilessly toward its underside.
As miasma spluttered out from the mutilated grimm, Ruby stuck her landing before she disappeared once more. Dodging the spluttering black rain threatening to stain her coat, Ruby appeared beside Jaune as if she was there all along.
As the giant grimm disappeared into nothingness in the air, Jaune and Ruby shared a high five.
Ruby smiled, excited at the sight of her first giant killing. "Not bad for our first combat together as team RJ!"
Jaune was trying to be as modest as possible, but even he couldn't contain his excitement. "Team Rogue? I like the sound of that."
Then Weiss appeared from the woodwork, completely missing all of the action.
