Chapter-1
Hell. That's what all this was. There was no other way Sakura could describe this horrible reality. All around her was just bodies and bodies, bent in every possible way, torn apart. And there she was just staring at it blankly. If anyone looked at her eyes now, they would thought that she was empty. Just another standing corpse in midst of all this madness and the sad thing was Sakura wouldn't even have tried to correct them because that was how she was feeling. Dead. Just... Nothing.
Her usually bright and expressive green eyes that held mirth hidden in them now just held sorrow and emptiness. She started walking with her shoulders slumped and looking for some salvation among all this. Her usually bright and beautiful choppy pink hair now covered in dirt and turned brown because of dried blood on them. Her usually calm and trained medical hands shaking because she was incapable of saving anyone who came in her way. Her usual bounce in step gone as she dragged her beaten and tired self forward on the ground where nothing was alive. Even the air was dead.
Is this how a war is? Is this how a war is won? This is how you lose a war, not win it. That was the only thought running through her mind. She kept asking that question as she passed by her dead comrades of Konoha 12. Some of them weren't even recognizable to her lest she hadn't looked carefully for them. She found Ino, her friend and rival, on the ground with her cyan blue eyes open and her mouth parted. Her torso had 4 long cuts that bled so much she was lying in her own pool of blood. Her beautiful long hair matted with dirt fell beneath her, soaked in her own blood. She would have hated to see herself like this. She hated it when her hair weren't presentable. Sakura thought to herself with a ghost of a smile on her face. When she turned her head to her right, she saw Sai lying on his stomach with his hand stretched towards Ino. She guessed that he must have been trying to reach her. Moving forward, she saw Hinata's crumped form against a tree with Kiba and Shino beside on the ground. Even Akamaru's white fur had turned red. How ironic.
The list went on endlessly. Some people she knew, some she knew just by appearance but it tore her apart to see this. She was dreading her each step because she had yet to find them.
She kept on walking for God knows how long until finally she found him. His normally spiked up greyish white hair now laid limp. His face covered with a blue mask, half visible. His figure was leaning against a rock that was created by a crater. As soon as Sakura saw him all thought left her and she ran like there was no tomorrow. Please please please... not you too Sensei. She kept on chanting as she pumped her already depleted chakra in her aching legs. She finally reached him and saw his sorry state.
His chest had a long slash along it which was still bleeding on his Jounin vest, his hands were burned, and blood flowed like tears from his right eye probably due to excessive use of his Sharingan. His chakra was practically nonexistent but on closer look Sakura saw a gentle rise and fall of his chest and that was all the indication she needed to start working on healing him.
She placed her trembling trained hands on his chest and released chakra that turned green which indicated that she had started her healing. She did not have a lot of chakra so it was painful to empty her reserves but she did not stop.
"Don't worry Kakashi Sensei, you will be alright now. I will save you no matter what! You can't leave me alone. Please!" She kept on rambling to him in hope that she would get a response which she did after some time.
He blearily opened his lone black eye that was usually crinkled showing his happiness. He could not focus properly but once he saw the reassuring pink haired person he sighed in relief. He was glad that she was safe. He couldn't save his comrades and he didn't know how he would have felt if he found out that he couldn't even protect his precious students from this hell.
Once he was conscious, he wheezed for air as he felt his punctured lung coming back to life. It was then when Sakura looked up and stopped her healing due to her dangerously low chakra reserves. Once she met his eyes, he gave her another one of his famous eye crinkles trying to convey his gratitude and relief. And it was at that moment when Sakura started to bawl her eyes out after everything she witnessed. She kept on screaming the name of the person who was in front of her lying half dead. Kakashi slowly raised his burned hand which started shaking because of his weak muscles and gently parted her head. Sakura gently looked up at him and saw that he was still trying to cheer her up despite all of what happened.
"You did well, Sakura. I'm... so relieved that... you are alright." He said raspily.
Sakura just nodded her head while her tears kept falling. She then again reached to heal him but Kakashi stopped her hand and gave a shake of head.
"But Sensei! You're not healed yet!" She screamed at him.
"I'll live Sakura. Save your chakra. we are the only ones here and we cannot act recklessly. We have to look for others and help them if we can. You are the only one left capable of healing others."
That was true. She had seen her medical team get blown away to smithereens along with Tsunade shishou. She started shaking again, remembering her shishou's last moments and her incapability to save her.
"Alright... I'll stop. We can search for others when you feel like getting up. You should build up your strength and rest."
"Yeah. Thank you Sakura."
She nodded and rested beside him and told her about what she saw. When she finished, he asked her.
"You didn't find those idiots yet? They must be bickering somewhere whether one of them killed Madara or not."
Sakura laughed at that and added
"Hmm you're right. They must be squabbling like the old days. Don't worry Sensei, we'll find them or better they will find us." She added positively but still feeling the same dread she was feeling before.
