Chapter #7

I should not have been surprised that Esme and Alice began sending me house listings and had a realtor call me within two days of our conversation.

I was sitting in my dad's living room, with my laptop looking at the listings while I smiled at Ty. She had a mess all over the living room, there were dolls, crayons, and a tea set that she was currently fake drinking from as she watched a princess movie. She is also dressed as a princess in a puffy dress and crown and make-up. I loved her imagination and how she loves to play and dance. Maybe I can find some dance classes for her nearby.

I turned back to the listings and was looking at a house near La Push that seemed perfect. It was two stories, it looked like a cabin with a sort of rustic look. It looked spacious which at first, I didn't want but with how huge Jake and his family were, I would need it, especially if they ever wanted to come and see Ty. The kitchen was gorgeous and huge, there was a huge backyard, and it even had a cute pond that I'm sure Ty would love. Upstairs had a master bedroom and three separate rooms, which was a bit excessive, but it seemed perfect. I was telling Alice I wanted to see this one when the doorbell rang.

Ty stood up and wanted to answer, when I stopped her, "Hey booger, you know better than that. You don't answer doors" I told her as I walked towards the front door.

"Mom, its grandpa Billy!" she whined, "I wanted to surprise him" she said in an annoyed voice. I smiled at her annoyance.

"How are you so sure its Billy?" I said as I opened the door and looked up to see Jake standing behind Billy.

"I just know" she said as she ran towards me and the open door.

She jumped on Billy and greeted him and then greeted Jake with a huge smile.

"Hi Billy, hi Jake, please come in." I tell them as I usher them into the house, I smile at Billy as Jake pushes him toward the living room, with Ty sitting on Billy's lap the whole time.

"Oh shoot, sorry we have a mess" I say as I walk into the living room and start moving toys to make more room for them.

Billy laughs "It looks like there was a princess explosion in here" he says as he tickles Ty.

As I move more things, Jake moves Billy into the living room and then sits on the couch and just stares at Ty.

He hasn't even looked at me, which hurts but mainly annoys me. We're adults and he's acting childish.

"I hope its ok we stopped by Bella, I guess we should have called first before coming" Billy said as I sat back down on the opposite couch to them. I moved my laptop and smiled at Billy.

"it's fine, it's perfect, come whenever you want. At this point if we aren't here, then we're at the park or the beach. Please don't worry" I told Billy and then looked at Jake, but he was still gazing at Ty. She didn't notice as she got sucked into the princess movie again. She was still on Billy's lap, laying back against his chest.

"Grandpa look, this is where they find the snowman" she said to Billy as she put her hands on his face to make sure he was looking at the movie.

I laughed at Billy's face; it must have surprised Jake because he finally looked at me. He stared at me as if barely realizing I was there; he had been watching Ty so intently, that he must have just missed me.

I smile at him and for whatever stupid reason it made me blush, so I looked away.

Charlie walked in and smiled at us, then picked up Ty and gave her the biggest kiss. He then looked at Billy.

"Hey Chief, want to go to the store and we can pick up food to barbeque?" he told Billy as he put Ty down.

Billy looked at my dad, but I could see he was trying to see what Jakes reaction to this was. I rolled my eyes, Jakes a big boy he can be here without Billy.

Billy finally answered when he saw there was no answer or reaction from Jake.

"Yeah, chief let's go, we need some beer anyways" Billy said to Charlie, and he turned back to Ty.

Ty turned to Billy and Charlie and had a sassy look on her face.

"Nuh uh grandpa, I heard Grandma Sue say that you can't drink beer anymore, is bad for you." Ty said with a tone that made me start laughing but left all three men shocked.

Charlie answered first getting out of the shocked state first "Look here little lady, Grandma Sue says the same thing about candy, but we still eat it right?" Charlie said with a sweet tone, he was trying to butter her up. He knew she was the biggest tattle teller.

I couldn't keep the smile off my face, I looked over at Jake and saw the adoration in his eyes for his daughter. He too had the biggest grin. There was nothing better than someone ruffling Charlie and Billy's' feathers.

Ty didn't even respond; she just gave him an "are you kidding me look". I laughed even harder when she finally responded back.

"I'm telling Grandma Sue, she said that if you tried to tricks me you'd get in troubles". She then turned around and started setting up her tea set again.

All three of the men's mouth just fell open, surprised at my daughters' smart mouth. I smiled and looked at Jake.

"She's your daughter, if I remember correctly the twins couldn't get away with anything, once you knew what tattling was". I told him teasingly.

My heart leaped when he smiled back, and it was his old smile, my smile. The kind of smile that could melt the sun. I was surprised my breathing was normal with how big the butterflies in my stomach were.

"I remember little Bella running around with me and investigating what the twins were up to also, so Ty never had a chance with us as parents." He said chuckling and hearing it made my leaping heart feel like it was going to jump out of my chest. He not only smiled at me, but he teased back, I couldn't help the small stirring of hope that was growing. This might work, we can have some sort of relationship.

Jacob then looked over at Billy and Charlie, "looks like its water and soda old man" he said as he clapped his dad in the back.

Both Billy and Charlie looked at us and shook their heads and started muttering about a five-year-old granddaughter telling them what to do. They kept muttering how they were adults and could drink whatever they wanted and that they weren't afraid of Sue.

"Charlie just muttered something about not being afraid of Sue" Jake said with a laugh.

I smiled back "that's BS and he knows it". We kept smiling at each other until Jake broke it off and looked at TY.

"I'm kind of thirsty Ty, I would love some of your tea" Jake told her.

Ty's head whipped around so hard it looked cartoonish. She then looked at me and smiled.

"Mama, we need to make the tea, and we need the mandalins" she said as she walked up to me and started pulling my hand to get off the couch.

"Honey, its madeleines not mandalins" I corrected her as I stood up.

I looked over at Jake and whispered to him as I walked by "I hope you liked hot water and lemon".

He snorted as he stood up and sat where I was, so he could be closer to where Ty was.

"Ty, stay here with dad. I'll make the tea" I told her, and she quickly ran back to the living room making me grin.

As I was waiting for the tea kettle, I remembered to finish my message to Alice about the house. I left my laptop on the couch. Just as I was about to leave the kitchen, Jake walks in.

I look up at him and his eyes are hard, and I see the anger coming off him. His mouth is in a tight line, and I could see his tense shoulders and how his hands are clenched tightly.

I wasn't used to an angry Jake; it was rare when he would lose his temper when we were younger.

"What is it?" I whispered a bit urgently. What could have happened in basically 2 minutes from him to be this upset.

"Where do you think you are going?" he responded in a tight voice, I could feel his restraint to not explode.

"What are you talking about? I was going to back to the living room." I told him in the same clipped tone he was giving me.

If looks could kill, Charlie would find my dead body on his kitchen floor. I curse myself for feeling any sort of hope for us.

Stupid Bella, this isn't your Jake anymore. He's a stranger.

He just stares at me, so I stare back; I wasn't going to back down. I don't know what I wasn't backing down from, but I wasn't going to let him treat me like this.

"Do you seriously hate me, Bella? Because that is the only reason why you would treat me like this". He said in a tone and voice I didn't recognize from Jake. He sounded so jaded and cynical. "Why you would give me such a precious gift and then yank it away again" he said as he started to yell.

His voice echoed in the kitchen, and it made me jump. I know he would never physically hurt me, but it still made me take a step back from him.

He saw the move and his eyes widened at the realization that he scared me. He let out a frustrated breath and walked over to the dining table and the sat down on one of the chairs and faced me. His eyes still hard but he looked like he was trying to calm down.

"I'm not going to ask again Bella, where are you going?" he asked in a more controlled voice, but I could see his leg bouncing and his hands were still clenched.

I let out a strangled breath, I have no clue what the hell he was talking about.

"First of all, I don't know why you think that you can speak to me in this way" I seethed at him. Regardless of what he thinks of me, and the past that we have. I'm the mother of his child and he should respect that.

"Do you really want to be the type of man who yells at the mother of his child? I said to him, and he just kept staring at me.

"Do you think its ok to show Ty that someone yelling at her is normal?" I added when he still wouldn't answer.

I turned around to the stove when the tea kettle when off. Just as I was going to tell Jake how much more of an ass he was being, Ty ran in.

"Is it ready?" she ran to me as she started jumping up and down. I smiled at her and tried to fix her hair and crown. "We need to let it cool down remember?" I said as I finished fixing her all up.

She then let out an annoyed breath and ran off.

I looked back at Jake with my heart in my throat. He really was gone, my heart ached for the boy I fell in love with. The kind boy who would learn quotes from my favorite books just to make me smile and who would always help anyone who was stuck on the side of the road.

"I saw your laptop" he let out in a more subdued voice "I saw a message from a realtor pop up about a great location, but it was far". He didn't even look at me as he said this. I didn't know what to say so I just said the first thing that popped into my head.

"Oh, fuck Jake". Then I turned around and set up Ty's tea set and left him in the kitchen.

It had been a few days since that day in the kitchen with Jake, he had come back to see Ty but refused to come inside and instead played outside with her.

I didn't care, I liked looking out the window and watching them run around or play with her toys and have a picnic under the big tree.

I hated to admit it, but Jake was cute. How was a six plus foot, muscle of a man cute? I have no idea, but there he was, having a picnic with Ty while she made him hold her dolls.

"Another picnic, I thought Ty would get bored of them by now" Charlie asked, as he came into the kitchen and looked outside at Jake and Ty.

I snorted at Charlie and continued cooking dinner.

"Please they could watch grass grown and Ty would love it as long as Jake was there with her". I answered as I continues to chop veggies for the salad.

Charlie chuckled at that and then took a drink out of the refrigerator; I could hear a chair scraping and him sitting at the kitchen table.

I could feel him staring at me and the kitchen suddenly felt tense. I stopped chopping and turned around to stare at him. If he was going to bring up what I thought it was, then Jacob better wish he never came over today.

Charlie was already looking at me by the time I turned around and looked uncomfortable.

Maybe this is something else.

"What is it"? I asked just to get it over with.

"Look, I know you're looking for another place to live, but I don't think that's a good idea" he finally said after a few heartbeats of me looking at him.

I would bet all of Ty's toys that Jake mentioned something to Billy and of course, Billy told Charlie. All three of them are terrible gossipers.

I looked at Charlie and smiled at him, then I turned back to food that was on the stove. I was making spaghetti and meatballs. Ty loved meatballs.

"Look dad, I'm going to guess this has to do with Jake seeing something on my laptop" I told him.

"I am also assuming that you, Jake and Billy discussed and made a decision about my and my daughter's life" I continued. If I know these men, I know that they already started looking up places they deemed ok for me to move too.

"First of all, Bells, that's my granddaughter and if you are taking her somewhere, I deserve to know, both of you are my girls" he responded in an angry voice.

I turned back and looked at him, his face was starting to get red with anger. The last thing I wanted was to upset him, but he doesn't understand that everything I do is to protect him. To protect all of them. I have to be cruel to keep protecting them.

"She is your granddaughter, and she loves you, I love you, but she is MY daughter and I will do whatever I feel is best for us". I decided to answer in a calm loving voice, so we could end this topic.

I really don't want to deal with this.

"I brought her to be close to family, but we can't share a bedroom forever. She needs her own space, a place she can call her own. You can't expect us to live at grandpa's house forever". I really wish he would just drop it; I don't want to be a brat and say something that will hurt him and our relationship, but I will.

"I understand Bells" he said in a calmer voice. If anything, he looks surprised, I think he was expecting a fight.

"Look" he says as he takes out a paper from a pocket from his pants.

"We saw some…" he was saying before I interrupted him.

"I'm going to stop you right their dad" now I was getting upset. I was not going to have them dictate where I am going to live if I let them do this it will never stop.

"I will move when I feel it's the right time, and when I do move, it will be to a city and a home that will be best for Ty, not for you, Billy or Jake, not even for me." I told him as I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the kitchen counter, glaring at him.

"None of you have any say, if I feel that Forks or La Push aren't good for Ty then I'll look and go elsewhere." I couldn't promise him I will be close forever, even if I wanted to stay in my old bedroom and have the safety of my father's home surrounding us. It just isn't meant to be.

Charlie stands up and looks at me like he doesn't know me. It hurts seeing him like this, it makes my chest ache. Oh dad, I wish I could stay here with you. I wish Ty could wake up every morning like she does now and wave you off to work until she's grown up.

"I can't believe you would even consider leaving again. It was hard when you left for school, it was harder knowing you were pregnant and alone and when Ty was born and you still refused to come back home, my heart just about broke." He said in a hopeless voice. It made my eyes sting.

"After years of hoping you would finally come home, you did. I finally have all my girls with me, and you want to leave?" He continues and seems to get angrier with each word.

He comes closer to me, his face red and his eyes glassy with unshed tears. I could count in one hand how many times I've seen Charlie cry and I hate myself for doing it now.

"Your mom took you away from me and I had no say in the matter, it was the hardest time in my life and I survived it. I did what I could to see you and be part of your life but it wasn't the same. I'm telling you now, you try to take my granddaughter away from me and I won't be that same man that let Renee take you. I will do anything to make sure I don't lose out on being part of that little girls' life. Don't test me Bella." Charlie said and walked away without letting me say anything. What could I say to that anyways?

I turned and looked outside and saw Jake looking back at me. He looked angry, he stares at me for a few heartbeats and then turns back to Ty.

Charlie was right, I couldn't blame him for his fears. Renee took me and didn't care what it would do to him and here I was, doing the same thing to him and jake.

Unlike Renee though, I was doing it to protect the people I love.
