Dido Cruger: Power Rangers SPD Chapter 3

The mission to catch and retrieve those elusive Parkington Market thieves is a complete and utter dud.

The three of them return empty handed and royally miffed, especially Sky.

At present all three of them are currently standing at attention in the Command Center as their Commander addresses them, relaying crucial criticism on their performance. And to be frank his bluntness towards them is far from kind.

Then again, when is it not?

Pacing in front of the cadets, expressing his displeasure, Commander Cruger said "You underestimated your opponent and were soundly defeated."

Shaking her head unconfident yet humbly, Sydney said "We are so not ready to be Rangers."

Leaning slightly over to her, stiffly, Sky disagreed "I'm ready."

Dido rolls her eyes heavenwards at how obnoxious he sounds. His ignorance still astounding in how entirely contrast with his father's old attitude.

Sarcastically, indignant, Bridge said "Oh, so it must've been Syd and me who let those two get away then."

Before Sky can retaliate with further insult, interceding, Commander Cruger said "Listen to yourselves. "There's no team here. This is the issue you will have to overcome before you will have to become a Power Ranger."

"Oh…I get it. All we have to do is stop blaming, criticizing, and judging each other," asked Syd.

"You forget to mention failing to bring in suspects," adds Bridge, grinning.

"Right. Let's see…that puts us right on schedule to be Rangers around…Never," said Syd, honestly.

Well at least these two are acknowledging their own shortcomings and mistakes. It's progress, small, not a lot, but it is there.

"You'll meet those two again," promises Commander Cruger.

Stepping forward to voice his own report of the chase, Sky said "Sir. These civilians…they were different. They had special abilities like we do."

Father and daughter exchange a secretive glance carrying information only they are privy to.

"Yes, I know," said Commander Cruger, nodding in confirmation. He then gestures at the door for Sky to follow him. "Cadet Tate, come with me."

The two then depart leaving the remaining three staring after them. Realizing there's no sense in the other cadets hanging around in there Dido dismisses them and trails after the duo.

"Why Red Ranger, Cadet," inquires Commander Cruger.

"Lots of reasons, Sir. I'm top on "B" Squad in test stores, weaponry, and in fighting," said Sky, undaunted, fully expecting to be the Red Ranger, softening as he next touches a subject that all are familiar with, the very reason why he pushes himself so hard every day to become the most superior. "And as you know, Sir, my father was the Red Ranger. Ever since I was a little kid, I've trained for the day I'd become like my dad. The next Red Ranger."

In this alone Dido admires Sky highly. She can understand where he's coming from, trying so hard to be like the parent they view as the bigger role model in their lives.

Unfortunately he's going about it the wrong way.

As proven given by the answers he provides to what her father questions him about next.

"Your father was the best of the best of Rangers," said Commander Cruger. "If you're anything like him, we will all benefit from your service. Dismissed."

"Thank you, Sir," said Sky, smiling proudly as he salutes his Commander.

Before Sky can depart to rejoin the other cadets, her father stops him one last time.

"Cadet, if I was to appoint Syd as Red Ranger would you follow her into battle," broaches Commander Cruger.

Smirking in disbelief at the notion, mockingly towards his comrade, obnoxiously, Sky said "Sir, she's a girl."

Dido resents that remark.

"Or Bridge," suggests Commander Cruger.

Shaking his head in outright denial, but a touch more respectful towards his fellow male comrade, speaking what he wholeheartedly believes to be the truth, Sky states "I like Bridge, but in all honesty, Sir, he's not a leader."

And Sky is?

Dido thinks not. Not by a longshot.

Sky doesn't yet deserve to be Red Ranger in any form.

"I see," sighed Commander Cruger, disappointed by what he's just heard well hidden and careful not to express. "Thank you for your honesty, Cadet. That will be all."

Saluting his commanding officer once more Sky then takes his leave.

Only when he's absolutely sure Sky is gone Commander Cruger unveils her.

"Observations," ordered Commander Cruger, without turning towards her, allowing her to speak freely since they have more privacy now being alone and trusting her judgment.

"His lack of flexibility, acceptance to change, and open mindedness will lead to B Squads ruin. If he's granted the rank and title of Red Ranger, the way he is now, the second he leads them out onto the field in their first real combat situation with Emperor Grumm on the way, there's no doubt in my mind all three of them will perish," reports Dido, both brutally honest and realistic about what she's seen.

"I concur," said Commander Cruger, father and daughter of the same mindset. "Sky's always showed promise, but he still has much to learn. Harsh lessons that will mold him into a fine Ranger he is supposed to be."

"But with Emperor Grumm on the way, soon to be upon us any day, we don't have time to wait for him to grow up," presses Dido, grimacing at their dilemma, placing a hand on her father's arm. "What are you going to do?"

"That we will have to wait and see," admits Commander Cruger, contemplating his thoughts.

Authors Note:

Apologies for the long wait everybody!

I cannot begin to describe how apologetic I am for taking so heinously long to get back on track. From this day forward that's all gonna change.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

So I've got some bad news for all my loyal readers. My dog just passed away a couple of months ago. To be perfectly honest I'm heartbroken. He meant so much to me and even though my family has had other dogs in the past, since I moved out, he was my baby and the first animal to ever well and truly be mine. Especially during all of this craziness with covid-19 I think all dog owners can agree that your canine companions can really fill that void that one can find themselves stuck in. And make their households complete. So this is a shout out to all fellow dog lovers out there that see them as their children. Keep your animals close to you and cherish them always…That goes for cats, too. ;)
