A.N: As you will see, with a month worth of memories from Feline, Ais is no longer thinking or acting much like a child. This change was gradual enough that Ais barely noticed, but those surrounding her are privately puzzled and astonished at how fast she is learning and how mature and intelligent Ais is becoming.
Also yet another use for italic font is now when characters are reading or writing something. And for conscious emphasized thoughts of characters.

Ch 4: A contract? Meetings with Hermes, Preparations, Falna
Finally though there was word that Hermes was arriving in Asteria. One of his familia members had come the day before to inform the Commander, rent out an office space, and start letting those Monster Hunters who had a falna with him know he was going to be available, as well as setting up appointment times for those who wanted to try convincing Hermes to write up a contract and give them his falna as well.
Ais had convinced Elaine to try to get a falna, and Joan was also deeply interested, so they all set up appointments to meet with Hermes during the evening 2 days after he was set to arrive. Apparently mornings and afternoons were completely set aside for Hermes to update falna status, and there were Monster Hunters who had asked for appointments that Hermes had not gotten to the last time he visited.
Ais was very excited for the meeting with Hermes, although also anxious since she could not really offer much in return just yet. She was not sure if Hermes would agree to set up a contract and give her a falna. She could offer her extra vigor-wasps, but everything else was provided by Eleanor and Elaine, so until she was finally allowed to go on at least ingredient hunts for the canteen and various botanists and researchers, Ais could not offer much to Hermes to convince him to give her a falna. Ais knew that if the ROB had not been lying that once she was allowed on ingredient hunts if she had a falna she could swiftly offer more, since her inventory should be able to hold much more than a big Jagras bag, hopefully at least, but until them Ais could offer very little.
The time of their appointments arrived swiftly. Elaine and Joan had set up a time right after each other, with Ais being last before Hermes closed for the night to sleep. If their appointments did not take the full time that would give Ais more time to try to convince Hermes.
"Meow, I still think this is silly, meow. We don't even know if Palicos can gain a falna, meow. Even if we can, relying on this falna status seems cheap, meow, like we are saying Palico's still can't become Monster Hunsters on their own without some advantage. Meow. I'm only agreeing to see if it is possible, meow, and useful without making me dependent, meow." Elaine said as they were waiting outside the office.
Then there was silence. Joan was not willing to talk much, since really if a falna were impossible to give to Palico's her appointment would have no point. Joan started reading a book about monsters to pass the time. Ais reluctantly tried to follow Joan's example, but was too nervous to stay still for long so got up to pace every 5 minutes.
30 minutes later Elaine exited with a surprised expression and a scroll with her copy of her contract, and a sheet of paper that detailed her falna status. Both Joan and Ais cheered.
Then Joan rushed in to hopefully get her own falna, though since she was a rookie still she had as little to offer as Ais currently, and needed to bargain based on future offerings like Ais would mostly be doing.
While waiting for Joan Ais crowded around Elaine to ask how everything went and what her falna showed. Elaine casually mentioned
"Meow, Hermes barely bothered to bargain, meow, he was quite interested to see if he could grant his falna to a Palico. Meow. Apparently no Palico has ever asked before, meow, but very few humans like acting as supporters long term in the dungeon of Orario, meow, so if Palico's could gain falna Hermes would spread the word to the gods there, meow, and many gods and their familias would come to see if they could recruit a Palico. Meow.
I'll provide one bag made from a Great Jagras belly per status update for 6 months, meow, then we will re-negotiate based on how well I am doing as a hunter. Meow."
Elaine's stats were all in low numbers, since the 1st falna did not take into account the actual strength, endurance, dexterity, agility or magic someone had before getting a falna. As long as Elaine killed at least 1 monster in between the next status update, it would change to reflect her actual status.
So Elaine's Stats were :
Strength: I 0
Endurance: I 0
Dexterity: I 0
Agility: I 0
Magic: I 0
Still, Elaine had been pleasantly surprised to learn she already had 3 skills.
Artel Assist: this skill assists in increasing Elaine's abilities to manage weight and stay balanced when carrying heavy loads. For all intents and purposes with this skill Elaine could stuff her great Jagras bag to the max it could carry of heavy objects like metal armor and not need to worry about the extra weight added.
Cheer: a magic skill that uses music to grant extra abilities to those Elaine wants to support. This is based on the Hunter's system of measuring stats so buffs are Attack up, Defense up, Stamina consumption reduced, Affinity up, Health recovery up, and Health increase.
Hunter Dream : Because Elaine wants to become a Monster Hunter in her own right, she gains a version of the Hunter Development ability, but as a passive skill. This skill increases her abilities when facing a monster she has fought before. And increases her affinity to Hunter styled weapons.
Ais was pleased for Elaine, although she knew Elaine had mixed feelings for two of her skills being related to Palico skills of supporting. Still, those skills could easily help Elaine even as a Hunter, since Elaine would not have someone else to support her unless she could convince another Palico to do so.
It also made Ais happy that her own possible skills would not seem too out of place. The inventory ability could seem like a rare version of Artel Assist and hopefully the others would not seem strange either since Ais was a half-elf so was expected to be able to do magic, Resilient body could maybe be explained as a result of how hard Ais had been training.
After 30 minutes Joan came back with a beaming smile, a contract, and her own status sheet.
So Ais entered next. Hermes was sitting at a desk, and there was another chair and an odd couch in the office as well as stacks of paper and empty scrolls surrounding the desk and on the desk. Hermes had curly brown hair and brown eyes and looked like a young athletic man from what Ais could see. He wore a lightweight cream colored shirt.
He frowned slightly when he caught sight of Ais, then said,
"It was my understanding that the other two and you all chose your appointments so close together because you are close friends and train together, I was expecting you to be another Palico."
"No, I'm a half-elf, though I am training in the Palico way, since I knew there was no way the adults would let me become a Monster Hunter until I am older, even if I became skilled enough to do so." Ais said.
"So you will act as a supporter until you are older, understandable, that is how many young Adventurers start out. Are you planning to join my famillia or do you want a contract like all these Monster Hunters seem to want." Hermes said.
"I would prefer a contract please, I have no idea what you would ask of me as a member of your famillia, but I know at the least you would want me to leave Asteria with you. I do not want to do so yet. I want to get stronger and more skilled as a supporter, and hunt at least small monsters with those I have been training with, and to help pay Eleanor and Elaine for everything they have done to help me since they took me in. Maybe in the future, when I have learned and helped as much as I can without being an adult I will leave to either join your familia or if you agree buy out my contract and join another famillia, to try to explore Orario's dungeon as either a supporter or hopefully adventurer in my own right." Ais spoke firmly
Hermes sighed regretfully at a lost opportunity to gain a true famillia member, then said
"What can you offer to get me to agree to give you a falna and update your status when I come to Asteria?"
"Right now, only vigor-wasps and their vitality nectar that I cultivate. But I am very close to being able to go on ingredient hunts on my own or with other rookies at least, and to being able go out and support Eleanor and Elaine in their hunts. After I have helped Eleanor and Elaine for a little while, I might also assist members of your familia or Monster Hunters that have your falna.
I know how to use a plunder-blade, flash-fly cages, pukei bow, kitty of the valley rod, and acorn spade dagger. I have trained with wooden and bone replicas of multiple swords, a scythe, and a mace, so whenever we get the parts for them I should be able to wield them in days. I have my own great Jagras bag, and can carry it easily when half full with vigor wasps, flash-fly cages, rations, and the weapons and basic armor I have been training in." Ais answered as firmly as she could manage.
Hermes had blinked in surprise at the long list of weapons and peered at Ais curiously saying "How old are you anyway to know at least the basics of so many weapons?"
"I am 5 years old and some months, but very dedicated and mature for my age since I was orphaned in a monster attack" Ais responded, disliking the use of the word orphan since it implied her Momma was dead, but knowing that for now it helped to explain everything quickly.
"hmmm," Hermes said thoughtfully, then glanced at a clock and said.
"I'll want to think about it a bit. It is late so why don't we meet again in 3 days during the early evening, say 6 pm. One thing I'd like to mention, if you agree to travel with myself and my famillia to Orario to establish a vigor-wasp hive there I'll likely agree that it counts toward not just the initial falna but multiple status updates. You don't have to stay in Orario for a long time, just long enough to be sure someone there is trained in how to cultivate them. We can quickly write up a contract and I can grant you falna status the same evening, or the next day.
I am actually planning to stay here in Asteria a bit longer than usual to see if I can recruit an unassigned Palico or convince the Palico's of the various Monster Hunters who already have my falna to gain one. Here is a blank scroll, write down what you feel you will be prepared to offer and when, especially the travel to establish a vigor-wasp hive. I would prefer if you leave with us this trip, but understand that you might not be willing to drop everything you have been focusing on, or have enough vigor-wasps to transport an entire hive, so will understand if you want to wait until my next trip here.
Ais nodded, disappointed she would not get her falna right now, but happy that at least he would consider it. It did sound like establishing a vigor-wasp hive was the main reason Hermes was agreeing, which sounded strange to Ais. Vigor-wasps were very useful so she did not understand how no one had managed to establish a vigor-wasp hive there before this.
Orario was not that isolated, surely?
Vigor-wasps had been discovered for at least 40 years before this, and Monster Hunters had categorized them as very useful for most of that time. Maybe there was some secret to making them breed fast? Elaine had provided not just sugar water, but null berry juice, honey, jelly, nectar from flowers, and other juices and fruits when she had Ais training and feeding them every 2 hours to increase their numbers.
Ais planned on asking both Amber the botanist and Elaine about this, and if it was okay for her to tell the secret to whoever was going to be tending to vigor-wasps in Orario.
Ais really wanted to gain a falna, but if she needed to betray a secret to get one from Hermes she would wait and find another god to gain a falna from.
Ais then said "See you in 3 days at 6 pm, bye" to Hermes and left the office. Elaine and Joan were surprised to see Ais come out without a contract scroll or status sheet.
"Meow! He refused! You wanted one the most out of all of us. I know you don't have much to offer right neow, but neither did Joan, meow, and he still granted her a falna. Meow!" Elaine said indignantly.
"We'll meet again in 3 days, at 6 pm. I have another chance. It was just late, and I think he wanted to be sure I could actually provide what he asked and would agree to it first. Hermes wants me to travel to Orario with him while carrying a lot of vigor-wasps and equipment to establish a vigor-wasp hive there. Then they'll escort me back here after the vigor-wasps have started breeding and I've taught their equivalent of a botanist how to tend to them." Ais said.
"Meow, that is a relief, meow, though if you leave for so long you'll miss when Joan, Sorrow, Waddles and the other rookie Palicos go on their first hunt with their Meowsters. Meow. And going on your first hunt with Elaine and I."
"About that, I may not leave at all, Amber the botanist will know for sure, but is there some secret to breeding vigor-wasps, and is the Guild of Monster Hunters keeping the secret deliberately? There is no way that if Hermes and others value vigor-wasps they would not have established a hive in Orario before this unless there was some secret."
"Meow, I think it is something in their diet. Meow, I noticed they do not breed if I stick to cheap options like sugar water and common juice. Meow, but they do when I give them more variety, meow, like what they eat/drink in the wild. Meow. I do not think it is kept secret deliberately, meow, it just might be rare information that only botanist's know for sure, meow, and Hermes or his famillia have little to do with botanists so would not have asked. Meow." Elaine responded.
"Tomorrow I'll go and ask Amber then., though I am still uncertain if it is alright for me to just leave for a month, or even longer. I'll miss out on so much training and other stuff." Ais said.
"Meow, we can decide later, meow, maybe after talking to both Amber and Eleanor, meow, for neow lets go home and sleep, meow." Elaine said.
Ais and Joan nodded, and they all left to go to their homes.
-_-scene break-_-scene break-_-scene break-_-scene break_-scene break-_
After waking up and eating breakfast, Ais headed strait for the garden of Amber the botanist rather than the training yard as she usually would have. Ais found Amber watering flowers and otherwise tending to the life of the garden, as expected. Ais then offered to help for a bit if Amber would answer a question.
"Good Morning Amber, I have a question that may need a detailed answer, so if I help out for a bit would you promise to take the question seriously and tell me the answer even if it is complicated?" Ais asked.
"Of course, Ais, I don't mind teaching you new things." Amber said happily.
After about an hour spent with Ais helping out they had most of the garden tended to, including Ais own vigor-wasps. So Ais explained her new situation.
"I wanted to gain a falna from a god, since it seems very useful. Eleanor recommended Hermes since he treats his falna as a business contract, that way everyone knows up-front what is expected in return for the falna and continued status updates. Last night I finally met him and asked for a falna, listing some of the vigor-wasps from this hive as the only thing I could offer immediately, but saying I could offer more later on once I've had time to train more.
Hermes said that he needed to think a bit before agreeing, but also all but guaranteed that he would agree if I would go to Orario with enough vigor-wasps and equipment to establish a new hive there. Since I know there has to be a reason that this seemed so important to Hermes, I figured there was some secret to breeding vigor-wasps that you obviously know. Elaine guessed it was something they ate/drank, but was not sure what it is precisely. So what is the secret? And is it alright to tell whoever will be tending to the vigor-wasps in Orario?"
"Excellent deduction Ais! It is not really a secret, but not known to all Palico's and it is a rare Monster Hunter who will bother to learn such information, so clearly Orario and the people there have not figured it out yet. Do you want me to lead you to the reason slowly and let you figure it out by the same process we botanist's use, or just tell you the answer without telling you how we figured it out over time?" Amber asked.
Ais laughed a bit, then said "you clearly want to tell me the long way, and I said I knew the answer was probably complicated, so lead me through it."
"Ok. First, we looked at the environment. Vigor-wasps can only be found in actual hives in the Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, and the Coral Highlands. A few individuals might be found in the Guiding lands, but those are probably survivors brought by Palicos. So what do all these locations have in common?"
Ais thought, trying to recall what she knew of all three locations. She knew the most about the Ancient forest, but had read about the Wildspire Waste and Coral Highlands too. From Elaine Ais already knew it was something that they ate/drank rather than solely the conditions surrounding them, and all three of those locations were pretty different anyway. It also had to be something not very common, or the people of Orario would have already figured it out.
Ais thought, also thinking about what Elaine had fed her vigor-wasps while increasing their numbers. Not sugar water or cheap juice. Something found in the wild. So . . . null berries! Elaine had given the vigor-wasps null berry juice, and smeared null berry jelly over armor as part of the training to seek out wounds, and null-berries all grew in those three locations.
"Null berries or null berry juice. It makes sense, null berries are pretty valuable and provide an antidote to most afflictions and blights, most would not want to waste them as food for vigor-wasps. The vigor-wasp vitality nectar can also help heal or negate afflictions and blights, so clearly null berries are a big part of their diet in the wild." Ais said confidently.
"Well done! That is indeed one of the key things we have found that vigor-wasps need to not only survive, but also breed." Amber said.
"There is one other rare thing vigor-wasps need to be able to breed and grow rather than just live. Here's a big hint in riddle form: Flowers are needed to produce this, but it is not found within them." Amber said.
Ais thought, and thought, even deliberately trying trigger one of the Feline woman's memories. What needs flowers to be made but is not in flowers? Well, nectar was produced by flowers and was one of the things Vigor-wasps ate/drank. But nectar was found in them. Flowers needed to be pollinated to transform into fruit, but fruit was not inside a flower, so another type of berry or fruit? What other fruit could be found in the Ancient forest,Wildspire Waste and Coral Highlands? Ais could not think of any at all.
Then, a memory of the Feline woman came. Watching a documentary about bees of all things, and learning that honey was made from bees drinking the nectar of flowers then throwing it up in their hive in the form of honey. Feline had been disgusted that the delicious honey was actually bee vomit, and refused to eat anything with honey on it for years since she had learned that when she was a child.
Ais was surprised by how useful that memory was, since honey was also harvested from all three locations, but Ais did not think bees lived in those locations, still, the honey came from somewhere so that had to be the answer, Elaine had also fed her vigor-wasps honey so it fit.
"Honey is also needed." Ais said.
"Great job Ais! You are absolutely right! More specifically, vigor-wasps need to eat the honey that Vespoids produce. Vespoids are small monsters found in all three locations as well! Vespoids are too aggressive and dangerous to be made into pets or tamed so they are rarely captured, but their honey is collected regularly since it is an ingredient in many potions and it is a natural sugar that is very good tasting." Amber said in pride.
"So is it okay to tell whoever takes over the vigor-wasp hive in Orario this? Will it decrease the value of vigor-wasps too much and mess up trade between the guild of Monster Hunters and the guild of Adventurers?" Ais asked.
"You don't need to worry about such things, focus on what is best for you." Amber said warmly.
"But the guild of adventurers will still need to trade for the Vespoid honey that vigor-wasps need to breed, as it is unlikely any of them would be capable of handling and breeding vespoids, since they are aggressive and poisonous. And I don't think Vespoids are native to Orario's dungeon or the area immediately around it. There are other, less dangerous, endemic life producers of honey, but when we tried giving that to vigor-wasps they still did not breed. And though a bit more common to find, remember that Null berries are also needed. So trade will continue." Amber added on
Ais nodded in relief, then said,
"I'm still going to talk to Eleanor before deciding, but at least I know that if I do agree, I will be able to bring null berries and Vespoid honey with me so the vigor-wasps will start breeding in Orario. I think I'll go talk to Eleanor now before she leaves on a hunt, she should still be on the Monster Hunter training grounds training Jacob, the rookie Monster Hunter assigned to her, so bye for now."
Ais then hurried to the Monster Hunter training grounds. She paused outside of them to see if she could find Eleanor. Ais noted to herself jealously that the training equipment was much more complex and better kept than in the Palico grounds. The training dummies all used monster hide rather than a mix of monster hide and cloth. They were also much more detailed and shaped closer to their monster equivalents. They were also stuffed with wool that had been dyed red to be more realistic, Ais noticed on seeing a Monster Hunter slash and something red and fluffy come out. Instead of just sandbags painted like monsters there were stuffed monsters or carved wood monsters that were miniature replicas of various monsters, or even close to life sized. The spinning pole had multiple wooden boards in varying levels with rope tied to them, and there was a second smaller spinning pole close enough that they could be used at the same time for an added challenge.
Ais shook her head as a signal to herself to get back to the present, the reason she was here in the first place. Admiring and envying the training ground for Monster Hunters was pointless, the Palico training ground was good enough, all this extra stuff was just that, extra. Ais needed to find Eleanor to ask her advice and for permission to go to Orario to begin with, since Eleanor was like a guardian or foster parent.
Ais walked into the training grounds, carefully walking around the training dummies until she found some people actually using them. She passed by two others since they were not Eleanor. She walked close enough to check who they were, and the third set was Eleanor and Jacob, they were not visible from the entrance, but they were near it at least.
Ais then carefully walked close enough that they could see her, and waited for a break in their training.
After about 15 minutes that break came, and Eleanor noticed Ais standing patiently to the side, though by that time Ais was lost in thought and mentally debating whether she wanted to leave Asteria.
"Ais! Ais! What are you doing here? Ais!" Eleanor called out.
"I wanted advice from you. Hermes did not agree to grant a falna right away, though in 3 days at 6 pm I will meet again to get another chance. Hermes basically said that he would agree to give me a falna and count it as payment for multiple status updates if I agreed to travel with his familia and him to Orario carrying vigor-wasps , their food, and any equipment to set up a vigor-wasp hive in Orario, then stayed long enough to train someone to cultivate them in Orario.
I asked Amber the botanist, and she said that vigor-wasps can survive on juice, sugar-water and so on, but they will not breed or grow without Null-berries or null-berry juice and Vespoid honey. Apparently no one in Orario or Hermes know about that detail so no one has managed to create a vigor-wasp hive in Orario yet. So I know now that I can fulfill that bargain, but I am still not sure if it is worth the loss of training time, or missing out on being able to go on ingredient hunts or follow you and Elaine on a minor hunt.
I know it will take a while to reach Orario, at least a week and I'll need to stay there a minimum of 2 weeks, probably 3, then come all the way back here again. So that means I will be gone an entire month, but probably longer. I want to know if you would be okay with me leaving that long, and if you would still let me go on ingredient hunts and minor hunts a week after I get back, or if I would have to finish training for another month." Ais explained the entire situation.
"I know you want a falna a lot, and if I can talk to Hermes to make sure he will have people keeping you safe, making sure you have enough food, and so on this seems like an excellent opportunity. Maybe you can include that in the contract, but a verbal promise is probably good enough. Maybe you can even try exploring the dungeon of Orario with some of the Hermes familia members while you are waiting in Orario to make sure the vigor-wasps are breeding to see if you like it. If you do, you might even choose to stay longer or join the Hermes famillia to live there for a year or two. I know you want to support Elaine and I then train to be a Monster Hunter, but there is no urgency other than in your own mind for that. You are 5 years old, and a half-elf, you have a minimum of 90 more years to live, probably much more, if you don't get yourself killed by being reckless. A month or two is not a long time at all to delay, and a year not much longer in the long run." Eleanor said happily.
Ais nodded, feeling slightly sad, but hiding it. Eleanor's comment about Ais trying Orario's dungeon and possibly joining the Hermes familia to live in Orario for a year or two reminded Ais that Eleanor had only reluctantly agreed to take Ais in on a temporary basis until someone else would agree. Ais spent so little time with Eleanor and Elaine was so enthusiastic about the idea of Ais staying with them to act like a Palico-style supporter that Ais had forgotten about Eleanor's reluctance.
Maybe she should just do as Eleanor suggested and give up on becoming a Palico-style supporter and Monster Hunter for now.
After all, Ais main goal was to help kill the Black Dragon, and if the information that the ROB provided was true, in 2 years and 11 months, or near it the Hera/Zeus famillias would try to kill it. If she focused on becoming stronger in Orario's dungeon, or maybe joined the Hermes famillia in their frequent trips outside she would have a chance to level up at least once before that time.
Maybe her vigor-wasp colony, her Inventory skill to carry lots of equipment in an organized manner, and her own skills would be enough to make a difference. Maybe she could convince the Hermes famillia to help the Hera/ Zeus famillias. She could even still contact the guild of Monster Hunters close to the time of the expedition to hire them to form a group to help with guiding and teaching the adventurers how to deal with the monsters that lived in Ryumilua forest and on the way to it, as well as what little knowledge of Elder Dragons they had. She might also be able to have the Zeus/Hera famillias hire the Monster Hunters to help out with fighting the Black Dragon.
That was not what Ais had planned on at first, but plans could change. It was not what Ais really wanted to do, it did not sound as interesting or fun because it was what the Ais in the memories of Feline did in the original world. But Ais had the memories of the woman Feline and knew that adults did stuff they did not want to all the time in order to make money or reach other goals.
Ais sighed to herself, then decided she would put off making a real choice for now. Maybe she could compromise, and still live part-time with Elaine and Eleanor to go on monster hunts with them, while living part-time with the Hermes famillia in Orario or as they traveled about trading stuff. Maybe that would make Eleanor happier, if Eleanor did not have to worry about taking care of Ais or keeping her safe all the time, and she had someone to share the responsibility with.
Still, that meant Ais was definitely going on this trip to establish a vigor-wasp hive in Orario. Whether she immediately went back to Asteria or stayed a few months in Orario all depended on how much Ais liked or disliked living there. Ais refused to be utterly miserable for the next 3 years, even if it would give her a better chance at helping to kill the Black Dragon. Her Momma had told her to live as happily as possible before the magic had taken Ais away, and Ais was determined to do just that.
"I'll go then, I'll train a bit and then spend the rest of the day figuring out exactly what I will need to bring along with me on the journey, how much null berries and honey I need to bring as well as other food and more baskets for the vigor-wasps, and how much it will cost. I think businesses have a term called expenses that means whoever is asking for a service pays for everything it takes to complete the service as well as the time of the person. If that is included on my contract Hermes and I write up you won't have to pay for anything." Ais said quietly.
"That sounds very good to me, let me know if you need help with math or finding all the stuff you need. Also, if Hermes agrees to delay his trip back a bit I think I'll have just enough time to go on a hunt for either a Rathalos in the Ancient Forest to make you a Felyine Rathalos blade or a Jyuratodos in the Wildspire Waste to make a Felyine Jyura sword. That way you have something to defend yourself with other than the Pukei bow, plunder-blade, and acorn spade. I had planned on finally getting those materials soon, so you would have time to practice with the real blades, before going on ingredient hunts in a few weeks, but you can practice in Orario just as well probably. So think about which of the two you want more, there is probably not enough time to get the materials for both." Eleanor said.
" Rathalos blade, it does more damage even if it is harder to use. I don't think the monsters in Orario's dungeon have a resistance to the fire element either. If you get enough materials maybe you could make 2 Rathalos blades so I could still practice dual wielding " Ais said immediately in excitement.
Eleanor laughed, "Ha, Ha, that did not take much thought at all did it. Okay, shoo, I'll finish training Jacob and start planning my hunt for a Rathalos in the Ancient forest."
Ais nodded, all sadness vanished at the thought of getting an actual Rathalos blade or even two.
"Thanks! I'm going to try training more with the replica Rathalos blades before I figure out what I will need for the trip to Orario. Bye" Ais said
She immediately went to the Palico training yard, wanting to practice using two replicas of a Rathalos blade rather than Rathalos blade in one hand and Jyura sword in the other when she attempted to dual wield. She was not very good yet, having just been considered good enough at the basics of one sword at a time by Serge to start trying to dual wield, but she did like the idea behind the style, an all out offensive. Using identical swords might even make it easier to dual wield.
Figuring out everything she would need for the trip could wait. Ais had 3 days and 6 hours to figure it all out before meeting with Hermes again after all.
_Scene break-brief time-skip -_Scene Break and time-skip-_
The morning after Ais learned enough to be sure she could fulfill Hermes condition and decided to actually go Ais decided to actually figure out what she would need to bring and the cost. She never bothered to stop training other than eating lunch and dinner the day before, putting off finding out what she would need for this day.
After making sure that Ais would remember to include living expenses and safety in her contract Eleanor and Elaine left to hunt down a Rathalos. Elaine agreed to stick mostly to supporting Eleanor given the danger, but would attack the Rathalos if there was an opportunity rather than just healing Eleanor with vigor-wasp spray.
The rookie Monster hunters Jacob, Sophie and Kieth decided to take this opportunity to go on ingredient hunts with Joan, Sorrow, and Waddles under the supervision of Brandon, Tiger, Louis, and Hiro. Josiah and Zeus had not been assigned a rookie pair but had still agreed to help out the others when they were free. It was earlier than Eleanor had wanted. But then again partially due to the added responsibility of Ais Eleanor had transformed from a sassy, confident but patient and always prepared Monster Hunter to a mother hen. Eleanor had always had that tendency with Elaine, but suppressed it since Elaine was trained and knew how to protect herself. Ais was very jealous that all of them could leave on an ingredient hunt, but knew that Eleanor would be very angry if Ais tried to join the group without permission from Eleanor first. So Ais focused on getting the boring stuff out of the way so she could distract herself from jealousy by training.
Amber the botanist would definitely know what the vigor-wasps would need on a week-long journey and to start a new hive so that was the easy part out of the way, though Ais would likely need to help out in Amber's garden again to sort-of pay for Amber's time and knowledge.
Then Ais would need to check the prices of everything for the vigor-wasps and calculate the total. Ais would also need to check the prices of new arrows that were not blunted for her Pukei bow, get a general idea of the prices of 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, check the prices for purifying water tablets, a sleeping bag and everything else Ais would need during the travel so she could give Hermes a general idea of that total amount.
Ais should also check with a member of Hermes familia to get a more exact time of travel. Ais was mostly guessing that it took a week since apparently in the past Hermes came back to Asteria 3 weeks after he left, and figured he would have rested in Orario for a week in between the trips, but Elaine would not have considered Orario far away if it was within 5 days journey.
So after planning that out, Ais went to visit Amber again to ask about how much null-berries, honey, nectar, sugar-water, and normal juice she would need for 2 months worth of vigor-wasp food so that she could give time for whichever botanist equivalent in Orario took over the care of the vigor-wasps to find sources of their own to feed the vigor-wasps and make sure they could breed to replenish their numbers.
Ais helped out in Amber's garden again. Then brought out a notepad and pencil and said
"I decided to go to Orario to establish the vigor-wasp hive, and I also want to bring enough food for them to live for 2 months, I'll make sure Hermes pays for that as part of expenses.
So in general do you know how many jars of Vespoid honey, null-berries, and bottles of juice and sugar water that would take? If it is too much for me to carry I'll just take enough for 4 weeks, with maybe an extra week's worth of null-berries and Vespoid honey. but I have no idea how long it will take their botanist equivalent to order more and it to be delivered so I want to have plenty if at all possible.
Also, do you know how many baskets we should have of vigor-wasps to be sure of a good breeding pool? I figure I won't give them the food to breed until we arrive, but since that hive might become a permanent source of vigor-wasps for the entire city to use they will be breeding lots and lots of them whenever they can get Vespoid honey and null-berries, and there should be a good variety to start with." Ais said.
"Its so strange to me that a 5 year old child is asking such complex questions and thinking so far into the future. You are amazingly mature and apparently very well educated, you should try to become a botanist yourself once you get too old for Monster Hunting Ais. I don't have exact figures, but about 10 large jars of Vespoid honey should be enough for 2 months worth of breeding vigor-wasps or give them some extra once their first batch gets low on numbers again if they stop before that time. The idea of breeding vigor-wasps non stop for 2 months is crazy to me though, it only took 2 weeks for the vigor-wasps you started with to triple in numbers.
You will need at least 193 null-berries for 2 months or 3 liters of null-berry juice, the null-berry juice might seem more expensive but it keeps longer than the null-berries unless they are frozen. And vigor-wasps mainly suck the juice from the null-berries anyway, they eat very little of the actual berry. Ummm. . . Lets say 6 liters of normal juice or sugar water for 2 months. Those are not exact measurements since I have never had to depend solely on bought things rather than nectar from the wild as well and figure extra will be good. Also, I am assuming the number of vigor-wasps needing to be fed will increase by 10 to 20 times the original amount by that long of a period.
That is a lot, I'm not sure you can carry that all and the baskets of vigor-wasps and whatever traveling supplies and weapons so you will need to carry so 6 large jars of Vespoid Honey, 4 liters of sugar-water or normal juice, and 2 liters of null-berry juice for 5 weeks worth of food and breeding food as long as you space out the Vespoid honey and null-berry juice to 4 times every day. As for baskets, unless you want to start a whole new hive in my garden when you return I'd say 5 baskets with 6 vigor-wasps is all that we could spare, or 30 vigor-wasps. There will only be a minimum number of vigor-wasps left here that I will slowly breed back up to better numbers while you are gone" Amber answered.
Ais was surprised that Amber could even do the math to make estimates in her head that fast, and very glad she had asked Amber rather than trying to figure it all out herself. She would check prices, and then tell Hermes the figures for both amounts but say that unless she got a skill to carry more from her falna she might only be able to carry enough for 5 weeks or even less to make absolutely sure he gave her a falna before the trip rather than putting it off. When she got her inventory skill the issue would be solved as long as the inventory did not start out as able to store less than a great Jagras bag.
"Thank you for figuring that out for me, I'll go check prices of that much vigor-wasp food, though it sounds very expensive already." Ais said.
When Ais checked the prices, the amount of Valis needed was utterly ridiculous to buy that much at once. Hiring Monster Hunters and Palico's to collect it directly would be cheaper but take much longer. Still Ais dutifully wrote down V$ 12,302,001 for 5 weeks worth of Vespoid Honey, Null-berry juice, and sugar-water and normal juice. It was V$ 34, 961, 038 for 2 months worth since botanist's and merchants did not keep that much in stock and would have to give everything they had and hire at least 3 teams of Monster Hunters and Palico's to collect more in a hurry. The amount of Zenny needed was almost half that due to the strange exchange rate between Zenny and Vali, but Ais knew that the Hermes famillia were probably more used to Vali.
Ais did mention to the botanist's and other merchants that at least the lesser amount was likely to be ordered in 3-4 days by either Ais with money from Hermes or the members of Hermes famillia, and they should try to stock up a bit so they had some left for the Monster Hunters, potion makers and others to buy. But that she had written down the exact prices so inflating the price due to perceived increased demand or because it was for foreigners was not acceptable.
Ais had relied on the Feline woman's memories of a college economics class and high school math to understand all those complicated words and numbers, so she might have used words that even the merchants rarely used or knew about, but Ais felt satisfied that she had gotten her point across. The valis needed for camping supplies and normal field food was much more reasonable, V$ 1,200 since Monster Hunters were always needing to buy those things and Ais did not need a lot, just enough for her, since Hermes famillia would already have all those supplies.
With all those complicated figures written out, Ais decided to write out her idea of what should be in her contract:
Travel to Orario with vigor-wasps, carrying food for them to eat, and special food that they needed to breed would be worth a Falna and minimum of 3 months worth of updates, or 2 updates after travel back to Asteria. Hermes and his famillia would pay for all reasonable expenses related to the travel and set-up of a breeding colony of vigor-wasps, including at least V$ 12, 302,001 for 6 large jars of Vespoid Honey, 3 liters of Null-berry juice, and 4 liters of sugar-water or regular juice. This was 5 weeks worth of Vigor-wasp food, and 4 weeks worth of the special food needed for them to breed continuously.
V$ 1,200 for camping supplies and food for Ais unless they had spares already of a sleeping bag, 25 magic purifying water tablets, and 2 weeks worth of food. Hermes famillia could choose to buy any of those items directly using Ais figures as a benchmark and hoping to haggle the amounts of Vali's needed down. Hermes famillia was responsible for Ais food expenses in Orario, Ais had no knowledge of their prices but expected 3 balanced meals a day and 2 snacks.
If Hermes chose to decrease the amounts needed of vigor-wasp food Ais would not be responsible for the possible failure of the new vigor-wasp colony due to starvation after she left. The amounts of Vespoid honey and null-berries could be decreased safely to 2 weeks worth of breeding as long as only 1-10 vigor-wasps died throughout the journey and time in Orario, but a minimum of 18 vigor-wasps were needed to guarantee a healthy vigor-wasp hive.
Ais might choose to stay longer in Orario than the minimum 3 weeks to breed vigor-wasps and train a new cultivator if the Hermes famillia arranged an escort for her to safely explore the upper floors of Orario's dungeon when Ais presence was not needed to oversee the vigor-wasps.
After this deal finished Hermes famillia will provide an escort back to Asteria. Once in Asteria Ais will provide ingredients from small monsters, endemic life, and harvesting of plants to Hermes in exchange for status updates to her falna based on 10 % of what she managed to gather during the time he was away. Example: Ais gathered 100 Aponoth steaks, 20 Mosswine patties 500 mushrooms, 500 assorted fruits and nuts. So she would give Hermes 10 Aponoth steaks,5 Mosswine patties, 50 mushrooms, 50 assorted fruits and nuts. Or more fruits and nuts and some Vali or Zenny with less steaks and mushroom if they had already been eaten/sold to prevent rotting.
If Ais convinces Eleanor and Elaine to let Ais keep 10% of what they collect during the hunts she supports them, she will give Hermes 5% or less depending on how much his famillia wanted to carry. Ais might be convinced to carry materials to Orario if a good deal is offered by the Hermes famillia, especially regarding status updates. Ais may be convinced to offer other short-term services withing her capacity to fulfill if good deals are offered. After 1 year Ais will be open to being hired as a supporter or other aid by the Hermes famillia instead of only material supplies or short-term services for her falna updates.
After 2 years Ais will be open to possibly joining the Hermes famillia as long as they agree to allow Ais the freedom and resources to pursue her goals, regardless of what those goals are, or to buying out her contract and having a conversion to a different familia that would help Ais pursue her goals. The amount needed to buy out Ais contract cannot exceed 20% of her annual earnings.
Ais nodded in satisfaction, the contact may not have lots of legal jargon and fine print like some of the contracts that the woman Feline's memories said most contracts had, but it was formal, had some math figures, and covered everything Ais could think of, even including a way for Ais to pursue her goal of helping kill the Black Dragon when the expedition to kill it started being planned.
With that all out of the way Ais could train for the rest of the day with Serge in using her replica Rathalos blades to dual wield, alternating with breaks to learn about monsters, and occasionally training with her gadgets or Pukei bow.
-_-scene break-_-short time skip-_-scene break and short time skip-_-
There were only 6 hours left until I meet with Hermes to go over my contract and finally get my falna!
Ais thought in excitement.
Eleanor and Elaine have not come back from the Rathalos hunt yet. I hope nothing bad has happened to them
Ais thought in worry.
What if Hermes found a Palico specializing in vigor-wasps in the last 3 days and convinced them to establish the virgor-wasp hive instead of me and he refuses to give me a falna until I have something else to offer.
Ais thought anxiously.
Ais emotions and mind changed and wandered to extremes as the day had finally arrived that she would get her falna if all went well. Yet even though she knew from stories that hunts for rare and dangerous large monsters could take up to a week, she was also distracted by worry and a bit of lonely sadness since this was the longest she had gone without interacting with and spending most of a day in the company of Elaine, Tiger, Hiro, Zeus, Sorrow, Joan or even Waddles the entire time she had been in Asteria.
Ais had only really spoken to and spent time with Serge and Amber for longer than a few minutes this entire time. She had only occasional greetings and farewells if she managed to catch one of the other Palicos before they left for ingredient hunts for the day or in the canteen after the hunts.
Ais also felt both extremely excited at finally getting a falna, and fear that something would come up to prevent it. Also, although she desperately wanted to distract herself with training, she also did not want to lose track of time and miss her appointment time.
Ais decided to try something new, she would ask to borrow the replica Rathalos blades from Serge, then go to Amber's garden with enough supplies to start the vigor-wasps breeding for 1 day, and in between training the vigor-wasps and feeding them she would practice her basics of dual wielding Rathalos blades in an open space in Amber's garden. That way she would not lose track of time, and she would be productive.
Hopefully by the time Hermes and his famillia were ready to leave Ais would be leaving behind 10 vigor-wasps with some vigor-wasp eggs or even 11 vigor-wasps or more and eggs rather than just the 10. She would also bring 2 empty baskets in case the vigor-wasps going with her laid eggs that hatched during the journey.
Ais proceeded with her plan, but found that Amber had preempted her and already started the vigor-wasps breeding, though Amber had not found any eggs just yet. Amber did gratefully accept Ais help in feeding the vigor-wasps although she was very uncertain about letting Ais practice using her Rathalos replica swords near so many precious and fragile plants and species. Ais convinced Amber easily by promising she would not move more than 5 steps in any direction with her blades unsheathed.
She would mostly be practicing unsheathing them, and going through the basic slashes and stabs to teach her muscles how to make those movements with both arms at the same time, or even two different movements with her arms. Then sheathing her swords again, while wearing her great Jagras pack. Since the Rathalos blades had so many spikes and were an irregular shape, they had an irregular sheath so it was difficult to sheath and unsheathe them fast. Serge had suggested that Ais focused on this training exercise rather than trying anything new until Ais was safely in Orario. This exercise could help save Ais life on the dangerous road between Asteria and Orario. It would help Ais retrieve her weapons and defend herself even when she might be panicking.
Thankfully time went by fast with this to occupy Ais attention and also allowed Ais to keep track of time. She had packed a lunch so she did not need to interrupt the pattern to go eat lunch, just skipped 30 minutes of training to eat instead.
Then the time arrived that Ais could finally go meet Hermes, 15 minutes early just in case something happened. She had her figures, her mock contract scroll, and even placed a single basket with vigor-wasps and a fake flower with sugar-water just in case Hermes wanted a demonstration of her skill. She also wore the replica Rathalos blades so he would know what she would be using to defend herself on the journey. Her pukei bow and arrows were also in her pack. Ais was ready and as prepared for anything Hermes asked as she could be.
Ais reached the office that Hermes had rented 8 minutes early, and politely let the Hermes familia member that was acting as a secretary and guard outside the door know that " I am Ais Wallenstein, I have 6 pm appointment set up with Hermes and set by him during a previous appointment 3 days ago that there was no time for a resolution for due to lateness and both of us needing to think."
The famillia member was a tall fierce looking Were-tiger with brown hair, small round tiger ears on top of his head, with slit-pupil brown eyes. He was wearing chain mail with a sheathed great sword leaning against the wall right next to him.
He said. "would you please leave your bag and weapons with me outside the office, just in case your temper gets heated, or to avoid the inconvenience of removing them if the appointment goes well and Hermes grants you his falna." Ais nodded, then retrieved her mock contract scroll and sheet of prices and figures. Then the famillia member knocked on the door and told Hermes "Ais Wallenstein is here for a 6 pm appointment". Hermes called out "send her in, no reason to wait the 7 minutes until 6 with no one else here for once."
Once there, Hermes was still at his desk and there was a chair opposite him that he offered Ais to sit in with a gesture. The office looked almost exactly the same, just with fewer sheets of paper and scrolls on the desk, and an open bag full of scrolls next to the desk instead. Ais sat, and asked
"Is it okay to set these on your desk? It is my figures for the prices of food and equipment for the vigor-wasps and a mock contract scroll with what I am willing to offer, including my reasonable conditions for traveling to Orario and establishing a vigor-wasp colony there as was suggested in our last appointment."
Hermes smiled, and said
"Do you mind if I read them? I have a modified contract scroll I was going to offer you, but it will be easy enough to negotiate a compromise if the contract conditions between the two are different. You can read my version and I'll read yours."
Ais nodded and handed over the scroll and figures. Then accepted the scroll from Hermes. She then read.
This contract is between the god Hermes of the Greek Pantheon; god of trade, borders, and messages. Patron of travelers, shepherds and thieves and the Half-elf named Ais Wallenstein.
Hermes agrees to grant his blessing, falna to Ais Wallenstein in exchange for a service provided by Ais Wallenstein; traveling to Orario carrying vigor-wasps and the food and equipment necessary to set up a breeding vigor-wasp hive there.
Hermes and his famillia will provide an escort to protect Ais Wallenstein and all supplies needed on the journey, while paying all reasonable expenses for food and equipment used by Ais Wallenstein throughout the duration of her service. Ais Wallenstein further agrees to teach a person affiliated with the Hermes famillia how to tend to, train, and cultivate or breed vigor-wasps. After Ais Wallenstein is confirmed to have performed her service satisfactory the Hermes famillia will provide an escort back to Asteria at her convenience.
Hermes further agrees to waive the payment of 3 status updates in Asteria due to the potential value of Ais Wallenstein's service, with free status updates during the time in Orario. After this expires, Hermes will accept a fair amount of ingredients and monster harvests from Ais Wallenstein based on what she collects in exchange for further status updates. If both Hermes and Ais Wallensteirn agree, this contract can be modified or re-negotiated as deemed necessary.
Ais was surprised and pleased that the contract provided most of what she wanted, though it was much less precise when it came to figures while being more flexible and clear on other points. After thinking a bit, Ais decided that if Hermes had no objections she would accept a modified contract that included her escape clause and some of the figures, such as 10% of what she collected herself and 5% of what she gained from supporting others.
She was slightly embarrassed at how much unnecessary words and clauses were included in her version, when she simply could have done as Hermes had and added a provision to modify the contract if they both agreed.
She was also embarrassed that she had basically given away the secret of what vigor-wasps needed to breed by her obsession with precise figures of the prices without getting her falna first. Hopefully Hermes would not turn around and say he was no longer interested enough in her services to sign any version of a contract.
Once it was clear they had both finished reading, with Hermes looking slightly impressed and surprised at Ais figures Ais spoke up quickly
"Your version of a contract is much more clear, if you will agree to add in the escape clause or joining the Hermes famillia after 2 years, with the 20% or less buy out conversion if I feel that staying with the Hermes famillia will not offer me what I need to pursue my goals and find a famillia that does and what precisely a "fair amount" is, preferably 10% of what I collect myself and 5% or less of what I get for supporting others if I only get 10% of what is collected. Then I will agree to your version." Ais said.
"That sounds good to me, although I am quite impressed with the amount of work you must have put into your version. Did you get help from your guardian for this?"
"I got help with the math of the amounts of food needed from a botanist I know. I asked numerous merchants and botanists for their prices on individual ingredients in the amounts needed and totaled it up. I have needed less sleep than most other people ever since I arrived at Asteria so I spend a lot of time reading while everyone else is asleep. My guardian is currently out on a hunt, but I did get her permission for this trip before-hand as long as our contract included protection and that you would handle food and living expenses for the journey and while I'm there." Ais explained.
Well, lets add your suggested modifications, both of us will sign both copies I'll make and then I'll grant you my falna. You will need to lay on that couch with your back bare, since I need access to a good amount of bare skin to place the falna and that is the most acceptable place with enough bare skin." Hermes suggested.
Fair amount is defined as 10% of what Ais collects herself, or 5% of what she gains if she only gets 10% of what is collected while acting as a supporter.
Hermes agrees that after 2 years if Ais feels a different familia will help her achieve her goals better she can 'buy' out her contract and get a transferal to another famillia at the cost of 20% or less of what Ais generally earns in a year.
Was added to the bottom of the contract Hermes had offered Ais, and then he made another copy and they both signed the copies.
Then Ais awkwardly removed the armor she was wearing and after hesitating a second lay on the couch stomach facing it and moved her braided hair to her front and her shirt up to her neck and front after removing her arms from the sleeves.
Hermes patiently waited for Ais to position herself, then said formally "Do I have your permission to drip my Ichor on your back and touch your back in order to place my falna and trace your status onto it?"
"Yes." Ais agreed.
Hermes then did as he said he would. He had moved the chair so he was sitting beside Ais, and now he pierced one of his fingers with a needle and dropped a bit of his blood or as he called it ichor onto her back.
The sensation of gaining a falna was odd. First there was a drop of warm moisture, than that seemed to spread across Ais back. Heating up to just below an uncomfortable burning sensation. Then a warmth seemed to encompass Ais entire body, although with the focus on her back and spine. Hermes then moved his hands across Ais back, seeming almost to be tracing letters and symbols.
After a bit Ais heard Hermes make a surprised comment.
"so many rare skills."
Hermes then placed a special sheet of paper on Ais back and traced her status onto it to show Ais what he had seen.
Once he was done, Heres moved away and Ais put her shirt back on properly and sat up to read as Hermes handed her the paper with her status on it.
Ais status started out with the normal:
Strength I 0
Endurance I 0
Dexterity I 0
Agility I 0
Magic I 0
Then her skills were shown:
Skills:
Inventory lvl 1-
a skill/ ability that creates a sub-dimension pocket with 150 open boxes that can be filled with stack-able objects. There are 100 boxes sized for small objects. Small items are 1/3 meter (1 ft) wide and tall or less and can be stacked up to 100. There are 40 boxes for medium objects bigger than 1/3 meter(1 ft) but smaller than 2 meters (6.5ft) that can be stacked up to 50. There are 10 spots for large objects, greater than 2 meters and they can only be stacked up to 10. There is also a separate permanent slot for Valis/Zenny, low-grade magic stones, and medium grade magical stones that are unlimited stack-able for Valis/Zenny, and up to 5000 for low grade magic stone, 1000 for medium. Nothing living can be placed into the inventory.
Avenger-
a skill that is born from hatred and desire for revenge on the One-Eyed Black Dragon, and general anger at monsters in general. It has an active trigger and greatly increases the attacking power of whatever weapon is used against a monster of any kind, and against dragon-type monsters that increased attack is doubled. This skill does damage the weapon used, and may cause some weapons to shatter once the skill effect ends.
Magic Spells-
Ariel lvl 1-
a wind element enchantment that can enhance the sharpness of any weapon, cover any armor as an added protection, or act as a destructive shield, cutting apart most things that touch it, while generally increasing speed of the user through winds expelled in the opposite direction they are heading acting as propulsion. Concentrated thought is needed to choose what the spell will focus on. Aria for activation:
Ariel Tempest
Curse/ Affliction-
Air-headed-
a permanent curse/affliction that affects the mind, causing lapses of judgment, getting lost in thought at random, forgetting things temporarily, being dense or oblivious to the emotions of oneself or others on some occasions, and/or trouble focusing on one thing for an extended period of time. It can be mostly negated with regular meditation, focusing and concentration exercises, established routines, and frequent reminders/explanations from people that are important to the one afflicted.
Development Ability-
Resilient Body- A passive ability that requires no activation. While sleeping, wounds heal at a very fast rate, mind is refreshed at a very fast rate. Sleeping in a comfortable bed increases this further. Even a mere 3 hours sleep in a bed is enough to heal most woulds and completely refresh the mind. Sleeping on other surfaces decreases the healing and refreshing factor slightly.
Racial Traits- Keen eyesight, fast reflexes, long lifespan, natural wind mage, aversion to touch of the unworthy.

Review Please!
Does anyone have a good idea of how to describe monster sizes from the Monster Hunter World? I'll be using my best guesses when I get to that point, and comparing the sizes to things Ais would know but being very vague. Read A.N. For details of how I'll describe sizes and my main issue.
A.N. The inventory skill started out using the imperial system(British/American) of measurements, then I realized Danmachi uses the metric system, so I put what I am used to and what Ais, who mostly knows everything based on memories from Feline (me) in parenthesis. Since Ais is a five year old who grew up in a forest hundreds of years in the past, her own knowledge base was pitiful, but did use the imperial system. It will still exist in story, I just figure that like Imperial is now it will be an ancient system that only a few holdout stubborn people use in daily life, but metric being used by most. I will have the gods still use the imperial system, and humans and demi-humans use metric, but be used to converting for the gods to understand and vs versa.
I still have not figured out for sure how to convert whatever Monster Hunter World uses as a system of measurement, since even a conversion chart compared monsters to smaller than human size, human size, tank size, small house size, football field size and small island size with some decimal numbers and crowns next to the monster as a description.
That might be centimeters or decimeters since it was created in Japan that uses metric, but no indication of what those numbers really mean since it is supposedly based on the average size of that type of monster, with crowns meaning bigger or smaller.. The numbers were in the hundreds to thousands for most large monsters, and there were question marks for most small monsters, so it is unlikely to be meters. Small monsters were compared to human size in one chart I saw, with the average man being around 6 feet tall, although the world record is 8 ft 11 inches tall for tallest man in history. The Mammoth fool which is the equivalent of an elephant in Danmachi was listed as 7 meters, or 22 ft. Actual Elephants are around 4 meters or 12 feet high and are the largest land animal so everything is super-sized it seems. Even Giraffes, the tallest land-animal only average 5.5 meters or 16-18 feet tall. At least Danmachi lists monster sizes as meters which I can convert with a handy online conversion calculator.
