***Marinette's POV***

The sun shines through the window to my room. It might have woken me if I wasn't already awake. Looking out across the palace garden on my balcony, I sigh. I miss my parents. It's hard to look at this beautiful sight without thinking of them. They would have loved what all our hard work has turned into. I close my eyes and feel the wind and sun on my face. This is home. My life is perfect. Well, almost. My mind drifts to Adrien. The prince my parent's found based on what my powers are. They claimed that he and I were soulmates. I don't believe in that stuff. It seems too good to be true. Find the person with the powers opposite of you and you will be happy forever? I don't think so. Life is not that easy. Adrien is an only child and I have heard so many stories about his tendencies to bounce from woman to woman. It makes me sick to that this… this… boy is somehow my soulmate. I don't even know what his powers are. I open my hand as a dim pink glow appears. A rose forms in my hand. I place it in the pot on my balcony and summon my blue glow to water the flower. I stand again and lean against the railing. I wish everything would turn out alright as I close my eyes to take in the peaceful sounds. I hear a faint knock on my door. Perplexed, I open my eyes and wrap my shawl tighter around my shoulders. Walking to the door I wipe my eyes to make sure that I don't have any tears left. I open the door and find a man that I don't recognize standing there.

"Who are you?" I ask them. The man smiles and steps closer. Panicked, I try to shut the door. Despite my attempt, they put their foot in the doorway and force the door back open. I turn and run but don't get very far. I trip over my own foot and fall. I hear a laugh behind me as I try to crawl away. The mysterious man grabs my ankle and yanks me backward. I try to scream but his hand covers my mouth.

"So this is the great Ladybug," he hisses. "I expected much more of a fight, your highness. This is just pathetic." I squirm under his grip and he yanks me closer. "Stop moving or I'll kill you." Immediately, I stopped struggling.

"You will never get away with this," I say. "So help me, I will not let you get away with this." His hand made his way around my neck. Laughing, he squeezes tighter, cutting off my air supply. I choke and try to summon my powers but nothing happens. The fear that I can't do anything to help myself sets in and I continue to struggle to break free. My vision starts to go black when I hear a shout. I fall to the ground as the grip around my neck is released. I hear my name being called and I think how I won't be able to tell my husband the news I just found out. My vision goes completely black as I crumple completely.

***Adrien's POV***

Something is wrong. I can feel it. My neck is constricted as though I can't breathe. I feel the fear spike through me. Marinette, I think. I run down the hall as I hear a weak shout coming from one of the bedrooms. Oh no. I sprint through the door to the king and queen's bedroom to find her being lifted in the air by the neck.

"Hey!" I shout. The attacker drops her and runs towards me. I crouch in a fighting stance and tackle the guy. One punch to the head and he is out like a light. "Marinette!" She crumples, limp on the ground. Her neck is covered in bright red and purple bruising. I carefully lift her up and set her in the bed. She looks so pale. It was as though the life was being drained from her body. I kneel beside the bed and gently stroke her cheek. Maybe now she will believe me. I never will leave her side and I will always be there to protect her. Tears escape my eyes and run down my cheek. How close I was to losing her is almost too much to bear. I stand slowly and lean down to kiss her forehead. Oh Princess, I wish you knew how much I love you, I thought as I made my way to the door. She wouldn't want to see me when she wakes up. In fact, I am pretty sure that she hates me even though we are supposed to be soulmates. But, I don't even know for sure what her powers are. She has never used them in front of me. I bend down and pick up the dagger that seemed to have fallen out of her attacker's pocket. A green glow appears in my hands as the dagger turns to ash. I take the ashes and throw it in the fireplace. An orange glow takes over my hands as I shoot fire into the fireplace to warm up the room. I turn and grab the unconscious man from her floor and drag him into the hallway. Wiping my tears I straighten and shut her door. One day I will prove myself to you Princess. It's just a matter of time.
