***Marinette's POV***
Horrible dreams, that is all I know. All I remember. Someone attacked me, but I do not know why. I walk, stuck in this dream world of terror with no way out. Evil men laugh around me. Men without a face dance around me moving closer and closer. I try to scream but my voice doesn't work. Panicked I attempt to run but my feet seem glued to the ground. Where am I? How do I get out of here? Just as the men come close enough to touch me, my vision fades to white and I open my eyes. My vision is blurry and I bring my hand to wipe the tears that started to fall. I'm lying in a really big bed with a ceiling fan spinning above me. I sit up and survey the room. There is a fireplace on the wall across from me with a fire burning. The walls are a light grey color. I slowly slide out of the bed and make my way to the balcony doors. I open them and step outside. The breeze hits me and I gasp at the cold air. I head back inside and shut the doors. When I turn around a man is stroking the fire in the fireplace. I freeze and give a squeak. The man turns around after placing another log into the fire.
"Princess!" he says with a smile. "You're awake!" I stare at him. Princess? Does he know me? He must see the confusion on my face because he frowns. "Marinette, are you alright?" That's my name? Marinette? I shake my head.
"Who are you?" I ask. "Where am I? Why did you call me Princess? What happened" I fire questions at him hoping he will know what is going on. His frown deepens.
"You don't know who I am?" he asks back. I shake my head again.
"No," I respond. "Should I?" His eyes widen and he gapes at me. I feel self-conscious and shrink back a little and hug myself. He notices and shuts his mouth.
"Ah," he starts. "I apologize. I did not realize that you lost your memory." Wait, what? What happened? "I will explain everything in just a moment but first you might want to sit down." My pulse starts racing and I suddenly feel very afraid of what he is about to tell me.
"Okay," I say as I make my way back over to the bed to sit down. He walks over with me and sits at the other end of the bed.
"It would probably be easiest to answer your questions first and then fill in the blanks," he says after a moment. He looks at me and suddenly becomes very upset. "You are in the royal palace. As to why you are in the royal palace, you are the crown princess and you live here. In regards to what happened, you were attacked here in the palace but I managed to save you before your powers and very life was drained out of you." My eyes widen. Me, a Princess? And wait, he said attack? That's why I can't remember anything? I must have said that out loud because he smiles sadly. "Yes, Princess. You are an actual princess and yes, you were attacked. Why? I do not know. I was hoping you could tell me but it seems that until we get your memories back that will remain unseen." I nod at his words and stay quiet. "To answer why I call you princess, well, you are one but that is not why I call you that. I call you that because it is my nickname for you and has been for years. As to who I am, My name is Prince Adrien Agreste and I am your fiancé.
***Adrien's POV***
As soon as I say that last sentence she freezes and her eyes widen again. I know this is so much for her to know but I need her to remember. I have to know why that man attacked her so I can make sure it doesn't happen again. I know that she will not even think about letting me stay in her room to protect her from future attacks. Well, at least the old Mari would never. But maybe now that she doesn't remember our past, she will let me protect her.
"What?" she asks quietly. She does not look alarmed like I thought she would have. That is definitely a good sign.
"My name is Adrien and I am your fiancé. Your parents arranged the marriage alliance between our two kingdoms and I came here to get to know you better and for you to get to know me better. I have a preceding reputation that is completely false and unfortunately, it has caused many issues in the past. I would like to tell you that my intentions are pure and I would never do anything to harm you." She nods and takes the information rather well considering her reaction the first time that did not go so well.
"How will I…" she trails off. I smile and grab her hand scooting closer to her.
"If you want me to, I can stay in this room with you to help make sure that you are safe," I tell her. "Even at night, if you wish but I promise I won't do anything without your permission. We will need to unlock your powers again to make sure that you can use them to protect yourself." Her eyes become unfocused as she takes in the information. I am not sure what to think but I don't want to bring her back to reality if she is remembering something. Her gaze refocuses and snaps to mine.
"Are we," she begins quietly. "Are we soulmates?" Did she remember something?
"Uh, well," I start scratching the back of my neck awkwardly.
"We are?" She questions a little louder than before.
"Honestly Princess, I don't truly know. The only way to know for sure is to show each other our powers. They will always be opposites and since we both are royalty, we will both have two different powers. I do not know what powers you have, so I am unable to confirm or even deny if we are." I lower my head. "I'm sorry" She squeezes my hand.
"That's okay," she says. "How do we go about unlocking my powers?"
"Well Princess," I smirk. "We can try what made my powers unlock for me. But I warn you, you might not like it." She closes her eyes in contemplation.
"Let's do it," she says. "How bad can it be?" I grin and pull her towards me as I stand.
"Let the fun begin," I laugh.
