Here's the first chapter of the major rewrite of The Gray Order, formerly known as Gray Jedi Knights of the Republic. I'll be starting at episode one then go straight to Clone Wars. I'll be having the same original characters, just different origins. Hope you like it because I'm pretty excited about what I plan to do with this. No matter what, this'll be my longest story.

I own only my original characters, nothing else.

Naboo

The peaceful planet of Naboo is in danger. The Trade Federation has blockaded the planet with several Lucrehulk-class droid ships, no one could enter and no one could leave.

In other words, Cato Pax and his mother, Amelia, were trapped on the planet until further notice.

Cato was seven years of age, with slightly long brown hair and blue eyes, and he wore grey robe like clothing. Amelia wore similar but more fitting clothing, but white and sleeveless. She had long black hair, wrapped in a ponytail and violet eyes, six feet tall, very beautiful, and wore a brown cloak as well. On her person was a silver and gray lightsaber, (look up lightsaber hilt on sketchfab). There was however, a third person with them. A three year old girl with long black hair and blue eyes, wearing clothing similar to Cato's. This was Sofi Pax, Cato's younger sister. Sofi was napping at the moment in the bed in their room.

"We can't go anywhere. Can we, Mother?," Cato asked.

"No," she answered as they stood on a balcony of the royal palace. "I'm afraid we can't. Not until the queen can deal with the Trade Federation."

"How long will that take?"

"...I don't know."

"Master Pax?," a man behind them said.

She turned to see that it was the captain of the guard, Panaka.

"Yes, Captain?"

"The queen has requested your presence in the throne room. She wishes to know your opinion on a matter."

"...Very well. R9, keep an eye on Cato and Sofi, please."

The blue and black astromech droid then came over and whistled.

"Sweetie, I have to go for a little bit. You stay here and be good for R9, okay?," Amelia said and Cato slowly nodded.

"Okay," he said.

"Be sure to play with your sister when she wakes up. She likes spending time with you."

"I will, mother. I promise."

Amelia smiles at this and plants a kiss on her son's forehead and walked over and did the same on her daughter's forehead before leaving with the captain and Cato once again looked up into the bright sky, knowing the blockade fleet was still there. But then he felt something, something familiar. He couldn't figure it out, but somehow he knew that he'd find out soon.

In the throne room, Queen Amidala of Naboo sat at the head of a council meeting as Amelia arrived and sat in the guest member chair.

"Thank you for joining us, Master Pax," the queen said.

"Of course, your Highness. What seems to be the problem?"

"Chancellor Valorum has sent two ambassadors to negotiate with Viceroy Gunray of the Trade Federation," Governor Bibble answered. "However, they should have been here by now."

"Have you contacted the Viceroy to see if they've arrived yet?"

"Yes, but they denied any knowledge of any ambassadors," Panaka said. "We are contacting Senator Palpatine on Coruscant now."

"Who are the ambassadors, anyway?," the queen asked. "Do we know?"

"Unfortunately, no, your Highness."

"...Members of the Jedi Order," Amelia said. "Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"Jedi? Why would the Chancellor send them?"

"Likely to ensure negotiations actually happen and go smoothly. Master Qui-Gon can be persuasive, when he wants to be."

Then appeared a hologram of a thin, kindly looking man in nice clothing, and Amelia gave a small sigh of disgust.

"Greetings, Senator Palpatine."

"Greetings, your Majesty," the senator said, and he turned to see Amelia. "Hello to as well, Amelia, my dear. How are your children?"

"...Senator," she said quietly. "They're doing fine."

"I believe we should get straight to business, how may I be of service to you, Queen Amidala?"

"No contact has come from the Chancellor's ambassadors, and the Viceroy denies any knowledge of them at all."

"How could that be true? I have assurances from the Chancellor... his ambassadors did arrive. It must be the... get... negotiate...," he said but his picture and signal began to sputter and then faded away entirely.

"Senator Palpatine?!," the queen exclaimed, then turned to her captain. "What's happened?"

"Check the transmission generators," Panaka commanded his sergeant, who immediately does so.

"A malfunction?," Bibble guessed.

"It could be the Federation jamming us, your Highness."

"That can only mean one thing," Amelia said. "Invasion."

"Let us not jump to conclusions, Master Pax. The Federation would not dare go that far."

"The Senate would revoke their trade franchise, and they'd be finished," Panaka explained.

"We must continue to rely on negotiation," Queen Amidala said.

"Negotiation? We've lost all communications! And where are the Chancellor's ambassadors?"

"...This is a dangerous situation, your Highness," Panaka said. "Our security volunteers will be no match against a battle-hardened Federation army."

"If it comes to that, I will do what I can, your Highness. But I am a mother of two, and I cannot endanger my children, and neither can I single-handedly take down vast armies of battle droids."

"...I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war."

"Then what shall we do in the meantime, your Majesty?," Bibble asked.

"Hope for the best, and plan for the worst is all we can really do, governor. Captain, should invasion come, have your men be as ready as they can be."

"Yes, your Highness."

"This council is adjourned for now," the queen said and a few moments later, the council began to leave. "Master Pax?"

"Yes, your Majesty?," she asked, stopping at the door.

"I'd like to speak with you for a moment, if you don't mind."

"Of course not, your Highness."

The two then walked over to the window, looking out at the city around the palace.

"How are your children fairing, really?"

"Rather well, all things considered. Sofi is much too young to understand what is going on, but Cato, I think he understands what's happening better than other children his age would."

"Really?," she asked and Amelia nodded. "What about these Jedi? Do you know them?"

"...I know Master Qui-Gon," she answered after a moment. "He and I grew up in the Jedi Temple together. We were good friends. I had met his Padawan, Obi-Wan, once or twice, but that's about it."

"This is good to hear. Master Pax, I have no children, so I will not attempt to tell you what you should do with your son and daughter. But even if there is a fraction of a chance the Trade Federation will invade, I just might need you to fight. That being said, I give you my word that I shall ensure your children's safety."

"...Thank you, your Majesty. That is... comforting. Truly. And I give you my word that I will do all that I can, as I've said before. And I'm sure that Senator Palpatine will do all he can on Coruscant."

"Do you not like the senator?"

"It's more of not being able to bring myself to trust him," she answered.

"I see," the queen stated. "It will not be a problem, correct?"

"No, your Majesty. No, it will not."

Cato was now practicing with the Force when R9 came over to him.

"Hey, R9," Cato said and the droid whistled in response. "Nothing much, just practicing. Is Sofi awake yet?"

The droid whistled and Cato put everything away. They both headed back inside to find his little sister stretching, yawning while she did so.

"Hey, sleepyhead," Cato said, jumping up on the bed to sit next to her. "How did you sleep?"

"Okay," Sofi answered tiredly. "Where's Mama?"

"The queen wanted to see her," Cato said. "Hey, you wanna try out that trick again?"

She was now wide awake and nodded excitedly. Cato quickly looked around for something safe to practice with. Soon, he finds a hairbrush and brings it back to the bed.

"Okay. This is how Mother taught me. Clear your thoughts, feel the Force around you, around the brush, and lift it."

She did so and raised her hand at the brush. Slowly, but surely, the brush began to shake slightly and soon enough... Sofi was lifting it off the bed a couple of inches.

"You're doing it, Sofi!!," Cato yelled excitedly, but this surprised Sofi a little and she accidentally flung the brush towards the door, right as Amelia returned.

Thankfully, she saw it coming and used the Force to stop it.

"I see you two are having fun," she joked, and kissed both of their foreheads.

"Did you meet the queen, Mama?," Sofi asked.

"I did."

"What did she want?," Cato asked.

"It's not important right now. Right now, we all need to get some lunch,"she answered and picked Sofi up in her arms and grabbed Cato's hand. "Come on, R9."

The droid whistled and quickly followed them. They went down to the kitchen and the cooks prepared them something for lunch. They thanked them and returned to their room and ate their lunch together.

"Mother, I was looking at some of the books you have."

"Cato, I thought I said not to look at those without asking."

"I know, but I couldn't help it," he said and she sighed slightly.

"What did you find?," she asked.

"Something about people called... the Sith. Who are the Sith?"

"...The Sith have been gone for a thousand years. They were Force users like us all, but they only used the dark side."

"But the dark side is bad!!," Sofi exclaimed.

"They were bad people. They were the opposite of the Jedi. Their greatest enemy. At first, there were as many of them as there were Jedi, but they were always fighting each other, trying to rule one another. Then one Sith Lord, Darth Bane, created what was known as the Rule of Two."

"Only two Sith?," Cato guessed.

"That's right. A master and an apprentice. No more, no less," Amelia finished and she placed a hand on her son's face. "I don't want you to look into those without me again, Cato. I will tell you one day, but not yet. Same with you Sofi. Understand?"

"...Okay, Mother/Mama," Cato and Sofi said.

"Good. Come here, you two," she said and pulled them into a hug. "Oh! I love you both so much."

"We love you too, Mother," Cato said, then a guard came in.

"Ma'am, the Trade Federation has invaded," he said and Amelia's eyes widened.

She quickly picked her children up and followed the guard to the queen.

"Your Majesty," she said and the young monarch didn't look at her and watched as AAT tanks and multi-troop transports came into the city and battle droids took over the city of Theed.

In Theed Plaza, Federation ship landed and the Neimodians, Viceroy Nute Gunray and his lieutenant, Rune Haako, walked off as a group of battle droids greeted them. Then the battle droid commander, different from the others only from the yellow paint job he had, approached them.

'Viceroy, we have captured the queen,' he informed them.

"Ah, victory!!," Gunray exclaimed, and the droid led them to the palace.

'One other thing. A Jedi has also been captured in the palace. Female, with two children. Boy and girl. We were able to force her to surrender by apprehending the children.'

"A third Jedi?!!," Rune exclaimed. "And why does she have children with her?"

"I don't know, but we will find out. Lead on, commander."

'Yes, sir.'

"Are Jedi even allowed to have children?"

"I don't believe so," the Viceroy answered. "Perhaps she is former Jedi? We'll just have to see and then report it to Lord Sidious."

When the Viceroy arrived at the palace, they had Queen Amidala, Amelia and her children, Governor Bibble abd five of the queen's handmaidens. Captain Panaka was also captured along with four of his men. They were all surrounded by several battle droids and held at gunpoint. Cato held a frightened Sofi as they were separated from their mother and held gunpoint as well. R9 followed behind them all.

"How will you explain this invasion to the Senate?," Bibble asked.

"The queen and I will sign a treaty that will legitimize our occupation here," the viceroy explained. "I've assurance that it will be ratified by the Senate."

"I will not cooperate," the queen stated.

"Now, now, your Highness. In time, the suffering of your people will persuade you to our point of view. Commander."

'Yes, Viceroy?,' the droid commander asked.

"Process them."

'Captain, take them to Camp 4.'

'Roger, roger,' the droid said and led the people on.

"Such a pity that your Jedi protecter had to bring her children into this mess," Gunray said, and Amelia simply glared at him.

"Make any mention of my children again, and I'll separate your head from your body," Amelia threatened.

"Ooh... normally that would terrify me. However, we have insurance to make sure that you will not do that. Step out of line again, and one of your children will killed."

She glared again, but said nothing and continued moving, leaving the viceroy to smirk at this.

They slowly move towards the detention camp, moving past the plaza, which is now full of tanks and battle droids.

As they moved, Amelia sensed a presence, one she hadn't felt in a some time. Cato soon began to feel it as well, and he looked to his mother, who looked at him and gestures him to be silent, which he quickly complied to.

Amelia quickly looked around her and saw that the battle droid to her right was the one that carried her lightsaber. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, preparing for what was to come.

Then from above came down two men in similar clothing as her, but white and brown cloaks. They pulled out lightsabers, the older one having a green one and younger had a blue one. After they jumped, a third, amphibian like creature jumped down and barely landed on his feet. Amelia turned right and Force pulled her lightsaber to her hand, activating its white blade immediately and cut down the droid that was holding it. The other lightsaber wielded began cutting down the droids. Cato then saw two droids attempting to sneak up on the older man so he placed Sofi on the ground and did his best to Force push them away, and it worked. The man looked at the for a moment before deactivating his lightsaber and turned his attention to the queen as Amelia and the other man dealt with the rest of the droids before putting their own blades away as well.

"We should leave the streets, your Highness," the older man said, and they all nodded.

"Get their weapons," Captain Panaka ordered his men and they did so as Amelia walked up to the men.

"Hello, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan" she said and then hugged both of her children.

"...Amelia? What are you doing here?"

"I'll explain later. We need to get moving. Come on Cato. Padawan Kenobi, will you please carry my daughter?"

"Oh, of course," Obi-Wan said and then picked Sofi up into his arms and she picked Cato up.

"Are you Jedi, sir?," Sofi asked, still rather frightened because of everything that was going on.

"That we are, my dear."

"And what's that?," she asked, pointing to the person with the Jedi.

"Whoa... yousa guys bombad!!," he said.

"A Gungan. A strange one at that."

They ran over behind a nearby building and hid behind it.

"We're ambassadors for the Supreme Chancellor."

"Your negotiations seem to have failed, Ambassador," Bibble said.

"The negotiations never took place," Qui-Gon explained. "It's urgent that we make contact with the Republic."

"They've knocked out all of our communications," Panaka said.

"Do you have transports?"

"In the main hanger. This way."

He quickly led them through the streets and to the main hanger, where a cruiser was parked in, but the hanger itself was full of battle droids.

"There are too many of them."

"That won't be a problem," he said and looked to Queen Amidala. "Your Highness, under the circumstances, I suggest you come to Coruscant with us."

"Thank you, Ambassador, but my place is with my people," the queen said.

"They will kill you if you stay."

"They wouldn't dare," Bibble said.

"They need her to sign a treaty to make this invasion of theirs legal. They can't afford to kill her," Panaka explained.

"There is something else behind all this, your Highness," Qui-Gon argued.

"I agree," Amelia said, coming to the Jedi's side. "There is no logic in the Federation's move here. My feelings tell me they will destroy you."

"Our only hope is for the Senate to side with us. Senator Palpatine will need your help."

"Either choice presents a great risk... to us all."

"We are brave, your Highness," one of her handmaidens, Padmé said.

"If you are to leave, your Highness, it must be now," Qui-Gon said.

"...Then I will plead our case to the Senate," the queen said. "Be careful, Governor."

He nodded and the Jedi and Amelia led the others into the hanger.

"We'll need to free those pilots," Panaka said, pointing to the group of pilots being held hostage by the droids.

"I'll deal with that," Obi-Wan said, handing Sofi over to one of the queen's handmaidens before walking away from the group.

'Halt,' a battle droid commander ordered, holding a hand out in front of Qui-Gon, who complied.

"I'm ambassador to the Supreme Chancellor. I'm taking these people to Coruscant."

'Where are you taking them?'

"To Coruscant," he repeated.

'Coruscant? Uh... that doesn't compute. Oh, wait, uh... you're under arrest-!!,' he said but Qui-Gon quickly sliced him in half as Amelia put Cato down next to R9 and began attacking droids as well.

Obi-Wan jumps down from above and attacks the droids surrounding the pilots. Once he'd taken them out, he turned to them.

"Go!!!," he yelled and they immediately did so, heading straight for the ship.

The three lightsaber wielders continued to protect the people until they were all on the ship. By that time, the droids were noting but pieces of scrap metal, some of them moving only a little. Qui-Gon was the last one to get on the ship as it took off, Amelia pulling him in as they left.

They were soon on their way off the planet, and towards the Trade Federation blockade.

Obi-Wan led them Gungan below deck, followed by Amelia with her children and R9.

"Now, stay here. And keep out of trouble," he said then left.

"And you two go find somewhere to sit down," Amelia said. "I'll be back as soon as I can. You're alright, right?"

"We're okay, Mother," Cato assured her.

She smiled and went in the same direction as Obi-Wan.

"You are okay, right Sofi?"

"I'm okay, Cato," she said. "You okay, Ringer?"

R9 whistled in response and the little girl hugged the droid as best she could.

"Aww. Dat's so cute. Mesa'm called Jar Jar Binks. Who are yousa duey?"

"I'm Cato Pax and this my little sister, Sofi."

"So dha tup tup, melli woman is yous mother?"

"...Huh?," the children asked, not understanding what he said so he decided to forget about it and looked around.

"Hello, boyos!!"

Immediately, several R unit droids turned and started whistling.

In the ship's cockpit, Qui-Gon, Panaka and Amelia watched as the ship left Naboo's orbit.

"There's the blockade," the main pilot, Ric Olie, said, then Obi-Wan arrived.

The Lucrehulks began to fire on them. Then suddenly, a blast hit the side of the ship.

"Shield generator has been hit!!"

All of a sudden, alarms went off around Cato, Sofi and Jar Jar. The R units began to go up, a blue and white one pushing past Jar Jar while doing so.

"How wude!!"

The droid just whistled and was sent up, outside the ship and immediately began to get to work on getting the shield generator back on. The blasts from the blockade however, kept going and kept on hitting the droids, one by one.

"We're losing droids, fast!," Obi-Wan said from the cockpit.

"If we can't get the shield generator fixed, we'll be sitting ducks," Panaka said.

Now, it was only the blue and white droid left.

"Shields are gone!"

Then, R9 appeared out of nowhere and began to help the last droid out. After a few more moments of tinkering on the generator, he got it back up and running.

"...Powers back!," Ric Olie exclaimed as the droid went back inside the ship. "That little droid did it. He bypassed the main power drive. Deflector shield up, at maximum."

With the shield back up, the ship was able to fly past the blockade and away from the Trade Federation.

"There's not enough power to get us to Coruscant... the hyperdrive is leaking."

"Must've been hit as well while the shields were being fixed," Amelia guessed.

"No matter what, we'll have to land somewhere to refuel and repair the ship," Qui-Gon said as he was studying a star chart on a monitor.

"Here, Master. Tatooine...," Obi-Wan said, as he showed him and Amelia an image of the planet. "It's small, out of the way, poor... The Trade Federation has no presence there."

"How can you be sure?," Panaka asked.

"It's controlled by the Hutts."

"You can't take Her Royal Highness there! The Hutts are gangsters!! If they discovered her-."

"It would be no different than if we landed on a system controlled by the Federation."

"Only difference is that the Hutts aren't looking for her, which gives us an advantage," Amelia added.

Captain Panaka simply sighed in frustration as the ship flew off towards their new destination, Tatooine.

"Amelia, may I have a word with you?," Qui-Gon asked.

"Of course."

The two walked out of the cockpit and to a secluded area of the ship.

"Before anything else is said, it does me good to see you again."

"You as well. I take it Obi-Wan is almost ready for the trials?"

"I believe he is ready now," he answered. "What were you doing on Naboo, if I might ask?"

"I wanted to show Cato and Sofi around their home planet," she answered. "I suppose Senator Palpatine informed the queen of our visit and she offered us a place in the palace. Then the blockade happened and we were trapped on that planet. We were there for a few weeks now."

"I see. Amelia... I must know... are they-?"

"They are," she interrupted. "I'm sorry I never told you, but I knew that there would've been nothing that you could do."

"There is nothing to apologize for. ...May I meet them?"

"Of course you can. You're their father after all, but not right now. I think they should get to know you before we say anything."

The Jedi Master simply nodded at this as Captain Panaka came over.

"Sorry to interrupt, but we need to report to the queen," he said.

"Very well, Master Qui-Gon, will you have your Padawan check on my children for me?," Amelia asked.

"Of course," he said and they both followed the captain.

Cato now sat at a table all alone, with only R9 to keep him company.

"Hello, young man," a new voice said and he looked to see that it was the Jedi Padawan from before. "My Master and your mother wanted me to check on you. Where might your sister be?"

"She went with that Gungan to explore the ship a little," he answered.

"That makes me rather nervous, Jar Jar keeping an eye on her."

"I think it's the other way around."

They both chuckled at this joke.

"I'm Cato Pax," he said.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi," the Padawan said, shaking his hand. "So your Master Pax's son."

"You know her?," he asked.

"I've met her once or twice. It's my master who knows her better. She was a Jedi once, you know?"

"Yeah, I know. She told me, and she told me that her and your master were the best of friends growing up in the Jedi Temple."

"From what I've been told, that's true. ...You alright? After everything that's happened?"

"I'm okay. I may only be seven years old, but I understand what's going on," he said.

"I see," Obi-Wan said. "I think you and I are going to get along just fine."

In a small, bright chamber, Queen Amidala sat on a chair as Captain Panaka presented the astromech droid that saved them. Alongside him were Qui-Gon Jinn and Amelia Pax.

"Two extremely well-put-together little droids, your Highness," Panaka said. "Without a doubt, they saved the ship, as well as our lives."

"They is to be commended," she said. "What are their numbers?"

"...R2-D2, your Highness."

"The other droid is mine, your Highness," Amelia said. "He is R9-S6."

"Thank you, R2-D2. You as well, R9-S6."

The droids responded with happy chirping.

"Padmé," the queen said and a handmaiden walked out from behind her. "Clean these droids up as best you can. They deserve our gratitude. Continue, Captain."

Captain Panaka then turned to the Jedi.

"Your Highness, with your permission, we're heading for a remote planet called Tatooine," Qui-Gon said. "It's in a system far beyond the reach of the Trade Federation."

"I do not agree with the Jedi on this, your Highness," Panaka stated.

"You must trust my judgement on this, your Highness."

"...What do you believe, Master Pax?"

"I believe that we do not have many options. We do not have enough power to get to Coruscant at the moment, and while Tatooine is known to be crawling with... undesirable people, they're also many shops there that sell ship parts. Perhaps one with have parts we require."

"...Very well. You have my permission. But let us make sure our stay there is limited."

"I could not agree more, your Highness," Qui-Gon said.

Some time later, Padmé began to clean R2 when a little girl went over and hugged R9.

"You were so brave, Ringer!!," Sofi exclaimed, then hugged R2. "You too."

The droids responded with happy chirping noises.

"You must be Sofi, right?," Padmé asked and she nodded. "I'm Padmé, very nice to meet you."

"You too."

"Hello!!," Jar Jar said, walking up to them.

"That's Jar Jar. He's a Gungan."

"Really? I'm Padmé. What's a Gungan doing here?"

"My no know. Mesa day starten pitty okeyday witda brisky morning munchen. Den boom!!! Getten berry scared and grabben day Jedi and pow- mesa here. Mesa getten berry berry scared."

"Sounds like you had a fun day," Sofi said.

"Mesa wouldn't spake dat. Mesa'm gonna gos explor more."

He then walked away and Sofi began to clean R9 excitedly, making Padmé chuckle at the scene in front of her.

"So where's your brother?"

"He wanted to sit down and think," she said. "He likes to think a lot."

"Well, it means there's a lot on his mind. So, what's it like having a Jedi for a mother?"

"It's very fun. Mama always makes time for us. She's very wise."

R9 then chirped something.

"What did he say?," Padmé asked.

"He said that it has been a fun day," Sofi said.

The two then laughed at this as Amelia came over and picked Sofi up from behind and hugged her, making her laugh more.

"Oh, I'm so glad you're alright," she said, kissing her daughter's cheek then put her down helped clean R9. "It's Padmé, correct?"

"Yes, Master Pax."

"Please, call me Amelia."

She nodded and they continued to work in silence.

Obi-Wan and Cato continued to talk for the longest time until the boy eventually fell asleep. Some time later Qui-Gon Jinn came by.

"Master," Obi-Wan greeted quietly as Cato laid down on a bunk, sleeping.

"Obi-Wan. How is he?," he asked.

"He fell asleep a few moments ago. Talked for the longest time, mostly about the Jedi."

"Really?"

"Yes. Seems to admire our order very much," he said.

"Makes sense considering his mother was one of us once."

"Forgive me, Master, but... why was Amelia Pax banished from the order?"

"...She formed an attachment with someone. Fell in love with them," he answered, after a moment. "You go ahead and get some rest, my young Padawan. I'll keep an eye on him."

"Yes, Master," Obi-Wan said and left to do just that.

Once he was out of sight, Qui-Gon walked over to Cato and sat down next to him and just looked at him for the longest time.

"...My son..."

Hope you liked this. This'll go through all of the prequels until Revenge of the Sith and it'll also go through Clone Wars. Sorry if you don't like what I'm doing with the story, but this has been an idea I've had and been modifying in my head since I first started to write fanfiction. Until the next chapter is up, May the Fourth be with you.
