Beck: The Great Ping Pong Scam

One time each year Beck went clothes shopping with Jade. Normally his girlfriend went with Cat or her mom, but for their special dinner they had decided a year ago that they would buy their clothes for it together. Despite hating when people told her what to do Jade and Beck had agreed that only this time of the year he was allowed to choose her clothes for her. Now they stood in front of a huge range of different dresses and Beck was looking for the perfect one for their dinner.

Just to tease Jade he picked out a bright pink dress that would have made Cat jump up and down in joy. His girlfriend however seemed only annoyed when he hold it in front of her to see how she would look in it. Of course he was only teasing her. He knew how much she hated pink or overly bright colors. Even though Jade had agreed to wear whatever he would chose for her, he still wanted her to like it as well. This deal was made a year ago out of a bet that Jade had lost and Beck still had to smile at the memories of her angry face when he had told her that he won.

After a lot of searching he came across a beautiful violet dress and gave it to her so she could try it on. She looked at it critically and rolled her eyes, before she spoke up.

"At least it isn't completely awful."

Beck knew that this was her way of saying that she actually liked it, so he smiled at her before she entered the changing room. Waiting patiently he remembered how it had begun that they even got to eat at such an expensive restaurant once a year. Jade's idea to make a fake ping pong team was one of the best ideas she ever had. It had not only saved their principal's job, but they all got to enjoy the amazing food. He was pulled out of his thoughts when Jade exited the changing room and raised an eyebrow at him to comment on how she looked in the dress.

"It's perfect. You look beautiful." He complimented her and saw a small blush on her face.

It was rare that he got this reaction out of her, especially when they were in public, which made it all the better. With a mumbled 'sap' she quickly reentered the changing room and Beck smile slightly. Even after being together for so long he still loved her deeply if not even more.

They bought him a matching shirt and tie before Jade demanded that he should buy her coffee. Together they sat down in a small cafe and enjoyed the rest of the day. Peaceful moments like this were rare with their group around, especially when they spent so much time together during their fake preparations for a fake ping pong tournament. With Tori in the team Jade wasn't as relax as she had been before, so Beck liked that they got today to themselves.

The next day in the restaurant Beck was overcome with memories of the first time they all came here. Back then Jade and him had only been friends, but he had already realized his feeling for her. Jade had been stubborn and had refused all his invitations to dates, despite that he could see that she was feeling more than friendship for him as well. Two years ago he hadn't known the reason for her hesitation, but now he knew that Jade had refused him so many times because she had been scared of getting hurt. Back then the marriage of Jade's parents had been falling apart and she had witnessed first hand how much could go wrong when you let someone so close to you. She had told him about this fear when her parents had gotten a divorce a year later and from then on he had understood her even better.

This restaurant held a special meaning because here she had finally said that she would give whatever this was between them a chance and she had finally agreed to go on a date with him. He could still remember her hesitation and the blush that had followed when he had embraced her and had told her that he wouldn't disappoint her. They had sat rather close the whole evening and had talked quietly to each other. It was then that Beck had been sure that she was the one.

Now, over two years later, not much had changed in that matter. He was still sure that she was meant to be by his side and he loved her. What did however change was that he knew now that she loved him as well and he could officially call her his girlfriend.

Jade: The Great Ping Pong Scam

Jade had to smile when Beck pulled out the chair for her. He was really a sap, but today was the only day she would let it slide. This place meant so much to them that she couldn't help but be happy. At least until the check came and they couldn't pay it. Tori's idea didn't help her mood either, because now she was the one in a ping pong outfit while everyone else was dressed fancy. The only good thing that came out of it was, that if Tori and Andre would sing a few more songs the owner of the restaurant wouldn't call the police on them and they would have still enough money to buy a fake trophy.

During the second song, undoubtedly another ballad Andre had written, she was pulled out of her thoughts when an old couple stood up and danced slowly to the music. Jade smiled at the display of affection. Two people who seemed to still love each other after being together for a small decade. It touched her heart deeply. She was never a romantic and when her parents had announced their divorce to her and her brother, she had completely lost faith that there was something like true love. Beck had been the one who made her believe in love again. He had shown her that love didn't make her vulnerable but so much stronger than she already was before. Maybe she interpreted too much into the old couple, but she could see the same connection between them that she saw in the pictures that people took of her and Beck. The way they looked at each other with still so much love, after probably been married for so long, was just beautiful.

Shaking her head Jade tried to get rid of her thoughts. This restaurant and Andre's admittedly great love song must have this weird effect on her. When she was about to lock her emotions back inside she felt Beck's arm around her pull her closer.

"That's us when we're old."

Beck must have seen her looking at the couple. His words made her heart race and she turned slightly to meet her boyfriend's eyes, only to see honesty and love shine in them. She couldn't help but lean in and kiss him softly. When they pulled away she lay her head on his shoulder, content with how the evening had turned out despite a few difficulties.

When the next song began and Beck pulled away and got up Jade looked confused at her boyfriend.

"Dance with me?" He smiled at her and held out his hand for her to take.

"Beck no, I'm wearing a ping pong outfit." Jade protested. Not that she cared what anyone would think but she didn't feel comfortable dancing in a ping pong outfit with just one other couple dancing.

"You look beautiful no matter what you wear, even in a ping pong outfit." When he saw her hesitant he added. "Please."

During the years they were already together she had never been able to resist him when he was looking at her like this and speaking so lovingly to her and today wasn't an exception. That was how she found herself in the middle of a restaurant with fancy dressed people, Tori Vega in her dress and her dancing with her boyfriend in a ping pong outfit. Had someone told her this morning that this was how her day would end, she would have called them crazy, but here she was. To her surprise she was enjoying it. In the beginning she felt uneasy with all eyes on them and especially on her because she was wearing a weird outfit in a fancy restaurant, but when Beck pulled her closer and told her to focus only on them she forgot the others.

Dancing with Beck was something that she loved since they had started taking that salsa class together a few weeks ago. Something about being so close to each other and moving together in a rhythm was very intimate and sharing it with Beck was even better.

When Andre played a faster song they saw the old couple sit back down and for a moment her eyes met the ones of the older woman. A silent conversation seemed to take part between them and even though Jade couldn't exactly tell what they were trying to tell each other there was the realization that both of them experienced true love with a special man. When Jade broke the eye contact with the old woman, she saw that Beck was looking at the old man. Maybe they had shared a silent conversation as well. A moment later Beck turned back to her and smiled lovingly at her before pulling her closer and whispering an 'I love you' in her ear.

The evening surely had turned out different than she had expected. She had hoped for a peaceful evening with her boyfriend and her somewhat friends, but then this happened and she couldn't even complain about it. Dancing with Beck in a ping pong outfit in the middle of a fancy restaurant, she felt completely loved and didn't want this evening to end. This was as close to perfect as it could get.
