"You guys are worthless!" Luke kicks his team members. "I will finish him myself. If we can't get the kids, then killing you will please Masaya." Gintoki glares at him. "Who the fuck is Masaya?"
"You'll find out. If you live." Luke dashes towards Gintoki. Both of their swords clash with each other creating sparks. As their weapons push back and forth, you can see in their eyes that they detest each other. When they backed up, Luke dragged his sword, swinging it toward Gintoki's face. He blocks his attack. "Sonata can't hide forever. Once we get our hands on her, you'll never see her again."
"You think I'm going to let you put your hands on her?" Luke smile. "I wasn't asking for your permission!" Gintoki swung his sword to the side, cutting Luke in the chest. He backs up and looks at his wound. "SHIT!" He ran towards Gintoki, then jumped up, slicing down on his shoulder. Gintoki backs up, holding his gash. Luke laughs at him while twirling his sword. He ignores the pain, then attacks Luke. Gin moved his sword to the side. He swung up, slicing Luke across his chest. He falls to the ground down in extreme pain. He tries to get up, but he falls to the ground. Gintoki picks him up by the neck.
"Tell your fucking Boss, Masaya. I am one motherfucker. He does NOT! Want to FUCK-WITH! Do you got that?! If he wants, Sonata, tell him to come and get her. I will be waiting for him." Gintoki drops Luke on the ground. He yells when he steps on his wound. Breathing heavily, Gintoki walks to the park. He looks around to see Katsura holding the cranky twins. "Zura." Katsura ready his weapon, then stopped when it was only Gintoki. He stares at him. "It's not Zura. It's Katsura. You look like someone dragged you around. Tell me the other guy got it worse." Gintoki fell to the ground next to him. "He won't be fighting anymore. If he doesn't bleed out." The twins begin to cry. Gintoki sat up, then picked up his kids. He held them in his arms. "It's okay. I'm right here." Gintoki kisses them on the forehead. "I will never let anyone take you from me. I have to get them home." He thought for a minute. "Home... Sonata. She knows something." He stood up. "What is going on, Gintoki?" Katsura asked. "Not now. I will let you know soon. Thanks for watching them, Zura."
"It's not Zura. It's Katsura."
Gintoki runs home. Sonata sits on the couch while looking at her watch. Gintoki has been gone with the kids for three hours. She is scared and worried. She heard the door open, then close shut. She jumped up, then ran to the door. "Gintoki what happen? It's been hours since you left." She stares at him closely. He looks exhausted, and his shoulder is wounded. "What the hell happen to you?"
"What happened? Luke is what happened!" Her eyes widen with fear. "L-Luke?" He nods. "Yeah, Luke!" Gin sat the twins on the couch. "The fucking guy that attacked you that day! I know you remember! He tried to kidnap our children." Sonata sat next to them and held her twins. "Holy shit, are they alright?" She checks for bruises and cuts. "They're fine. I made sure they were, but you won't be." She stares at him, then looks away. "You know something, and you better tell me. I want to know everything! Leave nothing out! When I ask you a question, you better not lie." Sonata nods. "Okay, Gintoki. I will tell you everything you need to know. After tending to our kids."
After the twin's bath, Sonata made their dinner, then put them asleep for the night. She sat next to Gintoki and began cleaning his wounds. "Ouch! Seriously, Sonata?" He hissed. "I have to disinfect it. She looks closer at the gash. Gintoki, you might have to go to the hospital for stitches." He scoffed. "Luke's injury is worse." He looks at her. "Start talking." She nods. "Right, my past."
"Leave nothing out." She sighs, then begins. "A couple of years ago, I used to work for an organization that collects information." He looks at her. "What kind of information?" She grabs more bandages. "Illegal information. I was a spy." He looks at her. "A spy?" She nods. "Yes. It was my job to get information no matter what. They trained me to eavesdrop on conversations and trick people into telling me what I needed to know. I disguised myself as someone else and stole information. After completing my mission, I will report back to my boss."
"Wait, how do you steal information?"
"I would sneak in unnoticed. I am flexible. I can fit into small places to avoid getting caught." He nods. "Once I completed the training. I did solo missions. Then I was assigned to a team. We travel to collect data. One day our boss told us that we had our separate mission. I found it odd, but I didn't question it or say anything. Some missions require special skills. Then it happened. My teammates started dying on their solo missions."
"What do you mean?"
"It was always something happening on their mission. Either they fucked up, or something was waiting for them. Like they were set up. Five of them were found dead on their missions." Gin turns to her. "That doesn't sound right."
"It didn't. I questioned my superiors about their death. They responded by saying my team did their mission wrong. I knew they were lying. They trained us well. Nothing like this happened until the solo missions started. I tried to investigate, but they kept me busy and denied me access to the mission reports. I couldn't get involved even if I wanted to. That right there was a red flag. As time passed, it was my turn for a mission. I was ready, but I kept my guard up. My mission was to steal this secret document located in the back room. When I got there, there were no guards outside, but there were cameras. I snuck in through the rooftop, then jumped down into the building. I looked around and felt something was wrong. There was no security in sight. None, walking around either. But again, there were cameras everywhere."
"That was a big red flag. You should've left, Sonata."
"I know, but the mission was more important. My boss during that time did not tolerate failure. So I stayed. As I moved along the building, I avoided the cameras just in case someone was watching. I made it to the door, then hesitated to open it. Something in the back of my mind was telling me no. I ignored my mind again. Once I opened it, I saw a timer counting down from four. Feeling stupid, it took me two seconds to realize it was a bomb. I tried to run, but I was too slow. The place blew up, knocking me through the wall. The impact broke my leg and arm. And I and a long gash on the side of my stomach. I thought I was going to bleed to death. I did not know what to do. So I started crawling, hoping someone would help me. After that, I can only remember waking up at a hospital. I was so stupid. I ignored my suspicions. I didn't think that my job wanted to eliminate us."
"You had no idea."
"No, they sent us on a suicide mission we knew nothing about." He shook his head. "But why? Why did they want you dead?" She hunched her shoulders. "I don't know. What I think is, when you are a spy. You know too much. I was stealing info that could send me to prison for a long time. I guess my boss didn't trust us anymore. He must have thought I was a threat to him."
"That doesn't give him a right to kill you. He could have fired you if he didn't need you anymore."
"Spies know a lot. And when you know too much, you become a threat. He did not trust us anymore."
"Who is he?"
"Masaya. My former boss. The one that wants me dead." Sonata lowers her head, feeling ashamed. "I apologize, Gintoki. I'm sorry I kept this from you." He shakes his head. "No, you're not." He stood up. "You should have told me about this! You lied to me about the attack and your life! You knew who Luke was, and you knew what was going on! You had our kids in danger, and you didn't care!"
"You are wrong, Gintoki! I do care! I love my babies! How could you say that!?" Tears ran down her face. "You should have kept this a secret! You should've told me, Sonata! I could have protected them and you no matter what! They were after you this whole time! That is why you wanted to leave Edo before the twins were born. You knew they were coming for you." She nods to him. "Yes, before I got pregnant. I was planning to leave Edo. That is why I kept my pregnancy a secret. I tried to hide it from my sister, but she knew. I didn't know what to do. Time was running out, and Luke was closing in on me. I had to go, but you stopped me. I had them thinking I was dead for a long time. Somehow they knew I wasn't. Please forgive me, Gintoki. Please."
He shook his head. "I will forgive you for not telling me you were pregnant. But you knew that Luke was after you for a long time. I can't overlook this Sonata. How can I trust you when you are keeping secrets from me?!"
"You can trust me!"
"No, I can't! Not when my kids are in danger." Gintoki walks away from her and goes into the kid's room. "Gin... Please wait." He ignores her, then shuts the door behind him. Sonata sits back down on the couch, then starts crying. Gintoki did a long sigh, then walked over to the twins. He can not believe Sonata. His children are sound asleep as they move around in their cribs. He has to protect them no matter what.
