Chapter 16: Jenner
He's a doctor.
He saves lives.
He works for the CDC.
He's a hero.
He should be a hero.
However, the virus spares no one.
Not even the ones he loved the most.
"Candice!" He cries.
Not his wife, not her, why, why, why?
He was unable to hear her.
"No, I can't."
She pleads him to do it, for science. Then everyone will understand what caused the virus.
So he does it.
He lets Candice, his only light and hope, die.
Then he pulls the trigger after documenting science in motion.
Why are these people still alive? It must be some kind of ironic miracle that they are looking tp him for salvation.
He's going to save them all.
Why don't they want his help?
There's nothing left out there to fight for.
Everything ended for him when she died.
That's why he chooses to leave Rick with these parting words.
"The time will come when you won't be."
When you won't be happy you said no to my offer of mercy.
He lets them leave on their suicide mission and dies.
At least he isn't alone at the end.
