Chapter 19: The Vatos Gang
They didn't meet their end gently.
One person after another kept dying despite their best efforts. The old people they tried so desperately to care for kept dying and came back as walkers. One after another, every person who cared for them had died.
By the time the Governor and his men arrived, very few of the men were left alive, except for a few hardened survivors. One was named Shumpert.
"You worked here?" The man, a tall brunette asked, his gruff voice practically an order.
"Yes, sir." He said quietly.
"Then biters got to everyone, didn't they? Biters eat the weak and if ya aren't strong, ya die." It sss an honest observation, and honestly one Shumpert had been thinking himself.
"This is Juan." He pointed to the other man who was silent. The other three who were beside him, stood up and introduced themselves.
"The name is Governor. People call me the Governor. You boys looking for a town? I have it. It's like civilization. People, food, water, even lights."
It was a tempting offer.
"We'll take you up on it." Shumpert said, and shook hands with the man.
He watched in horror as the man he'd once respected gunned down his friends and neighbors like they were nothing.
He silently got in the car with the man and ignored him as much as possible. His contempt for the man had grown.
He deserted him with Caesar.
He hoped that man burned.
'I'm sorry, everyone. I'm sorry I failed you all.' In his mind, images of the Vatos and of his family appeared as the walkers closed in on him.
