In the morning, I went to the old farmhouse because there was something that I needed there. Yes, being there brought back all kinds of bad memories, but the thing that I was going to get there was important. There were only two places in town to get it and the other one was in the boarding house. I didn't have a lot of time because I still needed to get to school. I began to mix it quickly before I headed to the school. I hoped that she would appreciate what I was doing for her. Things would be interesting.
"Mary." I greeted her. It was going to be her first day of school as a girl. She was probably nervous. The good news was that people already didn't think that highly of her.
"Where'd you go this morning?" She asked. "I was hoping that we could come together."
If I had been more perverted, I would have said or done inappropriate there. At that point, she blushed.
"Come to school. Come to school." She corrected.
"I'm sorry. I had to go somewhere to get something for you." I told her as I handed the bottle that was in my bag.
"You got me water?" She questioned in confusion.
"It's not just water. It's vervain water." I explained. "It's same stuff that's in your bracelet."
"It protects me from compulsion, right?" She inquired.
"Yes. Vervain is poisonous to vampires. Not lethal poisonous, but more like burns and overexposure causes loss of consciousness." I stated.
"Why is vervain?" She responded.
"Legend has it, it was enchanted by a witch." I declared.
"So do stakes to the heart work?" She asked.
"Only if they're wooden." I answered.
"You know you're pretty confident in telling me all of the ways I can kill you." She remarked.
"Yeah, but then you wouldn't have any friends." I replied with a grin. "Besides, I know you don't want to kill me."
"You're right. Damon is the one who deserves it." She responded.
"Look, I know what Damon did to you is bad, probably even forgivable, but you need to let it go.' I told her.
"How can I forget about him? He literally killed me?" Mary asked.
"Well right now we have a distraction from your sister the dictator." I replied as the latter walked up next to me. I gave her a kiss on the lips.
"Hey, did you…." Elena started before Mary cut her off.
"Yeah, yeah. I set up the goldfish toss. It's going to be epic." Mary replied before she walked away. Elena sighed and leaned back against the lockers.
"She'll be fine. She's a little shaken up, but I think she really is happier now." I said.
"I was just hoping that this carnival would make things better." She stated.
"The carnival won't help at all. Though, we might need to ask Bonnie about a spell." I replied.
"Is there a spell to change someone's sex like that?" She asked.
"I know there is because I've used it before." I replied.
"Wait, what?" She responded.
"I was a witch a very long time ago." I replied. "I got it from my dad."
"You know you've never talked about your life before you were a vampire." She commented.
"It's just a blip in my life. I didn't meet my father until he turned me and my mother and I haven't really seen him in a long time." I explained. "The point is that there might be a spell in Emily's grimoire to change Mary's physical gender to match the one that she is inside."
"Can we not do it today? Can we just be boring high school students for today?" She requested.
"I just want to know if it's there. I don't suggest casting a spell like that yet." I replied. "And yes, we can be regular high school girls for today as long as. K…"
"Don't say her name." She cut me off.
"My ex doesn't show up." I finished.
"And we can also kiss on top of the Ferris Wheel." She added.
"Um, this is kind of embarrassing, but I'm afraid of heights. I can't handle them." I replied.
"You're kidding, right?" She asked.
"I know that it's silly because falling won't kill me, but I still don't like high places." I said. "But if you really want to go on the Ferris Wheel, I will.'
"No, you don't have to for me." She stated. "I do have one question for you. Were you ever a cheerleader?"
"This is the first high school that I've ever attended." I replied.
"It looks like we're going to have to change that then." She said with a big smile.
"Oh, no, you are not getting me to get me to wave around those pom-poms." I told her.
"Please?" She begged.
"You're not even on the cheerleading squad." I pointed out. "It's not happening."
That night, I decided to get changed for the carnival. I wore a black sweater with some red shorts and one black and one navy knee sock and black heels.
I went to find Elena as soon as I got there. However, before I got there, I found Mary talking to Damon.
"Hello, Jeremy. You look different." He said.
"My name is Mary." She corrected in annoyance. To be fair, we hadn't actually told him about her new name. "Aren't you too old to be hanging around a high school carnival?"
"Yes, completely." Damon told her as he took some of her popcorn.
"You know I could scream vampire." She said. Well, I didn't think anyone would believe her, but I rushed over to intervene before either of them did something stupid.
"Hey, we don't need any of this." I interrupted. Damon then walked away. "Just because you have that ring doesn't mean that you should pick a fight with a vampire. It's not a fight that you can win. I know you're mad, but fighting with him won't help you move on."
"What am I supposed to do?" She challenged.
"Just focus on being yourself. We live in a world with magic and you may be able to have a faster transition than most people like you would." I stated.
"Are you saying that you can use magic to turn me into a girl?" She questioned.
"Bonnie might be able to, even though she hates me, so I might not be the best person to ask her." I replied. "And by the way, you're already a girl. The magic would just affect your body. Don't ever tell yourself that you're not a girl."
At that point, I noticed someone at the arm-wrestling table. There some guy managed to beat Stefan.
"Who is that?" I questioned.
"That's Tyler's uncle Mason Lockwood." Mary replied. "He really isn't around here very much and no one really knows that much about him."
"Well there's definitely something different about him." I replied. "I want to get closer to him."
At that point, a guy who looked like he had been compelled attacked Tyler, A fight broke out and then Mason intervened. I couldn't help but notice what was strange when Mason was fighting him and I even saw his eyes glow yellow. So, that settled that.
"What was that? Is he some sort of werewolf?" Mary asked.
At that point, I got a text from Elena to meet her in Alaric's classroom, I was pretty sure that the teacher wasn't here considering that he was on a date with Jenna.
"Come on. We need to go talk to your sister." I replied as I grabbed her sister and took her inside.
"You don't need to hold my hand." She stated.
"Well, I want to make sure that you come with me. This could be important." I pointed out.
We headed to the classroom. Stefan and Damon were also there.
"How did this happen?" Elena asked when we got into the room. Were they not going to tell me what was going on?
Well, I gave her some blood and then somewhere along the line, Katherine killed her." Damon responded. Oh, Caroline was a vampire. Wait, what?!
"But why Caroline?" Elena questioned.
"Probably because Katherine knew that she already had blood in her system." I interjected. "We can try to figure out the why later. Right now the most important thing is finding her."
"And killing her." Damon added.
"No." Elena replied.
"She knows who we are. She's a liability." Damon opined.
"We are not killing her." I argued.
"Need I remind you all of the tragic tale of a girl named Vicki Donovan?" Damon asked as he looked at Mary. "We all know how that turned out."
"What are you just going to erase Elena's memory of this stuff?" Mary asked. "I know I don't know much about what happened, but there has to be something different than can be done. Just because Vicki couldn't handle it does not mean that Caroline can't. We owe to ourselves to try."
"Wow. That was a total Gryffindor thing to say." I remarked.
"You like Harry Potter?" Mary asked.
"Yes. I'm a Ravenclaw." I declared. I then noticed that Damon had left the room. "Crap, we need to get to Caroline before his kills her. I don't think your speech had any effect on him."
We ended up finding Caroline and Damon together. He had a stake in his hand and preparing to use it on her. I did the only sensible thing that I could think of. I ran in front of it. I knew it wouldn't kill me because Damon's point of trajectory was Caroline's heart and she had four inches on me. In other words, it pierced my sternum instead. It still hurt like a bitch though.
"You saved me." Caroline replied in surprise. "Why?"
Before I could say anything, Bonnie arrived. She saw Caroline's mouth was covered in blood and then saw the dead body and touched and gasped in shock.
"Can someone get her cleaned up?" I asked as I pulled the wood out of me.
Stefan took her away. Of course, things did not get better from there. Bonnie was in denial and then seemed to go into a trancelike state. I could tell that the only thing that she wanted to do was kill Damon. She ended up lighting him on fire. I tried to stop her, but she gave me an aneurysm. Thankfully, Elena was able to break through to her.
"Why did you stop me?" Bonnie asked with tears in her eyes.
"Because I am sick of everyone trying to kill each other.' Elena declared. "We're supposed to all be on the same side here. Katherine did this and we have to help Caroline. The only one that needs to pay for this is Katherine."
"Bonnie. I'm sorry." I told her. "I realize that I never told you that. Caroline's going to need a ring now that she's a vampire. I also want to look in that book to see if there's a way to help Mary."
"I'll look into it." Bonnie promised.
From there, Elena, Mary, and I started to head home. I had a bit of a stagger to my step from my injury.
"Are you okay?" Mary asked.
"I just need some blood and I'll be fine." I assured them. They both looked at each other.
"Then drink mine." Mary said.
"No. I have some blood bags in my room." I said. I realized that it might not be the best idea, but I didn't think Jenna would go through my stuff.
"You can barely walk." Elena replied. "I know that you won't hurt her, even if you could."
"You two have a little too much faith in me." I replied before I bit into Mary's wrist. At that point, I remembered what I was going to say about Mason, but they probably didn't want to hear about it at that moment. I would have to tell them that he was a werewolf some other time.
So, Anna immediately knows that Mason is a werewolf. Also who is her father? Finally, will she find herself in a love triangle between the two sisters? Please don't forget to review.
