"I have to change schools, All Might." Yes, that was the most logical answer to this situation. In fact, it was the only answer to this situation. Izuku felt very pleased with himself. He was currently resting in the nursing office, having nothing but a self-wounded leg and chaotic thoughts to keep him company. His predecessor had walked into the room for some time, but Izuku failed to acknowledge his presence until now. His predecessor honestly regretted his decision to come here.
All Might could only hold his tongue to better think of the right course of action he should adhere to. He frankly had become accustomed to the many, many hospital visits of the one and only Izuku Midoriya. It was at least four times a month — the barest of minimums. Normally, the two had a normal conversation, shared a couple of laughs here and there, and were passive-aggressively judged by an understandably tired Recovery Girl. Never once was there any demand for school transfer. Until now.
"Where did this sudden outburst come from, young Midoriya?" All Might finally decided on how to reply to the troubled student. "Are you okay?"
Izuku turned to All Might. It was the single look that confirmed it all. Izuku wasn't okay.
"I did hear all about what happened to young Bakugou; but, I honestly don't understand—"
"I know it's ridiculous!" Izuku exclaimed. "Sorry, I guess… I don't really know. I shouldn't be acting like this. I shouldn't be feeling like this. Perhaps, I'm overreacting. I know I'm overreacting. It's just— Ugh." He dramatically flipped over his cot, head in pillows. He said words, yet he was muffled out by the pillow.
"Huh, " All Might asked. Izuku replied back, but again his words became rubbish. "Speak up, young—"
"He said my name!"
"And, how's that a proble—?" At this point, All Might should just stop talking.
"I think he's in love with me."
The way Izuku said this with so much earnestness made All Might cough up a little blood in surprise. Izuku's eyes, stone cold. His voice, stern. His facial expression, blank. This boy can't be seri—
"But, before you think I'm presumptuous, oh I know I am. It doesn't make any sense. Unless he seriously hates, which he kind of does in the most complicated manner as possible, how does it swap to earnest adoration… and of me? Why me? I feel like Todoroki or even Kirishima should fit the bill even better, but I have no idea! And, now the opposite of hate? Love! What, no? I mean, yes, some may think but should indifference play a role here? Like he's nice. To everyone . And, that doesn't make any sense—"
All Might debated how to interject into the rambling that only Izuku would consider a "conversation." While he does so very much care for the wellbeing of young Midoriya, there are major limitations here and there, especially when it doesn't relate to heroism. He also did have lunch planned with Principal Nezu that he honestly didn't want to miss. (They were having American.) So, with a stroke of his blonde tuft and tap of his wrist, All Might plainly ignored Izuku's sudden appearance of a laptop with tabs filled with various school applications and he simply butted in with due diligence.
"Aren't you gay?"
And, that shut Izuku right up. Perhaps, All Might could make it to lunch.
He should text Nezu just in case, though.
"What does that have to do with anything!?" Izuku exclaimed. Izuku's sexuality. It's something that he doesn't care to elaborate on. He gets flustered around girls, and guys are… Well, that's a whole other thing. Why would All Might just come out and say that to his face? Izuku doesn't even have time to worry about any romance in his life. He only needs to dedicate himself to become the No. 1 Pro Hero! Who needs love when you got drive, passion—
"Bakugou's a fine boy." Another nerve struck, which caused the poor denier to flounder. In all honesty, it was frankly a bit inappropriate for a teacher slash mentor slash parental figure slash whatever else to fill the void to suggest a romance of sorts to a student slash mentee slash adoptive child slash whatever else to find purpose. However, All Might needed to get out of here by ten.
"B-But, he's Kacchan…" This reply didn't answer anything.
"I know, you two have your intense past, but you are improving, yes?"
"I mean, as borderline acquaintances? I'm not sure if we could even be considered friends not to suggest boyfrie—" Izuku struggled with the word. The final syllable kept failing to leave the tip of his tongue even as he continued to dry heave. All Might honestly considered calling Recovery Girl back in for a psych evaluation.
"Then, this quirk could help further the growth in the relationship."
"B-But, that's not how it works!" Izuku could barely keep his tone in check. Although Izuku knows that the world isn't ending (or, at least, not to his knowledge), he could just feel everything crumbling around his feet. Why is this one thing making him spiral so much? Kacchan is his childhood friend and also childhood bully. He should be appreciative that he's being a teensy bit nicer to him. That he lowered his guard, getting flustered, smiling at him, and saying his actual name. But, it was all due to a quirk. It's not really Kacchan doing this. Kacchan would never.
"I know Kacchan. And, the Kacchan I know would absolutely hate how he's acting around me and the others. And, as much as I would like it, I shouldn't take advantage of that." Izuku pulls his now-healed legs to his chest. He tossed the laptop aside and sighed. To his surprise, All Might doesn't say anything immediately. He assumed he was in a rush for lunch or something. "I just don't know how to feel about all of this."
"I see." All Might decided to break his silence. Nezu just had to wait. "Let us begin by forming some ground rules on how to proceed in this unprecedented situation." Rules! That was something Izuku could sometimes get behind. "Number one! Don't commit self-harm just to avoid him. It's honestly terrifying how much it comes up with you." All Might rubbed his temple as Izuku chuckled to himself awkwardly.
"Number two! Just act normal around him, or let me phrase it better, act as rational as you can be with him. Bakugou is going through something not from his own design. I believe he would appreciate it if you just act as if everything is fine."
But, everything isn't fine , Izuku muttered.
"Midoriya."
Izuku immediately straightened up his position. "Yes, got it, sir!"
"We don't truly understand the quirk that affected him, but I see this to be a great learning experience to grasp upon other aspects of young Bakugou, whether it is of his true nature or a grand ol' fantasy."
Izuku couldn't exactly agree with all the points All Might mustered, but he also couldn't disagree with them. He just need to humor himself however long this stupid quirk last. It's already serving as his own detriment and the quirk wasn't even placed on him. And so, Izuku just nodded as a sign of respect.
"Good, but you did bring up some good concern about this personality-affecting quirk. So, let me ask you a couple of questions." All Might brought himself weirdly closer to Izuku. His hair was practically brushing against the young boy's cheek. "Under the quirk's influence, has he been stalking you?"
Huh. "No, I don't think so."
"Has he been stealing strands of your hair?"
What. "No…"
"Have a stalker wall solely dedicated to you?"
"All Might, are you okay?"
"This isn't about me."
"Okay."
"Well, good," All Might started to get on his feet. "So, there's nothing extreme to fret about, so delete all those school applications and live your life. I'll be going now, but I have full faith that everything is going to be alright, young Midoyria!" He rapidly transformed into his empowered state, giving Izuku an earnest smile before de-transforming as quickly. Izuku appreciated the gesture. "And, who knows? Young Bakugou might not even remember any of this."
Wait.
Izuku forgot to consider the role of memory retainment or loss in this. This changed everything. Ethics and morals could go very screwy if not checked and examined. If Kacchan remembers any of this, Izuku would be the one in trouble. Why? Well, that's stupid question. This is Kacchan, we're talking about. And, if Kacchan doesn't remember this, Izuku superficially might be on a clean slate, but Class 1-A wasn't known for keeping their mouth sealed. So, how could Izuku seriously act rational around this new Kacchan if there are so many unknown factors that could take play. He needed to clarify with All Might because this isn't going to be—
And, All Might already left.
