Ep. 18: A Kid's Promise

"Guys! I've done it! I've finally finished it! Ta da! My Power Rangers Encyclopedia!" Chip announced, bringing out a tablet & flipping through the PDF pages, showing Doc.
"Whoa, neat!" Doc said, looking at it, then he gave the girls tablets. "You put this together yourself?"
"Yep! This should make sure we don't get mixed up like the other day," Chip said, then brought out a flashdrive, handing it to Doc, then handed a tablet to Marvelous. "Here you go. Make sure to read it & take it all in!"
"You've put quite a lot of work into this, have you not?" Vivi asked, skimming through.
"Huh...I never thought of fighting like that..." Robin said, looking at some of the pages.
"You should give this a read too, Joe," Chip said, handing him a tablet while he was doing sit-ups.
"No time. Gotta go food shopping," he said, getting up. He walked out of the room.
"I'll come too, Joe!" Chip yelled, running after him as everyone read.
"Wait up, Joe!" Chip said, running. "Hey, what are your favorite things about Earth?"
"I'm not sure."
"Haven't decided yet, huh? I know you've all come from faraway galaxies & all, but you're the 20th Power Ranger team! If you all learn more about the Earth, I'm sure you'll grow to love it as much as I do!"
"It's not like I hate this place or anything," Joe stopped, then a kid came in on a bike fast & swerved around Chip, who was a few steps ahead.
"Whoa!"
"What are you doing? Watch where you're going!" the kid said, peddling away.
"You're the one riding like a maniac!" Chip responded. "Hey, come back here!"
"I'm in a hurry!"
"What's with him?"
"Well, I do know one thing. Earth kids are a bunch of brats," Joe said & continued walking.
"That was just a special case!" Chip yelled, running after him.
The kid stopped in front of a hill.
"I'm finally here. I hope there's a clear sky tonight," he said, peddling up the slope. As he came up to the top, he overheard someone.
"What!? You found it!?" the Commander yelled as an X-Borg came out of a shrine.
"The Armada?" he asked, stopping & going off the side of the path into some trees,
"So this is the fragment of the Power Stone," the Commander said after being handed it & the sun gleamed off of it into the kid's eye, which made him wince with an audible grunt. "You saw us, didn't you?" the Commander asked & the kid ran back to his bike, then got on & tried to peddle away in a haste, though he skinned his left leg on the peddle by accident. "Don't let him escape!" the Commander yelled & the X-Borgs ran after him.
Chip & Joe were walking through a trainyard with the groceries in bags like the big ones you can get at Sam's Club.
"Joe, we shouldn't go through here," Chip said.
"It's a shortcut," Joe responded, then stopped suddenly.
"Joe?"
"Help!" the kid yelled, peddling towards them. They stopped him.
"You're that kid!" Chip said.
"Help me! The Armada's after me!" the kid yelled & they tailed behind, getting nearer.
"X-Borgs!"
"What are you doing here, you pirate scum?" the Commander said as he came out from behind them.
"What do you want with the kid, Commander!?" Chip asked.
"Stay right there," Joe told the kid, then went back to where Chip was standing, then they got out their morphers & keys.
"It's Morphin Time!" they yelled & morphed.
"Pirate Crew!"
They got their weapons out & charged in.
"The space pirates?" the kid asked, looking towards them.
"Silver Spear, Trident Mode!" Chip yelled & slashed them.
Joe held one hand behind his back & one-handed them. They dispatched the X-Borgs.
"You're always getting in our way!" the Commander yelled.
"That's our line!" Chip yelled.
"You've interrupting our post-shopping," Joe said.
"...Seriously?" Chip asked.
"Shut up!" the Commander yelled while firing an attack at them that then threw sparks around them, witch they then rolled out of.
"Joe, let's use the team with Dinosaurs!" Chip yelled.
"Right."
They took out some keys.
"Power switch!"
"Power switch!"
"Mighty Morphin!"
"Green Ranger!"
"Dino Thunder!"
"No! That's Dino Thunder!" Chip yelled in frustration, then they charged in with their sword & dagger & started slashing at the Commander.
"You said 'dinosaurs.' Close enough!"
"No, it really isn't!" he responded, holding the Commander's arm.
"Move," Joe said, then slashed the Commander again. They then slashed him some more, then Chip stabbed him with his Dragon Dagger.
"You really should read my Encyclopedia!"
The Commander got up, then fired an attack. Joe blocked it with the Tricera Shield.
"Chip!"
"Right!" he yelled, then jumped up, then off Joe's shoulder.
"Dragon Dagger!" he yelled, then zapped him.
"Tricera Shield!" Joe said, then stabbed the Commander after running up to him. The piece of the stone then dropped on the ground with the rocks below him.
"We work pretty well together, Joe!"
"My precious Power Stone!" the Commander yelled, picking it up. "Wait! Yes..." he said, standing up. "I have no time to waste on you pirates!" he yelled, zapping the ground & disappeared. Chip then ran through the smoke he left behind.
"Aw, man, he got away..." Chip said.
They demorphed.
"Hey, kid! Wait up! What happened? Hey, you're hurt!" he said, noticing his leg.
"It's nothing. I've gotta get going, & fast!" the kid said.
"What for?" Joe asked.
"I promised her..."
"Promised what?"
"Last year, before I moved to Albany, I promised my best friend Sarah that we'd meet at the top of Whiteface Mountain & watch the meteor shower together."
"Wait, you came here from Albany by bike!? That had to have taken at least a day!" Chip said in astonishment.
"Yeah, and?"
"You're an idiot," Joe said, then put a bandage around his wound. "All right, take off. You promised her, didn't you? Get a move on."
"Thanks!" the kid said to him, then got on the bike & rode once more.
"Joe, you really think he can make it in time?"
"Probably not."
"Then, why would you—?"
"I like those kind of idiots. Reminds me of a certain someone."
Marvelous then got a feeling.
"Who's been talking about me?" he asked.
"I wonder..." Robin said, reading.
"More importantly, we need to do some digging," Joe said, then started walking the other way than they were facing.
"Oh right, into what the Armada was after," Chip said, then they were looking at the screen on the ship.
"Must be these..." Doc said, showing footage from the battle, then paused & zoomed & enhanced on the stone. "The Ghostly Stone & the Child's Stone. There's an awful legend about them. 'No matter how much the Child's Stone cried, its parent would never return. For when the Ghostly Stone is reunited with its child, the end of the world shall be upon us.'"
"So those fragments must be two halves of a single stone," Chip said. "And when they're put together, something awful will happen!"
"It's just a legend," Marvelous said.
"But if the Armada's after them..." Robin said.
"Where would the other half be located?" Vivi asked. "That's likely to be their destination."
"It's at Whiteface Mountain, apparently."
"What?" Chip & Joe asked.
"I promised my best friend Sarah that we'd meet at the top of Whiteface Mountain & watch the meteor shower together."
"That kid!" Joe said to himself.
"Joe!" Chip yelled, following him.
"Yeah, all right. Let's go," Marvelous said.
The kid peddled up a path on the side of the mountain.
-Whiteface Mountain. Hiking Trail Entrance-
The Commander was at a place on the mountain.
"This must be it. Prince Vekar, report. We've discovered the location of the other Power Stone!"
"You have!? Excellent..." Vekar said in response. "Stargle! Awaken the power that lies dormant beneath the ground, & use its incredible energy!"
"If you combine that power source with your own ability, we'll subjugate the Earth in no time," Damaras said.
"Yes sir! Then I shall begin," the Commander responded & placed the stone on top of the stone pyramid in front of him. It powered up & he placed his hands on it. "It burns!" he yelled, absorbing its energy. "This energy burns my very soul!"
"Do not let anyone near this place!" one of the Bruisers said to the X-Borgs.
Joe ran through the forest.
"Joe!" Chip yelled as he ran after Joe.
"Whatever could be the Armada's intentions for this mountain?" Vivi said to Marvelous as they walked after them.
"Can't be anything good, that's for sure," Marvelous responded to her.
Doc walked through another part of the forest, then slipped on a wet rock near a slowly running river. Robin caught him.
"Come on," she said as she stood him back up.
"T-Thanks," he said, then they & Marvelous & Vivi were surrounded by the X-Borgs.
"The servants have come to greet us," Vivi said after looking around at them.
Joe got to the top of thee hill he & Chip were climbing. Some X-Borgs came charging at them. They stood, ready.
"Here we go, Doc!" Robin yelled & pushed Doc towards the river, then took out her sabre & charged.
Joe one-handed several X-Borgs, with Chip fighting some with his Spear. Chip jumped down at one then slashed it in the chest while Joe fended one off. His Mobirate then rang & he answered.
"Guys, there's a huge energy reading coming from the peak of the mountain!" Navi told them, Chip put his Cell to his ear to listen in too.
"The peak, huh?" Chip said, then he looked up & saw a blue light flash from on top of it.
Joe then put his Mobirate down & looked behind him, seeing the kid peddle.
Some X-Borgs blocked his path, stopping him.
"Again!? What the heck!" He yelled as they lined to fire at him.
One of them got shot in the head, then Joe & Chip came running at them & they both fired shots at them, defeating them. They then stopped where they were.
"The space pirates," the kid said, looking at them.
"Soon! Soon, I will be at 100% power!" the Commander yelled as he was absorbing more of the energy.
"This place isn't safe! You need to get as far away as you can, quickly!" Chip told the kid.
"No way! I promised to meet her! I'm too close to leave now!" the kid told him.
"Your friend's not gonna show up with all this happening!" Chip tried to tell him.
"She'll come! It's not just a promise."
"We came all this way, & now it's cloudy..." he said in a flashback.
"I was hoping if I wished on a star, maybe I'd be able to play soccer again. Not tonight, though..." Sarah said. She had some gauges on her left leg, then started to walk away.
"Don't worry! They said if you went through physical therapy, you'd be good as new, right?" he told her.
"I dunno..."
"Hey! Why don't we meet up here, for next year's meteor shower?"
"Yeah! I can bike here from Albany!"
"On your bike!?"
"Yeah. And I'll wish extra hard that the sky stays clear."
"No way! You can't make it that far."
"Yeah, I can! And next time, we'll get to wish on the stars! Trust me!"
"So I have to go, no matter what!" he told them back in the present.
"I see," Joe said.
"This place is swarming with Armada soldiers! You can't just waltz right in," Chip told him, then Joe pushed him to the side.
"If you want to go, then get moving."
"Huh!?" the kid asked.
"Oh come on!" Chip said.
"Thank you!" the kid said, then peddled on.
"Just be careful!" Joe yelled after him.
"Joe! How could you let him do that!?" Chip asked.
"If we defeat the Armada soldiers, then problem solved, right?"
"Sure, but..."
"Then let's go," Joe said, walking.
"Joe!"
The X-Borgs were still fighting Marvelous & Vivi, who fought them off with the sabres & blasters. Robin & Doc also fought their group. Joe & Chip fought a new group. The Commander then finished absorbing the energy.
"It's mine. The energy is all mine!" his chest glowed. He then turned around to see the Bruisers getting blasted away. The Rangers then stood before him.
"Ah, and not a moment too soon, dear pirates!"
"What!?" Joe asked.
"My secret art...Meteor Drive!" he announced, charging the attack & launched it in the air. It then flew into space
"What've you done!?" Chip asked.
"I've used the energy that laid dormant under this mountain & gained control of a gigantic meteoroid lying within the depths of space!"
"What!?" Doc asked.
"A gigantic meteoroid?" Vivi asked.
"Isn't a big meteor just a small asteroid? Make up your mind," Marvelous said pedantically.
"Silence! I said it was gigantic!" the energy flew into a meteor & started moving it back from whence it came. "Now, I shall control the meteoroid & send it crashing down to Earth!"
"Then we just have to defeat you, & then you'll lose control of it," Joe said.
"Well, that makes it simple," Marvelous agreed.
They got their keys & morphers.
"It's Morphin Time!"
"Pirate Crew!"
"Pirate Crew Red."
"Pirate Crew Blue."
"Pirate Crew Yellow."
"Pirate Crew Green."
"Pirate Crew Pink."
"Pirate Crew Silver!"
"Power Rangers Pirate Crew!"
"The show starts now," Joe said, brandishing his sabre.
"The energy has also powered me up quite nicely!" the Commander said, then fired an attack.
The kid then heard the explosion, but continued on.
Joe & Chip got flown back by an explosion. The others went over to them. The Commander then fired another energy attack at them & blasted them backwards on to the ground.
"How do you like my new powers?"
"Let's use some Power Cards!" Chip said after getting to his feet. He got out the Robo Knight Key & put it in the Cell, then they all changed.
"Power Switch!"
"Megaforce!"
"Bring it on!" Chip yelled.
The Commander fired another beam at them.
"Defenstream Card, Activate!" Joe & Chip yelled, inserting the cards, then they created a water barrier that deflected them.
"Activate! Rockcrush!" Doc & Robin yelled, then launched some rocks at him, which he deflected.
Marvelous & Vivi jumped at him.
"Phoenix Shot!" Vivi yelled & shot him.
"Dragon Sword!" Marvelous yelled & slashed him several times, then kicked him in the back towards the others..
"Shark Bowgun!" Joe yelled.
"Vulcan Cannon!" Chip yelled.
They then fired at him & hit. They then lined up again.
"Next up, let's use these!" Marvelous yelled, holding up a key.
"Power Switch!"
"Star Force!"
"Mighty Morphin!"
"What?" Doc asked Chip.
"These suits fit that one better than Mighty Morphin," Chip responded.
"I guess," Doc responded.
"Let's go!" Marvelous said.
"All right, Saba!" Chip said, jumping up at the Commander & slashed Saba's blade at him.
"Star Swords, Chi-Fortified Shot!" the others yelled & shot their weapons at the Commander. Chip ducked out of the way.
"Curse you!" the Commander yelled.
"You don't give up, huh?" Joe asked.
"Let's finish him off!" Robin suggested.
"Hey, guys!" Chip said. "How about we use Zeo next?" he said, holding up the Gold Ranger Key & loaded it in the morpher.
"Power Switch!"
"Zeo!"
"Gold Ranger!"
"Let's use that special move, from the Encyclopedia!" Doc suggested.
"This was actually something I wanted to see as a six-man attack!" Chip said, excited.
"Let's go!" Marvelous shouted, then they charged. They then jumped up & started swirling in the air.
"Zeo Dynamite Attack!" they all yelled, then shot at him in an energy attack, blowing him up.
"Ok!" Chip yelled, posing.
"Nice!" Doc said.
Marvelous changed back to his normal suit.
"Huh?" he said, seeing the Commander roll away.
"He is quite persistent, is he not?" Vivi asked.
Chip & Joe got their Spear & Sabre.
"Let's finish this," Joe said & flipped up the cylinder on his sabre.
"No!" Vekar yelled on the ship.
"My Liege, he has not yet been..." Biorg started.
"We cannot afford for him to be obliterated yet!" Vekar yelled, then pushed him out of the way & Levira on to the floor. "Curse you!" he yelled, pushing a button on the Conn & getting the grow gun, then fired it.
"Bang!"
"That's meant to be my job..." Levira said, disappointed.
The Rangers charged their attack, but stopped. The beam hit the Commander & he grew.
"He cut straight to growing giant-sized," Marvelous said.
"If we don't defeat him quickly, we shall be unable to halt the asteroid..." Vivi said.
The kid kept peddling, the stopped when he saw the Commander grow. The Commander then saw him & he yelled, then fell over on his bike.
"I'm done for!" he yelled.
The Megazord then came in & kicked the Commander away.
"You all right?" Joe asked from the Megazord. "Don't give up. You've come this far, right?"
"But..." the kid said, then felt his wound.
"You promised, didn't you!? You said you'd watch the meteor shower together!"
The kid nodded, then Joe nodded & the Megazord went over to the Commander. They summoned the Red Lion & the Q-Rex came out of its time portal.
"Q-Rex Drill, launch!"
"All right..." the kid said, then got up, got back on the bike, & continued on.
"Let's go!" he announced, then peddled.
"Megazord: Samurai Form, ready!"
"Q-Rex Megazord!"
"Let's do this!" Chip called, then started fighting the Commander. He beat him back with his drill.
"Now's your chance!" he announced, then the others came in.
"Lion's Flaming Roar!" Marvelous announced & flames came out on the Lion's mouth, burning the Commander.
"Time to finish you once and for all," Joe announced, turning the key in his wheel.
"Let's go! Fire Smasher! Pirate Samurai Strike!"
"You may think you've won, but it's too late!" the Commander yelled. The Rangers looked at him. "Look to the sky!"
"No way! It's already here!?" Robin asked as it was zoomed in on their screen in the Megazord.
"It's too late! It's already within the Earth's gravitational pull..." Doc said. "There's no stopping it now!"
"What!?" Joe asked.
"No way..." Chip said.
"Then we'll just have to destroy it!" Marvelous said, then flipped up his key & inserted it in the wheel & turned it.
"Pirate Starburst!" they all announced, then fired their cannon balls at the meteor, which took them.
"Oh, no...it had no effect," Vivi said & it entered the atmosphere, starting to burn up. "Whatever shall we do?"
They all looked crestfallen, then Chip thought of something.
"I've got it! Joe! Throw me at it!"
"What're you gonna do" Robin asked.
"All right. I get it," Joe said. Chip then nodded.
"Thanks!"
Joe turned the wheel hard & the Megazord moved.
"Wait, Joe!" Doc said.
"I'm counting on you, Chip!" Joe said as the Megazord clamped the Q-Rex's shoulders.
"Right!"
The Megazord started twirling the Q-Rex around it in 360°.
"Off you go!" Joe yelled, then they launched the Q-Rex into the atmosphere.
"I'm in the silver starlight!" Chip yelled, then got out the Drago Ranger Key & inserted it into the wheel. "Ranger Key, set!" he spun the wheels fast. "Pirate Drill Spin Blitz!"
The Q-Rex lifted its drill arm, then powered through it with some resistance at first, shattering it into many little pieces.
"We did it! We did it!" he yelled.
"All right!" Robin yelled.
"Good," Joe said, quietly, nodding.
"Nick!" a voice said as he walked his bike up the slope. "You really biked all the way here!?" she asked.
"See? I kept my promise."
"Me too. Look!" she said, holding a soccer ball, then kicked it over to him. He dropped his bike to catch it.
"Sarah..."
The smiled at each other, then Sarah ran over to him & they took each other's hands in the air after a high five.
Later that evening, Joe walked over near where they were with the others behind him. They saw them stargazing. The kids saw the meteor fragments streaming across the sky.
"Whoa! Awesome!" Nick exclaimed.
"There's so many stars..." they both said
"Being part of the Power Rangers isn't just about saving lives. It's about keeping people's dreams alive," Chip said. "And that's what makes you a true blue Power Ranger, Joe!"
"I don't really care," Joe said, "That kid did his best to get here. That's all there is to it."
"Earth's full of earnest, hard-working people like him. So, has this made you like the Earth a little more?"
"I already told you, it's not like I hate it here."
Joe walked away with the others following.
