Abrupt

"Aaron Echolls."

Everyone froze, each one experiencing a different emotion. For Veronica, it was a surprise, Jake was shocked, the doctor and other officer working to school their expressions, and as for Keith, his expression remained composed despite his racing mind.

It was a renewed sense of justice, his mind already trying to fill in the blanks.

Whereas everyone was still reeling from the bombshell of information, Keith was ready. A sense of excitement filled his chest. "Do you have any idea as to why Mr. Echolls would attract you?"

"We were sleeping together."

"LILLY!" Jake gave a broken cry, his eyes wide.

"He'd been recording us, so I took the videos." She shrugged, eyes narrowing as she grew more annoyed. "He showed up later at the house and demanded them back. It was creepy, and I wasn't gonna cover for him. He was getting too rough and controlling. I was over it."

"So when he came to your home, what did he say?"

She cooked her head, pinching her brow in consideration. "Something about his reputation and career. Also, what it would do to his family, to his son." There was a huff of a laugh; she even smirked. "And I told him then he shouldn't have slept with his son's girlfriend." Her expression then fell, a shadow seeming to fall over her eyes. "I got up and was walking to the house. When I heard him call me a bitch and then…" Lilly grew quiet, her hand trembling as she reached for her head. "I-I…I…" Her voice trembled, and her eyes grew misty.

Lilly looked to Veronica, her hands reaching for her, her gaze equally pleading and desperate. Veronica grabbed both hands, leaning across the bed and holding onto her as Lily cried.

Jake stood, his eyes finding Keith's, and within them burned an immense rage. Since Lily's attack, their friendship had frayed, hinging on Keith's ability to find justice for his friend's daughter. And now Jake looked at him, honest and demanding.

He approached, anger exuding from every pore.

"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions, Mr. Kane?" Keith asked, his tone understanding but just as demanding.

Jake nodded. "We have much to discuss."
