-Heyos! Again, this is a rewrite/continuation of an older fanfic on here (as I have lost the information needed for that account). Enjoy~
Thorin's P.O.V.
I could see the surprise on my nephews' and Balin's faces when the tiny Hobbit snapped at them, anger in his eyes before he headed off into the woods alone. I could honestly say that non of us were expecting him to do that. But, when he didn't return soon after, I began to grow worried that he might have gotten in trouble or hurt, so I stood from my spot and headed into the direction that he had left from.
Having been walking around with no sign of him for a few minutes, I began to grow frustrated with worry as I looked around for him. Where had that blasted Hobbit gone to?! Not seeing him, I heaved a heavy sigh. "Bilbo...where are you...?" I whisper to myself.
"Right here. Why, is there something wrong?"
Whipping around quickly, I saw the Hobbit sitting atop of a large rock, his knees close to his chest. I knew for a fact that he was not there a moment ago...
"Where did you wander off to if I may ask?" I ask gruffly, trying to hide the embarrassment I felt rise in my stomach at having been caught off guard by the smaller creature.
Bilbo offered me a small smile. "Just went for a small stroll to clear my head a bit." he offers, and I noticed that his curls was slightly wet with water, seemingly glittering like tiny diamonds in the moonlight, his face having some coloring compared to the paleness of before.
Nodding, I motion toward the direction of the camp where I had left the company.
"Well, come along, burgler. Or else the company will think something happened to you." I explain. Bilbo nods and jumps nimbly down from the rock before falling into step beside me, hands clasped behind his back as he walked. Neither of us spoke as returned back to the campsite, both of us possibly in our own thoughts.
Bilbo's P.O.V.
I was a little surprised at Thorin coming to find me, as I thought he didn't seem to care. Heading back toward the campsite, some scent caught my nose as the wind began blowing slightly. It was a simple scent, but it was one that brought certain thoughts to my mind...certain memories of my past...
Shaking my head quickly, I headed straight for my bedroll to lay down once we made it back to the campsite, my movements feeling more fluid and easier than they did before I hunted. Sighing softly, I settled down as Ori glanced over at me.
"You seem to be refreshed, Bilbo." he offers with a small smile. I offered a smile back, but my stomach felt like it was sinking toward my bare feet.
"Yes, I feel better than I have in years." I offer, stretching out my tired limbs somewhat. I had to fight back the urge to vomit at my words, despite how true they were. I hadn't felt this physically amazing in years, feeling refreshed and stronger. I knew for a fact that I wouldn't need to drink for a while now.
"Goodnight, Ori..." I whisper as I turn to my side, back facing the camp so that none of them could see the bitter tears that began to roll down my cheeks.
'Oh! When will this torturous hell end?!'
Thorin'sP.O.V.
I had noticed the look on Bilbo's face when he spoke to Ori about feeling 'refreshed'. It was a look of pure, twisted loathing and a pool of sadness in those amber eyes. I didn't fully know why it pained me to see that look on his face, as I didn't really feel that way except whenever my kin was in that form of pain. Yet I felt the pang in my chest at seeing it on the Hobbit's face...
"You alright, laddie?"
I looked away from Bilbo's now turned back to see Balin settling down next to me. "I am fine. Why do you ask?" I ask, confused by his question about my well-being, but grateful for it as I valued his advice.
"One of these days, he will take notice of how you look at him." Balin explains softly, nodding his head toward Bilbo's sleeping form. "You are very obvious about it, after all."
"I have no idea as to what you are talking about." I grumble, looking away. "I wasn't looking at him." I add, hoping that Balin didn't notice the lie.
"Thorin, myself and the others in the company have noticed how you look at him." Balin explains, causing me to look at him in surprise. "Trust me," he continues with a kind smile forming on his face under his white beard. "I have seen Bilbo look at you in a similar way when he thinks that no one notices." he explains softly, patting my back before getting to his feet to speak with his brother about first watch.
I frown slightly as his words ran through my mind. I didn't think that I stared at Bilbo, but I was wise enough to not argue with Balin over this. Shaking my head, I headed to my own bedroll to sleep for the night, unable to stop my thoughts wandering to a certain golden-haired Hobbit.
-Meows, hope you liked this chapter as well! Let me know in the comments on where you think this version will be similar with the original, or where you think this one will be more changed? Let me know :3
