Chapter Five

Robotnik stood on the deck of the Egg Carrier, watching the smoke rising from the island, his mouth curled into a sinister smile as he heard the explosion and the flash of green light. He laughed maniacally, seeing the sign that his creation had accomplished his mission.

A puddle of water formed at the doctor's feet and Robotnik looked down, watching as the creature appeared. It may not have been as the murals depicted it, but it was still Chaos. And all that the doctor needed was the Chaos Emeralds, the next step in the plan. Chaos observed Robotnik, looking at him with a sense of curiosity.

The sound of engines raised his attention and the doctor watched as Omega came in to land with Gamma right behind him.

"MISSION COMPLETE! MASTER EMERALD HAS BEEN DESTROYED!" Omega buzzed.

"Yes, excellent." Robotnik purred, "Now, all we need are the Emeralds. There is no time to rest, it is time for your next mission, follow."

Chaos melted back into a puddle of water and Omega followed his creator off the deck, back into the depths of the Egg Carrier's mechanical halls. Gamma followed behind him, following his brother and creator.

The ship's engines rumbled and slowly turned around, flying through the darkness and leaving the area behind as the island began to fall towards the world below...

Omega faced Robotnik in the main control room of the ship, the doctor had activated the viewing monitor as robots floated into the room, the screen showed the Chaos Emeralds and a file on Chaos as well as images of a mural in an ancient temple.

E-102 Gamma stood at Omega's side and so too did many of the other robots such as E-100 Alpha, a green robot with boxing gloves as it floated in the air. E-101 Beta stood at Omega's left with E-103 Delta, a blue E-series robot, standing close behind him.

Every robot was combat ready, weapons primed, all prepped for their mission.

The doctor stepped forward, a microphone activating. "Can you all hear me, my robots?" He asked, "As you know, we have freed Chaos and the Master Emerald is destroyed, but the work is far from over.

"Now, we have the Chaos Emeralds to collect and, then, there is the matter of Chaos' tail. Chaos misses its tail and my spy bots have just reported on where to find it."

A frog's image cropped up on the screen and the doctor grinned maniacally. "Yes, look at this frog!" He said, "According to my scouts, it appears this frog has somehow gotten Chaos' tail.

"This frog is located in the Mystic Ruins jungle, your task is to capture the frog. You are to head there and capture it, are your orders understood?"

"Roger, wilco!" Omega buzzed, "All enemies of Doctor Robotnik will be obliterated!"

"Go, capture!" The doctor ordered, "And do not delay!"

Omega and his fellow E-series robots saluted and departed the room, activated their thrusters and flew out into the darkness, battle-ready and prepared to accomplish their given mission. No delay, no compromise, they would capture the frog and bring it back alive.

He opened his eyes and sat up with a yawn, stretching his large muscles and blinking the tiredness out of his pupils. Big the Cat rose to his feet and slipped on his sandals upon his smooth purple feet, then he picked up his fishing rod and looked around, realizing that his little buddy was missing.

"Froggy?" He asked, "Froggy, where are you?"

Big heard the croaking sound and turned to see his polliwog pal, hopping across the creek away from the cabin, towards the strange puddle on the ground. Big stepped down the porch, full of concern, wondering what was about to happen.

"Hey, Froggy?" He called, "What are you doing there, buddy? I don't think you should be going hoping around on your own. And I don't know what that puddle is. Froggy? Froggy?!"

The green frog surveyed the swirling puddle, eying it curiously. He felt thirsty, very thirsty, and that puddle looked tasty. He stuck his tongue out, even as he heard Big calling him back, and tasted the water.

He drank it all, ignoring the strange taste other than the fact that it looked so inviting to drink. Then, he felt odd, he felt a weird sensation in his back area.

"What's with the tail?"

Big stood over Froggy, looking at him with confusion. He kneeled over and picked up his little buddy, even as the frog croaked in his palm. The large cat pet Froggy, stroking his head in a gentle manner, then he looked at the new tail that had grown on Froggy.

It was thanks to that puddle, that magic puddle. Oh yes, it was magic, it had to be since it gave Froggy a tail...

Just then, clanking perked Big's ears and he saw bushes rustling and trees moving. An explosion shook the jungle, smoke rising into the dark sky. Big headed back to his cabin, ready to settle back down for the night, Froggy would be okay for now.

However, the dark night had one more surprise for the large purple cat and his friend, one more detail in the weirdness; A tall hulking metal machine emerged from the bushes, it's red eyes fixed upon it's target...
