Four years later:
Shikaoi sat next to his twin and waited for the drama that was sure to ensue when his popular "duck-butt" headed friend arrived.
He barely acknowledged the arrival of Ino and her pink-haired shadow.
Shikaoi didn't hate Sakura, but he hated that she took advantage of her friendship with Ino.
Sakura hid her violent, two faced—other self with her obsessive tendencies.
The pinkette's true self only showed itself around a certain blonde, knuckle head ninja.
Shikaoi was brought out of his mind just in time to catch sight of Naruto...kissing Sasuke?
'What a drag...' the boy thought as his friend's fan girls beat up his other friend for accidentally, "stealing (their) Sasuke-kun's first kiss."
Shikaoi's gaze fell on his twin's newly pierced ears. His hands subconsciously moved to his own newly pierced appendages.
Unlike his brother—Shikamaru—Shikaoi isn't going to be a member of team Ino-Shika-Cho, but piercing ears upon graduating is clan tradition.
Shikaoi wondered who his teammates and sensei would be.
Traditionally, the sensei gives the members of the Ino-Shika-Cho genin team matching earrings.
Shikaoi probably wouldn't partake in that particular tradition, but his father mentioned taking him to pick out a pair as was the norm for Nara who aren't the clan heir.
Shikaoi didn't mind one way or another, although he was curious what would happen since the teams were now uneven.
Shikaoi suddenly came back to himself when Iruka—who Shikaoi only just realized arrived and was talking— started calling out the teams. He tuned in when he hears his name.
"Team seven will be: Shikaoi, Naruto and Sasuke under jonin commander, Kakkashi Hatake. Team eight will be: Hinata Hyuga, Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame under jonin commander Kurenai Yuhei. Team nine is still in rotation, so team ten will consist of Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara and Choji Akimichi under Asuma Saru..."
Shikaoi tuned out once more and was brought back into attention by a shriek from a certain pink-haired girl.
"But-sensei there must be a mistake! You see I was supposed to be on Sasuke's team not that idiotic Naruto!"
Shikaoi clenched his jaw and fists in anger. The girl insulted his blonde friend, who now has a kicked puppy expression at the slight from his crush.
Even the normally stoic last Uchiha had to rein in his anger at the girl insulting one of his friends.
"Well Sakura, as the teams were decided upon by our hokage I am quite certain that you were not 'supposed to be' on any team, as you didn't pass the physical portion of your exam. I commend the fact that you managed to get you hands on and are wearing a fake headband, but impersonating a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf is not only dangerous, it is also 'idiotic' and highly illegal."
The pink haired civilian was then dragged out of the classroom.
After an Ichiraku break with his new teammates Shikaoi was getting frustrated with this 'Kakkashi Hatake' character.
One-by-one jonin came to pick up their genin and the three boys were stuck waiting.
The Nara had to sit back and watch slightly bitter as his brother and their childhood friends' sensei fetch them.
This went on until a certain whiskered jinchuriki couldn't take it anymore.
"How come all the other sensei picked up their teams and we are stuck with the only tardy one! Even Iruka left already! Believe it!" Naruto complained, before a mischievous gleam overtook his fox-like features.
Sasuke let out a "hn" of agreement and Shikaoi only sighed.
The blonde got up to set a trap for their tardy sensei and when Shikaoi tunes back in it was to chalk covered, masked shinobi, who's only visible discerning features was his one uncovered eye and his gravity defying silver hair.
"My first impression is...I hate you," the ninja said, causing the Nara to narrow his eyes, before their new sensei disappeared in a puff of smoke.
