Kakashi didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't this.
"Sensei can you come down from that tree and begin the exam?" Shikaoi asked.
Although he was surprised, Kakashi didn't let it show.
"How long?" Kakashi asked.
"Since you arrived ten minutes ago," Shikaoi stated.
Naruto nodded knowingly in agreement.
"Yeah Sensei! You weren't very sneaky," Naruto added, Sasuke hnned in agreement.
The boys smiled at each other conspiratorially.
Kakashi explains the parameters of the test and Naruto was eager to begin.
"I didn't say start yet," Kakashi reprimanded, before finding himself with a face full of smoke as 'Naruto' vanished.
'A shadow clone?' Kakashi thought looking back to where the other two genin were standing.
"Haha, he fell for it!" 'Sasuke' said laughingly, before he too vanished in a puff of smoke.
"What?" Kakashi said shocked.
"You need to be more aware of your surroundings sensei," Shikaoi chastised.
"Our opponent is a jonin," Shikaoi had explained, "so it won't take long for him to realize..."
'Genjutsu?' Kakashi groaned inwardly, flaring his chakra, but finding himself still trapped. 'How?' Kakashi wondered.
"He has the sharingan?" Sasuke had interrupted looking murderous.
"It was given to him willingly from what I understand..." Shikaoi had placated the Uchiha.
Sasuke activated his Sharingan from his hiding spot in the tree behind their teacher.
Kakashi flared his chakra once more in the real world. Shikaoi bit his lip in concentration as he cast genjutsu on top of genjutsu on their sensei keeping him immobile waiting for their blonde headed teammate to finish laying down the trap.
"Sasuke, take over," Shikaoi ordered the Uchiha quickly flashing between hand signs just as their sensei broke out of the final illusion only to find himself in a different illusion all together.
"You are in my genjutsu now!" Sasuke muttered. "Feel the power of a true Uchiha!" he cackled madly causing Shikaoi to sweat drop.
"Shadow possession complete," Shikaoi whispered, tossing a bell each to his friends just as Kakashi broke out of Sasuke's illusion.
Kakashi was confused as to how three genin could have got the drop on him.
The jonin realized that he couldn't move and spotting the Nara quickly started to flare his chakra outwardly breaking out of Shikaoi's hold, before he quickly darted out of range and right into the trap that Naruto had been setting up.
"Haha he fell for it again dattebayo!" Naruto crowed laughing at Kakashi's now bright orange covered hair.
The timer went off in the distance and Kakashi grinned creepily his one visible eye crinkling.
"You three have failed..." Kakashi said, raising his killer intent levels, which although it had an adverse effect on Shikaoi and Sasuke, did nothing to deter the jinchuriki who only grinned lifting his bell.
Kakashi looked from Naruto to Shikaoi to Sasuke dropping his killer intent before settling on Shikaoi.
"Naruto and Sasuke pass, but since Shikaoi didn't get a bell, he has to go back to the academy," Kakashi explained causing Naruto to protest loudly trying to give his bell to his friend, who only put a hand up silencing the blond.
"It is okay, I won't be going back to the academy, because not only is there no such thing as a two genin squad, but also, because our new sensei wouldn't want to piss off the one who is holding this object," Shikaoi said pulling out a certain piece of literature.
Kakashi's hands instinctively reaches for his pouch, before coming up empty handed.
"Give it back!" he snarled menacingly, "or I will ensure you won't have to worry about not graduating as you won't have a career as a ninja!"
Shikaoi paused momentarily stunned as he hadn't considered this outcome from a grown jonin.
"Hm..." Shikaoi muttered thoughtfully deliberating, whether or not he should point out that his father is jonin commander and wouldn't let the man's painfully childish display come to pass, so he settled on how he would proceed.
"Let's see," Shikaoi said opening the book and settling on a random page. "—she moaned adoringly as he touched her—."
"Don't!" Kakashi said warningly. He couldn't be responsible for corrupting the son of a clan head. Let alone the son of the jonin commander he would be swamped by D ranks! Kakashi lunges for the book, which the Nara tossed to Naruto who grinned.
"We are a team and we won't leave Shikaoi behind," he announced tossing the book to Sasuke.
" The dobe is right," Sasuke smirked.
He ignored Naruto's angry cry of "bastard!"and tossed the book back to Shikaoi.
"We are a team," the three boys said simultaneously.
"You guys..." Kakashi said dramatically the three boys cowering away from the man in anticipation of the implosion about to occur, "pass," Kakashi finished.
Naruto started to cheer and Sasuke smiled at Shikaoi, who smiled back looking up at the sky with a far away look in his gaze.
'Well looks like things are about to get a bit more troublesome,' the Nara thought listening to Kakashi explaining the significance of the names engraved on the memorial stone.
Shikaoi knew this, but still wanted to be present in the moment, because if his dreams were anything to go by he needed to enjoy the peace while it lasted.
"What a drag," Shikaoi whispered.
"Shikaoi are you coming?" Naruto asked eagerly gesturing towards the ramen stand.
Sasuke hned questioningly.
"I'm fine just tired," Shikaoi reassured the slightly older boy.
Sasuke hned in understanding.
"Calm yourself dobe the ramen isn't going to up and leave," Sasuke called out. Pointedly ignoring the glares that the blond was getting from the other villagers.
"But, ramen teme!" Naruto whined.
"Coming," Shikaoi replied, "hey, Sasuke have you tried ordering tomato ramen?" Shikaoi asked the Uchiha who hned in interest.
