Sparks In The Wind
-dedicated to Tulan-
Chapter One: Battered Flame
Katsuki had always thought jumping off a roof was a good idea.
He'd always thought about the battering wind attempting to smother his flame, and failing. Everyone was supposed to fail when they faced him, so why not the very wind itself?
He would've tried it, faced the wind, except there was one person that didn't completely crumble into ashes. It was Deku, a kid with no power and no support and no love. A kid with nothing.
Yet Deku would grin at him everyday, as if the flames weren't hot enough, and the fire wasn't high enough, and the wind wasn't meant to be battled with in the first place. He wished Deku would stop not-failing against him.
Katsuki tried every way to break him down, to take him and show him exactly how useless he was against the kind of fire Katsuki harbored inside.
Deku just kept on smiling, and Katsuki might've accepted long ago that he wasn't going to crumble. Because he'd always wondered how the boy did it, kept on not-failing and kept on grinning. So, maybe his flames were a little bit different when he used them on Deku.
Maybe they were still scorching hot, but with a passion he didn't yet understand. So, he told Deku to do what he did.
"Jump off a roof and wish for power in your next life." Because Katsuki had always wished for the kind of power Deku had, and he'd always thought he could find it by battling the wind.
