There was an earth shattering crash, that was preceeded by freighting screams. Kenshi didn't need eyesight to figure out that one of the towering bases in the distance had toppled to the ground. Kenshi's thoughts could not dwell too long for the poor souls that were trapped within, as he was in the thick of the fighting himself. So far he had stood his ground against every foe who had challenged him. Kenshi let his endless rage guide him. How could Raiden have allowed that scum Shang Tsung to fight beside his armies? He knew what Shang Tsung had cost all of them. He brought this invasion to them, killed Kung Lao, and most importantly to Kenshi, he had stolen the souls of his ancestors, and his vision.
Kenshi could not convince Raiden to execute Shang Tsung. He had spent the previous nights arguing that Tsung was too dangerous, and morally twisted to be relied on. Raiden replied by repeatedly stating that Shang Tsung's dark magic was too valuable to this war, but after this war nothing was going to stand in Kenshi's way of getting the revenge he so longed for. Until that time would come, he would easily imagine that every challenging foe was in the form of Shang Tsung, and he would cut them down with such ferocity much like how he would strike down the real demon that had tormented his mind for many a great years.
Kenshi had sliced, and diced many Tarkatan's with great ease. They weren't much of a threat to him. Sento had been lodged into the mouth of one unlucky Tarkatan, and had came out the back of it's head. Kenshi met another one who charged at him with it's blades extended. Sento's voice guided Kenshi into parrying the blades, and then commanded Kenshi to propell itself into the tarkatan's abdomen. As the Tarkatan's intestines plopped onto the floor. Kenshi sliced it's throat down to the bone, and listened to it's fearful gurgling as it dropped to the floor.
Kenshi blindly wandered around the battlefield. His high sense of hearing allowed him take note of any enemy who approached. The footsteps he could make out in his vicinity decided his movements. He sensed a Tarkatan running up from behind, and swiftly turned to swipe it's head clean off in a single stroke. He found it somewhat difficult to ignore the screams, and pleas of the fallen earthrealm defenders that surrounded him, but he had to stay focused or he would be amongst those very same fallen. He listened upon a pair of feet a few paces away, and realized instantly that those were not befitting of a Tarkatan. He felt the beast's roar as it's feet etched closer.
Kenshi drew Sento to his side, and prepared his attack. He swiped but had only cut the wind. The beast had evaded the bladed edge of Sento, and with a mighty backhand, had sent Kenshi flying to the ground. Dazed, Kenshi pressed himself into a lounging position. He felt the Shokan drawing near, and rolled away hastily from a massive stomp that would have flattened him into the concrete. Kenshi jumped to his own feet, and peeled back a layer of skin from the Shokan's calf with his sword. In reaction, the Shokan bellowed, and smacked Sento free from Kenshi's grasp. The blade soared high over the heads of hundreds, and disappeared deep within the chaotic crowds around them.
Kenshi's hightend senses were instantly nulled, and now he was becoming overwhelmed by the sounds of the battle raging around him. Fear flooded through his veins. He was incredibly vulnerable. He was given no choice but to flee from the attacking Shokan, who had laughed deeply at the sight of Kenshi's retreat. Kenshi was desperately searching for Sento's location, but it seemed highly improbable. He could not linger much longer on the battlefield in such a state of disarray, and so he ran. He continued until a pair of firm hands clasped his shoulders, and turned him around.
"Kenshi have you seen Jax!" Shouted a familiar voice. It was Sonya. Kenshi could tell by her tone that she was just as fearful as he was.
"No, I haven't heard from him since they crossed the bridge!" Kenshi shouted back. Kenshi felt Sonya's clench tighten up after saying this.
"Where are you going?" Sonya asked after a short pause.
"I lost Sento in the fighting! I can't do anything but die in there now!" Kenshi spoke as honest as he could.
"Let's get you into one of the buildings!" She yelled as she moved her hand down to Kenshi's back to begin guiding him through the carnage.
As they sprinted Sonya spoke. "The Black Dragon have pretty much been wiped out!"
"Kano, Kabal, and most of their gunmen were taken out when that skyscraper fell! That dragon is still flying over our heads raining down fire! This isn't looking good!" She finished dreadfully.
"Is there nothing we can do?" Kenshi asked. Sonya didn't answer.
Kenshi felt defeated, powerless, and hopeless. Maybe he wouldn't be the one to finish Shang Tsung. Prehaps another would have done it by now. Kenshi felt he was going to die here. They would all meet their deaths here.
After what seemed like an eternity, Kenshi, and Sonya had finally managed to reach a small building that was surrounded by armed soldiers of the Special Forces. Kenshi felt Sonya's hands depart from his body, and then sensed four more grab onto him softly.
"He's blind." Sonya informed the two men who were supporting Kenshi. "Help him inside."
"You're going back out there?" Kenshi called out to her before she could take off.
"Jax, Johnny, and the others are still out fighting, and my men will need me out there." She stated.
"Wait!" Kenshi cried out, stopping her in her tracks again.
"If you meet up with them, tell them not to touch Sento if they find her! Anyone other than me who touches her will be blinded!" Kenshi warned.
"Understood!" Sonya called back. "If any of us make it through this we'll meet back up here!" She disappeared in quick order, and Kenshi was helped inside. The buildings walls did nothing to block out the sounds of the battle. The dragon's fire hissed aloud, and the screams only grew more heart wrenching. The soldiers were assisting Kenshi through a hallway, and then into a room. He was carefully sat onto a chair. He hadn't felt so embarrassed since the days he first lost his vision. As he sat at a desk he placed his head down upon it in defeat.
After the soldiers had left him. He quickly realized that he wasn't alone in the room.
"Hush now children, everything is going to be alright." Whispered a voice of a woman. Kenshi lifted his head up slowly.
"I'm scared!" Cried a little girl.
"I know you are sweetie, but we're safe in here I promise. We've got brave soldiers outside protecting us." The same woman spoke. Kenshi put it together in his mind. He was in a room littered with civilians.
"I need to go out there, and help them!" Came a frail, and elderly voice.
"Quit being an idiot Tom!" An elderly female voice scolded. "This isn't Vietnam! You'd die in a heartbeat to those monsters!"
"I've survived being married to you for fourty years haven't I?" The old man retorted. Kenshi felt ashamed being here. He was as fearful as a child, and as useless as an old man.
