A/N: So I love the Tales series especially the relationships between Zesteria and Berseria. Playing through Berseria and Zestiria a second time I loved seeing all the connections between the two. Being me I looked for fanfics that crossed the two over and noticed all of them seemed to have the Berseria crew appear in the Zestiria timeline but never the other way around. So that is what the fanfiction is doing.
According to Lailah, there was an Iris Gem that could be found in Lastonbell. It was this reason that Sorey had changed route and was heading towards Lastonbell to find the Iris gem and get more insight into the Lord of Calamity Heldalf. Unfortunately, it wasn't as a quick of a route as planned and he soon found himself face to face with a character he would rather avoid.
"Hey, what you twerps up to now? Trying to save some more dragons?"
Sorey turned around to see a shirtless Wind Seraph leaning against a tree smirking.
"ZAVEID!" Sorey angrily yelled.
Zaveid only grinned more and continued polishing the gun in his hand.
"You didn't answer my question... Perhaps someone else can? Edna?"
"Why would I answer you?"
"Woah, Woah a temperamental one. Ha-ha Just like Eizen, you look a lot like Eizen too!"
Edna raised her eyebrow.
"You mentioned a pact with my brother before? What is your relationship to Eizen?!"
Zaveid pushed himself up from the tree.
"Answer for an answer, I don't give information for free. So how about you tell me where you are headed, and I will tell you about my pact with your brother."
"No way that's happening!" Mikleo interrupted.
"Shut up Meebo, does it matter if he knows? I want to know about my brother!" Edna snapped back.
"Please let's all calm down and think about it reasonably, Zaveid why are you so interested in where we are going?" The fire seraph tried to reason.
Zaveid smirked.
"Don't touch the Iris Gem in Lastonbell, I heard it's cursed. That's where you were headed wasn't it?"
Sorey gasped.
"Yes, but how did you know?! And what do you mean cursed."
The wind seraph feigned surprise at being asked these questions before answering
"With the direction, you are headed in, unless you were going for a leisurely stroll, the only city at this end of the Meadow of Triumph is Lastonbell. Besides a little birdy told me you were looking for the Iris Gems."
"While that is true Zaveid, what did you mean by cursed?" Lailah asked.
"No clue, I'm a Seraph does it look like I meddle with witchcraft?"
"While this is great and all. We told you your info so what is your pact with my brother?" Edna growled out.
"Chill, chill little miss reaper sister. I knew him when he was a part of THAT crew. Things happened and I owed him, so he made me promise to kill him if he turned into a dragon so he wouldn't hurt the one he cared about. You. And don't ask why he knew he would become a dragon. It's the same reason he left in the first place."
Edna stared shocked.
"He... He asked you to kill him to protect me?"
"Zaveid the Oathkeeper was my name at some point… Kind of vanished with time... But that is a promise I will keep if it's the last thing I do. I owe that damn reaper."
Sorey listened in concerned the conversation would get out of hand. He was concerned by how Zaveid kept mentioning Edna's brother as a reaper. Was he insulting her brother?
"Edna, why is he calling your brother a reaper?"
"Because that is what he is," Zaveid replied slyly.
"Or, at least what he called himself," Zaveid added on as an afterthought.
"Seraph Edna, your brother is a dragon?" Alisha asked confused.
"Yes, but he was once a Seraphim. Humans are so ignorant. Dragons are just Seraphim tainted with Malevolence."
"Thank you for bestowing your knowledge on me Seraph Edna."
Rose snorted under her breath about the formality Alisha used but then thought about what Edna had said.
"So, is it not possible to purify a dragon?"
It became deathly silent before Zaveid spoke up again.
"Once a Seraph is turned into a dragon they lose their identity and fail to recognize a friend from a foe. At that point, the only way to save them is to kill. Sometimes death is salvation. It is a harsh cruel world."
"Alright, enough with this dreary talk! Onward to Lastonbell!" Lailah's cheery voice broke through.
"Not going to heed my warning. Fine, I'm coming with you to tell you I told you so about that Iris Gem." Zaveid sighed.
…...Time Skip to Lastonbell….
Once in Lastonbell Lailah suggested they go ask Sergei if he knew about the Iris Gem and direct them to it.
"May I ask why you wish to know the location of the cursed Iris Gem, Shepherd Sorey?" Sergei asked concerned.
Sorey looked back at Lailah for help who shrugged her shoulders.
Zaveid simply gave a muffled "told you so".
Sorey scratched the back of his head nervously.
"You see, we need to take a look at it to um, properly take care of Shepherdly business."
Sergei raised an eyebrow.
"Shepherdly business?"
"Uh, you see, we need it to look into ways of helping this fine city." Rose helpfully supplied.
"Oh of course then, the Iris Gem is found in the Sanctuary, please be cautious Shepherd Sorey. No one has dared to touch because of the curse."
"Uh, what exactly is this curse you speak of anyway?" Rose asked.
"To be honest we knights have no clue, no one has actually seen the curse in action, but it is dangerous enough that no one has touched it for years."
"Thank you, Sergei, we appreciate it."
Zaveid gripped Sorey's shoulder as they walked out of the Knights tower.
"Are you still thinking of getting that Iris Gem?"
"We have to get as much information as possible to defeat Heldalf. I think so."
"You are crazy kid, but if that's the case I'm tagging along."
Entering the Sanctuary nothing seemed out of the ordinary. An Iris Gem sat on the Alter glowing faintly. Sorey walked over and gingerly picked up the gem.
"See? Nothing is happening!" Sorey exclaimed confidently.
"Uh, Sorey?" Rose asked with a worried tone.
"Huh? What?"
"Your hands... Your assimilating kid." Zaveid spoke.
Sorey looked down and noticed his body seemed to be vaporizing and being drawn in towards the gem.
"Dammit, Sorey what did you do!?" Edna exclaimed as the rest of the party's bodies began to assimilate with Sorey. Everybody that was in the room at the time was being sucked in the nastily glowing cursed gem. The last thing Sorey saw was glinting green before everything went black.
…..
Zaveid groaned and opened his eyes. He looked around confused. They were no longer in the Lastonbell Sanctuary that was for sure. He noticed that whatever town he was in was relatively small. He also spotted something that looked oddly like a prehistoric form of Lastonbells Radish bells. Literally everything about this town looked distantly familiar. Edna stirred and looked around.
"Where are we?" she groaned.
A woman seemed to hear her.
"Oh, dear I didn't see you there! Are you okay? Welcome to Stonebury our quaint little town. It isn't much but it is our goal to expand."
Edna and Zaveid looked at each other their thoughts confirming their own suspicions.
Edna looked up at the woman.
"Thank you, I'm afraid we got lost and might have passed out without looking at our surroundings."
"Not to worry, Stonebury is quite a bit away from any of the bigger cities. Please rest at our Inn while you recover."
At that moment the rest of the party began to stir.
"Where are we?" Sorey asked.
"Stonebury, Sorey you got us in deep trouble," Edna grumbled.
"Huh what do you mean? Where is Stonebury anyway?"
"We didn't move physical locations idiot. Stonebury IS Lastonbell only about 1000 years in the past."
Mikleo almost choked on his spit.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 1000 YEARS IN THE PAST?" Mikleo yelled out.
"Keep your voice down. Unlike in your time, humans can all see Malak ... so if you don't shut your zip trap people will look over Meebo." Edna hissed.
"You... You don't mean that the Iris gem sent us here?" Lailah gasped.
"Likely, very likely. You better get used to the new terms though unless you want to attract attention. I don't know how old you are Lailah but I doubt you were alive during this time. We are Malakhim and the things you called Hellions are Daemons, got it? Humans can see Malak and Daemons so act semi-normal in public. This is also the age of both the first Shepherd and Lord of Calamity."
Zaveid said with a hushed voice.
"Oh, wonderful yes! Why don't we seek out the current Shepherd for help?" Lailah suggested.
Sorey was about to agree when both Edna and Zaveid rapidly replied "NO!"
"Huh? Why not? The Shepherd is always a good figure for the savior." Mikleo protested.
"Well, that's where you are wrong Meebo. This one was going about saving the world the wrong way. Try sealing away free will. No, our best hope is not the Shepherd."
"Then what do we do Ser... Malak Edna?" Alisha asked concerned
"First I suggest you stop inserting a title in every sentence princess… secondly, we find young me and your brother Edna."
"My … My brother?"
"If we find your brother, we find Lady Calamity."
