Daken made his way down the hall toward the hangar after the meeting. The last thing he needed to worry about was Laura and her kids being out there when the government had the Murasama blade in their hands. It was one thing to lose Logan, but it would be another if he lost his sister, nieces, and nephew. He heard two sets of footsteps behind him and knew exactly who they were, but he kept moving. There was no time for him to stop when all hell's breaking loose in the states.

Sometimes he really hated his choice in moving to America.

"Daken! Slow down," he heard Johnny call.

"Akihiro, wait a second, okay?" He heard Bucky next, and he stopped in his tracks and took a breath before turning around. "I know you are upset. It is a lot to take in, but you need to think about what you are going to do."

"I did. I'm going to get my family here safe. At least the ones I can."

"But you're planning on going alone. That's too dangerous. What if you get caught? You have a son now. What will happen with him?" Johnny questioned.

"Bucky is a good father to him." Daken said and turned back around. Bucky looked at his partner incredulously.

"Whoa, wait, you are not going out there and getting yourself killed." He told him, grabbing his arm. "And Keegan will not grow up without you. You're going off about family and seem to forget you have a brother and son here at this place right now that looks up to you and counts on you for answers." he paused. "And you have me." Bucky added.

It took a moment for it to click in Johnny's mind what had just been said before he looked back and forth between the two. "Wait." he said, putting up his hands. "The two of you? Really?" he asked . "Huh, I would have never guessed. Especially after we…"

"Wait, you and him?" Bucky asks Daken. "Really, this pretty boy?"

"Oh, don't even start when you have a history with that boy scout." Daken rolled his eyes. "And I really don't have time for this. Yes, Johnny and I slept together about...25 years ago. It was what it was,."

"You don't even know where they are."

"A few years ago I gave Laura these stud earrings and she wears them all the time. There are trackers in them with the understanding that I wouldn't constantly check in on her. They would only be used for emergencies, and this is an emergency, besides I am almost positive I know where they would go." Daken told them both. "So both of you stop."

"I'm going with you as backup." Bucky said. "Besides with those kids leaving for S.H.I.E.L.D, you can't take the larger jet in case of an emergency. "I have the smaller Quinjet. We can take that. It can hold seven or eight people."

"I'm going too. You might need more than close range attacks."

"You need a break, and to focus on Karla. You lost.."

"I don't want to talk about Sue right now, Daken." Johnny told him sternly.

"Alright. Also, I go by Akihiro off the field. Daken is my codename only." he explained. Johnny nodded and continued to follow the two. "I still think you should stay here with your kids."

"Kielar wants nothing to do with me, and Karla…" he paused. "Kielar needs time with his sister. He won't go see her with me there. Besides, if you know where they might be, then it should be a quick trip, right?"

Montana- Old cabin

Laura Kinney walked back toward the cabin with a stack of wood. They had arrived the day before and she had immediately handled any of the wounds on the kids, though most of them had healed. She worried for Kestrel though, not having the same healing ability her siblings had made her more susceptible to being injured. Luckily for them, there were three others who had healing abilities. Charmaine was in the roughest shape. Laura was glad they had found the truck before they could make it out of Kentucky. It had just been too late; they had removed Charmaine's wings. They knew that Jayson and Charmaine's wings were connected to their healing abilities. While she was healing, it was slower than usual. So her daughter was in bed for the time being and it was driving Laura crazy. She hated any of her children being harmed, especially after having lost Joshua a few years earlier.

As she made it closer to the cabin she saw her son in the hammock closest to their temporary home. She shook her head at the sight, knowing that he was dealing with everything he felt on his own, it was how she handled things, and avoiding family was the number one way to do that. Laura had briefly spoken to him in one of the stolen cars they had used to get across the Midwest while his sister slept in the back. He blamed himself for a lot of the things that happened at the farm, the people he couldn't save, and it broke her heart to hear her sixteen-year-old son tell her he would have switched places with any of them if he could.

"Making food. Be inside in fifteen minutes." Laura told him as she passed him.

"Alright Mama." He responded, not removing his hat from over his eyes as he spoke. "We got Char the medicine ya told us to give her. She went back to sleep, so I think the pain is more manageable. The stitches are holdin' too. She was talkin' for a few minutes."

"That's good, thank you." She told him.

"Aislin said she wants to go after 'em, and I agree. Nobody hurts my sister like that and gets away with it." He told his mom, finally sitting up. "I know ya wanna go too."

"Sometimes I forget that you four are part Howlett." She smiled a bit. "We can't go anywhere. Our ride will be here by tomorrow morning ."

"What do ya mean, our ride?" He questioned. "We're in the middle of nowhere."

"Your Uncle is coming to get us."

"Which one, business or mohawk?" Jayson enquired.

""Mohawk. You see these?" Laura asked, pointing to her little stud earrings. "They're trackers, very private, and Akihiro asked me to wear them in case of an emergency. He only activates them when necessary."

"Weren't those white earlier?"

"They turn black when they are on. Your Uncle James helped fund a place in Canada with the help of Stark industries. We'll be safe there. Your sister can get the help she needs and we…"

"Can go fight. I ain't runnin' from this Mama." Jayson told her, getting up. "We gotta get this taken care of before more people get hurt, Aislin and Kestrel agree. Charmaine is a bit of a pacifist, but I'm sure she would agree too."

"I don't want you in the middle of this, Jay."

"They put me in the middle of it the moment they killed Uncle Sam and Aunt Paige. The moment they threatened grandma. No, they came to our home, Mama, and that ain't okay. Nobody there hurt anybody."

Laura went to respond when Kestrel poked her head out the door. "Hey Mama, we turned the shortwave radio on and we got a message from a LeBeau. They're looking for safety. The name sounded familiar…" Laura immediately dropped the wood she was carrying and ran inside.

"Let me listen to it." she said to her daughter as they reached the radio.

"Here, let me help." Aislin said and messed with it for a second.

Da time is 5:11 a.m November 5th. My name is Henri LeBeau, I am here wi' meh family. We are jus' outside Lafayette, Louisiana. We will continue t' move nort' on November 6th. We have five people in our group, if anybody can help, please respond.

"That's Remy's brother." Laura said. "They reported the LeBeau manor gone, but they made it out. They made it out…" she said, relieved. "We need to send a message on the same wave."

"Got it Mama." Aislin said as she set it up. "Here ya go. Ya just speak into it, and ya should be heard. Just remember there might be others on here listening'" Laura nodded.

"Henri, this is Laura Kinney, I am a friend of your brother. We have help coming our way. When they get here I will send you another message so we can come pick you and your family up." Laura ended the message. "Now we just wait."

Canadian Compound- Medical wing

Kielar sat next to his sister, holding her hand as he sang softly to her. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when the skies are gray…" His voice broke, "You'll never know, dear how much I love you, please don't take...my sunshine...away" he whispered the word and wiped tears away from his face. "I know we haven't been the closest lately, Kar, and I know that is partially my fault. I pull away when things are bothering me. I hide. I should have talked to you about stuff, you know? I'm sorry, and I really want you to wake up so we can fix this. You missed it today. Dad defended me. I think he inadvertently told me he was proud of me, too. I wish you could have heard it." Kie pulled away from her for a moment and looked toward the door. "I have one more idea." he shut his eyes and focussed for a moment before his body dropped forward.

Kielar opened his eyes and looked around him, seeing nothing but black. "Karla!" He called out. "Karla, where are you?" The scene shifted around him and he was at a playground, Karla sitting on the swing set. He moved toward her and sat in the open swing at her side. "There you are."

"Hey Kie." She said softly. "I heard you singing, you know. You always sing that when you're sad. I heard you before this too, and I heard dad, I've heard everything."

"Why didn't you come back?" He asked her. "I've been trying to wake you up."

"I know, and I try to follow your voice back. I've been trying to answer, but I couldn't." Karla tells him. "Kie, I don't think I'm coming back."

"No, no. I can help you. We can do it together." He blurted out. "You have to come back."

"Kie Kie." She said, looking at him with tears in her eyes. "I am so tired. I've been trying to come back, but I just get more tired. I stopped trying and just...I waited because I had a feeling you would come see me. You know. Seeing you every day, keeping your head up at school after what they did to you, I was so proud of you for moving forward. You just kept your head up. I know you thought I sent the picture, but I didn't. I also said nothing in your defense though. You should have been able to come out when you were ready, and I should have stopped my friends from outing you." She told him. "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay Kar. It was going to happen and you couldn't have stopped everything, but you were there and you tried."

"You need to talk to Dad. He won't hate you, I promise." She said with a smile. "I think he just hates that you are always with the Starks, jealousy, you know?"

"Maybe you can help us get there, Kar."

"You'll have to do that on your own. I know you will too Kie, you were always so much stronger than me. Smarter too. You'll just have to do this without me there by your side. I'll still be with you though, because we're always together, even when we're apart." She paused. "You are a fantastic Captain America, and you inspire so many people. They don't know it's you, but I hear everyone talk about how amazing you are. You just have to believe in yourself. Everyone else believes in you."

"Kar…"

"I held on until you could come see me. But I can't wait much longer. Kie, please, please don't lose yourself when I go. " Karla moved to him and hugged him tightly. He wrapped her arms around her. "You have such a big heart, and love so freely, do not lose that. Keep fighting, okay? I love you so much."

"I love you too Kar Kar…"

"Bye Kie Kie"

"I'll see you later Kar Kar" He responded, and she faded.

"Much later…" she said as she disappeared from his hold.

Kielar's body jerked awake as he was pushed out of Karla's head. "No..no no no no. Kar!" He yelled out as she flatlined. "Karla! Kar wake up, no." He cried. "Someone help! I need help here."

Josh Foley ran into the room with a few others, one of which led Kielar out of the room. Kielar slid down the wall and rested his head in his lap, crying as he heard them call the time of death. He felt someone sit next to him and an arm went around his shoulders. He looked over and saw Tommy next to him. "I'm sorry, Kie."

"I did our thing...where I went into her head." Kie choked out. "She said she was holding on, so she could say goodbye. I...I don't know what to do in a world without my sister Tommy. We came here together, we learned to do everything, and now there is just...she's gone."

"This is going to sound cheesy as fuck Kie, but she's not left you. I honestly think that, though."

"Thanks TJ"

Montana- Old Cabin

Laura walked out of the cabin on the defense as she heard sounds coming toward them. Aislin was at her side while she had Kestrel and Jayson stay with Charmaine. Her claws came out of her hands as she crouched down. Aislin brought out her own claws and moved to a similar position. It only took a moment before Laura stood up rolling her eyes. "It's only Akihiro and his boy toys."

"I take offense to that Laura." Johnny said after appearing through the trees. "Nice middle of nowhere place you have."

"Last minute arrangement." She said, "We are ready when you are, but we might have a stop to make. We received something on the shortwave radio. Henri LeBeau."

"At least that is some good news." Bucky said. "Do any of you have any injuries?"

"My sister had her wings removed. She's recoverin' but slowly." Aislin told him. "The triplets are inside. I'll let 'em know y'all are here." She said, "Akhiro? Thank ya for coming to get us."

"Your family kid wouldn't leave you behind." He replied as she went to the door.

"I seem to remember that not being the case before Keegan was born. I'm glad you're here too though, and that you brought back up. Coming alone would have been stupid." Laura told him.

"It wasn't without trying." Daken mumbled and moved toward the cabin. Before he could open the door, Kestrel walked out and hugged him immediately. "Hey kid."

"I'm so glad you are here. Is Uncle Jimmy okay?" she asked.

"Yes. He's fine. He would have been here too, but there is a lot going on at the compound."

"Charmaine will be happy to see him. I will too but…."

"I know you like me more."

"Don't be so cocky." Kestrel rolled her eyes at her uncle before looking over at Bucky and Johnny. "Really, two of 'em?"

"Johnny is just a friend." Daken told her. "No, let's get your sister ready to leave." He said as they both moved inside.

Laura turned to the two men but remained silent as she eyed them. "Thank you." she said simply before turning and walking inside to help the rest of her family. Bucky and Johnny looked at each other and shrugged before going to help them.

It didn't take long for the group to get back on the jet and settle. Daken sat down in the pilot seat and put on the headset. "Whoa, slow down. Okay, Dakota. Slow down. We are on our way back now. Okay. We should be there soon. We aren't far from the border. We have to pick others up but we have someone who is injured. Yes, Johnny will be with us. Okay."

"What was that about?" Johnny questioned after hearing his name.

"She wouldn't tell me over the radio." He told him. "Shouldn't be long though, quinjet is pretty fast. Is everyone strapped in?"

True to his word, they were loading a short time later, and as they were exiting, Reed pulled Johnny aside. It wasn't a second later before Reed had his arms around Johnny as the man broke down. Daken stopped in his tracks and looked over at them, frozen in place. "What happened?" Bucky asked him.

"Karla's gone. He lost his sister and daughter in a matter of days. They're both gone." Daken said.
