Jasper's POV

"I was born in Huston, Texas in the year 1844. My Pa was a rich plantation owner and although I am not proud of the fact, we did indeed own slaves.

They worked the vast cotton fields, that had been in the Whitlock family for three generations. I was just a boy of about seventeen, when Texas seceded from the union in 1861."

"My father had an avid dislike of Lincoln and all he stood for as a President. He was also very patriotic and had he been a younger man when the war broke out.

I have no doubt in my mind he would have joined up to fight. I was the eldest of six children and the only boy."

"At seventeen I was more interested in racing my horse against my friends horses. Than I was in politics, but as my fathers only son I was his heir.

When he passed away the farm and everything on it, including the slaves, would be mine. So I thought it was my duty to protect it."

"Not long after all eleven states succeeded, they formed the Confederate States of America better known as the Confederacy.

My father was a member of President Davis' cabinet. When the fighting broke out in April of 1861 at Fort Sumter, my father convinced me to take up arms and help defend both my country and my family from the northern troops."

"He portrayed the Northerners as no good men who shot first and ask questions never. He said they had no care or respect for their or our women and children.

Having been raised a southern gentleman. I was taught early on that women were not less than men. They were gifts from God who should be respected and worshiped. For without women their could be no men."

"So I was angered by the way my father said the Northerners were. I took up arms and joined the Confederate army.

I was good at being a solider. My superiors said I had a natural charisma. One that rallied others to follow my lead and execute my every command. I was also a great strategist and a quick leaner."

"In less than two years, I was promoted to the position of Major. I was evacuating the women and children of Galveston when I was changed into a vampire."

"After having brought the civilians to a safe place I was ordered to head back to Huston to receive further orders.

That's when I stumbled upon Maria and her coven. I thought they were stragglers that got left behind in the rush of the evacuation.

So I dismounted my horse and offered my assistance to them."

"Maria saw that I was a solider and changed me. I woke three days later from the burning of the venom to a new burning. A burning in my throat, Maria wasn't present, but her coven mates Lucy and Nettie wear."

"They were holding a human and before I could understand what was happening. I attacked and drained the human. After the burning in my throat was stated my senses came back to me.

I found myself covered in blood and the body of a young boy no older than ten laid at my feet. I was horrified at myself and at them for forcing me to become this monster."

"After my feeding Maria came into the barn, were I was taken to after she bit me. She explained that I was a vampire and that I needed blood to survive.

When I ask why she had turned me she told me that she was building an army. An army of newborn vampires to fight for her."

"I ask her why she needed an army and she told me she needed us to fight and kill the vampires who killed her coven and mate. When I ask her why her and her coven weren't good enough.

She explained that a vampire is at their strongest when they are first turned. Because we still have our human blood in our tissue our bodies are unstable."

"This instability causes us to be stronger and faster than older vampires. It's also a survival mechanism, she said that most vampires are unable to change humans because they can't stop themselves from draining the human.

Those who accidentally change someone will try to kill them as soon as they wake up from the change. Us being stronger and faster gives up the upper hand so we are better able to defend ourselves."

"There are many downsides to being a newborn though. Our emotions are so much stronger than they were as a human. So we can't control them very well. One minute we can be happy and the littlest thing will piss us off so badly we'll go on a killing spree.

This is were our makers are needed. They are supposed to teach and guide us and a good maker will."

"But Maria had no interest in being a good maker all she cared about was power. So to control us she did unspeakable things to us.

At first I refused to cooperated and because of my refusal to train or fight. I was no longer allowed to feed. I was fine with this I didn't want to kill again."

"Soon though I started to feel immense thirst. When humans were brought for the other newborns to feed on I feed with them. The thirst was just to much for me to handle.

It would take me and Maria many months to figure out that I was not just feeling my own emotions but the emotions of every newborn in camp."

"My gift made me more uncontrollable than the rest. I was feral and I didn't listen to anyone, not Maria, or Lucy or Nettie.

When Maria got tired of my insubordination she used different means then what was used to subdue the other newborns."

"When the newborns were good she would reward them with blood or sex. When they were bad she would starve them.

If they were really bad she would tear off an arm or a leg. With me she forced me to feed from children or women."

"She noticed I tried to avoid feeding from them when I feed with the other newborns. Instead of tearing off an arm or leg she took me apart completely.

Then she'd carry my head around with her and force me to watch as she murdered both vampires and humans."

"For many months I fought her authority and for many months she tortured me. This is how the Major came to be born.

When I could no longer take the pain, I would retreat into myself. When I realized that Maria wouldn't kill me no matter what I did.

I created someone who could do what she wanted. My humanity and my honor would not let me kill the innocent but my inner vampire, or my beast as some vampires call them, had no problem killing."

"Whenever Maria wanted me to do something, I was unable to morally do. I retreated into myself like I did when she tortured me.

My inner vampire would kill or feed and then I would come back. Inner vampires are supposed to be our instincts."

"They're not suppose to be able to think for themselves. But because the Major was out for so long he learned to adapt and act like the vampires around him.

I got so use to him being out that I stopped fighting to come back and let him have the rains. I knew I could never survive in an environment like that.

The Major though had no problem surviving the environment. In fact he thrived in the environment. It would be him who would discover our gift."

"A fight broke out between the newborns over who would get to fuck the new female newborn. Until that point Maria had only turned males.

So a female vampire was a shiny new toy and every male wanted a piece of her. The Major was irritated that day."

"He had not feed in a while and he was in no mood to deal with their raucous. Being older than the newer vampires he had more control over his newborn urges and found their lack of control tiresome.

Maria had come out of her tent to see what all the noise was about and was present when a wave of calm swept throw the ranks of newborns. The Major told them all to shut the hell up."

"Then he turned and went into his tent, the newborns were quite and calm from that point on. Maria while she was fond of the Major knew that his year was coming to an end.

I was a good solider though and the only one left out of her original twelve. My gift and my fighting ability saved me in the end.

Most newborns didn't survive more than three months in Maria's camp. They fought to much amongst themselves or they died on the battlefield."

"If by some miracle a newborn made it to the year mark. Their speed and strength would wan and she would kill them because they were useless to her.

I had never lost a battle though, my time in the military as a human gave me an advantage the others didn't have. And while I got injured sometimes it was never serious."

"The Major being in control only enhanced my advantage over the others. He was deadly and no matter how many battles we fought. We never lost, we became Maria's greatest asset.

Like me though the Major refused to follow her orders and so she did everything in her power to keep him in line."

"If she couldn't keep him in line then she tried to keep him happy. She was playing with fire and she knew it. At any second he could have ripped her apart and been done with her.

She starved him, she overfeed him, she tortured him, she ripped him apart and left him in pieces for many days, and she gave him pets both human and vampire.

After a while the Major just wanted to kill her to end all the crap she was putting him throough. The only reason he didn't was because he didn't know if there was another way to live."

"And while he hated Maria he was almost certain that he would hate another master more. So we severed her faithfully and after awhile the Major became numb to it all and I well, I guess you could say I was sleeping.

I was psychically aware of what was happening around me but I wasn't mentally aware of it. It wasn't until after we would change Peter that we would become more lively."

"The Major had been with Maria for almost twenty years now. Lucy and Nettie were killed in the first ten years of his life when he found them building an army of their own to kill Maria.

Over those twenty years he had been muddling his way throw life. Feeding, fighting, and fucking were all he knew how to do."

"He wasn't happy or even content, he was just numb. The only time he wasn't apathetic was on the battlefield.

He feed without feeling and he fucked without feeling. But when he fought, he fought with a passion that was not present in the rest of his miserable life."

"When he changed Peter he did it because he thought he would make a good solider. And he was right, Peter was a great solider.

Peter had a gift like him, a natural instinct the Major liked to call it. Peter called it just knowing shit."

"Peter was a pain in the ass for the Major though. He constantly followed him like a lost puppy and ask more questions than the Major cared to answer.

But they were good questions that got the Major think, that had him remembering even.

Soon Peter broke the Major out of his fog. And while he still fought for Maria he no longer just fought."

"He read like he used to when he was human. He found a guitar and he learned to play. Peter became his friend, because no matter how many times the Major ripped his arm or his leg off.

Peter always came back and he always stood by his side when they fought. When Peter's newborn phase was over he told Maria he was keeping him."

"Maria allowed it because she knew if she tried to kill Peter she wouldn't live much longer. The Major started to confide in Peter he told him things he never told anyone.

He even told him about me. And we were shocked when Peter said he couldn't wait to meet me. Peter and I did eventually get to meet, and we became like brothers."

"For once I was some what content. While I hated the fighting and the Southern Vampire wars. I was happy to have a brother like Peter.

My happiness didn't last long though. Peter found his mate while he was out hunting. She was badly hurt so he acted without thought and changed her."

"Maria was pissed she and I were the only ones allowed to change humans and she ordered Peter to kill her. Peter refused and Maria tried to kill Charlotte herself.

I stopped her but I could tell that my doing so was the end of our somewhat partnership. While she and I both knew I was the stronger of us, I had always allowed her to lead."

"By taking Peter's side I had disobeyed her and she knew I would no longer be loyal to her. Charlotte was allowed to live and she became a solider for awhile.

But she was a distraction for Peter and they both became a liability to the army. Maria tried to appeal to my militaristic side and get me to dispose of them."

"I was firm and told her no. Peter while a liability was my brother and we had a bond she would never understand.

My refusal pissed her off and I could feel all her glee at having me by her side vanish in a heartbeat. We were no longer comrades we were enemies and many times she tried to kill me."

"The last straw came when she without my knowledge put Charlotte in the group of disposable newborns. Peter and I just bearly got to her before Maria's soldiers could burn her.

We killed her soldiers and put Charlotte back together. That night I told Peter to run and he did."

" Charlotte and Peter tried to get me to come with them but I still had business to attended to so I told them to go on ahead of me.

"With Peter and Charlotte safe from harm I went back to camp and set it ablaze. I single handedly killed Maria's army of fifty newborns."

"I left her for last becasue I wanted to enjoy her death but by the time I was done with her army. The cunt had somehow escaped, for the next five years I hunted her.

Escaping though was Maria's gift and I was always to late. If Peter hadn't of returned and talked me into going with him. I would still be hunting her.

I didn't want to go with Peter at first, I hated myself and believed that a monster like me didn't deserve to find the peace that Peter had."

"Some days I still believe I am unworthy of peace. I guess that's why I went with Alice when I meet her. Living with Peter and Charlotte was enjoyable but I was still unhappy.

My unhappiness was causing them pain so I left them to travel on my own. I was feeding on a would be rapist when Alice came upon me."

"She was so full of peace and happiness that I couldn't help but follow were she lead. After almost half a century of war and despair her bubbly emotions were heaven on earth.

For a while we were happy and despite how nasty animal blood is, I feed on it to keep Alice happy. When I found out that the animal blood was dulling my senses I panicked."

"I was a war harden criminal and many would search for me. I knew the Volturi had a bounty on my head. So I accidentally slipped and feed off a human.

And that was the beginning of the end for Alice and I. Every time I felt I was getting to weak from the animal blood. I would slip and she would feel disgust towards me."

"The only slip I was truly ever remorseful for was your birthday Bella. Even before I found out ya were my mate.

I was drawn to ya Darlin', ya were the only human I saw as more than cattle. I was devastated when I almost hurt ya."

"Alice left me because she was tired of cleaning up my messes as she said. For a while I was apathetic again.

I was happy for the very first time in my life and without her bubbly emotions by my side the darkness returned."

"For a while all I did it was aimlessly wonder in a funk. Only after I feed off a human again did I snapped out of my daze.

Peter and Charlotte tracked me down and convinced me to come live with them again.

It was only after I'd been with them for a while did I realize that Alice had turned me into a tamed puppy."

"I got pissed and went back to the way I used to be. As ya can see. So that's my past sweet pea.

Every sordid, horrible, despicable, thing. Can ya still love me knowing what ya know now?"
