Chapter Four

Yagi Toshinori, also known as All Might, couldn't help but fidget in his seat. He was pushing it; they'd been sitting at the small coffee shop for almost an hour chatting and catching up. Honestly, it was mostly himself and Kagome chatting while Endeavor gave small grunts and one worded response when poked at by Kagome.

He hadn't realized how much he missed this...just sitting and chatting with her and Endeavor. It was something they had done for years, hell he hadn't shared a cup of tea with Endeavor since before they broke the top five. Yet he only had another half hour before he returned to his frailer form, and it wouldn't be wise to let that happen not only in front of them but everyone else that was gathered in the small shop.

They had gathered the second they took their seats, fans of both himself and Endeavor whipped out their phones to take pictures and what not. It was a normal everyday occurrence for them yet it made Kagome uncomfortable and it annoyed him. Luckily Endeavor was not opposed to glaring at his fans and did so, flaring his mask and beard to life as his dark blue orbs glared death at their fans until they backed off.

They were still gathered in the shop but were no longer pointing their phones and fingers at them. They had a ten-foot radius of space around them that only their waiter dared to breach.

"So, Toshi, how was it in America? I bet you broke a lot of hearts." Kagome's teasing voice pulled him from his inner musings, as he rolled her words over in his head. Well, yes he had broken a lot of hearts. Every relationship he had entertained had ended badly, they had wanted to be the only one in his heart but that was spot held by the small woman sitting across from him, almost plastered to the wall as Endeavor sat next to her. His larger body taking up most of the space in the booth.

He glared at the other man, he had been quick to claim the spot while he had been busy signing an autograph. Pulling his gaze away from the frowning man he turned to look at Kagome, licking his lips as he opened his mouth to speak. "I had a few brief relationships but they never lasted long. The life of a pro hero leaves little room for romance." He paused, turning to look at Endeavor. "How's your wife? Didn't you have a son and daughter not that long ago?" He was genuinely curious, after he had moved to America he was hard pressed to keep up with his rival beyond the few reports of his heroism here and there.

Endeavor grit his teeth, his lips were set in a deep scowl, his blue eyes churning with the fury he felt. He felt Kagome shift next to him, turning her head to look at him, wanting to hear his answer. He didn't want to talk about his wife and their failed marriage...

Kagome frowned, feeling the churning sea of emotions rolling under the surface of Endeavor's stony face. She pressed her leg into his under the table, her hand resting on his wrist in a show of comfort. "If you don't want to talk about it we don't have to."

Endeavor sighed through his nose, his body relaxing under her soft touch. "It's fine. I have four children. Three boys and one girl. As for my...wife, we're currently estranged due to personal reasons." The last part was whispered so that they were not overheard.

Both Kagome and All Might could read between the lines, there was much more to the story but he did not and would not discuss it in a public setting. They both respected his unspoken words and quickly changed the topic.

"Wow, four kids...jeez Enji I never took you for a family man." Kagome's laugh was light as she pulled her hand away from his wrist to pick up her cup of boba tea and take a sip from it. Endeavor snorted into his own cup of green tea. "Well, what about you? Weren't you living over in Osaka? Why come back to the city after so long?"

Kagome merely smiled, she knew he and Toshi would have questions. Swallowing thickly she gazed at the colorful liquid, watching as it sloshed around as she swirled the cup in her hands. "Well, I had a rather public and messy break up with my ex. It pretty much ruined my career." She paused, setting her cup down as she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly, her eyes closed to avoid looking at either of them.

"It was mostly my fault...but yeah." She gave a small bitter laugh. "No one wanted to take me on after that so I decided to retire and it was around that time that Midnight reached out to me and offered me a teaching position and well here I am." She laughed, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Endeavor and All Might shared a dark look, both of them had very choice words they wanted to say to her yet it was not the place nor the time. The tension that settled over them was awkward and made them all twitch.

Kagome dropped her hand to rest on the table, opening her eyes to glance at the clock behind Toshi. "Oh, it's later than I thought! As much as I'd like to stay and chat, I have to go meet Midnight at my apartment." She had promised to go to a mixer with the slightly younger woman. They still had a few months until the new school year began and Midnight was determined to help her get back into the dating scene. She wasn't too keen on the idea but she did owe her big time for getting her a job and essentially a fresh start.

Red and blonde eyebrows shot up to their respected hairlines at the mention of the sultry heroine. While neither had worked closely with her she had a reputation in the hero world...one that did not align with Kagome's.

All Might was the first to regain his voice, a slight edge in it as he asked the question that was on both of their minds. "Why is she meeting you at your place?" Kagome blinked at his tone, it was a bit deeper than normal yet she brushed it off.

"She's dragging me to a mixer. She's made it her personal mission to get me back in the dating scene." A light flush dusted her cheeks at the admission. "If you don't want to go you don't have to." It was Endeavor that spoke this time, a frown on his lips as he gazed down at her flushed face.

Blinking, she realized they probably thought that Midnight was forcing her to go, it wasn't entirely untrue but they should know her better than that. If she didn't want to do something she wouldn't do it, so she could only laugh as she waved off their concerns. "It's fine, she's just giving me the push I need to get back out there. I'm not getting any younger...plus I highly doubt I'll meet the man of dreams tonight but I won't find him if I don't try." She laughed at the thought, not at all noticing the tension that entered her male companions' bodies.

At most she would enjoy some food, a few drinks and suffer the company of men who wanted to get into her pants. It wasn't going to happen but hey, if she left the mixer with a few more friends and a couple more numbers to add to her contacts that would be fine by her. She gently nudged Enji's leg with her own, hinting at him to move so she could exit the booth. He did so with a small huff, a frown on his face.

Sliding out of the booth she tossed the two men a bright smile, "It really was good to catch up, I hope we can do it again soon." She quickly pulled out a pen and jolted her number down on the napkin sitting on the table. "Don't be afraid to text me! I'll see you guys around." With that she turned to leave the small cafe, a bounce in her step.

Bright blue and turquoise eyes watched as she left the shop, dread settling in their stomachs.

Endeavor huffed, small flames escaping his nose in his annoyance, the act made All Might give a bark of laughter. "You still have that habit, eh?" Endeavor didn't answer, not that All Might was expecting one. Sighing himself, All Might whipped out his phone and snapped a quick picture of the napkin with Kagome's number on it. He would enter it into his contacts later, for now he just wanted to get home so he could let his body rest.

Getting to his feet he nodded at his companion. "It was good to see you." He meant it, he had missed his rival's company, they had let their competition drive them to far apart, maybe it was time they took a step back and re-evaluated their chosen paths.

Endeavor merely huffed, reaching to grab the napkin to shove it in his pocket. He would have Shoto or Fuyumi show him how to add her number into his contacts. He was loath to admit it but he sucked when it came to 'smart phones', the damn things were far too compacted. Grumbling under his breath he nodded his head, lifting his hand to offhandedly wave goodbye to All Might. "Yeah, I'll see you around." With that he left the cafe, a gaggle of his fans trailing after him much to his annoyance.

All Might could only chuckle as he shoved his phone back in his pocket, his feet leading him outside, a few cans of the cafe's tea clattering in the plastic bag held in his hand. His fans followed his every movement with their cell phones. He knew he would have to make a few calls here and there to keep Kagome out of the media, it was one of the drawbacks of being the number one hero. He would always have to worry about those close to him being dragged through the mud by the media... he hated it. He was jolted from his inner musing by a shrill female scream echoing from a few blocks ahead of him.

"Help! A kid is being attacked!" He perked up, hearing the cries and pleas for help. He had maybe fifteen more minutes left in this form, he would make quick work of the villain before heading home for the night. Mind made up; he stashed his plastic bag in the nearby alleyway before racing towards the cries of help. His eyes widened as a green-haired boy ran head on towards the villain with a desperate cry of Kacchan.
