Matsumoto woke with a start, throwing off the blanket that she was wrapped in with force, "coming!" she shouted her voice barely audible. The pounding continued and seemed to echo through not only her small cottage but her head as well. "I'll be right there." She groaned as discomfort welled and ebbed as she sat up.

Her mind was hazy, but that only meant she hadn't gotten as much sleep as she was accustomed too, maybe she had picked up another shift last night and the fog was just hindering her memory for the time being. A loud crash brought her out of her thoughts and she remembered just why she was feeling so disorientated, she had been awaken by banging.

"I'll be right-" her words died in her throat as the door to her bedroom was violently shoved open. Ishida stood there his gun drawn aiming straight at her.

"Matsumoto, you're alright!" he huffed out of breath, "why didn't you answer your door? Or the phone for that matter?" he was hesitant but after a few moments he slipped his gun back in the holster against his side.

"I was sleeping…."she muttered as if that answered everything, she glanced around for her phone but for the life of her she couldn't remember what she had done with it. "You're pretty out of shape for an agent." She commented as she finally found her bearings enough to get out of bed. She must have really had a long night, she never slept in her clothes, they were just too damn uncomfortable.

"I spent the last 10 minutes trying to find a way in that I wouldn't have to break something, I was unsuccessful, I'll cover the damages just send me the bill." He took a moment to catch his breath looking about her sparse bedroom. "You here alone?"

Matsumoto nodded pulling her long hair into a high ponytail and slipping her jacket off, "I'm always here by myself."

"Your cars not outside, its parked in front of the club. I talked to Hitachi, he said you left at the end of your shift last night. I figured you maybe had a friend over…" he let his sentence trail the implications clear.

"I'm not stupid. I wouldn't do anything to compromise myself. I must've gotten a ride from one of the dancers." To be honest she really didn't have a clue as to what happened last night. She used to drink but after everything that happened to Orihime she had stopped except for the rare drink she shared on the occasional prosperous night.

"I've been trying to get in touch with you the whole night and when I found your car at the club I rushed over here to make sure you were ok." He frowned, glancing away as she began unbuttoning her blouse. "I'll just step outside and make a quick call."

"No need, I'm gonna take a shower, I'll be out in a few," with that she disappeared into the adjoining bathroom closing the door behind her.

Matsumoto stripped and hoped Ishida hadn't walked out of the room. She turned the shower on and let the water run as she leaned against the bathroom door straining to hear anything from the other room. He was indeed on a phone call and he spoke briefly most of it she was unable to hear. She did hear her name mentioned a few times, but nothing else that she could decipher.

Satisfied that he was through she jumped into the shower and quickly washed off the grime she felt that was always caked to her skin from the lewd stares and filthy cigars of the men who frequented the strip club.

Ishida was outside when she emerged from the shower feeling refreshed, "so what's the plan?" he was crouched next to the stairs that led to her porch.

"Are you sure you were here alone?" he glanced up at her a frown deeply etched on his face.

"Of course." Matsumoto tried to comb her mind for any detail that she might have missed, but still all she remembered was leaving the club last night. She wasn't sure how she got home but she was either really drunk or really tired. "Believe me I would know if I had someone over last night."

"Okay." He replied still not convinced. "I don't think you are safe here anymore. I've arranged for you to be moved to another location."

"But why?" could the man who had kidnapped her sister be coming for her too? To her knowledge she had not done anything to give away her real identity.

"It was just a precaution, but now it appears to be necessary. Come inside." He followed her in jarring the door back into its socket. "As you know we have found your sister. Now it's only a matter of time before I can safely extract her."

"You, as in you alone?" Matsumoto asked surprised, "he's just one man, if you know where she is why don't you just take a bunch of men and rescue her."

Ishida gave her a puzzled look, "Aizen Souskue is one of our most wanted international criminals. You have to realize that this is a risky mission, if there is any suspicion he might just kill her. As to why I will be going alone, it's a lot easier for one person to infiltrate his compound then the twenty men that would be needed to take him out."

"I'll finally get to see her again." Matsumoto said with a tremble in her voice, "I always thought I would find her alive but you know you can't always stay positive. There was sometimes this nagging doubt that he had already killed her and the last thing I had ever said to her was 'don't forget dinner'." She smiled wryly. "I trust in you Ishida I know you will bring her out of there safely."

"I'm not as confident as you, but I will do my utmost to do just that. Here." He pulled a phone from his pocket, "it's a throwaway please be more careful with this one."

"Um, thanks." Matsumoto flipped it open and flipped it close once again, "punishing me eh?"

"That's the best I could do. I found it in the back of my car. Once you are relocated you can get a newer model if you prefer. I must go now, please do not go outside and if you hear or see anything strange or feel threatened in any way please call me or any of the preloaded contacts."

"Thanks Ishida, I appreciate everything you are doing for me and Orihime." She hugged him hesitantly and he stilled in her embrace.

"Don't thank me just yet. Please be safe. I'll be in touch." Matsumoto nodded and followed him to the doorway watching as he got into his rental and drove away. ~~

"You are up early, going for another walk?" Orihime jumped in surprise taking a step back.

"You're still here." She replied not acknowledging his question, truthfully that is exactly what she was planning. She was hoping to see Ishida again, maybe he would have time then to explain everything to her.

"I wanted to spend some time with my beautiful wife. Is that a crime?" If he wasn't so bad, he would have been charming. He had a handsome face and a nice smile but the only thing she ever saw when she looked at him was his sick smirk.

"Why don't you spend some time with Loly? She seems to enjoy your company." She didn't care what he did as long as it didn't involve her.

"Don't tell me you are jealous of such a thing, she does provide a good distraction from my marital problems." Aizen set down his coffee cup, "I have an important business meeting today, you know the procedure. Stay out of sight."

"My pleasure." She had been hungry but she lost her appetite. Whenever he had company around she was banished to her bedroom or the gardens behind the mansion.

"Oh, and Orihime no more walks by the gates. It looks very suspicious, understand?" Gone was the hint of a smirk that seem to tug at the corner of his lips, replaced by a menacing frown.

"Of course." She replied just as icily, turning away and heading out towards the back gardens.

She expected to see the usual bustling gardening crew clipping and pruning the hedges but, save for three casual dressed men, the gardens were empty.

All three turned to look at her as she took a seat beneath the rose canopy, she waved briefly recognizing the two regular maintenance men and ishida.

They nodded in acknowledgement then return to whatever they were discussing. After a few minutes of talking the two grounds keepers walked away towards the large shed, Ishida paused reaching into his pocket for something. He pulled out a small handkerchief and removed his glasses wiping them clean.

When he was through he put it away in the other pants pocket as he removed his hand something fell out of his pocket to the ground. He made no effort to pick it up instead headed off in the direction the other two men had disappeared.

Orihime waited until there was no one in sight before she casually made her way over to the discarded bit of paper, she slipped it into her book and returned to her shady little spot beneath the gazebo. She flipped her book open and unfolded the note carefully.

Soon Aizen's guest should be arriving and once she heard the loud buzzer of his arrival she was to go to wait for him beside the hedges that lined the large swimming pool in the backyard. That simple instruction was the only thing written on the slip of paper. She carefully tucked it back into the folds of her book.

Was he planning on stealing her today? It would be the perfect time actually since everyone would be busy taking care of Aizen and his guests need, no one would be paying much attention to her.

"Is that a good book?" Orihime slammed it shut rudely being pulled from her thoughts.

"Yes of course." She answered unsure of why, she didn't owe anything to the woman behind her, although she was keeping Aizen's amorous attentions away from her. "What do you want Loly?"

"Oh nothing, Aizen asked me to check on you and make sure you were being a good little girl." Even though she was more than a foot shorter than Orihime she acted as if she ran things around the mansion because she happened to be Aizen's flavor of the week.

"Not just a plaything anymore, you've added watchdog to your skill set? Look who's been promoted. At least you don't have to spend all that time on your back, am I right?" Loly bristled at her words but her arrogant smirk didn't leave her face.

"Love notes?" She leaned in close ignoring her biting remark, "I think Aizen would be interested to know about your little boyfriend."

Orihime stood easily putting on her best show of air she could muster. She was an actress after all once she made it out of her she would be a finely tuned instrument "Don't you mean Mr. Sousuke? You are just a servant if you've forgotten, nothing you could do will make you more."

"I may just be a maid but it's my bed he's warming every night."

"Yes but my face he's imagining as he's touching you." Loly sneered, a frown replacing the reveling smirk she had worn before. "If I wanted you would be gone, back to whatever little hole you crawled out of." Orihime laughed, "Yes, I have a lover but you won't say anything about it will you?"

She was reaching for straws, nothing she said affected anything that Aizen did. If anything Loly probably had more pull around the place than she did, but it was worth a try, she wouldn't let this girl walk all over her and risk foiling her escape.

There must have been some truth in what she said because Loly was backing down, she crossed her arms in front of her. "For the moment I won't, but don't piss me off understand?"

"Of course let's call it even. You'll have Aizen and I'll have the gardener, it seems more than fair don't you think so?"

Loly's lips opened to respond but then the loud buzzer that signaled the large gates opening went off and she smirked, "Just keep out of my way, and out of sight." She turned on her heels and disappeared into the back door.

Orihime didn't waste any time as she approached Ishida pulled her into a small pocket between the large hedges. "Shh it's me, don't scream." He whispered then released her when she nodded. "Did any one see you?"

"No I don't think so. I didn't know these were hollow." She took a step back awkwardly putting some space between them.

"We must keep this brief, I'm not sure how long Aizen's guest will be staying. In a few days Aizen is planning on having a private party, he has commissioned the company I work for to do some extensive changes to the grounds."

"The FBI does lawn work?" she had half meant it as a joke but the look on Ishida's face told her that he didn't have much of a sense of humor, "Sorry." She apologized again not sure of her actions. Maybe because he was a secret agent or maybe that was just his personality.

"There will be a lot of extra people coming in and out at that time, it will give us the perfect opportunity to get you out without his knowledge." He pulled off his jacket and turned it inside out. He ripped it at the seams and pulled out a small brown pouch.

"That's smart." She remarked drawing closer to him, "good way to smuggle stuff in."

"I may not get to speak with you again, so I came prepared." He handed her a small bottle of liquid, "ipecac," then a small plain looking cellphone, "it's untraceable. And last but not least he handed her a small notepad."

"What's ipecac?" she turned the bottle over in her fingers trying to read the instructions.

"It makes you sick." He answered, "Keep the cell charged I'll be in contact when I learn more information." He shrugged on his jacket then slowly reached for her. "Shh." He whispered as he neared her, "act normal."

"What?" she answered her voice coming out louder than she meant for it too. "Why are you whispering?" he pulled her into his arms and she nearly shrieked, but his lips muffled the sound.

Her eyes widened as she tried to pull away, he pushed her gently against the hedges, pulling her arms around his shoulder deepening the kiss. His eyes flitted away from hers and she stopped resisting.

"We have an audience." He whispered as he ghosted a kiss from her ear down the smooth column of her neck. "Just go along with it." He awkwardly kissed along her neck trying to ease out of the line of sight.

"Um… mm…" Orihime moaned and Ishida gave her a sharp look. She was out of her element, she didn't know what to do in this situation, and wouldn't moaning be the most natural reaction? Ishida ceased kissing her neck and kissed her lips again, quieting any more uncomfortable sounds that she would have made.

The uneasiness of the situation slowly dissipated and she forgot what exactly was happening. He was kissing her his tongue expertly exploring her mouth, the friction of his tongue against hers only enhanced by the way he tasted, like peppermint tea. She hadn't been kissed so long or so thoroughly before and it was making her head spin.

She didn't know when her eyes had closed or when she had relaxed so much in his arms until abruptly he pulled away straightening his dark eyes darted once again behind her. He retreated as far back away from her as possible, "sorry. It was the only thing I could think of."

Orihime turned away from him trying to get her bearings back and to stop the flaming in her cheeks, "okay…" was what came out, "I- mean.." what did she mean? "It's better for him to think I have a lover than trying to make my escape."

"Um, yes exactly." He answered although his voice was thick. "I'm not sure who that man is but I have not seen him on the grounds before."

"Maybe he's Aizen's guest?" she had finally reigned in her rampant senses and turned to face him, "either way I should get going." She reached down to pick up the discarded items that Ishida had given to her earlier tucking them into her breast pocket.

"I'll be in touch. Be safe Orihime." He replied pushing the thick branches of the hedges apart so that she could slip through, she could feel his eyes on her as she made her way back to the gazebo.

As she took her seat beneath the shade watching him disappear into the grounds building, she wondered if he felt just how fast her heart was beating or how much she had lost herself.

Yorichi had slept the whole trip back he had let her feeling content to just watch her. He had known something was up when she had conveniently been in the same place as time as a high profiled murder was supposed to go down. She hadn't wanted to explain everything in detail when they had finally made it to his apartment but she had given him three names. Two he was familiar with and one he had never heard before.

The bureau had their investigation going on one of them, Aizen Sousuke but they could never seem to get any direct evidence to pin his name to any of the crimes he had committed. It was a very hard task tracking down the other man, Nnoitra Gilgia, he never stayed in the same place too long and when he did there was always a trail of bodies that could be associated with him. For a long time he had fallen off the map, and they had shelved his case, until a recent string of brutal murders in the Tokyo area reeked of his mo.

"What do you want?" he barely threw him a glance as he walked across the empty room towards the only appliance he seemed to own, a fridge.

"Just want to ask you some questions, I'm not here to bust you or anything. Although you do have several outstanding warrants…" he pulled a thick stack of papers from his case and threw them on the floor, "just a few."

"The fuck I care." Nnoitra smirked setting down the beer he had been chugging, "you can't prove anything."

"You may be right." Kisuke answered with a shrug trying to get comfortable on the hard seat. "Let's get to the point shall we? There is a set-up going on and I don't like who the evidence is mounting up against or who the clues are pointing to."

"And that has what to do with me?" truthfully nothing, he was very surprised that he was this calm. All the tales about this man painted him as a blood thirsty man who killed without discrimination. There was a dangerous energy that emanated from him but it didn't scream serial killer or psychopath. More like a warning to watch each p' and q' in his presence.

"Nothing really, if you don't count the ties you have with Aizen and the daughter of the former judge. You really must be heartless, to be able to stalk and kill her father and then a week later strike up a relationship." Kisuke scoffed, "puzzling really."

"That doesn't fucking mean anything, she's a slut she would have opened her legs to any man at that point. As for Aizen, I free-lance. There's nothing to link me to him." He took another swig of his beer and then for the hell of it threw the bottle against the opposite wall. The glass shattered sending hundreds of tiny pieces flying in every which direction. "Any more questions Mr. Urahara?"

"Just one. Does the name Yorichi Shihoin ring a bell with you?" chances are he was going to deny any involvement with framing her, but it was worth a shot. Maybe he really didn't care about being caught or the stack of warrants that were on his head. He was smart, he knew they couldn't pin anything on him, he was meticulous in his killings although devious.

"I know of her." his sickening smirk widened, "She's Aizen's bitch right?"

It took everything in Kisuke not to jump from his seat and punch him right in his face, instead he schooled his features into one of indifference knowing full well Nnoitra was gauging his reactions. "You tell me."

"Why should I? Who cares who she fucks? You do don't you? Or else you wouldn't have blown your operation and sought me out, am I right detective?" he laughed the sound echoing through the dark room.

"She is an innocent-"

"No, not innocent, stupid. No body screws with Aizen without repercussions. It's just a matter of time before she has to face the consequence."

"So you know why he's after her." Any information he could get would put him on some kind of path to helping her un dig the massive crater she was now sleeping in.

"perhaps." He shrugged indifferently, "but there's nothing in it for me. She takes the fall she's locked away forever perhaps even put to death, I get off scot free."

"How are you so certain?" this whole exchange was like a guarded game of cat and mouse, he baited Nnoitra relented just enough to hint that there was something and then retreated back into his little hole.

Nnoitra laughed, the same shit-eating smirk on his face, he had the upper-hand and he knew it. "This is what you are going to do. You're going to go back to your little office and sit behind your little desk and go fuck yourself."

"Well I'll make a note of your suggestion." Kisuke replied nonplussed picking up his discarded briefcase. He flipped it open revealing rows and rows of neatly stacked bills, "its about two mil, some heavy stuff beneath that if that's what you are interested." He lifted a few of the bills to expose several baggies of narcotics and hard street drugs. "I'll leave this right here, maybe return with more if needed."

"Bribery? Not your own funds I suspect." He didn't need the money, this was petty cash to him. What he did was never about the money. The drugs wouldn't be of any use to him either, he much rather abuse someone else.

"Of course not, whats the point of being the head of the division if you can't take a little something on the side." Kisuke slid the briefcase towards him.

Nnoitra kicked it closed but didn't make any effort to pick it up, "You must know this won't change my mind."

"Yes I know, but its tempting isn't it." Kisuke sighed and got up. "I knew it would come to this." He lifted

his gun to put it away in the holster and retrieve his cellphone.

There must have been something threatening in his movements because instantly Nnoitra's long leg shot out stomping the floor board of which he stood. The board gave way and a pistol erupted from the floor, he caught it easily and had it trained on him in the blink of an eye.

It was Kisukes turn to laugh, "Prepared for anything?"

"It helps in this line of work."

"Understandable. Like I said I'm not here for anything but some information. I didn't want to use my trump card but I'll have to." He tucked his gun away into the waistband of his jeans. "You seem to spend an awfully lot of time at Ms. Odelschwanck's home. Even when your base is halfway across the country, so I've made the assumption she means something to you. With one phone call I could have her removed, every trace of her erased."

Kisuke knew very well that it was a stretch, from the comments early he realized that she didn't hold any significance to him, she was just probably something warm to stick his dick in and that meant nothing to him, woman were a dime a dozen to him each one interchangeable to another. But she was the only person he had come into continuous contact with and not murdered so there must be a reason as to why.

"That's your trump card? Should have played her first."

"okay." Kisuke casually pulled his cellphone from his coat pocket holding it with his one hand his eyes on Nnoitra he began dialing random numbers. The thunderous shot that accompanied the flash of light was what he had planned for and the sizzling of inside mechanics was his fat lady singing. "Trigger happy? I was prepared." He pulled another cellphone from the pocket on the opposite side.

"Leave her out of this."

"I would love to. Although she has already dug her own grave being with you." The poor girl, she was really innocent in all this, not knowing what kind of man she had opened her heart too. "I just want to know why Yoruichi is being framed for these murders."

Nnoitra was silent for a long while perhaps weighing his options, perhaps thinking of whether the best thing to do was shoot him dead where he stood. Kisuke hoped he would realize they were in the same boat, doing something to protect a person they cared about.

"She stole some tapes that have some incriminating footage, But Aizen's got his hands in a lot of pockets."

"So she has evidence that ties Aizen to murder? Corruption? There's a long list of crimes that he had the pleasure of orchestrating and committing." She didn't mention any of this, he suspected that maybe she hadn't trusted him in the first place an now he knew he had been right.

"Fuck if I know." That seemed to be his closing statement because he didn't offer up any more information.

"Thanks." Kisuke headed towards the door leaving the briefcase. "Would it be too forward of me to offer some advice? If I was you, I would think about another line of work, and what your priorities should be."

Nnoitra said nothing and Kisuke hadn't expected him to, he walked out closing the door quietly behind him. He didn't have time to be thinking about others problems, he had to concentrate on finding out where Yoruichi hid the evidence.

Rukia had spent most of the day searching the criminal database for a match of renji's composite sketch. He had scanned it in and fleshed it out into a 3d model.

Before she even started she knew it was a dead end, but it was worth a shot. Maybe he was international and that's why he wasn't showing up, or maybe he was as good as he appeared and didn't leave footprints.

Renji pulled out a seat next to her and placed a paper cup of coffee in her hands, "you still trying to find him squirt?" he took a swig of his and smiled at her puzzled look. He took the cap off his drink and she got a whiff of sake, "coffee doesn't do anything for me. Gotta get my pick-me up seeing as this is gonna be an all-nighter."

"Thanks, but you don't have to stay." Rukia set down her cup allowing the hot liquid to cool a bit, "you probably have plans."

"Of course I do, I'm young and single and incredibly hot!" he winked at her and she playfully smacked his arm.

She liked having him as her partner, they had a dynamic that worked well. He was funny and flirty and brought her out of her shell, she was serious enough for the both of them keeping them on track enough to get their cases completed. "Well don't let me stand in the way of all your girlfriends."

"You know you are my favorite so don't be-" his cell phone rang cutting his reply short, "yes, speaking." He rose to his feet and paced a few steps away from her, just out of earshot.

Rukia shrugged and logged off of the database taking a much needed break to drink her coffee, she really didn't want to make this an all-nighter. What she wanted to do was crawl under the new comforters Hisana had bought for her last Christmas and sleep until next Christmas. After this case was busted she would do just that, maybe even take a vacation and actually visit her sister.

"Who was that?" she asked as Renji pocketed his cellphone and reached for his worn jacket.

"A tip, don't worry about it. It's for the Momoji case I'm working on. You should really go home and get some sleep. I'll see ya in the morning."

"Just what I was planning. If you need me just ring." She got up too gathering her keys and small handbag. "Just so you know I'm not doing the paperwork."

Renji laughed holding the door open for her as they walked out, "but I'm no good at it and I swear that damn computer hates me."

"Or you hate It, Good night Renji." She giggled waving him off as he headed across the parking lot towards his car. She watched as he opened the door pausing momentarily as he inspected his vehicle before climbing in.

For a moment she watched as he sped out of the lot and headed towards the gates, it only then occurred to her that the Momoji case had already been resolved. ~~

Rukia had ditched her truck away from Renji's destination, the moment he had turned off on Hidden Meadows she knew exactly where he was heading and what case he had really been tipped off about. But why hide it from her? This was her case too.

Renji was still in his car, perhaps waiting for his contact to show up, maybe they had lost their nerve or Kurasaki's men had gotten to him first. As the thought ran through her mind the high-beams of a large truck blinded her momentarily. Rukia shielded her eyes creeping closer to where Renji was parked, carefully to remain hidden.

The man got out first and a chill ran down her spine she couldn't see clearly but she was sure of exactly who it was. Renji met him halfway his tall frame about the same height but his frame was a bit bulkier. If push came to shove Renji would be able to handle him, and she would provide back-up if need be.

Still she crept closer so she could hear what they were discussing, immediately she could feel the tension that was radiating from them. Renji was his usual cool and confident self surveying the situation his voice steady, even mocking.

"you called me out here for what purpose?"

"Just to give you a little warning. No doubt Rukia has given you all the details." He matched Renji's sardonic tone. "Maybe not all the details, but the ones that count."

Renji ignored his insinuation "Obviously you don't know her, she's not going to rest until you and Kurosaki are where you belong."

"Is that true?" instantly he turned to where she was crouched beside the pillar of the apartment building, "you can come out now."

Rukia straightened and took a few steps forward, "you can't just threaten FBI agents and think you are going to get away with it."

"Rukia what the hell?" he said that but she was sure he had known she would follow him.

"Oh so I'm supposed to believe this wasn't planned?" He laughed glancing between the two, "well I have a few surprises of my own."

All three drew their weapons, Rukia trained her standard issue on him his sole attention seemed to be on Renji. "Drop it, the odds are not in your favor. It's us against you and I'm pretty sure this is not gonna end pretty."

Rukia watched him closely his finger was pressed against the trigger at any moment he could pull it, she tried to watch to see if she could pinpoint that moment so she could fire first. "I think the odds are pretty much in my favor. Drop your gun Rukia." He still didn't face her, both guns still on Renji.

Protocol called for her to do as he says, but this wasn't exactly a by the book case. There was no way she would give him the upper hand on them, "I don't think you are in any position to be making demands."

"Suit yourself." he took two steps back and lowered his guns. Two shots fired out and Renji's body collapsed, to his knees in front of him. He groaned in pain clutching his chest. Rukia dropped her gun and ran to where he was sprawled on the ground.

"What do you want me to do with him?" from behind her a massive man appeared his dark features completely cloaked by the night sky.

"Renji everything's going to be ok." She pressed one hand against the spewing blood trying to apply pressure while using her other hand to search for her phone to call for emergency. "Renji stay with me, Renji…." He gasped spitting out a huge glob of blood.

Rukia yelped as she was dragged from his body by the back of her blouse, "Relax, he's not gonna die. He's just gonna take a little vacation." He was pulling her towards his truck. She reached for her weapon and remembered that she had discarded it in her effort to get to Renji. So she did the next best thing, she began kicking him and screaming as loud as her lungs could muster.

"Sado, take care of her will you? I'll go put Mr. Abarai out of his misery."

"Yes." Was his simple answer as he grabbed her crushing her petite frame as he covered her mouth with one of his large hands. He took her behind the apartment complex where there was a running car. His grip on her was deathly, paralyzing any fight she had left in her body. He threw her into the back of the van and gunned the engine, as they sped away her breathe stilled as she heard the echo of two shots ring out.
