Chapter 37: true peace is
~Blake
24 years later...
I thumbed through my blood soaked journal while we drove through the wasteland, silently recalling the memories of each page within. I finally turned to the last page and stared at it.
I stared at it long enough that Athens took notice.
"What's that?"
"My journal." I replied.
"Looks old. How long have you had it?"
"I started it when I started at Beacon and we were selected to have personal trainers."
"That long ago?"
"Yeah." I said solemnly.
"I imagine that there's a lot of good memories written on those pages."
"Yep, and a lot of bad ones."
I continued staring at the last page, silently reading the contents.
"If it's not too personal, what's on that last page? You have been staring at it for an awfully long time now."
"Just a poem that I wrote a few weeks ago."
"How does it go? If you don't mind reading it."
I took a deep breath and started.
Do you remember?
All the dumb times we
had, the memories we made,
the laughter we shared,
and the songs we sang?
Do you remember?
The friends we fought for,
the Grimm we slain,
and the lifestyle we tried so had to maintain?
Do you remember?
The color of the ash and
blood soaked snow when
we finally met the place it all began?
Do you remember?
All the many injuries we sustained?
From Ruby breaking all the bones in her body
to Yang losing her arm?
Do you remember their marriage?
How pretty Sarah looked in her white dress
and how handsome Soap looked in his tux?
The only time you would ever get to see them wear them in the world of the living.
Do you remember how I got the scar on my face?
How it managed to get the better of me
and manipulated me into being something I was not.
Do you remember all the years we spent apart from one another?
The friends we lost
and the friends we gained.
Do you remember how it all started to end?
How after our many years apart
we finally met again?
Do you remember how angry you all were that
even after you found me again
I tried to shrink back into the darkness?
Do you remember the moment we decided to end that grueling war once and for all?
How we left our notes and said our goodbyes?
How we flew off into that night
free of our regrets?
Were you watching when I breathed again and you did not?
Were you watching when I almost destroyed our notes
but didn't to save the last memories I had of you?
When I hid my own note from their eyes?
Were you watching all those many nights I cried,
wishing that you didn't say goodbye and leave me behind?
Were you watching when I learned he still breathed?
When I picked up my blade once again?
When I found myself buried amongst the rubble you left behind?
Were you watching when I teamed up with Athens
and took on an entire city together?
When I swore I wouldn't rest until I found him?
Were you watching when I told them mt resolve
and they told me that they couldn't help me until I was finished?
I don't know the answers to these question cause you have long since departed me, but I can't help but wonder if you will be watching when I make the lights in his eyes turn to black.
Will you be watching then,
when I make his blood run cold?
When he finally lay limp in my arms and his blood run dry?
Will you be watching when I finally can say that I am done and I can rest?
Will you be waiting for me when I finally join you again?
A/N: Not exactly what I originally envisioned to be the next chapter but this works.
I didn't mean to go quite as dark at the end there but kinda just went with it.
I can't wait for the next chapter by the way.
