A/N: More weirdness!
Chapter 39: not through love
~Blake
"So could you please explain to me what happened like I was a small child?" Sarah asked us as she tested her injured leg.
"About the fact that it's going to be a month's worth of time before we can leave?" Soap asked her.
"No, I got that part. Time moves slower here because of the seal you placed on the area so even though it will have been a month here, it will be a week in the real world, yeah yeah yeah, I got that part. What I am asking about is the fact that you two kissed?!" Sarah exclaimed.
Soap and I both looked away in shame.
"I thought that you said that she wanted a three-way relationship?" I asked the man beside me through our bond.
"Wait for it..." Soap started in my head.
"Where's my kiss?" Sarah said walking over to me expectantly.
"There it is! Good luck Blake, her kiss will make your head spin. Enjoy!"
I glared at Soap for a moment before she turned my head her direction and pressed her soft lips to mine. He was right, my head melted when she did.
'She smells so nice.' I thought to myself.
"Looking back on the occasion now, some twenty-four years later, I now know how to put how their kisses' felt into words.
"Sarah's kiss felt as if I was being statically charged and it gave me goosebumps. Her lips were so soft and cold like the air on a snowy winter night. She tasted sweet like a caramel glazed apple and is still one of the best kisses I have received in my entire life.
"Soap's kiss made my head melt from the heat of his lips and the warmth of his breath. His lips were firm yet soft and warm and welcoming like a warm spring morning at the same time. The longer our lips touched the warmer his lips became until the only thing that could compare were the intense fires raging throughout the Kingdom of Vale now. I broke out into a adrenaline fueled sweat at the slightest touch from his skin.
"His lips were sweet with love and passion. I can only compare it to the overwhelming taste of freshly baked cookies.
"Underneath it all was the slightest taste of sadness and an almost non-existent touch of darkness. Though the sadness was barely there, I knew why it was there and where it was from.
"I didn't know what it was at the time, but the minuscule taste of darkness put me at a slight unease; it was that unease that would stay almost hidden for a very long time.
"I guess that's why I ended up hating his kiss so much in the end; cause buried in that darkness was a sinister taste. It was intoxicating and every time he kissed me I wanted more.
"Eventually I came to hate how much I loved it and for a good reason.
"Regardless of how much I hate myself now, over twenty years later, for loving it so much; it doesn't change the fact that it was, and still is, the best kiss I have ever experienced in my entire life."
"Why do you hate it so much now?"
"I'll save the actual events for when we get to that part of the story but to explain a little. Athens, have you ever experienced being drunk, sober, and the process of being intoxicated all at the same time?"
"I can't say I have."
"It was like that only with a much darker aftertaste."
When she finally stopped, I gasped for a breath of air. "What is with you two kissing me until I can't breathe?" I asked them.
They both shrugged.
"Habit?" They responded in unison.
I rolled my eyes at them before I spoke up again, "So what now?"
"We get even more comfortable with each other, we do have a month. We should also train while we're here; the second we return to normal time flow, all of the pain that we should be in right now will hit us like a ton of bricks." Soap said.
"Another side effect of the seal you placed?"
"Yup. And it is going to suck when we get back."
"So, you wanna explain why I haven't seen you draw your weapons since I helped you forge them until yesterday?" Sarah asked her husband.
"Long story short, I used some forbidden dust spells to make them able to kill what we ran into yesterday." He said.
"What we ran into? You say that like they weren't human." I said.
"They weren't; not fully anyways." He said.
"If they weren't fully human, then what the hell were they?" Sarah asked.
"Hell describes them pretty well, but to be more specific they were the offspring of the dark god that the god of light, Yahweh, cast out of heaven. In other words, they were half demons."
"And you said that you don't believe in the god that your parents believed in." I said incredulously.
"I can't say that I do because demons can theoretically be created by Grimm that have just lived a very, very long time with no influence from any sort of god. Also, we aren't getting into this again; I told you last time, I don't know what I believe."
"Then how were you able to do whatever it was that you did yesterday to fight them?" I asked.
"You don't need to believe in something to be able to harness it's power. All I did was simply pop the seal on the Black dust that is infused with me."
"Is that why your hair turned black and you skin seemed to dance with darkness?" I asked.
"Yes actually. What you saw happen to me is the very reason why I am refereed to as a demon. Before Sarah helped me forge these katanas', when the seal came undone was left to anyone's guess but after we made them I tied it's seal to them being drawn for an extended period of time and a verbal ritual; now I can pop it whenever I want but I may still not be in control."
"Then how were you able to do it yesterday and remain in control?" I asked.
"I can't say that I did as I don't actually remember what happened after I first swung my blades; but I can say that I do have more control over it inside this seal."
"So when you said you wanted to train while we were stuck in here, you meant doing so to better control it in the real world." Sarah said.
"Yep."
"You wanna get started?" I asked him after a moment of silence.
"Sure."
"I'll do this with you if let us take a closer look at your body when you pop your seal." Sarah said after a second of hesitation.
"Why would you want to get a closer look at a demon?" He said with half a laugh as his gaze drifted towards the ground. "Not one person that has gotten a close look at me when I am in that state has managed to keep their fear in check."
"Just try it, please?" Sarah pleaded with puppy dog eyes.
Soap tried to resist, he really did. I watched as his iron clad resolve melted at his wife's conviction. "Fine. But I am only doing this once."
He stepped back, stood up straight, closed his eyes, and began to speak in a language I didn't recognize. As he spoke, his pure white hair was slowly consumed by the black streak in his hair.
I glanced over to Sarah and watched as the black streak in her hair slowly faded.
I turned my focus to the man in front of me; his skin remained the same light tan that it usually was and I watched as tendrils of shadow and darkness came out from underneath his fingerless gloves and slowly wrapped around his arms.
By now, his hair was completely black with only a small splash of red remaining at his side. The tendrils continued to wrap around his body, encapsulating his bare chest with darkness. They continued until they finally stopped when they met his head and his feet. The tendrils shivered and danced on the top of his skin creating intricate designs and archaic lettering.
As I watched and controlled my breathing so that I would be able to continue to watch, the sole thought that ran through my head was that I understood why he was known as a demon. He truly did live up to his nickname and looked extremely underworldly.
After he finished his verbal rite, his katanas and gun glowed brilliantly.
He opened his eyes slowly and looked at us; when he did, the sight of them took my breath away.
Replacing his normal silver-brown eyes were two orbs of solid silver. Within those orbs of silver, written in shadows, were two archaic ritual circles. They truly were a sight to behold.
"You look amazing!" Sarah said trying to genuinely compliment him, but he just looked at the floor in shame.
"The thing you see before you is the same thing thousands of people saw moments before they met their end; some of those people deserved it but many of them did not. That's the reason why I don't like using my katanas."
"Well, that's why we're doing this now; so that you can learn to control it." Sarah said taking a step towards him.
He backed up a step in response. "I don't recommend touching me with your bare hands while I am like this. I have no recollection of that ending well for anyone who did." He said solemnly.
After a tense minute passed in silence, I spoke breaking it, "Why don't we start training?"

~Sam
"So it's going to be a while before they are back on their feet and moving and even longer still before they go off on any missions." I said to an expectant RWBY, SLVR, and DUSC after I exited the medical center. "But Soap did say that we should keep training in the meantime."
After everybody left and returned to their rooms, I found my boyfriend. "Alright Drake, time for our next target: Umbra." I said as he nodded in confirmation.
We wandered over to DUSC's training area and looked around the room.
Dusk, Shade, and Crimson were each doing their own personal training.
Dusk was sitting on the floor meditating and working on his semblance. Spread around him on the ground were various photos containing basic weapons of every design. We watched as translucent replicas of the various weapons floated around him.
Shade was being Shade, and Crimson was practicing grabbing a spark from a lighter as quick as he could. Umbra was nowhere to be seen.
"Have you guys seen Umbra? We want to talk to her for a bit." I called into the room."
"Nope. Try the team room." I got in a harmonious reply.
"Thanks." I called back as I turned around.
After navigating the church to DUSC's room, I knocked and opened the door after a moment.
"Wait out here Drake in case she's changing." I told him as I walked in the room and closed the door behind me.
The room that DUSC was using was about the same size that Drake and I were in, but far cleaner.
Clothes were folded and put away neatly, beds were mad, what little artwork and posters that were on the walls were framed and hung perfectly.
After I reached the center of the room I turned around and looked at the desks that lined the wall. I could see that two of them belonged to a certain Umbra as they were covered by notes from combat vids of myself and Drake.
I looked back at the beds that lined the opposite side of the room and saw one that was pressed up into a corner. The bed was covered in a black canopy effectively casting a veil of darkness over the bed.
That's Umbra's. I thought to myself.
"Hey Umbra, you in there?" I asked as I made my way to the end of the be and looked in.
When I did I saw two Umbra's, one real and one a shadow.
I watched as the two merged and the near sleeping body of Umbra opened her eyes and started to move.
"Hi Sam." She said, yawning. "It's my turn right?"
"Yep. How did you know- right. Your semblance can let you see and hear things far beyond that of a normal person."
"Yeah. You guys wanted to talk and learn more about me?" Umbra asked, her wins twitching a bit.
I stared at her for a moment before it clicked. "You watched us question your brother?"
She nodded her head in response.
Drake and I were about to sit when her stomach growled.
I laughed. "Hungry?"
She nodded her head sheepishly.
"Come on. Let's get some food; we can talk in the kitchen. Want anything to drink with your food?" I asked as Drake rushed off at the first mention of food.
"Some tea please." She said as we made our way to the kitchen.
A/N: I survived the hurricane in Florida and managed to type this before the Internet came back.
This chapter was supposed to be longer. A lot longer. But I've realized how long it's actually been since I've updated and how close the volume 5 premier is so this is going up now and we will see the rest of the conversation between Umbra, Sam, and Drake in the next chapter.
About the last couple scenes in the last chapter:
I know it was awkward to read and sort of sudden, it was supposed to be. I wanted it to have the same feeling you would get if you walked in on your parents having sex which I realize now that I may not have quite achieved that effect but at this point, it will have to do.
On another note, I've started reading fan fiction again after not for a good two years and all I've been reading are old ones that I never finished so I have no idea what is good on this site anymore. If you guys have any recommendations, feel free to send them my way.
