The tension that grew from simply making eye contact with one another was thick enough that Ravens sword could probably slice through it. "Why are you wearing a mask?" She asked.
"Why are you wearing a mask?" Crue rebutted. Raven's eyes instantly tilted into an unamused frown, causing the Faunus to sigh. "Yeah, I got to not speak right now." Crue reached behind him and threw something to Raven.
Her hand instantly gripped the hilt of her sword, before realising what it was he had thrown. With her other hand, she caught it. She inspected the item suspiciously, before turning her head to stare at Crue.
"Beer?" She asked, holding the brand out towards him.
"Trust me, you're gonna want it after this." With a sigh, Crue took out another can of the substance and sat down on the roof cross-legged. The slipped his helmet up a bit and opened the can, taking a decent gulp of it.
"I'm not from this world." He said simply, looking up to Raven as he did. There was a second of silence, before the hiss of a can being opened broke it. The alcohol was consumed with almost a religious fervour.
"I needed that sooner than I thought I would." Raven complained, sitting down and matching Crues posture. "But that still doesn't explain why you know so much." She leaned to her side, not so subtly reminding Crue of her sword.
With a sigh of acceptance, he brought the rest of the cans out of the bag he brought along and placed them in front of Raven. "Everything I'm about to tell you, is completely true." He said seriously.
Raven seemed to still, leaning in so she could be certain of getting as much information as possible. "When I say 'different world', I guess I really mean a different dimension." Raven took another can. "I come from a world with no Grimm, no Aura, no Dust. And no Faunus."
"And in that world…" This was always the worst part in any other fanfiction Crue had read, the explanation. "In that world, you're a show." Raven stopped drinking, staring at Crue with disbelief. "Yeah, I know."
"I'm a show?" She repeated, both in disbelief and anger.
"Yes." He answered. "Well, you're part of one at least." He corrected. "You're not a main character or anything." Raven frowned. "Oh great now I offended you." Crue shook his head.
"Who is the main cha-" She stopped herself. "Why the Hell would I believe this?" She asked instead.
"You wouldn't." Crue shrugged. "Hell, I don't blame you if you don't. But I've been stuck here for like three months without being able to tell anyone. So forgive me if I get some much needed relief out of this."
Raven frowned but made no motion to interrupt. "And the main character is RWBY by the way." She stilled. "The team. Not Summer's kid."
"How do you know about Summer?" Her nails dug into her knee, and her other hand drifted towards her sword.
"I don't." He answered. Raven's hand stopped. "I don't know everything. I just know she looked exactly like Ruby, and wore white." He also recalled what he learned at the very end of the volume. "And that she was a Silver Eyed Warrior."
"Whatever the fuck that is." He rolled his own eyes. They never explained it, though they didn't exactly have the time.
"You don't know what a Silver Eyed Warrior is?" Raven asked, tilting her head slightly. Crue noticed that more than a few cans were now consumed.
"Look they weren't far into the show when I ended up here ok?" He explained. "There was only three seasons. I have no idea what's happened since then." There was a great deal of information he was missing, not that it mattered, since the Fall of Beacon was all he knew, and was all he was trying to prevent.
"I know about you because your daughter is gay for a cat and explained how she almost died trying to find you." The Faunus' hand clenched in anger, before exhaling and releasing it. "And I feel like shit now because I've seen what was obviously a personal moment between them, and neither of them know it."
He had seen so much that no one knew. "And, unfortunately," he made sure to stare at Raven as he spoke. "I know about the Maiden-" A sword was suddenly up against his throat, Crue barely even having time to blink.
"How did you know I was the Maiden?" She demanded. Crue stopped, completely and utterly frozen.
"You're a Maiden?!" He exclaimed, eyes wide in shock. Raven's eyes widened as well, as she backed up.
"You didn't know that?" She brandished her sword, the tip pointed at Crue's chin. The Faunus stood, thinking this new piece of information over.
"No! Why would I know that!?" He responded. "The only thing I knew about the Maiden was that Ozpin was going to make Pyrrha it and I'm going to fucking kill him for it." Crue's hands clenched, mimicking strangling the headmaster.
This got Raven to pause. "You hate him too?" She lowered her sword ever so slightly. Crue took a breath, thinking over his feelings for the man.
"Ozpin, is a good man. He has the best of intentions, but some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions. He's too willing to make sacrifices in order to stop Salem." Raven's eyes widened. "Oh yeah I know about her too, shoulda said that earlier." He blanked as he remembered something.
"She also wants to fuck me." A shiver ran through his body that had nothing to do with the cold air of the evening.
"She wants to what!?" Raven asked, the first time Crue had seen her show any form of surprise or disgust or any other emotion that wasn't vague dislike.
"Yeah, I'm not too thrilled about it either. Trust me." He shook his head, frowning. "She also gave me the ability to turn into a big fuck-off wolf. Which I hate for reasons." He hissed.
"Why are you even telling me all of this?" Raven asked, suddenly wary that she might be in the proximity of one of Salems agents.
"Exposition." Crue deadpanned. "No, you're a neutral party." He explained. "No ties to Ozpin, no ties to Salem. You're you own person. I think. Like I said, three seasons."
"I'm still not sure if I believe that whole 'I'm a show' excuse." Raven finally sheathed her sword, and took another can. "But frankly, I don't know what to think with how much you know."
"I know the future as well. Or at least, the next month. Unless I've changed something." Crue continued. "And I figured maybe you could help stop what's coming."
"And what's coming?" Raven asked, crunching the can and tossing it behind her.
"The Fall of Beacon."
…
"Ok I'm going to need more information to go off of other than that." Raven squinted at Crue.
"Yeah you've got a point I figured that might just explain everything." The Faunus nodded in fairness. "I don't know how much you'll believe but there's this right cunt called Cinder who currently has Half of a Maidens powers."
"How did she get half of a Maidens powers? Which Maiden?" Raven's demand for information, and not without question how he knew was appreciated.
"The Fall Maiden. Amber." Crue answered. "And with some weird Grimm bug thing that was inside her arm. Or inside a glove?" He explained as best he could. "Her and her two lackeys attacked her and managed to wound her. She got about half the power before Qrow showed up."
"You know about Qrow?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Yea- Actually." Crue stopped himself. "I have a question about him. Is his Semblance being able to turn into a bird? Or is that just something the two of you can like… do?" He made a strange hand gesture.
"No, that's not something we can just 'do'." Raven deadpanned. "Ozpin imbued us with his magic. We were meant to be his eyes and ears. But then I learned something that Ozpin didn't want us to learn. And when I told the others, they all stayed with him. Even Qrow." Her hand curled into a fist, clearly agitated at the memory of her brother turning traitor.
"I won't ask what it was you learned." Crue told her. He'd probably find out on his own in time. "I just want to know if you'd be willing to help stop this." He remained silent, hands clasped together as he awaited Ravens response.
The Maiden in question did not speak for several minutes.
"…No." "Oh fuck you."
Raven blinked in surprise, seeing steely blue eyes glaring at her from behind the dark green mask. "I come out here because you threaten my friends, I explain everything I possibly could to you, I tell you that Beacon will be destroyed, the place where your daughter goes to, and you still say no!"
Crue stood with his back straight as he stared straight at Raven. The much older woman stood up, her black hair billowing in the wind and causing her Avian features to come out in full force. "I already saved my daughter once. She will never become stronger."
"So you'd rather her, your own daughter, YOUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD, die, rather than you deciding to expend some of your energy saving her and countless other people!" Crue took a few steps forward as he exclaimed.
"I ALREADY SAVED HER ONCE! SHE HAS TO BECOME STRONGER!" Raven was right in front Crue and her hand gripping her sword tight.
"BULLSHIT!" Crue yelled back. "YOU SHOWED UP, SWIPED YOUR SWORD ONCE AND THEN FUCKED OFF!" Raven's hand moved in a blur, and immediately grabbed Crue's throat.
"How do you know about that?!" She hissed. The Faunus slapped at her arm, pulling at it with his right hand.
"What part of you're a show…" Crue clasped down on Raven's arm. "DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND!"
*snkt*
Raven cried out in pain, and dropped Crue, the Faunus immediately rolling on his back away from her. He checked his claws, and saw them dripping red. Looking back up in shock, he saw Raven covering one of her masks eyeholes.
"Fuck. I did not mean to do that." Despite the fact he was almost definitely about to die regardless of his next action, he took a fighting stance, keeping his claws close to him and pointing the palm of his other hand towards her.
Still covering her mask, blood red eyes glared at Crue, and wisps of fiery crimson began to form. As quickly as they came, they died back out. "Congratulations." Raven said through gritted teeth. "You're the first person in nearly a decade to actually make me bleed."
"Not as proud of that as I should be." Crue retorted, his hand still ready to release fire Dust at any given moment.
"I'm not helping you." Raven told him. "And the only reason you're not being incinerated on the spot is because if I use my powers here, I know somehow Ozpin will find out." Her eye narrowed, and she looked dead at Crue.
"And you won't tell him." It was meant as a threat, but Crue didn't quite take it that way.
"No shit Sherlock." He answered, lowering his arms for a moment in an exasperated fashion, before immediately right them. "I know something Ozpin doesn't. I know a lot of shit he doesn't. And he'd see that more as a threat, rather than an aid."
Raven seemed to 'hmm' in amusement, and finally lowered her hand from her mask. Crue bit back a wince. He couldn't tell if he hit her eye or not, with the amount of blood and the fact her eyes already matched that colour.
"You're like me." She finally said, causing Crue to grit his teeth. "You don't trust Ozpin as far as he's probably thrown you." He hated that she was right.
"That's where the similarities stop." Crue cut off whatever she might say next. "I don't abandon the people I care about for strength. I stay with them and grow stronger together. You've only survived because you happened to get some bullshit powers."
"That's wrong." Raven stepped forward once, causing Crue to tighten his guard. "I've survived because I'm strong enough to do what others won't!"
"No, you've survived because you're scared enough to do what others won't." Crue stepped forward in turn.
"I've stared Death in the face!" Raven exclaimed.
"Yeah so have I it's six feet tall and looks like gone off mayonnaise." Crue retorted. "And don't act like that's a big thing." He lowered his arms completely. "We're Huntsmen. It's part of the job."
With those final words, he turned his back to Raven and walked away. "This isn't over." Raven called after him. Crue shook his head, but grew a smirk beneath his helmet.
"Sure fuckin' hope not." He replied, turning around and walking backwards towards the edge of the building. As he landed on the very corner, he threw his arms out wide. "Need to see what you look like with an eyepatch!"
The swipe of a sword barely missed his helmet as he fell towards the ground with a smile.
He ain't dead and neither am I. I like how this chapter turned out, I hope you do too. I think I characterised Raven well... I'll leave that up to you to judge. But yeah, Crue doesn't like Raven and vice versa. I don't know if I'll actually have her lose an eye. Though damn if it wouldn't be symbolic.
No other real commentary here, I know this chapter was pretty much nothing but exposition but ah well. I hope you enjoyed, if you did let me know, if you didn't let me know, and as always
Until Next Time
