Born into the world 12 years before Tess' death, Jack Tess is a bitter child conceived from Tess' accidental pregnancy by Joel. Having endured horrific ordeals throughout his life, he eventually finds out about Joel's whereabouts as he tracks him down to a snowed-in building, where he comes into conflict with a group seeking revenge. Joel survives, and Jack's young journey begins.

When everything seemed to be going well, a new threat presents itself. When a sudden surprise attack destroys their home, Ellie finds herself in great danger. After being saved by a masked individual, she is forced to find a new refugee for herself and the other survivors which leads them into the middle of a war in Seattle.
