Chapter 5
I saw that, when in the mind of the owner of the orange soul, that it was a boy that was roughly 10 years old, with multiple scrapes on him from different scraps, which, in his mind, was from fights with the monsters on the way through Snowdin. He didn't kill any of them at all, but he did hurt them so they'd leave him alone. And despite being brave, he was still scared of being surrounded by monsters that were just as scared as him.
"Why are all of these things here?! I thought that there weren't no such things as monsters!" he said in concern before he then finally reached the area of Waterfall, where he got ambushed by Royal Guard members, me being shocked to see that they weren't the dog monsters like in the game... aside from one. It being the scrapped character Doge! And she was alongside what looked like a reindeer monster like Noelle Holiday and a bird monster similar to Berdley, but they were the opposite genders.
"King Asgore, we have the human in our sights. Permission to attack and detain!" Doge said, her sounding very serious, almost like she sounded like Lara Croft in a sense. And it looked like the owner of the orange soul was concerned at the words spoken.
"Again?! Please, I just want to get the heck out of this nuthouse!" he said, me seeing that his name was Brutis. And then he heard Asgore's voice on the other end.
"Remember not to hurt the soul. We need it," Asgore said, me seeing that he was more serious than before. That must've meant that this was one of the first souls he got! Doge then proceeded to attack with something that made me shocked. What was it? A prototype of the Gaster Blaster, it managing to send a blast of light at Brutis that was like a laser! And it managed to burn his skin, which made him in a lot of pain!
"AAAUGH! STOP! IT BURNS! IT BUR-UR-URNS! I'M BEGGING YOU!" he shrieked in pain before the reindeer shouted.
"That's enough! STOP! That's good enough!" he shouted, Doge then stopping, me seeing that she looked even more serious than before as Brutis was coated in boils, blisters, and bones were showing all over him.
"K-Kill me... it... it hurts..." he gasped as he heard Asgore talk on the other end.
"Come in! What's the status?" Asgore asked in seriousness.
"It's uh... not good..." the female bird said as the reindeer simply swiped the soul from an open hole in Brutis's chest and he fell down, the life leaving him as she placed it into the case. And the last thing he heard was Asgore speaking three words.
"Doge, you're fired!" he said... and I had a feeling it was because of how Doge didn't even bat an eyelid at shooting him to the point he was horribly deformed and in so much pain, he wanted death... it was morbid... and it made me realize how fast Asgore's switch was when it came to detaining humans.
I gasped again after the memory ended, which Frisk was spooked by, and she hid in the box again, me breathing in and out as I recovered faster than before, but the sight I saw was a bit much, even for me, as someone who watched Saw movies.
"What did you see this time?" Chara asked me.
"I... I saw the last moments of Brutis, the owner of the orange soul of Bravery," I said aloud, not caring if Flowey heard. Frisk then poked her head out of the storage box as I spoke again. "I saw that he was the first of the humans to be captured, and when I mean captured... I am putting it as mildly as possible. He tried to defend himself from the monsters by attacking them but didn't kill a single one. And then, he got cornered by former Royal Guard members. One was a reindeer, another a bird, and the final being a dog. The dog then shot some strange laser at Brutis, which managed to boil, burn, and deform his skin so badly, that he was at death's door after only 10 seconds of being exposed to it. And that, when Asgore was told of what happened, he immediately fired the dog for the excessive, brutal murder..." I said, Chara sighing.
"Yeah... I remember that guy. I really wanted to warn him, but he couldn't talk to me or see me... seeing that actually made me feel disgust and sorrow, if only for a brief moment," Chara said.
"That sounds... scary... I hope that d-doesn't happen to... us..." Frisk said in fear as I then looked at her with a smile.
"I can guarantee you that it won't happen to us. I'm very tough in terms of defense and magical defense. I'll be your shield, I promise," I said, her nodding as she finally stepped out of the chest and held my hand.
"You must really care for her, huh, Malory?" Chara asked, which made Frisk gasp and retreat her hand.
"I... I just heard a voice..." she said, me smirking at her.
"It's my uh... other side. They merged their personality with mine shortly after I fell down here. They used to live down here, but they died and remained as just a conscious mind, so I gave them a second chance," I smirked.
"What's their name?" Frisk asked, me deciding to have Chara say it.
"It's Chara, but don't say my name out in the open, because there's a bad monster that's watching us in the distance, the only one that wants to actually kill us... and he'd want us even more dead if he knew my name..." Chara said, which Frisk gulped at as tears came from her face. "Just call me uh... call me uh..." Chara said, calling a blank before I spoke.
"Call them Carly," I said, which made Chara ask a simple question.
"Why?"
"Better than option two, Elmo," I smirked in thought.
"Fine, Carly it is," Chara frowned as Frisk then lost the tears and giggled a bit again.
"Let's keep going, then. We don't want to keep the Great Papyrus waiting, now do we?" I smirked.
"Um... who is that? The Great Papyrus?... Is he a good guy?" Frisk asked.
"From what I saw, the nicest, most precious bean of sunshine you'll ever meet," I smirked.
"Heehee, sounds fun," Frisk smirked as we then moved down the path, us then seeing a monster in the form of Snowdrake, who looked at me in surprise.
"Hey, who are you?" he asked, me smirking.
"Um, I'm Malory, this is Frisk. We uh... We came here for the holidays," I smiled.
"Oh, you came here for the Christmas party? You must've come early, cause it's not gonna happen for a week or so. Icy you're pretty cool!" he said, that making Frisk and me giggle and laugh, which made Snowy smirk. "HAH! See! Laughs! I knew I was funny!" Snowy smirked widely.
"Yes, that was a good joke. Well, we need to get going back to town, now," I smiled, him nodding.
"See ya, and stay safe!" Snowy smirked as he walked down towards the left and we then moved to the right, me sensing that Flowey was still following us, but at a distance.
"Was that... a monster?" Frisk asked, me smirking.
"Uh, yeah," I said.
"He looked... cute?... I thought they'd be scarier..." Frisk admitted.
"Well..." I said as I then went to Frisk's ears. "If the planet looks the same to you as it does to me, these guys are tame compared to most humans," I said, being ambiguous for good reason, since Flowey was within earshot... or... how did he hear without ears?
"Y-Yeah... some people are scary... I heard horror stories about t-the other orphanage... how no one got adopted... the kids beaten... and if they escaped, they got killed by guard dogs..." she said, me gawking at that.
"Well, looks like they might need something to be done about that. And what better than my magical soul?" I smirked.
"Wait... you can use magic?" she asked, me nodding. "I never met a human that could do that... only three people on the planet can use it to some extent... Houdini, anyone who becomes the Pope, and uh... I think her name was Miranda Cosmos?" she asked.
"Miranda Cosgrove, you mean," I smirked.
"Yeah, her. She's a prodigy and used magic to show everyone what happened on the show behind the scenes... it's shocking Nick didn't get rid of that horrible man," she said, me knowing that the world did have some good tweaks, mainly Dan Schneider, biggest pedophile at Nickelodeon, getting comeuppance from the star of iCarly!
"Cool," I smirked as we then we got to Doggo's post, me going past and Doggo then appearing from beneath with his shifty eyes locking eyes on my immobile form.
"Huh? Did somethin' move? I can't see nothin' unless it moves!" Doggo said as I then smirked as I took the stick that Frisk had, even though the dog then engaged us in a soul battle.
"Who wants a stick?" I asked, him looking at the stick moving in my grasp as I saw him trying to hold in his excitedness. "Huh? Whose a good doggy?" I smirked.
"ME! I'm a good doggy!" he shouted, falling for it!
"Goooo get it!" I shouted as I threw the stick to the west, Doggo then jumping out the post and to the west, me then sparing the dog and hiding myself and Frisk on the other side of his post as Doggo then gawked and simply brought the stick back.
"Dammit... I'm gonna need a smoke after that," he groaned as he then went back into his post and I spoke.
"Sorry, but I don't want us to be dead quite yet, I'm sure you understand, poochy," I said, him frowning behind the post.
"Hmph, don't tell the other members of the guard and we'll be square, get it?" he said, me smirking at that.
"Deal," I smirked. "Name's Malory and my friend is Frisk."
"Doggo, 'nuff said."
"Don'tcha mean 'ruff' said?" I smirked, Frisk giggling as Doggo then growled in annoyance.
"Not funny," he frowned.
"Okay, okay, fine, gosh. Let's just move on, Frisk," I said, her nodding as we went forward some more and we saw Sans standing by the ice patch.
"hey, how's it goin'?" he asked, which spooked Frisk when she saw him. "huh... another human, huh? what a coincidence! papyrus will be even more determined to catch ya now," he said, Frisk hiding behind me as I simply held her hand.
"Easy, Frisk, he's a good guy... sorry, she's very shy," I smiled.
"that's alright, better to be scared than foolish," he said as he then spoke again. "by the way, i want to let you know that my bro uses a special blue attack. if you see a blue attack, you need to stop moving or you'll get hurt. imagine it like a blue stop sign and you'll be right as rain," Sans smirked.
"I'd prefer the rain to be left, though," I said, Frisk then frowning and doing something different. She grabbed some snow and threw it at the back of my head.
"yeah, that was pretty bad. you and i can get along just fine, hehehe," Sans chuckled.
"And you know a joke is bad when a shy person throws something at you," Chara spoke in the mind, me smirking at that. We then moved forward to the area where Papyrus was and we saw that he was next to Sans.
"How fast can that bag of bones move?" Frisk asked for me.
"Not a clue," I smirked as Papyrus then noticed us.
"OH GOODIE! THE HUMAN HAS... ARRIVED?!" Papyrus gasped when he saw Frisk. "OH MY GOD! ANOTHER HUMAN! THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE! I WILL BE EVEN MORE PRESTIGIOUS IF I BRING BACK TWO HUMANS!" Papyrus said like a big sunshine baby, which Frisk looked at him in confusion.
"He's uh... loud..." Frisk said.
"He's adorable," I whispered.
"Eh, matter of perspective," Chara spoke her mind.
"OKAY! THIS IS YOUR FIRST PUZZLE YOU MUST CONQUER! IF YOU STEP ON THE WRONG PART OF THIS SNOW PATCH, YOU WILL GET A HEALTHY DOSE OF ELECTRICITY, AND ALL POWERED BY THIS ORB!" Papyrus said as he produced the orb from his inventory. "DO YOU DARE CONTINUE?!" he asked, me smirking as I then stepped on the patch of snow and, as I did, Papyrus then got shocked by the orb, which was open season for me and Frisk to keep moving as Papyrus eventually dropped the orb on the ground as we got to the end.
"SANS! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Papyrus asked in annoyance as well as some singed cartilage.
"i think the humans had to hold the orb," he said.
"UGH! YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN PAST THIS PUZZLE, BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET PAST THE NEXT! FOR IT HAS BEEN DESIGNED BY MY BROTHER, SANS! YOU WILL SURELY BE CONFOUNDED! I KNOW I AM! NYEHEHEHEHE!" Papyrus sneered before then running off ahead and for Sans to look at us with a smirk, as per usual.
"that was rather 'shocking', wasn't it?" he asked, me smirking at that.
"I do declare it wasn't shocking. It was electrifying," I smirked.
"okay, that's bad. stick to your day job, hehe," Sans smirked at me as he then got some snow and threw it at me, right in the face.
"Fine, fine, I'll lay off the bad jokes for a bit. Heaven knows I can't take too many more snowballs to the head," I smiled.
"At least it's making me more at ease in this place," Frisk admitted.
"See? There was a point to the bad jokes after all," I smirked, Frisk smirking at me.
"you'd better get a move on, my bro isn't the patient type," Sans said, me nodding as Firsk and I then moved on again and we saw the Nice Cream guy, him looking very bummed.
"Huh... He looks pretty nice," Frisk said with innocence.
"Let's see if we can get a snack for the road," I said, Chara speaking to me.
"Ice cream in Snowdin? You sure are one weird human," Chara pouted at me.
"Oh, I guess you don't want to have chocolate ice cream?" I asked, Chara then frowning at me.
"Well played. Fine, we'll share it," she pouted. Mainly because she knew I was right. She LOVED chocolate!
"Hey, mister? Can we get some ice cream?" I asked, him smirking at that as he looked at us.
"Oh! Customers! What flavors do you want?" he asked.
"I'll take a butterscotch flavor," Frisk said, me gaining the biggest dumb smile ever. She would be over the moon for Tori's secret recipe!
"And I'll take a chocolate fudge flavor," I smiled, which I could hear Chara salivating in my mind. I then forked over the price tag, which I saw was not gold, but actual dollars! But it was worth 10 dollars for two nice creams. And it was well-spent, since they were very large ones. So large, in fact, they had to be put in cups with long spoons.
"This is going to be great! Thanks, dude!" I smiled at him.
"And same to you, little human dudes! I knew you couldn't be all that bad after Snowy told me about ya," he smirked, me smiling at that.
"I thought he went past us that way, though?" I asked as I pointed where we came from.
"He's got wings. He cheated," Frisk smirked at me as we then proceeded to eat the Nice Cream on the way to the right until we got jumped by Ice Cap, who looked at us with seriousness.
"Oh, uh, hi there," I smiled before he then sent our souls out of our bodies... and he then checked my soul. And doing so made him sweat ice cubes.
"W-Whoa... what kind of soul is that?..." he asked as he then missed his attacks intentionally, which Frisk looked spooked at.
"U-Um... we're harmless, we can say that..." she said.
"T-Then why did that guy say you were dangerous?... Especially with a soul like... like THAT?" Ice Cap asked with concern.
"Look, if we were as truly dangerous as that guy said we are, don't you think we would've attacked you the moment the fight started?" I asked, him gulping at that. "I can vouch for both of us. The guy who told you how dangerous we are. He was a flower, wasn't he?" I asked, him gawking at that.
"Y-Yeah, it was! H-How'd you know?"
"I know because he's tried to kill me already. He wants to steal my soul to be stronger, with goals of destroying the world," I said, doing a half-lie, which made Ice Cap concerned.
"I... I was lied to? He sounded so innocent though!"
"Yeah, no. The moment I met him, he tried to kill me. I know some of his secrets that he won't let me say, and now, because of that, he wants to spread lies about me and scare everyone to attack me. I can bet you money that I'll come across other monsters he's lied to and he'll lie to them as well," I frowned.
"I see... so what if that flower tries to talk to me again?"
"Tell him that you're busy and to leave you alone. And don't worry, so long as my soul is in the Underground, he's powerless," I said, him nodding at that, which made his hat fall off his head and he then gasped as he was now just his ice cube, but with eyes and a small sprig of hair on top.
"O-Oh no!... D-Don't look at me!" he said with fear as he then gained tears, Frisk smiling at him and placing her hand on Ice's head.
"It's okay... you look cuter without the hat, actually," Frisk smiled.
"What would you know about it? You have hair, I don't!" he said, Frisk sighing before then doing something that shocked me more than the forcefield I used in chapter 1. She simply took her hair off of her head to show she was completely bald!
"WHOA!" Chara shouted for us, but only in my head. Mainly because I expected Frisk to actually have hair... so why didn't she?
"I don't have hair either... I got into a prank war with some of my orphanage mates, and they went too far... they put acid on my head just a year ago. No hair has grown back since... but I did get them back by taking their teddy bear and holding it for ransom until they paid me all of their money. And then, when I got all of it, I revealed that she had a teddy bear to the rest of them, making away with her dignity and he money at the same time. She never messed with me again after that," Frisk smiled.
We had a bit of a silent moment after that for a good minute before I spoke.
"I didn't know you could be so vicious..." I admitted.
"Well, she deserved it. She was the oldest at that orphanage and she always bullied me and the younger kids, which were all of them other than her. She was 16, so the fact that I stole her teddy bear, got her money, and then revealed her secret? I definitely got punished for a good week for that, but that bitch never messed with us again," Frisk said, me gawking at that.
"Frisk, language," I said in surprise.
"I'm 13. I know what those words mean by now," she said, me smirking at that as Ice then spoke.
"Well, I'm just glad you share the same pain I feel... so why do you wear a wig?" Ice asked.
"Well, it's a lot different if you're a girl without hair than if you're a guy. A girl's entire character is based on her wavy locks, especially in human culture. If a woman has no hair, everyone looks at her like there's something wrong with her. As for men, it's more natural for them to have baldness. And uh, to be honest, I'm surprised that you have hair in general, since most monsters I've seen so far don't have hair on their heads. They either have fur all over or no hair at all," I smiled at him.
"Huh... you make a good point. I guess that, even if it's just a single strand of hair, I still have more hair than most other monsters! Thanks, humans! What are your names?" he asked.
"I'm Malory Wares and this is Frisk," I smirked... but when I said Malory Wares? It made Ice look at me in surprise.
"Wait... I've heard of that name before! It was in a book at the library... something about a being with malware in their name was the name of the angel of prophecy?" he asked, me sighing and shaking my head at that.
"I don't feel like it. I'm just a normal girl that has a lot of magic... uh, okay, maybe not THAT normal, but I don't feel like I'm an angle of prophecy," I smiled.
"Okay, I'll go spread word to the other monsters, then," Ice smirked as he then flew ahead of us and I then looked at Frisk with a smile.
"We ready to go forward?" I smiled.
"Yeah, we don't want to keep Papyrus waiting," Frisk smirked.
"Ah-ah-ah! It's the Great Papyrus."
"Heehee! You must really like him."
"Yes, I do. He's just so nice and sweet. Like a baby of sunshine and goodness," I smirked.
