Chapter 7
"Wow, this place looks so... nice!" Frisk smiled when we were in Snowdin, me smirking as well... that is, until some of the bunfolk looked at me and started to whisper among each other.
"Is that her? A human is the angel to save us?" asked the one walking her cinnamon bunny.
"I don't know... it could be the one in the striped sweater," said the bear that was making presents, me and Frisk then simply going to the shop to avoid them and seeing that, when we did, we saw that Noelle was already in the shop and chatting it up with the shopkeeper, her looking at me in surprise.
"Oh, here she is!" Noelle smirked, me sighing at her.
"Uh, Noelle... could I get some kind of explanation as to why all the monsters outside were whispering to each other about me and Frisk?" I asked, her smirking.
"I had to tell everyone that the prophecy is going to happen! You're the one to save all of us and let us see the sun again!" Noelle smirked.
"Noelle, darling, I know you're excited, but bear in mind, that some monsters have a darker idea of the prophecy. Or do you forget about the group in Waterfall that thinks of the Angel of Death?" the shopkeeper asked, Noelle sighing at that.
"I... I forgot... you're right, I should've kept my big mouth shut... I was just so excited!" Noelle said, me smiling at her.
"It's okay, Noelle. I just want to know if I could get some answers about this prophecy. Because I have no idea about it," I said with a smile.
"Oh, that we can help out with for sure. Me and miss Bonnie are the resident history keepers of Snowdin Town. Books that are too important to leave in the hands of the library. Hell, they can't even spell correctly," Noelle smirked as she then went under the counter and proceeded to bring out three different tomes, all three of them being very dusty and old... and when I saw them, I was shocked that they were written in symbols rather than words.
"Is that... Wingding language?" I asked, Bonnie gawking at me saying that.
"You know what it says, then?" she asked, me nodding as I then opened the books and proceeded to read the story in full. And since each book was only a few pages long and the letters being symbols, I can put the entire story here:
It was a long day of working on my masterpiece of the CORE, which would give electrical power, cell phone capabilities, and a connection to the king's new castle. And I then had a dream. A dream of what would happen in the future. I saw the form of an angel, one from a world that was not our own, with the power to absorb memories to add to their power. They wore the Deltarune emblem across their torso with an outfit that was described as regal, yet risqué. They had 7 sets of wings, with 7 souls coursing through their feathers of divine golden hue. And they then spoke their name to me. "I am Malware. I have come to set you free."
I asked the angel a question. Where did they come from, and what were they going to do? Their answer was simple. "I come from outside of this world's boundaries, from a world similar, yet different. I am currently unborn as of now, but the time shall come when I will be born. And when that day comes, I will have no knowledge of who I was or what to do. Only by gaining the memories of 7 human souls in this world shall I gain my birthright and the power to release your kind from the shackles of these mountains."
I then asked when this would be, as I had to know if I could bring them to this world from their own. "It will happen when my body comes of age and learns all they can about this world. Their name shall not be Malware, but it will contain Mal in the first name and Ware for the last name, both of which being how they begin. The day will be near the end of the year 2022, for both this world and the world I shall be reborn in." And when I asked why they couldn't do it at this moment, they spoke a simple phrase. "Because I am not yet strong enough. I need a mortal form to gain the strength necessary. Look for a human with a Soul of Intelligence, the ultimate soul of power. If all of these things match, then the day of reckoning shall arrive, and monsters shall be freed from the Underground." And with that, the dream ended and the angel vanished into nothingness...
I was amazed by the read of the tomes, which I knew who wrote it just from reading the different Wingding writing. It was WD Gaster through and through and I was shocked that I was the embodiment of an angel... but it was shocking to me that I was what seemed to be a biblically accurate angel in this dream he had.
"Amazing... we haven't been able to read all of it in one sitting before! How did you know what these words said?" We only know one guy who could read it and it happens to be Sans. But he hates reading, so he hasn't even finished translating these tomes!" Bonnie gawked at me.
"I can read it for one reason. I know the language is Wingdings because the one who wrote it spoke that language. And his name? WD Gaster," I said. And when I spoke that name, Bonnie gawked and spoke in bewilderment.
"O-Oh my god... I remember that name! I remember he's the uncle of Sans and Papyrus! But... why haven't I remembered it until now?!" she asked.
"I know how, but I doubt you'd believe that," I admitted.
"Please, tell us? You're the prophecy reincarnated! I'll believe anything you say!" Noelle smirked at me with intrigue and excitement.
"He ended up falling into the CORE shortly after its creation was finished, and instead of turning to dust like most monsters, he was completely vaporized. And because he died in an unnatural way, he became trapped in a sort of limbo called the Void. He's been in that limbo ever since the CORE was finished and, from what I can guess, he used that advantage to bring me here from my world."
"He probably could have done so even if he weren't. He was the strongest, smartest monster in the Underground. He could teleport items to this one from other realities like it were child's play! It's how he got the idea to make the CORE, when he got some items such as cell phones from a world that had advanced technology," Bonnie explained.
"See? Once you remember him, you start remembering more and more. But eventually, since he's trapped in the Void, it will force you to forget again... unless a certain skeleton wishes to interject at any point?" I asked. And then, it happened. The creepy noise of computer death as Gaster's voice then arrived.
"Everything spoken of Malware is true..." Gaster said with a sigh, which made Noelle gasp as she looked around and saw nothing. And I didn't see anything... except for his wingding speech bubbles.
"I can see his speech coming from somewhere, but nothing else... different than before when I didn't see a thing," I admitted.
"Ah, but that is because you are getting stronger, Malory. If you gain more memories, you may be able to rescue me as well," Gaster spoke with a small, half-hearted chuckle. "But time for me to speak is... rather limiting... I need rest in between our chance meetings... though, if you could convince a certain person for assistance, you'd be close enough that we can speak for much longer..." Gaster said before I then felt the creepy computer garbage noise leave us and the others looked at me in concern.
We were left in awkward silence for a bit before Frisk spoke.
"W-Who was that?... A-And why did it sound like a computer was choking on a spleen?" Frisk asked, me sighing at that. It was time to lie, which I hated.
"I can remember something... I don't know why I remember this when I've never heard of it, but the one who spoke to us, Gaster, is trapped in the Void, which is basically limbo without being limbo. Where he can see everything that happens in the universe, but is unable to do anything to it, trapped in darkness... and if he does manage to find a crack to speak to someone like me, that noise is what follows... the black noise of the darkness," I explained.
"That... that sounds like nightmare fuel..." Noelle admitted.
"How are we going to rescue him, then? It seems that it would be impossible to take him out of a place as terrifying as that..." Bonnie admitted, me smiling.
"It is as the good doctor said. If I can manage to get the rest of the memories of the humans that have fallen here before me, including the original fallen child, Chara, then I can get the strength to save not only the monsters, but even Gaster," I smirked. "But enough about that... I'm kinda hungry for a snack. Do you have food here?" I asked, Bonnie frowning at me.
"Well, that was quite a shift," she frowned before then simply forcing the smile again. "So, what would you like? We have cinnamon bunnies and Bicicles," she smiled as I simply smirked.
"I prefer the human term, popsicle," I smiled.
"The box said that using that name would be a crime, and we don't need the bad humans to come down to attack us," Noelle said, me rolling my eyes.
"About that... Frisk and I can attest to this. Humans have almost completely forgotten about monsters. Like they were erased from their history," I said, that making the two furry creatures look at me in surprise.
"I-Is that true?... The humans don't even know about the war that ruined us?" Noelle asked, Frisk nodding.
"I uh... I know that there was only one thing, but everyone thinks of it as fiction because it's in a video game... and if what Gaster has said holds true, it was because he accidentally gave knowledge of this adventure we're in with a video game designer... and it was after he'd been transported to the Void," I explained, Frisk then gasping at that.
"Y-You mean... Undertale?" she asked.
"Under... tale?... So humans think we're fake game characters or something? And that our existence is fake?" Bonnie gulped.
"Now, yes. Beforehand, I can guess they knew nothing about any of the history. Mainly because the humans who fall down here are always scared when they appear. From the fact that Frisk was super scared when I first met her when she fell down here and when Brutis decided to defend himself because he was so scared," I said, which made Noelle look confused.
"Did you say Brutis?" I simply nod. "I know I've heard that name before from my grandfather... he died after my fifth birthday..." Noelle said.
"Brutis was the name of the first human that Asgore collected... but I saw his final memories, where he was confronted by the original royal guard, consisting of a reindeer monster, a bird-like one, and one that was named Doge," I said, that making Bonnie scoff.
"Do not even mention that name! She went off the rails, saying that the humans we caught needed to be killed as brutally as possible. She was fired for what she did to that poor boy. From what word of mouth said, he was so deformed, he was suffering nothing but pain incalculable! We've been told to detain with passive methods if possible and not to kill, just incapacitate, ever since that day," Bonnie frowned in disgust.
"So... where is she, then?" I asked, the duo then looking surprised before turning to each other and to me.
"Are you serious? You... want to meet her of all people?" Bonnie asked.
"If I'm going to save all the monsters, I'm leaving no stone unturned, and no one left behind. I want to try to befriend even the nastier ones," I said with a smile.
"Go next door, then. Tell my sister at the counter that you want to meet with Doge. Her response will likely be the same as mine," she said, me smiling at that. Doge, still alive? She was probably very old.
"So we're going to meet Doge? Even before my death, she was around as a puppy. She was a big bully," Chara said with a pout. We then went into the hotel next door and went to the front desk, the owner being the other female rabbit and her kid.
"Hello there, you must be those two humans I heard about from Dogamy and Dogaressa. Would you like a rest at this inn?" she asked, me shaking my head at that.
"Actually, we wanted to know if Doge was around," I said, that making the owner look at me in surprise.
"You're uh... you're kidding, right? She'd rip you in half."
"I'm not kidding. And I can defend myself well enough," I said with a smirk.
"Okay... she's in room 8C. Don't get killed, please?" she said, me nodding as me and Frisk then went up the stairs and down the halls until we found the room in question, it having a couple signs like Do Not Enter, Knock Please, and No Humans Allowed.
"Eh, I'll honor two of the three," I sighed to myself as I then knocked on the door.
"Huh? Who are ya? Go away," Doge said, me hearing her voice as being very elderly.
"We uh... we wanted to talk to you, miss Doge," I said, her then opening her peephole and growling when she saw me and Frisk.
"Did you even READ the sign?! No humans allowed!" she growled before something different happened. Chara took control to speak!
"Listen Doge, consider this an order from me, princess Chara. Let. Us. In," she said, the dog then looking at me in anger before sniffing... and when she did, she then gasped.
"I-I-It can't be... Chara?.." she asked, her then closing the peephole and then me hearing at least five locks unlocking before the door opened. "Get inside, quick," she said, Frisk about to join before Doge slammed the door on her.
"H-Hey!" Frisk complained, me sighing at that.
"Sorry, Frisk. How about you go and visit the library ahead of us?" I asked, her sighing as she then nodded and left. I then looked around Doge's room and saw that it didn't look too bad, aside from the smell of dog everywhere. That, and there were stray dog treats on the ground in some places that had been smoked.
"Explain. I want to know everything," Doge said, me looking at her in surprise.
"Explain about how Chara is in my body?" I asked, her nodding.
"Chara will, not you," she said, Chara then taking control and speaking.
"I'm in this body because of this nice woman, Malory Wares. Her soul woke up my conscious mind that's been caught in limbo since... the incident... and she gave me a second chance by merging my conscious mind with her soul," Chara said as she then showed it off... and Doge gasped when she saw it and then poked it, causing a small bit of light to emerge from it.
"I... Intelligence?... I can't believe my eyes... only one human had an intelligence soul in the past, the Buddha! How do you have a soul such as this?" Doge asked, me smiling.
"You told me not to speak," I said, her growling at me. "Fine, fine. I was brought here from another universe because of the prophecy. Apparently, I'm the angel Malware?" I asked, her frowning at that as I then retreated my soul back.
"So which are you? An angel of death? Or an angel of justice?" she asked, me smiling at that.
"I don't feel like either... but I would prefer angel of justice and repentance."
"Repentance? Repent for what?"
"Well, for you, what you did to Brutis," I said, her frowning at me.
"I don't know who that is."
"The human you brutally murdered with a laser." Doge then growled angrily before then sighing and beginning to whimper.
"I... I was just following orders... and then, the laser in question locked up on me! It was only supposed to fire for a second, but it locked for 10 seconds before finally stopping. But nobody listened to me, not even my own family... my husband left me after that, and I haven't seen him since he was sent to Alphys. And the other Royal mutts act as if I don't exist," she said, me trying to think... how could I tell if she was truthful? I simply touched my fingers to her head... and I gawked as I saw the memory and saw that, in her point of view, she was unable to stop the blast and that she was looking so serious because she was frozen in fear. As if she knew what was going to happen.
"Doge..." Chara said before Doge whimpered again.
"I don't deserve forgiveness... this is what I get for bullying everyone when I was a kid, isn't it?" she asked as I then hugged her and petted her behind the ears, her gasping before then hugging back with tears and whimpers.
"Nobody deserves what happened to you. To get their lives ruined because of a mistake in weapon design. I'm willing to forgive it for you, same with Chara, but only on one condition," I said, her gulping at that.
"W-What do you want?"
"I want to know if you could come with me and Frisk. We're heading to the king's castle, and we need to find more items that used to belong to the fallen children that were sent here. I've so far found items belonging to Chara, Brutis, and Flower, but I still need to find 4 more," I smirked.
"I see... okay... I might need a disguise beforehand," she said, me smiling as I then simply tried teleporting in a different way. What did I do? I teleported a trench coat and sunhat to my person. But I managed to warp them to my location from OUTSIDE the barrier! After all, anything could enter, but nothing could exit! I then gave her the items before then warping one more item in the form of a pair of LuLaRoe leggings that had dogs on them.
"Um... this looks a bit gaudy..." she said.
"It's better than dressing up in adult footy pajamas," I smirked.
"Oh yeah, believe me, that wouldn't be a smart move," I heard Frisk say on the other side of the door.
"Frisk! I thought I told you to go to the Library!" I said to her in annoyance.
"I did and they gave me a book. One they said belonged to a human that came here in the past. They said his name was Qwerter," she said, me being surprised at that.
"Um... I'll go meet with Frisk while you change, okay?" I said, her nodding as I then exited the door and Doge then locked them back up afterwards. I smirked as Frisk then showed me the torn notebook, which I saw had words on it.
"Plan to Become a Famous Author"... that made me very sad at what had happened to all his work. It was very water-damaged and most of the words were washed off. And then, the moment I touched it, I was then sent into another memory.
"I'll be turned off for a bit, I guess," I said before then entering the last living moments of Qwerter.
