Chapter 8
When in the mind of Qwerter, I was surprised that I saw that he was in Waterfall and was proceeding across the place effortlessly because of him being very nice and understanding to most of the other monsters. And then, he encountered a little girl, one that had a head of red hair that was unruly and disheveled, holding a small training trident in hand and looking at Qwerter with seriousness on her blue, scaly face. Yep, it was a young Undyne!
"HALT, HUMAN!" she shouted at him, which only sounded super cute from her being a little girl at the time.
"I do declare, a little girl monster wielding a trident? What's your name, little miss?" Qwerter asked, him being an absolute nerdy geek with how he spoke. Imagine Niel Goldman from Family Guy. And Undyne frowned and took his soul out of his body and swiped her trident, causing a green hue to overtake his purple soul.
"You are not getting past this place! You are going to the capital with me now!" Undyne growled, Qwerter looking at her in confusion before then trying to move forward... and finding he couldn't. "Time to die!" Undyne growled, Qwerter gawking as Undyne then proceeded to attack him with her spear attack, only this time, they were in the form of magic knives. She did so for a bit and managed to hit him at least thrice before he then managed to break free from the green soul attack and rush at Undyne. He then punched her in the eye and then gasped as, though he was weak, her was shocked at how he'd demolished Undyne's left eye!
"GAUGH! YOU MOTHERFUCKER! DIE!" Undyne shouted in pain before then proceeding the slam her trident into Qwerter's stomach, him gasping as he felt air and blood leave his system... and Undyne gasped as he then whimpered a bit.
"I... didn't know... it'd be that bad... sorry... for the eye..." he gurgled before Undyne swiped his soul and she looked... sick to her stomach.
"What... he wasn't a challenge at all... he just... he got a hit to my eye but... he died so easily..." she said in shock before then simply carrying the poor kid's body towards Hotland and went into the elevator that went from Alphys's lab to both New Home and the True Lab, her going up it and to the castle... and much like expected, Qwerter's soul persevered the whole way there and managed to speak some more.
"I... Am I dead right now?... And where are we going?" he asked.
"Shut up... please shut up..." Undyne said with tears in her remaining eye as she then placed a patch over the one that was currently bleeding.
"I said I was sorry... my calculations told me that my weak attack wouldn't do a thing... I didn't mean to-"
"I SAID SHUT UP!"
"O-Okay..." And then, once Asgore got the soul and applied some first aid to Undyne, the voice of Qwerter finally ceased as he was sent into limbo in the magical casing.
I gasped once again when the vision ended and I noted that Chara had led myself, Frisk, and Doge out of the building and into the inn's lobby, my gasp causing Doge to put her guard up and for the hair on her tail to raise almost instinctively.
"Whoa, whoa, easy, Doge," I said when I recuperated, her sighing as I then spoke. "I just saw the last moments of Qwerter, the owner of the Purple Soul of Perseverance," I said, her frowning at me before then nodding. "I saw that he had managed to make a lot of friends on his way through the Underground before reaching a bridge in a very pretty cave. When he did, he was stopped by a young fish woman with red hair and holding a red trident," I said, that making Doge frown.
"That's Undyne, the current captain of the Royal Guard... she's basically my replacement," Doge frowned in annoyance.
"Anyways, she proceeded to attack him, as I'm sure she was hired as a Royal Guard Member back then, but not the captain. She managed to trap him with some strange green beam, which made him unable to move. But it soon wore off after she attacked and managed to hit him with magical knives, which Qwerter then attacked her with a half-hearted punch to her eye... but even though he was a completely scrawny brainiac with no muscle tone, he managed to completely demolish her eyeball, causing blood and dust to spew from it as she then skewered him in retaliation with the trident... and his soul managed to last in consciousness until he was placed inside of some kind of case at the castle," I explained in full.
"Perseverance is a very sturdy soul type. Some say even sturdier than most other souls, even your soul of intelligence," Doge explained, me tilting my head at her. "It's no wonder he was able to still speak and be sentient before being placed in that capsule. It's designed to make the souls comatose, so they don't feel a thing or know the passage of time... it's been nearly 100 years since the first one came here," Doge said before growling a bit and I then spoke.
"Frisk, did you get any other information while you were at the library, per chance?" I asked my shy friend, who was getting consistently less so the more I spoke to her.
"I did. They said that magic attacks don't hurt monsters at all, but a human's physical attacks can do so, but only if they do so with intent to harm or kill. If it's just to detain or defend, it does nothing at all. But they didn't say a thing about humans using magical attacks to kill a monster, since it hasn't happened at all, even during the war," Frisk explained.
"I see... anything pertaining to the prophecy?"
"Not a single book about it. Just some word of caution that the prophecy could be seen as an omen of death to other monsters," Frisk explained as our group then left the inn and proceeded towards the east, us going down the road until we reached the side of the river, where it started to get consistently foggier until we saw the silhouette of Papyrus in front of us.
"Hmm... who's this?" Doge asked.
"HUMANS... ALLOW ME TO SHARE SOME FEELINGS WITH YOU. THE FEELING OF FINDING ANOTHER WHO LOVES PUZZLES. THE JOY OF FINDING ANOTHER PASTA LOVER... THE INTENSE FEELING OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THE KING GOT ALL 7 SOULS..." wait, what was that last part? "THESE FEELINGS... THEY MUST ALL BE WHAT YOU'RE FEELING RIGHT NOW, AREN'T THEY?" Papyrus asked, me still being confused at the final thing he said.
"Um... do you know what happens when the king gets the last soul?" I asked, him sighing at that.
"I DO... AND I DO NOT LIKE THE SOUNDS OF IT ONE BIT..." he said, me being surprised by that. "BUT EVEN STILL... I PITY YOU, HUMANS... BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A RELIABLE SOURCE THAT YOUR SOUL, MALWARE, IS INTENSELY DANGEROUS. SO, AS YOUR FRIEND, I SHALL NOT ONLY CAPTURE YOU, BUT SAVE THE WORLD FROM WHATEVER IS IN THAT SOUL! THEN I MAY BE ABLE TO GET A ROLE AS A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD!" Papyrus said as I then gasped as he sent my soul out ONLY and looked at me with seriousness.
"Um... Papyrus? I don't know who told you that my soul was dangerous, but if I really was that deadly, don't you think that I'd have a higher LV or EXP count?" I asked, him frowning at me.
"I CAN'T SEE YOUR STATS, HUMAN! HOW AM I TO KNOW YOU HAVEN'T KILLED BEFORE? I APOLOGIZE, BUT PREPARE FOR MY SUPER SECRET ATTACK!" he shouted, me then gasping as he then produced something that made me shocked. He produced GASTER BLASTERS! He then proceeded to try and blast me with them, me needing to dodge them as they fired before another group then covered the screen with only one of them being blue! I then went to that one and stayed still, me feeling my soul get heavy as I then jumped over one more strong Gaster Blast!
"WHAT THE HELL, PAPYRUS?!" I shouted in fear, him glaring at me.
"I MUST STOP YOU IN YOUR TRACKS, HUMAN FEMALE!" he shouted, me then gulping. He was NOT going to budge, that much was for sure. And I had a feeling that if I tried to fight back without the intent to kill, he'd only think I was being antagonistic. So, I simply said one thing.
"Papyrus, do you know what will happen if I'm killed off before I reach the capital?" I asked, him frowning at me.
"OF COURSE I DO! THE UNDERGROUND WILL BE IN DANGER OF BEING DEMOLIS-" he was about to finish before Frisk shouted.
"NO! THAT'S NOT WHAT WILL HAPPEN!" Frisk shouted, me gasping as I saw she was getting upset and angry.
"Easy, calm down, Frisk... let me talk," I said, her clenching her fists and then going back behind me as I then spoke. "If I don't make it to the castle, then I won't be able to save everyone in the Underground. And I do mean EVERYONE. Not just the monsters that are in Snowdin and beyond, but also the human souls currently in captivity and a certain someone you should know if you're using those guns to attack," I said, Papyrus frowning before then looking at me in shock.
"WAIT... YOU MEAN... G-G... DAD?" he asked, me nodding at him. "I... HOW AM I REMEMBERING THINGS ABOUT HIM LATELY? IT'S ONLY WHENEVER I'M AROUND YOU..." he said, me sighing at him.
"Because my soul is stronger than most, but only in magical attack. I've been getting contacted by Gaster lately and he said that, if I can get the memories of 7 different humans, then I could get strong enough to save him, too. But I can't save him unless I'm kept alive. Okay?" I asked, him sighing before then sparing me without a word.
"BOOHOOHOO... I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS... COULD BE PLAYED FOR SUCH A FOOL! I SHALL REMAIN FRIENDLESS... A DISGRACE TO THE ROYAL GUARD..." he said, me smiling as I then simply went closer to him and hugged him, Papyrus gasping at me doing so.
"Frisk and I would be willing to be your friend," I smiled.
"Y-YOU MEAN IT? REALLY AND TRULY?!" he asked.
"Yes," Frisk said.
"And I'd like to know you as well, Papyrus... I've heard some good things from passing visitors to my room," Doge said, Papyrus's eyes going even wider at that.
"FORMER ROYAL GUARD CAPTAIN DOGE WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND?! WOWIE! WE HAVEN'T EVEN HUNG OUT YET AND I'VE ALREADY MANAGED TO HIT THE FRIEND ZONE!" Papyrus said with happiness and a blush on his face as I simply smiled at him.
"Well, how about we hang out right now? I heard from Sans about the ingredients you use in spaghetti, but I want to show you how humans like me make it," I smirked.
"WOWZERS! THEN LET'S GET GOING!" Papyrus smirked as he ran in the air above us back to his house and us to go after him, Frisk then speaking after.
"Is this a detour?" she asked.
"No, it isn't. Keep in mind, Sans said that he owns the ballet shoes that belonged to one of the fallen humans. Then we'd only need to find the memories of two more," I smirked.
"Have you been able to use their strengths as well? Because I've noted your soul gained a purple color to it when you Papyrus attacked you," Doge asked.
"Not really, I haven't really thought of it," I smirked as we then went to the house and smirked at how Papyrus led us in and we saw that Sans was asleep on the couch.
"UGH! SLACKING OFF ON THE JOB AGAIN?! WAKE UP, SANS!" Papyrus shouted, me sighing as I then took him by the phalanges and led him to the kitchen.
"Yelling later, but now, it's time for cooking," I smirked as we then went to the kitchen, and I proceeded to get the items from the fridge that were in there... and soon found that they were either expired or things not able to be used in spaghetti.
"Okay, this is going to be tougher than I thought... welp, time to warp some items here from outside the barrier," I smirked.
"Wait, wait, wait, what?! You can teleport things from outside the barrier?! What about us?" Doge asked in shock.
"Recall the rules for that barrier. Anything can enter through it, but nothing can exit. Only those with a powerful soul. My soul is very powerful, even now, but even if I could, I'm not leaving this place until the barrier is destroyed," I smirked.
"Wow... a dutiful and noble warrior of the people. Sacrificing her freedom so that we can escape with her... amazing," Doge said as she then went down on one knee and I simply picked her up with mind magic and had her simply stand back up.
"Sorry, I don't want to be praised like that. It's uncomfortable," I said.
"WOW... SO COOL..." Papyrus gawked as I then proceeded to warp numerous different items to our table that we'd need to make a proper spaghetti dinner. I got some tomatoes, vinegar, and some chives so we could make the sauce as well as some grated parmasean cheese in a bowl, a whole box of noodles, and some vegetable oil. "WHAT ARE THESE INGREDIENTS, MALWARE?" he asked, me smirking at him.
"These are the ingredients we need to cook. First, we'll begin with the sauce. In order to make it, we need to get the tomatoes, the vinegar, and a dash of chives, then blend and mix them together to a paste before cooking it for a bit," I said as I then showed him how to do so, him getting a pen and paper and writing each step down with a smile on his jaw. And when I finished the sauce, I had Frisk try it and she smiled at it.
"Mm... like at a restaurant!" she smirked, Papyrus then doing the same and then gawking.
"OH MY GOD... THIS TASTES INCREDIBLE!" Papyrus smirked.
"But we ain't done yet, because now we get the noodles," I smirked as we then went to the pot and I poured the vegetable oil in it, then smeared it against the bottom and sides of the pot, then water, and then noodles.
"WHY WOULD YOU PUT OIL IN THE POT?" Papyrus asked.
"For two reasons. One, it adds a bit of flavor to the noodles. And two, so the noodles don't stick to the bottom of the pan. We don't want burnt noodles, after all," I smirked, him then gawking and then writing that down as I then explained the next part. "Now, to save on time, I'm going to explain how it normally works. Normally, noodles need to be placed at a boil for roughly 30 minutes straight. So, I'm just going to use fire magic to heat the water," I said, me boiling it with magic with ease and proceeding to speed the process up, but making sure the water stayed inside via some water magic to control the bubbling. And after a minute of the water being on a boil of 3000 degrees, I then got the noodles out of the pot and placed the pot outside so it could cool off, which it froze into ice instantly after I poured it out.
"Careful, it's not hot anymore," I smirked, that causing some snickering from inside.
"hehehe, that's actually a pretty smart joke. better than some of mine," Sans said as he finally stirred and I then proceeded to get the pan cooled off the rest of the way before then putting the noodles back into it, followed by the sauce, and then proceeded to mix them together with a noodle mixing spoon.
"We need to make sure that the noodles and the sauce are mixed together so that you can get sauce with every bit of the noodles," I smirked, Papyrus noting that down next as I then proceeded to pour some onto a bowl, then, after that, I smirked and got the cheese. "And for the finishing touch, some sprinklings of parmasean cheese for extra flavor," I smirked as I did so.
"WHAT ABOUT FETA CHEESE?" Papyrus asked in confusion.
"Humans don't use feta cheese for spaghetti, mainly because most people don't like goat milk," I explained.
"Um... what's a goat?" Doge asked.
"The animal whose milk makes feta cheese?" I asked.
"REALLY? BECAUSE WE ALWAYS GET OUR CHEESE FROM ASGORE!" Papyrus said, me then gawking before then asking Chara a question.
"How?" I asked them and them alone.
"Magic, that's my only guess. Sorry, I don't wish to go blind," she said to me as I then shook my head a bit.
"Ahem, anyways, that would make sense, since, from what I've heard from people on the way here, Asgore is a monster that looks like a goat... but I'm not going to say anything else on this matter because I don't want to know how a male goat monster makes milk," I said.
"No, not like that," Doge frowned at me as I then proceeded to simply finish putting the cheese on the spaghetti and then looked at Papyrus and got a fork for him.
"Go ahead, try it," I smirked, him then doing so and his eyes going wide after.
"MMM! MMMM! DELICIOUS! DELECTABLE! MAGICAL! THIS IS THE GREATEST DISH OF SPAGHETTI I'VE EVER TASTED! HOW HAVE I BEEN DOING IT SO WRONG ALL THIS TIME?!" he asked in shock as I then asked a more pressing question.
"How can you taste it without a tongue, though?" I asked, Frisk smacking me on the back of the head for that.
"Bad girl, no treat for you," Frisk said to me, me smirking at her saying that to me.
"REGARDLESS, YOU HAVE OPENED MY EYESOCKETS TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF THE CULINARY ARTS! I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!" he smirked.
"Skeletons have organs?" Frisk asked, me then doing the same thing to her.
"Bad girl, no treat for you." And everyone then started to have a good laugh at that. And after that, I then proceeded to ask Papyrus a question after we had our fill.
"Hey, Papyrus? How about we exchange phone numbers? Just in case we need to ask for your wisdom in the future?" I asked, him smirking and nodding at me. We then did so, and I saw his number was 010-110-2200, which made me surprised he had 2's in it when mine was all 1s and 0s, same with Frisk's.
"I SHALL SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO SPREAD THE GOOD WORD OF MY NEW BEST FRIENDS!" Papyrus smirked, me nodding as our group then were about to leave before Sans spoke.
"whoa there, pals. you forgot somethin'," he said as he then showed the ballet slippers... and I saw that he was wearing them underneath his fuzzy slippers!
"You had them on you this whole flippin' time?" I asked in annoyance.
"nah, i just put 'em on when i got home. i wanted to give 'em to ya, but i ended up fallin' asleep. and i didn't want to ruin the fun you were havin' with my bro... say, how about i take you to grillby's for a bit of a chat after you touch them slippers?" he asked, me rolling my eyes and simply nodding before then taking the shoes... and then I had to prepare for memory number 5.
