Chapter 9
When I entered the memories of the soul of integrity, I saw that, according to the memory, she was someone shocking. Bete Noir... Parton. Yeah, Noir was her middle name, Parton her last, but she still looked an awful lot like the character from Glitchtale! And she was also the only of the group to kill monsters so far, but only out of self-defense when she was going through the Royal Guard, which were chasing her through Waterfall.
"HOLD STILL AND FACE YOUR DESTINY!" shouted a monster that looked like Rudie Holiday if he were in full body armor, and he was alongside a bird monster that I could guess to be Berdley's mother as well as some of the Royal Guard in the form of a big dog, a deaf dog that had Doggo's shirt on, and two dogs that were a couple and wearing the same black hoods as Dogamy and Dogaressa, only they had brown fur instead of white.
"I DON'T WANT TO DIE! I DON'T! I WANT TO GO HOME TO MY MOMMY!" she shouted, me then seeing that another monster was ahead, and he looked to be a kid, but wearing armor and having his eyes closed.
"Captain Sans! About time!" shouted the big dog, which I guess would be Greatest Dog, him sounding very deep voiced. But the fact that Sans used to be the captain of the Royal Guard? And that he looked to be no older than 9 at the time?! I was impressed!
"A-A skeleton? S-Stay back... I just want to go home," she said with concern as Sans sighed.
"believe you me, kid, i want to see the surface, too. but it'd be impossible for any of us to do so. so please, just stand still," Sans said, but Bete did not do any of the sort.
"NO!" she shouted as she rushed at Sans, who teleported away from her with every swipe she made of her chosen weapon, it being a hand sickle. "I! WANT! TO! SEE! MY! MOMMY!" she shouted, getting steadily more frustrated with every swing, her then panting in defeat before then feeling Sans's finger on her back.
"sorry, kid... this hurts me way more than it hurts you," he said before then sending a sharp bone through her skull, right through her brain, causing her soul to emerge and for him to grab the soul shortly after.
"Thank you, captain Sans! We couldn't have done it without-" Rudie said before Sans then simply forced a trail of bones to emerge inches away from their feet! And then, the impossible! Sans frowned and started to have tears in his eyes!
"i said i didn't want this job... but nobody listened. and now, killing a fellow kid... my sins can never be forgiven for this..." Sans said before then simply taking his armor and ripping it off his body and demolishing it effortleslly. "I QUIT!" he SHOUTED! And then he teleported away to Asgore, simply gave him the soul and then, before Asgore could respond to him throwing his badge into the garden, he teleported away with a shout of grief and sadness!... As for Bete?
"M-Momma... I... I want to see her again... I just... I..." she said, obviously stricken with sadness and grief just as well. And Asgore didn't hear her as he placed her soul in the container. And then, the vision ended.
When I gasped this time, it was just as we entered Grillby's restaurant, which caused the whole group of patrons to look at me in surprise and shock, me then gulping and hammering my fingers together.
"Ehehe... um... hi there..." I said as I could feel the awkward in the air surrounding me.
"Um... hi, weird puppies?" Dogamy asked in confusion before sniffing me, me wondering what they'd respond with. "Now you smell like spaghetti... and human?... We let you go before?" he asked, me sighing at that.
"I may be a human, but I'm also the only ticket we've got to get out of this place because of my soul... so please, don't kill me? I want everyone to see the sun, too, and that includes the souls that are already captured," I said, him looking at his wife and her sighing.
"m-maybe we should give it a chance... she showed us we can pet each other, after all..." she said shyly, Dogamy smiling.
"Okay, you're good in our books... especially if you could befriend uh... grandma," Dogamy said, Doge growling at him after that.
"It's been awhile, Dogamy... and how are the puppies doing?" she asked, me seeing the tensions and growling rise as I then got between them.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up. No growling will happen. If you growl again in this place during my visit, you will not get any pets or treats," I said, them them stopping right after I said that.
"Fine... we'll be cordial," Doggo said with a frown as Sans then led us to the bar and we sat down, me simply sitting down, but reaching my hand underneath so I could swipe the whoopee cushion Sans snuck in that spot.
"heh, you really do know all the tricks of the trade," Sans smirked as I then simply put the whoopee cushion on the bar and kneeled my elbows against it, causing the fart sound after. "not the same, but a'ight. you want anything to eat?" he smirked.
"No, we just ate," Frisk frowned.
"How about some drinks instead?" I smiled.
"sure, they got some good stuff here," Sans smirked as I saw the menu of drinks and chose my option.
"I'd like some root beer, please," I smiled.
"Same,' Frisk smirked.
"Put down a martini for me," Doge said.
"eh, i'll take some ginger beer," Sans said, me looking at him in confusion.
"Is that a real drink? Or is it just ginger ale mixed with root beer?" I asked.
"The second option. It tastes terrible," the fish monster said, Grillby then pouring the items for us carefully so he woudln't get harmed. And then, I decided to speak to Sans.
"To be real with you, Sans... I expected you to be a lot of things when we first met... but a captain of the Royal Guard when you were just a tyke? I never expected you to ever take that job," I said, him sighing at that.
"had a feeling it was her last thoughts you'd see..." Sans said as he then simply picked his skull with a comb and then spoke. "look, i may not show it, but there's a good reason i try not to do anything or care for anything at all... it's because i have empath powers... kinda like raven from teen titans," he said, me being surprised he referenced that. "so that's why i hate when people are about to die or do die... i feel all of their pain and suffering... and since i live in snowdin, it affects me from all over the underground... i knew she killed, but i also knew she only did so because she had no choice... things were way different back then. monsters still hated humans with a passion... or, more than they do today, i guess. and i want to keep my powers on the down low, because too much will be problematic..." he said with a sigh.
"How problematic would it be?" I asked as I took a sip of root beer and he then took a swig of his ginger beer with some ketchup mixed with it.
"very much so... well, if it's contained in the underground... if i'm outside and in the open, without a barrier to worry me, i could use all my power without issue, as the universe could handle it... but here, i need to be careful. if i get too worked up, i risk destroying the whole mountain..." he sighed.
"I see... that's pretty hardcore... but hey, if all goes as planned, we can make sure we go to the surface and stay there," I smiled as I had my hand on his back and he smiled.
"That is, of course, if we can save Asriel... but how could we do that?" Chara asked just to me and Sans.
"i dunno, but i do need to ask you something else..." Sans said as time then stopped for everyone aside from our quartet! "you are aware of the ones that are hidden in the lab, right?" he asked, me nodding at that, though Doge and Frisk were confused.
"Yeah... the ones sent to Alphys, right? I know they need saved too... but here's the thing? How do I... undo what happened to them?" I asked, Doge gawking at me and whimpering.
"Undo? What happened to them?" Doge asked.
"Here's the short version... Alphys experimented with the souls before me and Frisk and siphoned a power from them called Determination. She injected it into dying monsters to try and find a way to preserve them... they suddenly woke up after numerous injections, but then... well... there's a reason Alphys is a complete shut-in," I said, Doge and Frisk looking concerned.
"What happened to them?" Frisk asked.
"Unlike you and me, Frisk, monsters don't have the physical matter to hold all of that determination inside of them. It overloaded their bodies and caused them to... melt together... they're currently mixed and mashed with other monsters. Some have only three monsters a piece, and one has at least 17 monsters combined into their person," I said, Doge gawking and her ears drooping when she heard that. "I want to save them, as well... to see if I can diffuse them and get them to be who they were prior. But I do not know how I could do that at all!" I said in annoyance.
"well, you are strong enough to do so, even now... but if you are going to do so, you'd need to do something with all that excess determination... after all, we don't want it to fall into the wrong hands," Sans said.
"Well, all the lava in Hotland is an option," I smiled.
"that'd just make the volcano erupt."
"Oh.. um... maybe infuse it into my soul?"
"too much determination can cause you to melt, too."
"O-Okay... how about sending that extract into bottles and holding all of them on my person? At least until we can get out of the Underground," I smirked.
"that's the only plausible solution... but the issue is, you'd need to hide that factoid from the talking flower. otherwise, he'd try to steal all of it and use it against you." he stated.
"It's definitely a long shot... but if anyone could do it, I'm sure you could!" Frisk smirked with flirty eyes to me, me smirking at her.
"Helpless flirt," I smiled as Sans then had time resume and Doge then simply lapped the rest of her martini and I then simply asked Grillby for a question, since me and Frisk weren't finished with our root beer. "Hey, Grillby? Can I ask for some to-go cups for the rest?" I asked, him nodding as he then got some cups and proceeded to not only put the rest of our drinks into them, but also refill them back to full. "Thanks for the refill. How much does it cost?" I asked with a smile.
"10 each..." Grillby said quietly, which made Doge surprised.
"You actually made Grillby speak? I'm impressed. He's never spoken for me at all," Doge admitted.
"Same here," everyone else in the house said, me smiling at that. I then proceeded to pay him 40 dollars, but he denied it.
"Cents," he said, me being surprised at how cheap he sold it for! I then paid him a dollar and smirked at him.
"Keep the change," I smiled.
"Thanks..."
"and thanks for treatin' me... welp, back to work. see ya later, ladies," he smirked as he then walked off and we then left shortly after, us seeing that, as expected, he teleported away after just three steps out of the bar.
"I want to know what happened in that flashback you had that you spoke with Sans about," Doge frowned.
"And 'ow come Ah saw it too," Chara said in her accent, me being surprised that she saw it as well, but me explaining it on the way through Snowdin and into Waterfall. By the time I'd finished, we reached Sans's sentry post and we saw Monster Kid there, looking super excited. And seeing them in person was adorable, since they had no arms.
"I see... I never expected Sans to be strong enough to be the captain after me... before quitting shortly after," Doge said with a frown.
"My question, however, is one that I'm not sure if you'd be comfortable answering," I said, her smirking at me. "How long have you been around?" She sighed at me, but still smiled.
"I've been here ever since we were sealed down here... and I was only a kid when the humans did that to us... the only other one that's been here since then is old man Gerson, who actually participated in the war and survived. The only monster, in fact, to have killed any of the humans in that war and manage to not get killed by them. I respect him a lot," Doge smirked.
"Yeah, yeah, but I doubt he's as great as Undyne! She's, like, so cool! I heard she's up ahead! Wanna come with? I want to see her beat up some bad guys!" Monster Kid said with excitement, me smirking at them.
"Only if you tell us your name," I smiled.
"Easy-peasy! My name's Norm," they said, me being surprised at that name. I didn't expect that to be their name.
"And uh... gender? It's kind of hard to tell," I admitted.
"Oh, I'm a boy," he said, me smirking at that. "Anyways, let's go!" he smirked as we then ran ahead, us going through a waterway before then finding the thick grass, us going into it before we heard some voices nearby.
"H-HI, UNDYNE! SORRY I'M LATE... I JUST HAD SOME... ERRANDS TO RUN, YES!" Papyrus said as we looked through the grass above us and Frisk shivered when she saw the fully armored Undyne. "SO... ABOUT THOSE HUMANS I CALLED YOU ABOUT..."
"Did you fight them?" Undyne asked.
"UM... Y-YES, I DID. I FOUGHT VALIANTLY!" Papyrus said with concern.
"Did you capture them?"
"I... No... I tried, Undyne, I really did... b-but... the one was very nice... and the other said they planned to save us all," Papyrus said, Undyne growling at that.
"If you want something done right, do it yourself... I'll get them myself," Undyne said, me then deciding to do something... what did I do? I proceeded to speak to Undyne in her head from afar.
"Just like how you got Flower?" I asked, her gasping as she looked all around her in confusion and I spoke again. "Because, when I saw her last memories, you looked super sad. She was so innocent and nice, too... why couldn't you just let her see her parents again?"
"Who's there?! SHOW YOURSELF!" Undyne shouted at me as she looked all over.
"I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING, UNDYNE..." Papyrus said, Undyne then frowning as I then spoke again.
"I do not intend to harm anyone. And if I really did want to, I could leave the barrier on my own, since I don't feel any constraints to the outside world. But I'm not leaving the Underground until I can save EVERYONE. The monsters, the children that were killed, everyone," I said, Undyne looking at the grass and growling.
"I know you're in there, punk! SHOW YOURSELF!" she shouted, me frowning as I looked at the others and shushed them, me then going out of the grass and holding my entire body in a barrier of my own, Undyne looking at me in shock.
"A-A-A... A human with magic?!... I can't believe it! I FINALLY HAVE A WORTHY CHALLENGER! YES! I FINALLY GET TO HAVE THE FIGHT I ALWAYS WANTED!" Undyne shouted loudly as I smirked at her.
"Wow, I broke you already. Fine, I'll fight you, but only if you agree to my requests," I said, her frowning at me.
"What requests are these, magic human?" she asked me.
"First request, my allies in Frisk, Norm, and Doge get a front row seat. Second request, only you and I will fight each other. Frisk is not to be touched. And third request, the winner will do whatever they want to the loser," I said, Undyne smirking at that.
"Peh, fine with me! When I win, you're going to join me at the capital so I can see if your point can be proven!" Undyne sneered at me.
"And if I win, you and I will be friends and you give Norm an autograph," I smirked.
"Wait, so, you're a human?" he asked, me smiling at that.
"Yes, I am. You get to see a human with magic go up against your idol," I smiled. "But as for the battleground, this won't do. I have a better idea," I smiled as I then attempted to teleport all of us to the area where Undyne would fight in the pacifist route, me then seeing that they only things that were bad with it were that all of our shirts changed bodies with Frisk getting Norm's shirt, me getting Frisk's, and Norm getting mine. And Doge and Undyne switched clothes completely.
"Dangit, still got to practice that," I frowned.
"Heh, this is going to be fun! TIME TO FIGHT! NGGGAAAAAHHHHH! ! !" Undyne shouted as we then proceeded to begin the fight, Undyne trying to use the green attack at me, but it disintegrated before it reached me, her gasping at that.
"You're gonna have to try a little harder than that!" I smirked back. It was time for a fight of magical human versus anime fish! And I had to make sure that my attacks were not with the intent to harm and that none of them would be able to kill her. Otherwise, we might lose best fish.
