The next morning, Toothless looked for one of Hiccup's sketchbooks where he kept information about past and current enemies, and he would often include the symbols as well. He finally found it, gently using his teeth and nose to get through the pages without damaging them.

Over his five years of living with the Berkians, he'd been blessed to learn to read runes, but right now, the symbols were more important.

After getting through the pages, he located the symbol of the trappers, the same symbol that Eret, son of Eret had branded on his chest. Finally! Now it was about getting Hiccup's attention. It was still early, so Hiccup and the others were still asleep, but this was important. First, he had to go see if that ship was still there.

The forest looked different in the early morning haze, but he was able to retract the path he took with Blueheart yesterday. Keeping low, he was able to locate the small beach, and sure enough, the hunter's ship was still there. Additionally, there was evidence that they set up camp, with the remains of a small fire having been extinguished, with the smell of cooked fish or red meat.

He didn't see the man and woman, but he knew they were most likely still on the ship.

With his evidence, he made his way back once more, now that dawn was onset, providing more light. He passed by what he was sure was Zyrah's house, and he could hear some activity inside and the chickens waking.

He made it back to where Hiccup and the other Berkian riders were staying, making his way up to Hiccup and nudging him away.

"...huh? Toothless…?" The young chief grumbled. Toothless nudged him again, this time the nudge subsequentially nudging Astrid awake.

"Whu…"

"It's Toothless."

"This early?" Ugh, humans. Toothless gently grabbed Hiccup's notebook, tossing it onto his abdomen.

"Toothless what are you doing?" Hiccup sat up, running his hand through his bedhead, trying to process what was going on. Then he noticed the weight of his notebook that now rested on his lap. Through a yawn and rub of the eye, he glanced down to look, "You grabbed my notebook…?"

"What'd he do?" Astrid mumbled, now also starting to wake up.

"He got my notebook. It's turned to… my page about the hunters…"

"Huh?"

Ana, who was sharing the room, woke to their early morning chatter.

"What's going on?"

"Toothless somehow got to my notebook and it's opened to my page about the hunters and their insignias."

"Really?" Hiccup nodded in affirmation, looking back to Toothless to figure out what he was up to. Well, at least he'd gotten their attention, aggravating for them, but it was important. In an attempt to get the message across, Toothless nudged the specific insignia and then turned to face out the window, in the vague direction of the forest.

The three riders all shared a confused look. So he tapped the symbol with his paw this time, and then directly pointed out the window.

And that somehow helped Hiccup put the pieces together.

"Toothless… bud. Are you telling me what I think you're trying to tell me?" Hiccup slid out of bed, holding his notebook.

"Hiccup?" Came Astrid.

"We need to get the rest of the group, and then get Zyrah, her brother, and their friend." He said, putting his boots and a leather overshirt on, "I think Toothless is trying to tell us that there're hunters in the woods." As soon as he mentioned hunters, the girls scrambled to get ready, making their way out of the house to get the others.

Zyrah wasn't particularly thrilled to be dragged out of bed by her brother, but when he explained what Hiccup just told him, she ended up tumbling out of bed anyway. After she quickly dressed and got Blueheart, they picked up Konall.

Then Blueheart led the way, surprising the riders; with Toothless right behind her.

"Did they figure this out together?" Ana asked from Dusk's back.

"They must've."

With Hiccup and Zyrah then in the lead atop their dragons, the two Night Furies led the way to the small beach they discovered, to which both Zyrah and Konall reacted.

"Oh wow, I haven't seen this beach in years."

"You're familiar with this place?"

"Yeah, sometimes after training Zyrah and I would come here to relax and goof around, y'know, just being kids. Kinda miss it." He said, with a slightly wistful smile on his face, a look Ana and Astrid noticed.

But obviously, everyone saw the ship docked on shore, with the anchor in the boulders, and the remains of a fire. And the Berkians expressed concern with the dragon hunter's seal on the sails.

"That can't be good," Fishlegs mumbled.

"I mean, how do we know what side they're on now?" Snotlout asked, to the slight surprise of his friends. Every so often he (and the twins) would ask or make an intelligent sentence.

For whatever reason, Zyrah made her way down the slight hill to the beach with Blueheart behind her, and Hiccup and Toothless followed.

"Why're you going forward?" Hiccup asked.

"I dunno, curiosity? We've never dealt with hunters or trappers." Suddenly there was the sound of clamor on deck, causing Hiccup and Zyrah to freeze in place.

"We're not here to harm you! We just wanna know who you are!" Rurik called from the edge of the woods. Zyrah quickly glanced at her brother but refocused her attention on the inhabitants of the ship.

In a blur, a man practically leaped off the ship and onto shore, ignoring the gangplank. Startled, Zyrah nearly tripped over her own feet but was supported by Blueheart, holding her up.

She was immediately taken by his deep blue eyes that stared with such an intensity that she subconsciously flinched. He had his sword pointed at her, causing her to hold her arms up. Her attention was then captured by another figure, this one coming down the gangplank. A woman this time.

It appeared they were the only crew on the ship, which made everyone feel a bit better. But Hiccup could see the hunter seal stamped onto a belt buckle around the man's waist. The woman bore no seal but it was evident what her former association was. Her left hand rested on the sheath of her sword, ready to pull it out at any moment.

"Who're you?" The man demanded.

"I'm a resident of this island," Zyrah answered, slightly raising an eyebrow, she pointed towards Rurik and Konall, "as are they. We just… heard someone was docked over here instead of at the village, so we came to check it out." The man narrowed his eyes suspiciously but lowered his sword anyway.

"Hm." The woman took a step forward but froze in place, and Zyrah noticed how her breath hitched. And her expression gave the impression she'd just seen a ghost. The woman grabbed the man by the shoulder, forcing him to turn around.

"What?" The woman pointed at Zyrah, creeping the teenager out, and whispered something unintelligible. Konall immediately joined Zyrah's side.

"Did she just point at you?"

"Uh, yeah… I think she did." Then the woman peered over the man's shoulder, pursing her lips for a moment, and decided to step closer.

"Please forgive us. But could you bring us to the village? It's deeply urgent." Hiccup turned to Ana, given she was a healer-in-training, and if they were injured or sick, she could assess them and bring them to the village healer.

"Of course, sick? Injured?"

"It's complicated. I can't explain it here." The woman replied, clutching her hands against her chest.

With that, the riders led the strange couple to the village. The man was silent the entire time, and the woman tried to make small talk but kept glancing over at the man in what seemed like fear. But the whole situation was odd.

And during the initial conversation, Toothless and Blueheart had explained to the other dragons how they came upon the couple and their ship.

As the dragons walked with their riders, they all agreed that the couple shared very similar scents to Zyrah, but somehow different.

In the midst of this, Zyrah couldn't shake the feeling of subconscious familiarity she had with the couple. Meanwhile, the woman refused to look at her, even just slightly. Every word she spoke, it was turned away from her.

Who were these people?
