Barney, Lee and the others, along with Dominik and his men surrounded the building. From the plan that Dr. Witsel had drawn, Kate was in a huge room that was only accessible through the rest of the building. There was no backdoor, no windows, nothing. The only entrance was a door at the end of a long corridor, but before they could get to it, they had to neutralize the men in the other parts of the building.
"Lee and I are going to head straight for Kate, we need you to cover us. You know the rules, no one dies today".
They all nodded.
"Let's go".
Kyle had put on his tactical gear and Kate let out a muffled yell as he punched her again. She didn't know how many times he'd punched her. All she knew was that he was saving her face and head for the final blow. This was foreplay for him. He could have killed her in one perfectly placed and strong punch, but it wouldn't have brought him any pleasure. It would have been an easy kill. Inevitably, he got tired of her body and seeing that she was getting so weakened by his sparing session, that she couldn't even let the slightest sound escape from her mouth, he punched her in the face. He was a master of this art, he knew where to his so that it hurt, burned, swelled, and bled. She felt the blood trickle down her eye as he split, the skin near her eyebrow, open. The blood spilled out of her mouth and as she tried to keep her eyes open, she saw it, the look in his eye. He was going to go for the final blow.
She closed her eyes, hoping it would hurt less that way and that it would be quick. "I love you Lee", she said to herself.
Fire shots and yelling were heard coming from the other side of the building.
Gunnar looked at Barney and Lee. "Go, go, go"!
As Barney and Lee went through the different adjoined rooms that led to Kate, killing Kyle's men along the way.
When they neared the room where Kate was being held, they found themselves surrounded. Miles and Derek had come their way, following Kyle's orders, and others had come from behind them. They were outnumbered.
Barney looked at Lee. "Go, I've got this"!
Lee dodged the bullets that Miles and Derek sent his way. When one of the bullets hit him in the shoulder, he didn't care. There was no stopping him. He ducked and shot a bullet in each of their legs. He recognized the two men from the video. They had been in direct contact with Kate and he loathed them. He walked up to the first one, disarmed him and grabbed his neck. He snapped it easily and Miles fell to the ground. Derek swung his fist at Lee. Lee grabbed it and twisted Derek's arm so far that it broke. He then grabbed Derek's gun and shot him in the head.
He headed towards the door, very cautiously. The light was dim, but it was lit enough for him to see Kate. His heart was filled with mixed emotions. He felt a warmth in his heart he hadn't fell for a long time, but also so much pain, anger and rage as he got closer to her. She was hanging by the shackles on her wrists. She was covered in blood and looked like a lifeless chiffon doll.
"No, no, no. Don't do this to me Kate. Come on baby, wake up", he said as he put his hands on her face.
She moaned slightly.
"That's it baby, just open your eyes. I need you to look at me."
She imagined she was dead, as she heard Lee's distant voice. Finally, her ordeal was over. She was finally reunited with Lee.
"Please baby, open your eyes", he said.
He felt better as he saw her eyes flicker a couple of times and then open slightly.
She looked at him. The words came out of her mouth so peacefully and quietly, maybe because she felt none of it was real.
"Lee"?
She could feel his warm hand on her cheek, it felt so real that it startled her. She then gave a quick scan of the room and realized she was where she had been all along. Her eyes scanned Lee, this was impossible. He was dead. She focused on his eyes again and the warmth of his hand on her face and she realized she wasn't hallucinating. She suddenly felt a feeling of overwhelm. "Is…", her chin started to tremble. "Is that really you"?
"I'm right here beautiful and I'm not going anywhere".
She imagined that her eyes started to cry, her eyes and face were so numb, she wasn't able to tell.
He put his arm around her. "Don't move".
He aimed his pump shotgun at the shackle pin and pulled the trigger. It sent the pin into pieces, freeing Kate's hand. He did the same with the second one and then he lifted her and cradled her in his arms.
"Let's get you out of here".
As he neared the door, Kyle stepped out of the darkness of a corner, shut the door and locked it from the inside.
"Well, isn't all this cute and heroic", said Kyle as he walked towards them with gun in hand.
"McGregor" said Lee.
"I see you know my name, but I don't know yours".
Lee shook his head. "Not important. You won't know me long enough to need to remember it".
Kyle pointed his gun at Lee. "You're right. Now tell me, who do I kill first? You or her"?
"You're a coward", said Lee. "Hiding behind that gun. You and I both know you prefer doing this in a manly way. Like they taught us in the military. I believe you get off on punching people, right"?
Kyle smirked. "I see you know a few things about me. And yes, I do get off on it, but I must admit, I got off even more touching her innocent and unravaged body".
Lee's jaw muscles twitched.
"Oops, looks like a touched a soft spot there".
"Let's leave her out of this. Come and show me what you've got"! said Lee.
Kyle threw the gun to the ground and kicked it towards a dark part of the room.
Lee bent down and gently placed Kate against the wall.
"Lee…" she whispered, with a look of complete fear in her eyes.
He looked her straight in the eyes. It was intense. It had been the look he had given her many times in the past before leaving for his deployment. The look that said, I've got this. There's nothing to worry about.
"Don't worry", he said to her, "this will only take a couple of minutes". He too sent his weapons flying across the room into another dark corner.
Barney and the others desperately tried to open the door.
"It's locked from the inside".
Caesar looked at Barney. "And that's not a good thing. I doubt Lee would have locked it on his own initiative".
"McGregor must be in there with them", said Toll Road.
"We've got to get inside", said Barney. He looked at Gunnar. "How much explosives do we need to open this thing"?
"I need a few minutes to analyze the structure, the material, where the potential latch might be".
"Fine but make it quick"!
Lee and Kyle walked towards the middle of the room. Kate tried to keep her eyes open as she watched them start to fight. They were both giving punches and taking some. Kyle had an advantage, he didn't have a bullet in his shoulder, but Lee tried to push that out of his mind. They lunged at each other. Kate winced at the sound their fists made on each other's skin. It was too familiar a sound.
Kyle lunged, sending his head into Lee's stomach and pushed him until they reached the hospital bed. Once Lee was doing on it in a perpendicular position, Kyle started to try and grab at his throat. Lee grabbed him with his hands and with the help of this legs, threw him over, sending Kyle crashing in to the medical equipment. Before Kyle could get back up, Lee picked up the metallic tray and slammed him in the head with it. Kyle stumbled slightly and grabbed the scissors and started plunging in Lee's direction and trying to stab him.
Inevitably, Kyle swayed the scissors and stabbed Lee in the thigh, as he did so, he twisted the scissors and then pulled them out. Lee collapsed to the ground.
"Gunnar, we need to get in there. Hurry up"!
"I'm hurrying up", said Gunnar as he placed the explosives. "I need a controlled blast Barney. I have no idea where Lee or Kate or, if the door goes flying in there, I don't want to kill either one. Besides, I'm sure Lee can hold his own for a couple more minutes".
Barney said nothing, but he hoped so. This had all been a demanding time, emotionally, psychologically and now physically for Lee, he hoped it wouldn't take a toll on him at the worst time.
Kate could see it on Lee's facial expression, he was in a lot of pain. She could see, his pant leg getting damp and darker, he was losing blood and fast. Kyle towered over him a smug look across his face of victory. That's when saw that Lee was also bleeding from his shoulder. He pushed his finger in Lee's wound, sending electric shocks through Lee's body. Lee crumbled to the floor and Kyle removed his finger from the wound, only to place his foot on it and step down on it even harder.
Kate was in a complete state of panic. She had never doubted Lee's strength or capabilities, but she was under the impression that Kyle was not going to take the chance of letting Lee get back up from off the floor and try to kill him. Kate looked around. She didn't know what to do. The door was too far for her to reach, and having tried to stand and having failed, she knew that she would never be able to reach the latch and open it. She kept looking and saw Lee's artillery, but again it was too far for her to reach. That's when she remembered that Kyle had tossed his gun in the darkness, not too far from where she was.
Knowing full well she couldn't stand, she tried to crawl, but it was just as painful and impossible. She dragged her body across the floor in the direction of where the gun could have been. Every time she moved, she clenched her teeth to prevent herself from screaming in pain. The last thing she wanted to do was draw attention to her. Lee's grunting increased giving her the incentive and the strength to keep moving. She had lost him once, she wasn't going to let it happen again. She reached the dark corner and felt around with her hand for the gun.
Kyle removed his foot from Lee's shoulder and placed it sideways on Lee's neck and started to push down, compressing Lee's airway and trachea. Lee tried to grab Kyle's foot and ankle, but he was at a big disadvantage laying on the floor with one bad arm and one bad leg.
Kate kept moving trying desperately to find the gun as the tears ran down her face.
Kyle looked at Lee. "I've got to hand it to you, you tried to save her, it was heroic. And as I take your last breath, I want you to know that I'm going to take my time and kill her very very slowly".
Kyle and Lee heard a gun shot echo in the room. Kyle removed his foot from Lee's throat and turned towards from where the sound came from. After catching his breath for a few seconds, Lee turned his head and saw Kate standing and leaning on the wall he had left her, Kyle's gun in hand.
Kyle looked at his leg that was starting to bleed, "lucky shot, put the gun down before you kill yourself, I told you that's my job".
Lee looked at Kate, she was in a bad posture. Her entire body was shaking, from the pain, from the strain she was putting on it to try and stay standing. Her eyes had a hard time focusing.
Kyle looked at Kate as he put his foot back down on Lee's throat.
Kate looked at him as she pulled the hammer of the gun down, arming it. Kate narrowed her eyes, trying to focus. She knew she'd only have one shot at killing Kyle before he killed Lee.
Lee felt Kyle's foot remove itself from his throat. Kyle first looked down at Lee than at Kate. The bullet that Kate had just shot had lodged itself in his neck and he was bleeding profusely. He staggered towards Kate.
"Go to hell you son of a bitch", she said as she shot another bullet at him.
The door flung open in a large boom. Barney, Caesar and Gunnar walked in just as Kyle fell to the ground.
Behind Kyle on the floor was Lee. He tried to sit up as he watched Kate drop the gun and fall to the ground lifeless.
"Kate"! he yelled.
They all turned and saw Kate on the floor in the opposite direction from Lee. A few inches away from her hand, the gun.
Barney looked at Caesar. "You and Gunnar get Lee, I'll get Kate. We have to get out of here fast".
Barney walked over to Kate and lifted her up from the ground. Just as Lee had done before, he cradled her. He walked out of the room, followed by Gunnar and Caesar who were helping Lee walk.
"Barney talk to me"? he said worriedly.
"She's breathing but it's getting raspy and she's very pale".
"We need to get her to a hospital and fast", said Gunnar.
"I agree but we can't do it here. It's too risky. We have to get out of Hungary now".
They walked out of the building. "Vienna is only 135 miles away. By plane we could be there in an hour. I'll have Friedrich meet us at the airport with an ambulance".
When they reached the SUV, Gunnar and Caesar helped Lee get in the back. When he was settled in, Barney placed Kate in Lee's arms. He closed the door and got behind the wheel.
As they sped towards the airport to the airport, Lee looked at Kate. He caressed her hair and kissed her on the forehead.
"Hang in there, baby, don't give up. I need you to keep fighting just a bit longer".
