Chapter 14: You Lost that Loving Feeling

It had been a week. A whole week and no word from Klaus. Caroline was fidgeting in her seat, trying to get comfortable in her acting class. Marcel had not said a word about Klaus' disappearance. He must be used to having students who appear and disappear out of his class. And he was fickle, too. Glaring at the stage with her arms crossed, she watched Rebekah strut about going on about how absurd everything was. Caroline wanted to jump up and scream, "You're absurd." Or at the very least bite Marcel for applauding every time the Philosophy major opened her mouth or moved a half an inch.

"That's not acting!" Caroline growled under her breath and then she noticed Marcel's head twist.

"And the prodigal actor returns to the fold. Klaus, my main man, where have you been? You are going to be writing one hell of long paper to make up for all those absences." Marcel called, his voice dripping with delight to see the other Mikaelson.

Caroline turned to see Klaus strutting down the stairs like he owned the place. "I'm going to kill you!" She shouted before jumping over people's feet to get to her wayward boyfriend.

"I'm sorry, love. Had bit of business that Father sent me to take care of. Won't happen again. By the way, you're one to talk considering I'm not the one to drop my knickers for one chap and then bed down with another in less that twenty-four hours. Now, am I?" Klaus asked, breathing alcohol fumes into her face.

"You're drunk," Caroline yelled.

"You are a whore!" Klaus screamed at her, his face turning red and then he leapt over the railing. He continued his way up to the stage. He walked up the stairs like he was sober and then laced his fingers behind his back.

Marcel and Rebekah were staring at Klaus in horror but he was grinning from ear to ear. "You all know my lovely, ex-girlfriend, Caroline Forbes. I thought I did until a little birdy whispered into my ear that my lovely girlfriend had gone to spend the weekend with her 'best friend,' a strapping young fellow. You see everyone said he was in love with her and I chose to not believe them. Not even when the little birdy told me it was true when I came to the chap's door and walked down the hall... And there they were in only towels. Would you like to know what they were doing? They were kissing. Yes, she was kissing her mate. Right after I had done my utmost to satisfy her right and proper five times in one night no less. Doing anything you can do to please a woman. Well apparently the pleasure was all mine. And now it is his. Please, give a hand to the lovely and talented young actress whose acting abilities fooled even me."

"Klaus, I think you might want to go home and sober up. I will not tolerate this kind of disrespect in my classroom." Marcel informed Klaus with his arms folded over his chest.

"Pardon me," Klaus replied, walking toward the stairs. "That was my final show. This is my curtain call. And," Klaus turned to Caroline, "Alas, fair well, my fair lady. I shall not see you again." Leaping off the stage, Klaus ran up the stairs, leaving Caroline trembling with disgust and shame.

Caroline knew he had the facts wrong. She knew what he saw and that he was wrong. But it hurt. If he had stabbed her it wouldn't have hurt this badly. "Caroline. Caroline! What was Nik raving on about?" Rebekah demanded.

"Class is dismissed!" Marcel yelled at everyone.

Standing numbly on the stairs, Caroline felt her fellow students staring at her as they walked by her. She couldn't speak. All she could do was stand there. Her life had become the stuff of nightmares. Her boyfriend thought she had cheated on him. She was a vampire. She had lost her best friend. Was there anything else? Just one more thing that could happen?

Sitting down on the staircase, Caroline stared into space wondering how life can go this wrong this quickly. "Hey, Caroline," Marcel called, coming to sit in front of her with Rebekah standing on the step below him. "You can talk to us. Class isn't in session."

Sighing, Caroline looked at Marcel. "I didn't cheat on him. Stefan is in love with me. And he kissed me." She stared up at Rebekah who had folded her arms and opened her mouth. "But that's as far as it went. I stopped it because I love Klaus. I never met anyone who was as crazy as he is. Who is as passionate. I never had anyone who has loved me as wholly and without barriers as he does."

"Then go tell him, honey, because if you don't, you might lose him." Marcel advised. "They say if you love someone let them go. But they didn't say don't tell him what the facts are first. If he still choses to walk away then he's a fool because you are obviously his."

Throwing her arms around her teacher's neck, Caroline squeezed tightly. "Thank you, Marcie."

"Oh, you are going pay for that," Marcel shouted after Caroline as she ran up the steps, two at a time. "So, Bekah, coffee?" Rebekah could be heard scoffing as Caroline ran out the doors of the building.

Caroline pulled out her phone intent on calling someone for a ride. Then she realized there was no one she trusted. Considering the idea of calling a taxi, she decided to go ahead and walk. A walk would clear her head. On the way she would think of how to kill Elena Gilbert and for no one to know where the body was.

The problem with killing Elena would be Damon. She supposed she could compel her to jump off a bridge or to sleep with a random guy. Something to make Queen E feel the way that Caroline felt right now. "Little bitch," Caroline muttered to herself as she walked toward Klaus and Kol's apartment building.

Stopping in front of the building, Caroline sucked in a deep breath before going up the stairs. Standing in front of the door, she knocked quietly and then realized the door was slightly ajar. Pushing it open slowly wondering why Klaus or Kol left it open, she walked in. Then she was assaulted by the sounds of someone moaning from Klaus' room.

Closing her eyes, feeling them prickle with fresh tears, Caroline forced herself to walk down the hall. Although she knew the voice was female, she knew she had to confront them in the act, unlike Klaus who had not allowed her to defend herself.

Twisting the knob to his door open, Caroline's jaw dropped when she looked down. "Oh! My God. I am so sorry. I thought you two were Klaus and some girl."

"Miss Forbes… it is not what it looks like… actually it is… but… ummm… I." Elijah stuttered and Caroline giggled

"I will be out in the living room," Caroline called. Standing in the living room, she heard shuffling from the bedroom before Hayley came out, looking perky.

"Hey, Care. Klaus came home saying something about going to a bar. And Kol decided to join him," Hayley informed Caroline who glared at her.

Placing her hands of her hips, Caroline began to yell. "Are you kidding me? Did you notice that he was already wasted? And now he's at a bar. Could you have tried to, I don't know, stop him?"

"Klaus is a grown man, Care. And he's your man. And I am not his mother. So, the way I see it, no, I don't need to tell him what to do," Hayley snapped, rolling her eyes.

"He thinks I cheated on him, Hayley. He came to class and made this absolutely insane speech and then left. I come over here. And you tell me he's at a bar. Now, what do you think drinking and being REALLY pissed off lead to?" Caroline continued to yell, feeling her temper rise. She was definitely going to bite someone if they did not help her find Klaus and get him home safe and sound.

"Elijah, do you know where Klaus likes to go to drink when he's in a bad mood?" Hayley called as Elijah came into the room.

"Yes. Why do you ask?" Elijah asked them, looking concerned.

"Caroline thinks that Klaus might have gone a little bit nuts and we need to go get him before he hurts himself or someone else," Hayley told him slowly.

"He likes to go Gloria's," Elijah told them.

"And where is that?" Caroline asked him, having lost all her patience five minutes ago.

"It's about two towns away," Elijah told her. "I can drive you."

"Good," Caroline said. "I hope you feel like speeding today, Elijah, because we need to find him. Now." She couldn't tell them why but she knew she had to find him now. Maybe it was the stupid speech. It was like he was saying good-bye. "Final curtain call. I shall never see you again," echoed through her head. 'Damn you, Klaus,' I will find you and I will torture you for this. You stupid, crazy idiot,' Caroline thought while running down the stairs of the apartment building.

'I'm going to force him to drink my blood and then I will kill him. That way we can argue about this forever. But we'll be together because I will see to it,' Caroline chanted to herself. She had to stop herself from smacking Elijah whenever he stopped for a stop light. 'Come on. Drive the damn car,' she shouted inwardly.

"There it is," Elijah announced and Caroline opened her car door before he came to a complete stop. "Caroline, please, be more careful!" He called after the baby vampire, who ignored him.

"I'll go after her," Hayley reassured him and then ran after Caroline. "Hey, wait up."

"I need to find him. Now!" Caroline snapped as she pulled the door open. They walked into the large room in which there was someone singing on a stage. There were people scattered in booths, on the dance floor and at the bar. In the center of a group of young women were Klaus and Kol.

Snarling slightly, Caroline started to head toward them when Hayley grabbed her by the elbow. "Let's get a drink and talk to them when they're leaving. It'll better than making a scene. Right?"

Rolling her eyes, Caroline walked over to the bar as Elijah walked in. Caroline ignored his upraised eyebrows as she spoke to the bartender who turned to pour out a tray of vodka shots. Taking one of the shots, she knocked it back before carrying the tray to the table Hayley had chosen so that they could spy on Klaus and Kol. Taking another shot, she knocked that one back, too, glaring at Klaus the whole time.

"You might want to not drink so many of those," Elijah informed Caroline. He turned to stare at him and then picked up another shot, knocking it back. Elijah shook his head and turned to Hayley. "We should talk about what happened before at some later time."

Hayley nodded. "Yeah. Sure," she picked up a shot and drank. "We should totally talk about it."

There was the sound of a commotion from the other side of the bar and Caroline's head whipped in the direction of the noise. Klaus was arguing with a man twice his size. Apparently Klaus had been flirting with the man's girlfriend and he was going to beat the living shit out of Klaus is how he put it. "You punk ass kids from that fucking sorry excuse for a school think you can just come in here and take our women. Well, after I fix your pretty face you won't think so. Will ya, kid?"

"I'm sorry, mate, couldn't understand you? Could you please enunciate properly?" Klaus asked the man with a wide grin. He was laughing at the man who would most likely take him outside and kill him.

"Let's take this outside, little man. I'm going to have so much fun making sure you never walk into this bar again on your two feet." The man yelled at Klaus who just smirked up at him before grabbing a shot.

"To my new friend here. May he get everything he wishes," pouring the drink down his throat, Klaus swaggered out of the bar as if he was going to his party, not his wake.

"Idiot," Caroline murmured as Kol followed a group of people who were going out to watch the fight. Getting up, she followed the group with Hayley and Elijah right behind her.

When they got outside, Klaus had rolled up his sleeves and was crouched into a boxer's pose. Actually it looked like a bad parody of a boxer. He obviously had no intention of taking the fight seriously. Smiling at his opponent, he held up his hands waving for the man to take the first shot.

The man did not have to be told twice as he punched Klaus in the jaw, knocking Klaus to the ground. Klaus began to laugh as he got to his feet. "Is that all you've got, mate?" He shouted, beginning to jump up and down. "My Mum hits harder," he taunted the man who hit him again this time aiming for the Klaus' gut, stunning Klaus. Klaus bent over and held his stomach for a moment before he looked up at the man. "Is that the best you've got?"

The man reared back and punched Klaus in the mouth. He then punched Klaus in the eye. For good measure, he grabbed Klaus' by the hair and drove his knee into his face, causing the sound on shattering bone. He did not let up, he then hit him in the ribs and then in the gut, again. There was the sound of wheezing and more bones shattering as Klaus fell to the ground.

"Nik," Kol screamed and several people had to hold him back from entering the fight.

Elijah began to move forward when the man moved to hover over Klaus. "Are you done, kid?" The man asked Klaus, who shook his head.

Spitting a stream of blood, Klaus tried to push himself to his feet and succeeded after the third attempt. " As my sister-in-law likes to say 'I like to go the whole ten rounds,' Klaus told the man, his face leaking blood from various wounds, his left eye was swelling shut and his teeth were stained with his own blood. Klaus hadn't even tried to fight back or defend himself.

Caroline began to curse knowing what Klaus was doing. Elijah was moving through the crowd when Hayley caught up with him. She was talking to him quickly and they began to argue.

Caroline marched forward, throwing her shoulders back. Shaking off her jacket, because she liked it and didn't want mess it up, she tossed it to Kol. "Hey, man. Are you looking for a real fight?" Caroline called with a wide grin.

The man turned to look at her and he began to laugh. "Oh, honey. I would not fight you. You're far too pretty to mess up like this yuppy trash here. The things I would do to you are of a very different manner." The man licked his lips.

Caroline sighed. "Yeah, I've heard that before."

"So, are you the sister-in-law?" The man asked, looking down at Caroline. "Because you won't be going home to you hubby tonight, baby."

Shaking her head, Caroline began to laugh. "No, baby. I'm the girlfriend. And you about to have your ass handed to you."

"Caroline?" Klaus called, trying to get her attention. "What the bloody hell are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I do not want to see you. Ever. Again."

"Too bad," Caroline yelled back at him. "At least I'm not trying to get killed by Java the Hut."

"Hey, that was rude, little lady. I guess I'm going to have to teach you some manners." Java told Caroline who just smiled up at him as he approached. Was it wrong that she was going to enjoy kicking this guy's ass? Not when she looked at her boyfriend, who was swaying about and looked like he was about to pass out.

Elijah, Hayley and Kol had gone over to surround Klaus. Elijah and Kol were holding their brother up, who was watching the scene unfold. "Caroline, stop this. Now!" Klaus ordered weakly. "Get away from Java before he gobbles you up," he then began to laugh, grinning crazily.

"I'm going to kick your ass after I get done with Java," Caroline promised as Java grabbed her around the waist, pressing her body to his. Stepping down on his foot, hard, Caroline heard a satisfying crunching as his bones shattered. "That's for messing up my boyfriend's pretty face," she snarled. Rearing back and head butting him, she heard another satisfying crunch. Punching him in the gut, she sent him teetering backward.

However, Caroline couldn't seem to stop as she kept coming toward the man. Kicking him hard, she sent him flying into a trunk. The crowd seemed to be growing weary of this young woman and began to disperse but Caroline wanted blood.

Going after the man, she grabbed him by the shirt collar and lifted him so they were eye to eye. "You're never going to hurt someone like that again," she whispered, her fangs protruding and the man screamed before she tossed him across the parking lot like he was as light as a pillow as his skull made a loud crunching sound on the pavement.

Feeling the high wear off, Caroline turned to her friends. She was slightly sick from the fact that she had just made her first kill and it wasn't an accident. She had wanted to kill that man. And now he was dead. Just as she opened her mouth to say something to the group, who were staring at her with mixed reactions, Caroline felt her body begin to break apart. It was the worst pain she had ever experienced in her life. "Ahhhhhhh," Caroline screamed as Hayley's eyes widened in recognition and the three human males looked frightened.

"Caroline," Hayley was in front of her in an instant. "Care, you're going to be okay. Just calm down. Look at Klaus. He needs help. Kay? So, you need to calm down to help him," Caroline looked at Klaus, who looked pale and could barely stand. Sucking in deep breathes, Caroline sped over to him.

"Hey," Caroline whispered. "Everything is going to be okay. I'm going to take care of you and you will fine." Klaus nodded, slightly but looked unsure. Biting into to her wrist, Caroline held it out to him.

"What are you doing?" Elijah demanded as Kol just stood there, staring.

"I'm going to heal him. Klaus, you have to drink. Now," Caroline ordered him staring at him. "You have to trust me. I didn't have sex with Stefan. I'm a vampire and so is he. I'll explain later. But now you have to drink my blood."

Klaus allowed Caroline to place her wrist in his mouth and sucked her blood down greedily and at some point he grabbed onto her wrist. "Okay. That's enough. We don't want any more accidental vampires on our hands." Caroline murmured, stroking his head gently. "Everything will be alright. I promise."

So, let me know what you think of the chapter. I know that readers were probably spilt between whether to side with Caroline or Klaus with that chapter and that Stefan did not win too many fans.
